Driving at about 60 mph when i went over bridge separators and the whole front end started to wobble and shake until i slowed to approx. 40 mph thought the front wheels were going to come off.
Driving along highway speeds, 70-75mph and hit slightly uneven terrain (the lip from a bridge onto the highway) the vehicle began shaking uncontrollably. this continued for a while until i eventually was forced to slow down by pulling towards the shoulder. i have researched this problem and i can see numerous people calling it by the term "jeep death wobble". the issue is roughly the exact same as everyone else. my vehicle has been checked by the dealer and they state they serviced it by replacing the steering damper however the issue has still continued after that. it is random however extremely scary when traveling at highway speeds and having the vehicle uncontrollably shake until you have to slow down, which is not easy to do on a busy highway.
Have had the jeep for only 3 weeks now and on the second week the "engine light" turned on, took it to the dealership and was told it was due to not closing tight the gas cap tight when i put gas but the thing is that "i" had not even fueled it because i did not have the jeep long enough to need to fuel it up. the "sespension", steering is very wobbly to and from any where i drive it in town or city and more so when i drive it on the freeway, it is a task and sruggle; arms and hands are sore after i get home for me to try to keep it steady , if i do not stay focus and hold tight onto the steering wheel when driving it , the jeep will go on either to the left or right. i have to be very extra focused and careful when changing lanes as the manouver when doing so or streering to drive/changing lanes is not pleasant nor steady but wobbly and if i do not hold on tight to the steering wheel, the jeep will go off the road. the "breaks", when i break, the jeep is late in stoping, i have to calculate to break way ahead in order not to hit the vehicle in front of me also when starting back up from my foot on the break, it does not take off as soon as i let off the break as i expext it to but jerks instead taking time to drive on and move. also when turning to the right or left, the suspension feels like the street or road is really bumpy when its not. regret buying a jeep.
The car shakes uncontrollably when driving on the highway and after hitting a bump or imperfection in the road. i have had the problem fixed once before a few months ago. last wee when driving back from dropping my son off at college the car shook uncontrollably at least a dozen times. the car seemed to shake at higher speeds and i would have to pull the car off the road to almost a complete stop to make the shaking stop.i also had the car repaired for the same issues at scap jeep in fairfield ct a few months ago. they said it was the steering damper. the car was fine for a few months but the problem came back again. the incident happened on 8/25. we fear taking the car on the highway.
I do not know the exact cause, but the vehicle has extremely loose steering and wanders all over the lane while driving at all speeds. very difficult to control vehicle which makes it extremely unsafe to drive at higher speeds. combine the two with a bump in the road, and the vehicle jumps to the side. loose steering is easily noticed while the vehicle is turned off and parked.
While stepping on the brakes, the service shifter light comes on, power steering goes out, then the dashboard goes crazy with all sorts of warnings blinking and dinging: sway bar, stability control, blind spot alert, auto park, etc. temp goes up and down, speedometer goes crazy. when the vehicle is shut off and re-started, it usually starts as normal. most occurrences have been when slowing down (in line at a drive thru, approaching a stoplight). the jeep has been in the shop 4 times. this service shifter late first came on june 23 and it occurred four times that day.first they repaired the power steering. the problem happened again and they replaced the module in the steering column. the problem happened again and the dealership could not duplicate the problem. it happened again and the vehicle had to be towed to the dealership where it is still sitting
Driving down road yesterday with no rain, completely dry and 89 degrees, all the sudden my jeep makes a dinging noise and the service electronic stability control light comes on. i called dealership they said if it came back on or didn't go off to schedule an apt. i ask if safe to drive, response was i guess not sure, should not hurt anything. this same dealership had to enter a code into my computer last week because my jeep was automatic, but when you got in it, it says depress clutch and turn key, for straight drive. also the center console lights some time would work and sometime not, after the update that stopped. not sure what to do about the esc light, it did go off.
!!! car currently @ dealership for 5th time for same issue !!! when driving @ hwy speeds and hit a bump divot or pothole the entire jeep violently vibrates shakes and sways from front to back. after the latest "fix" now it still vibrates shakes sways and now bounces the vehicle into another lane my family & i nearly hit another vehicle on the hwy on saturday 3/23/19. we have had the vehicle into dealership 4 times since january 2019 for them to fix this issue and fca/dealership have no idea how to remedy this issue. after this last incident on 3/23/19 i don't want my family or myself in this jeep. i was very scary on 3/23/19 being bounced into another lane with other cars right behind and along side of me. it was a white knuckle driving experience i don't want to happen again. its dangerous unsafe alarming & threatening to all drivers!
