HORN 2 STARTER ASSEMBLY 1

Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Tipm problems from the research i've done. car goes haywire! horn goes on randomly and stays on even when driving! wipers go on and off randomly even when i try to use the wiper switch to control it, nothing happens. wiper fluid goes on and off randomly even when not controlled by switch. doors lock and unlock randomly while driving even when not using the remote. alarm goes off while driving with the horn. all dashboard lights randomly flash on and off while driving. all these weird events usually occur at the same time or randomly by themselves. mostly happens when driving or when trying to initially unlock and enter the vehicle for use.

I am experiencing a recurring issue that appears to be the totally integrated power module (tipm). every couple of months, the entire electrical system goes haywire, for about 3 minutes and then is fine. in researching this, i am finding that it was a common problem on jeep vehicles of that time period. it most recently occurred today, although it has happened for about the last 2 years, since shortly after i bought the vehicle.

While in motion driving down the highway and on a city street car suddenly dies, no power steering, lights flashing, horn blaring, windshield wipers and fluid are activated and doors lock and unlock. mechanic informs me it is tipm issue with 2007-2011 jeeps/chryslers/dodges. i investigated online and jeep forums etc. support this and yet jeep refuses to accept accountability- as someone who has nearly wrecked on multiple occasions, i implore you address this or someone is going to die, because jeep continues to ignore this problem!!! this also happens in the middle of the night when the car is parked stationary and isn't even on- i have woken in a panic several times by what i think is my car alarm going off, to find the horn blaring, blower motor, flashers, interior lights, and the wipers going on and off. also, while driving at night, the lights suddenly go out. once again i urge you to investigate this dangerous problem, because this will cause a serious accident, or worse if these issues are not resolved! *these incidents have happened on multiple occasions, but the most recent was today, so that is the date used to answer "when did this happen"

Totally integrated power module (tipm) mass failure causing all electrical systems to go haywire and car to be undrivable. this apparently is an increasingly bad problem on jeep wranglers.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. the contact received recall notices for nhtsa campaign numbers: 16v352000 (air bags)and 16v290000 (air bags). the vehicle was taken to south point dodge chrysler jeep ram (located at 5210 s ih 35 frontage rd, austin, tx 78745) and repaired. after the contact left the dealer and was driving home at 65 mph, a burning odor was detected coming from the front passenger side of the vehicle. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not taken back to the dealer. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 83,030.

Will not pass inspection check engine lights remain on along with a red light that looks like lighting bolt. replaced battery. new engine. new radiator. new pin. everything that was found on diagnostic check replaced. still paying for car. not able to drive it. has a dangerous death wobble. this is the worst vehicle made. don't know what to do. cannot get plates for jeep that eill never pass inspection. what can i do .

My ac/heater blower motor work intermittently. the horn sounds without being engaged. the windshield wipers will engage by themselves. these issues happen both stationary and while driving. i belive these issues are caused by the total integrated power module. when talking with others about this problem there appears to be a recurring problem with these vehicles. i believe these malfunctions could put me in danger. for example, if i can't defrost the windshield there is a visability problem. also, assuming it is the tipm there are many other things that will eventually happen.

We were driving in the nm mountains at night. the headlights and tail lights went out. the wipers started running. i pulled off the road. we were lucky we didn't have a wreck. eventually we shut off the engine and restarted it. the lights came back on.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle intermittently stopped working and all the instrument panel indicators illuminated unexpectedly. also, the electrical system shut down and the vehicle started to slow down. the contact stopped, turned off, and restarted the vehicle. the vehicle was not towed. the vehicle was taken to turnersville jeep chrysler dodge ram (3100 nj-42, sicklerville, nj 08081 (856) 316-7958) where it was diagnosed that a fuse was blown. the vehicle was repaired. the contact requested a test drive and the failure recurred. the contact left the vehicle at the dealer. the manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact to call the dealer for a remedy. the failure mileage was 37,000.

While driving headlights, windshield wipers/washer, signals, esp disable button and interior lights stopped functioning. this is the second tipm in this vehicle. the first was replaced after power windows stopped functioning.

The jeep just died in the middle of traffic while i was driving in escondido ca. this was very dangerous as it happened in rush hour traffic. the horn, wipers, wiper fluids all came on all of a sudden. i was stuck in the middle of traffic and was not able to turn it off. then it randomly turned off so i took it to the dealership. they said my tipm was bad. there are recalls of the jeep tipm but not for my model year. wtf

My vehicle begins to act as if it is possessed. when driving all dash lights will flash, windshield wipers will turn on, washer fluid will shoot out. also while driving everything will lock up making it impossible to control the vehicle. when parked, the vehicle will struggle to start and all of the other symptoms listed above occur.