I was driving at 45 miles per hour when my service shifter light went off. within 1 minute i lost my power steering, and brakes. my car locked into gear and i lost all ability to accelerate. at that point the car started dinging and prompting every code in the car. sway bar engagement, rear electronics, fuel low, tire pressure, change oil.....i can't remember every one. when i got my car to stop i could not get the car to turn off and all of the fans were blowing on high along with the motor reeving. i finally got it to turn off and called for a tow. the repair shop told me the car had thrown over 100 codes but none were active. they kept my jeep for 10 days and told me they took it apart and checked everything. i was told because no issues were current they could not find a problem though.i picked it up and not 8 miles down the road the same exact thing happened. this time however i was in heavy traffic where i was almost hit and because i had no brakes or power steering i almost hit a person walking. thank god i was able to avoid all of that and get pulled over to safety. it is currently in the shop again.
Car was brought in 3 times for death wobble. first could not replicate, then part was replaced with a part removed from another vehicle as the required part was on nationwide back-order. that part was defective, car went back in the shop and waited for new part to come in. on 3/6/19 the death wobble reoccurred with my vehicle. it does not stop until you reduce your speed - difficult to do in heavy traffic. currently have not received response from dealer to bring car back in. they had fca engineer look at it the last time it was in and will not send me copy of the documentation.
Vehicle steering wheel completely locks up while driving on highway nearly causing an accident as you are unable to correct wheel for up to 10 seconds. while tsb 08-092-18 was issued 7 months ago this presents a significant possibility for accident and injury and should be recalled for anyone affected.
Power steering stopped working when driving on highway. only can steering 10 degrees either right or left. thank god, i was able to pull over. i restarted and steering cane back.
I purchased a 2018 jeep wrangler (jl 4 door sahara) in august 2018. at speeds exceeding 55 mph the jeep shakes uncontrollably making handling/steering close to impossible. i have to slow down to about 25 mph to gain control of the vehicle. this happens when i hit even a slight bump in the road. my jeep has already been to dealership for a similar issue (recall on track bar frame bracket) and nothing was found. i have a $48,000 vehicle that i can't take on the highway. currently less than 5000 miles on the wrangler. very dangerous!
Purchased the brand new 2018 jeep wrangler sahara with 40 miles on november 30, 2018. currently, this vehicle has 1,975 miles. in late december 2018 hit a bump on a highway driving the posted speed of 70mph and the vehicle vibrated a bit and had to slow down to handle the vehicle. each week after driving the vehicle on daily commute in city conditions at the posted speed of 25-30mph, after hitting a bump in the pavement the vehicle does not handle well, as if i would lose control. on january 27, 2019 driving on a ramp at the speed of 45mph upon entering the interstate the vehicle hit a bump in the pavement, the vehicle begins an uncontrollable vibration and was shaking the steering wheel, i had to pull over. after researching this issue online with the same issue, i feel unsafe driving my only vehicle. for a vehicle valued over $45,000, i need this issue to be investigated before someone is seriously injured. i do not feel safe driving on the interstate at the posted speed. the vehicle feels unstable while driving over any bump in the pavement at 20mph the vehicle wobbles and sways.
A small bump causes the steering wheel and front end of the car to violently shake. it happens at varying speeds, taking your foot off the accelerator or trying to break does not get it to stop, you ride it out.the wheels are shaking along with the steering wheel. in addition, the clock doesn't keep time and radio intermittently drops stations, scans through all of the stations or picks up static. i have a video of not being able to control the radio(on or off), unable to change the volume or shut the radio off. i was not able to use touch screen or the controls on the steering wheel in order to operate the radio. it has been brought in for service on for the shaking 3 times now, going on 4. jeep says it's fixed the problem by replacing the steering stabilizer/dampener. jeep knows it is happening and mentioned getting "jeep engineering" involved and have blacked out information on paperwork we received after repairs, concerned we would see the "contact/ email address". the first service visit they could not get the shaking to happen and "reset the steering to factory settings", "that it was a little off." the second service appointment the service department "couldn't get it to happen". they had the salesperson i purchased the vehicle from take the car for a ride and compare it to how his jl drove. they asked if a worker "could take the car home and drive it a few days". i agreed.it happened to the worker and they replaced the steering stabilizer/dampener the first time(on that second visit). the third service appointment, they said the "steering stabilizer/dampener was replaced with a faulty stabilizer""that there were still faulty new ones, they were going to replace it. the following day, its violently shaking. it happens in motion, haven't noticed it with turning. i have videos of the shaking happening to the steering and the issues with the radio.
Bought my jeep 2018 wrangler brand new, had issued with the steering become very hard to turn was barely turning on a corner street. literally impossible to make a right turn, all of a sudden it just became easy to turn as if nothing was wrong. also a service shifter light and the stability controll light comes on every now and then, now the issue is the screen is displaying an anti theft screen asking for a theft code and jeep will not turn on.
Trying to avoid a large dirt clump left in the road by the road maintenence crew i swerved to the left at 35 miles an hour and the esm/esc light came on and the jeep took over the car i could not apply the brakes or control the steering the speed did not deminish and the vehicle crossed an intersection rolling up an embankment so that the front of the jeep went in the air and came down hard causing the frame to break and the front axle to bend. if i could have at least been able to control the steering i could have turned in the direction i had intended to go this could have been avoided. jeep is now trying to fix the control system after the damage was repaired. the light remained on even after the jeep stopped. i see others have had trouble with this system. i had a 2012 rubicon that had trouble with this system and took it to the dealer numerous times and they could not find the problem so i traded off for another vehicle. this also cause me a broken back. the seat belt was deployed and the air bags did not deploy.i was on a county road and was going to turn left onto another county road but could not turn the wheel.these roads are dirt and were just graded leaving loose dirt and ice which were not there when i had traveled this road about 2 hours earlier. i was in two wheel drive and have fount blogs where others have had this problem and that you should turn the system off on dirt roads.
Violent shaking in the front end when hitting any bump in excess speeds of 50+mph
While driving on the interstate highway at approximately 70 mph when going over pot holes or bumps like ones at bridge crossings the steering loses control and vibrates and shakes. the driver has no control of the steering you must slow down to approximately 45 mph to regain control of the vehicle. one incident on the highway happened when we were switching lanes on the interstate at approximately 70 mph the road condition was smooth and as we merged into the left lane the steering vibrated and shook and temporally did not have control of the vehicle in till we slowed down to approximately 45 mph. the dealership that i purchased the vehicle from has after several attempts to repair the vehicle claimed they fixed it. this is not the case it is still a problem
I bought this wrangler jl model new this past summer. since that time i have experienced 3 separate occasions where the front end shakes uncontrollably with the steering wheel shaking back and forth. this occurred once on a multiple lane road traveling approximately 45mph and once on a highway traveling approximately 70mph. i have been told by the jeep dealer this is termed a "death wobble."
My steering wheel shakes/vibrates rapidly multiple times daily at speeds verying from 20mph through 80mph. it happens when i hit a bump or some kind of iregular form in the road and it last from 5 seconds all the way to 35 seconds.
Extreme shaking in the front end when hitting any bump in excess speeds of 50+mph
Vehicle shakes uncontrollably when hitting a bump at speeds of approximately 50mph or higher. it feels as if you've popped a tire. shaking will not stop until you slow down significantly. this issue is often called the 'death wobble.' no modifications to the vehicle, less than 7 months old at the time of the first incident. consistently happens at least once every other week.
When driving in cold weather or just after the jeep has been sitting in lark for a few hours it will allow me to steer at low speeds but after 45-60 mph it will lock on me a few times until the engine is fully warm
Radio screen shows "display hot" very often. entire dashboard is extremely hot to the touch. if you touch the vents, the heated vent will burn your finger. there is a burning rubber smell.
Intermittent loss of power steering and/or seizing. upon driving to exit highway and get to dealership engine indicator light came on and eventually jeep stopped dead while driving. could not be put in neutral to move off of road and would not restart at all.*dt consumer stated auto windows would not work although the child locks were disengaged. received recalled oct. 5th 2018 just after consumer purchased the vehicle with milage of less than 1200. updated 1/30/18*jb
On three separate occasions i have experienced what is known as the "death wobble" where the jeep feels like it is off balance and shifting from side to side; almost like you are sliding on ice. this happens at a rate of speed of 45 mph or less. my jeep has 5,400 miles on it and has never been modified.
On 10-10-18 (15000miles) i started to experience a death wobble that was getting worse very quickly. i took it to my dealership and they had it for 31 days. they said it was a problem in one of my tires. i drove it 200 more miles and it started again. i called them back and they told me that crystler said there was no fix for it and it was still safe. as it continued to get worse, i called crystler, and they had their tech reach out to my dealership (took 3 weeks). they said they needed to install an after market stabalizer bar, which they did - and as i drove away and on to the interstate the jeep went violently out of control and i was almost hit by 4-5 other vehicles on the interstate. i was almost killled. i drove right back to the dealership and explained as i was shaking with tears from fear. this has been almost 2 months and they are refusing to give me a loaner. my responses and lack of urgency on this is beyond legal. i am not safe in a $50k brand new vehicle. please someone do something about this very soon, it isn't just jeep owners, it is whomever might be driving around them on interstates and highways.