Jeep has mind of its own. no start, no headlights, wipers work on their own and spray all fluid. jeep shuts off driving, then cant shut engine off with key.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled more than once without warning. the horn sounded and the computer shorted. the key was able to be removed with the vehicle still running and had not turned off. the vehicle was towed to the dealer (safford chrysler jeep dodge ram fiat of winchester, 1659 berryville pike, winchester, va 22603, (540) 667-5532) who stated that the pcm needed to be replaced. the dealer replaced the part and the failure recurred. the vehicle stalled at 60 mph. the key was removed and the state trooper had to direct traffic because of the failure. the vehicle was towed back to the dealer who indicated that the tipm needed to be replaced. the vehicle had been at the dealer's for months with no solution. the service center manager escalated the concern to the manufacturer. a case manager was to follow up with the contact to determine if a solution was recommended from the manufacturer. the dealer also mentioned a warranty, but did not disclose if there would be a repair concerning the remedy. the manufacturer issued an electrical recall for the 2007 model, but not the 2008 model. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

Horn, wipers, wiper fluid, air conditioner, and tail lights will all randomly start going off, and not even shutting down the engine and removing the key stops it.

Walked to vehicle, pressed unlock on key fob, all electrical seemed to go off at once. horn blaring, lights flashing, windshield wipers going, and windshield washer fluid spraying out. tried pressing all buttons on key fob to shut it off, didn't work. out key in ignition and turned it. did nothing. after a couple of minutes it quit on its own. same thing happened two other times today. google shows same symptoms with all jeeps and other chrysler vehicles 2007 - present. issue appears to be faulty tipm module. contacted dealer and chrysler/jeep. same answer from both, no recall. so i pay to get it fixed, and hope the replacement part doesn't reap out.

Driving jeep in downtown traffic suddenly horn, signal light, wipers started working with no input from from me pulled over tried to turn jeep off kept running . had to pull fuse to shut engine off. was told it was the tipm and was told it would cost over $1000 to fix !!!!!! was also told they were having lots of problems with this . needs to be a recall !!! hopefully you do not drag your heals like you did on the clock spring !

Vehicle stationary and in motion a single ding will go off every couple of minutes, more often at slower speeds. no dash light on no indication as to why it is dinging. also parked on hill when i put it in reverse to begin going into motion the vehicle shakes at an unsettling feeling until i get to flat ground and put it into drive.

Car at random will not start, lights will not work or radio will stop working ... check engine light stays on without any engine issues ... to pump fuel it takes 20 minutes to fill it up you can't walk away or it will over flow ... jeep left me sit the other day and no garage can tell me whats wrong with it... its not the starter ...

Tipm module - why has there not been a recall on the tipm modules. this is a safety hazard. there are tons of complaints on this. jeep needs to stand behind their product. i have less than 50,000 miles on the jeep and should not be having to replace this module. this is a $1500 fix and they are notorious for going out.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. while the vehicle was stationary, the ignition failed to start the vehicle. the contact stated that the ignition made a clicking sound and hesitated to start. neuwirth motors in wilmington, north carolina was made aware of the failure and replaced the ignition and the starter, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that the horn, wipers, and power locks independently functioned. the failures occurred without warning. the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and the battery was disconnected in order for the failure to cease. prior to the failure, the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be remedied for a similar failure. the technician diagnosed that the remedy for nhtsa campaign number: 16v290000 (air bags) would need to be performed in order for the malfunction to be resolved. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was approximately 69,000.

Lights flicker on and off, horn honks uncontrollably, wipers go crazy, alarm go's on and off.

On two occasions now the horn, wipers and windshield wash have come on by themselves. they would shut not off until the vehicle was shut down.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. while at a stop light, the horn erroneously sounded, the windshield wipers and wiper fluid activated, and the headlights flashed. after approximately ten minutes, the failures stopped and the vehicle operated normally. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 55,000.

While driving the wipers horn and windshield washer fluid randomly comes on and the jeep will just stall wherever you are and won't start back up. *tr

My 2008 jeep wrangler. 3.8l, has had a tipm issue for years,i ve had it to the dealer and they could not find the issue, but through research i have seen that many people have had the same issues, horn blowing and wont stop, washer and wipers come on and wont stop until battery is disconnected, door lock work when they want to,a/c blower works when it wants to..all of which return to normal after disconnecting the battery and then re-connecting, at least temporarily...but every time i drive it i worry about it going crazy...today it shut off completely on me going 70mph on a busy freeway, almost caused an accident, again after disconnecting the battery(on the side of a very busy freeway)it returned to normal and i drove it straight to the dealer again..chrysler knows this is an issue, i will pay to have it replaced myself ($1200)and hope that's the whole issue, but this issue is much larger if you watch you tube videos and read the jeep forums...this will cause accidents or worse.....chrysler should recall these as they have others.....

Randomly the horn starts going off, wiper fluid shooting out and the wipers going like crazy, air conditioner not working. nothing you can do will make it stop, it just, after several minutes does stop. variation of this has happened 6 times over the last two months. the dealer cannot figure out what is wrong and says will not be able to unless we can bring it in while the car is looking possessed. they acknowledge that it may be the tipm but cannot confirm and given the expense of replacing it don't recommend that we do so without knowing for sure this is the problem. of course this makes it a problem to be driving this car, as you never know when the wipers and horn will start going crazy. this has happened both when the vehicle is stationary and while driving.