While in motion at up to 50 mph, on city streets, esc warning light and contact dealer message lit up on dashboard. steering requires numerous corrections to stay on path in lane.
Soon after purchasing my 2018 jl wrangler in april i began experiencing steering issues. when veering left or right to change lanes, take a curve, etc. the steering wheel would 'lock' up and i'd need both hands to pull it back to keep the jeep in my lane. it only lasts for a few seconds. i had received notification that it was time for my first maintenance appointment after purchasing the jeep, so i called to schedule that and also told them about the steering issue. one day prior to the appointment, my dashboard alert notified me to "service the electronic stability control". since i already had the appointment, i knew this could be addressed at that time. then a few days later i received the safety recall u48 for steering intermediate shaft. i called the dealership and let them know that i had received the recall notice and that i already had an appointment scheduled. i took the jeep in for the appointment and the problem appeared to be fixed at first. then it happened again about a month later and then again just this past week. it's a scary situation. this last occurrence i was taking a curve in the road with traffic coming the other direction. the steering wheel 'locked up' and i had to forcefully use both hands to pull it back into the lane.
My jeep has been drifting and steering has been awful on highway, esc and service lights came on. all welds under the vehicle are absolutely horrible, and i absolutely do not feel safe risking my life and my child's life in this vehicle with welds and components that look as if they will break or fail at any moment
My electronic stability control service light continues to come on, even after several repairs and software updates.
Bought jeep jl 2018 brand new, i have noticed on at least three occasions that when driving on regular roads, streets, at speeds of 25-45 mph and coming to a complete stop, at a light, or stop sign, or stopping for a car in front of you, after taking your foot off the gas, applying the brake, just before you come to a complete stop the jl lunges forward, while you are still on the brake. could this be something wrong with the ecm?
About a week and half ago i got in my vehicle and turned the vehicle on (still in park) when i received two warning/service alerts. first was, "service electronic stability control", and second, "stop/start unavailable service stop/start system". fyi, the vehicle has only been in my possession for a few months, something like this shouldn't happen. i have attached the images of the warnings.
Steering wheel got locked in place going at high speeds on freeway. has happened about 3 times now. first time this happened vehicle was going about 65 mph on a curve. also, has excessive swerving when vehicle is on highway.
While driving the posted speed limits, on any street, i am constantly fighting with the steering wheel jerks out of my hands, even though i had several professionals look at my tires, wheels, suspension components, tie rods, stabilizer bar, steering dampener, ball joints, etc. my jeep has this massive death wabble, where i constantly have to fight the steering wheel! on 15+ different times (it does not matter if i am driving on a hwy 70mph, secondary st's 40mph, 5-lane st's at 50mph, or while driving in a subdivision at 25mph), just trying to turn my jeep becomes a huge challenge, even on a good day! i believe that my electric power steering is also defective too, the steering wheel violently jerks me into oncoming traffic, & into others lanes without any warnings! i finally contacted 'synergy manufacturing' who told me that all of the steering components on the jl's are nothing but cheap garbage, that all needs to be replaced! they have a replacement kit, which fixes the problems, for less than $1,200! which sounds like a bargain, if it means that my family remains safe, compared to being killed in yet another fca death trap! also, one's fire retardant blanket (under the hood), is falling apart! i only have 1,800 original miles on it, its never even been off road yet! i've gone to 7 different jeep dealers, & nobody has any new replacement parts, & all of their customers need to get in line before they shall even look at my jeep! i would expect a flawless running & driving jeep jl wrangler unlimited rubicon, after spending well over $60,000!!! can you please help me? all one has to do, is search any of the jeep jl forums, search youtube, e.g., & one shall see thousands of exactly the same complaints! never again fca, you lost me as a customer, its a miracle that my family & i aren't dead!!!
Steering wanders right and left and is very loose and lacks control to bring it back while in motion. particularly bad when turning
Jeep wonders from left to right above 40 miles, excessive play in steering while driving in city speeds and highway ,bought it brand new started from day one have brought it to dealers 4 times , have called chrysler fca customer care only to b told there is no problem with jeep and it is doing what it is design to do ,?ealer will not look at problem anymore and tells me to call fca !!!dealer open a case on the jeep fca came back and said vehicle is doing what it is design to to it is within specs, .no copys were given to me !!!!ase was closed