Head lights and interior dome lights go off and on .car is not running. key is not in ignation. while driving clock goes dark and comes back on spontaneously. while parked overnight battery is drained completely. difficulty starting car need to turn key to off position and lightly push on gear shift leavor, then vehicle will start. the all happens when vehicle is either running or parked in off position

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. whether the vehicle was being driven or parked, the instrument panel lighting illuminated, and the alarms, locks, and windshield wipers activated on their own. the failures stopped when the contact turned the vehicle on and off. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repai red. the failure mileage was 41,500...updated 04/11/17 *bf *cn

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. while driving 35 mph, the horn, wipers, and washer fluid operated independently. the contact turned the vehicle off and removed the key from the ignition, but the failure persisted. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the controller for the front windshield wiper needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was then towed to another independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rear windshield wiper was disconnected and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. the vehicle was towed to a dealer who was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 109,000. the vin was unavailable.

The engine compartment burst into flames after a 15 mile drive home from work. no warning, no nothing! within ten minutes the entire engine compartment was engulfed in an out of control electrical fire. we had just purchased the vehicle from what we thought was a reputable dealer (obviously not). had taken it back twice in 10 days and on the 13th day and after only 500 miles it decides to spontaneously combust! this is a serious issue with these vehicles and something needs to be done! if it had happened in the garage or worse just 10 minutes earlier while filling up the gas tank what would the outcome have been? this is a very serious issue and our stupid government needs to do something and quit worrying about all the political nonsense all day every day! what the heck are we paying you bureaucrats for? nothing?

My airbag light continues to go on and off while driving. upon investigation i am not the only owner who has been experiencing this issue, it is quite common.

Abnormal flashing of instruments panel. speedometer and gauges turn off while vehicle was in motion, turn signal indicator go off and on. vehicle temporarily loses engine power. intermittent loss of electrical power to all dashboard components. radio, blinkers, wipers go on or off on their own. vehicle ignition won't start. diagnosed by dealership as: tipcm failure; "computer fried" i had to pay for a new wiring harness, had to replace fuse box, brand new sway bar control module along with a brand new tipcm computer bought from dealer. dealership won't cover repair cost nor is covered by jeep manufacturer's warranty.

Horn/wipers/lights all come on at once. this has happened both with the car running and with it unoccupied and not running

Headlights continue to go out. daughter has to drive home with fog lights. engine fan comes on and off. took to jeep they said it was a short and it worked for a month, same thing. after research it appears the tipm is bad, lots of complaints etc. online regarding this issue. the lights have gone off while driving on highway, and city street and also after the car was parked at work all day. it is random. i have tapped on the tipm module and then turned on the lights and they work again for a day or two and then go out again. this has happened several times since december 2015, the last time was march 5, 2016.

To date this is the 3rd time in a year i have parked my jeep got out key in hand and for no apparent reason my horn and wipers have gone crazy had to pull battery terminals to get it to stop and now will not start back

I have no safety horn, no airbags, no cruise control and tire presure monitore gives faulty reading. all because of and due to a bad clock spring under the steering wheel.

While driving home last night during a snow storm at approx. 50 mph the engine stalled and the lights started going on and off. thankfully i was able to make it to the highway shoulder and stop. i attempted to restart the engine but it would not (the light continued to flicker on and off sporadically, they finally stopped after i turned the emergency flashers on. i tried to restart the engine and it started but the lights started their on and off dance again so i went through the process of shutting it off and managed to get the light to stop by turning the emergency flashers off then on again. after approx. 15 to 20 minute i tried a restart and it started with no symptom's so i was able to drive home with no further incident.

In 2009 my tipm failed and i experienced the 'possessed jeep' condition where everything turned on (lights, turn signals, horn, radio blasting with no display). i took it to the dealer and they replaced free of charge (under 5 year warranty). in 2012 my rear brake calipers seized on both the passenger and driver side, they were glowing cherry-red after a 1 hour commute into work, perfect to start a fire if i had pulled into a gas station with some gas spilled on the ground or something. i got after-market calipers because the guy at auto zone said that he had several customers with the same issue that replaced it with factory calipers and they failed within 40000 miles, they went with after-market calipers and never had a problem, i have not had a problem since myself. well now all of a sudden my horn, front passenger parking lamp/turn signal stopped working. there are no blown fuses or unhooked wires, everything is stock (i bought the vehicle brand new). at this same time, my passenger seat keeps coming unlatched and flying forward and back (as if someone were trying to enter the back seat). i can push the seat back into position, but it will fly forward all by itself at random. this started immediately with the horn and passenger parking lamp issue. this is dangerous and presents a choking hazard, especially if someone is sitting in the seat with the seat belt fastened. since the horn has stopped working, i am concerned that my air-bag may not deploy (clock-spring issue) or if it is that tipm again. i don't think i should need to pay for yet another tipm this should be covered for the life of the vehicle since it is a safety hazard.

Car parked and stationary at home. opened the rear door (with keys in hand, not in ignition) and the front windshield wipers started going and the running lights came on. after 1-2 minutes the horn started blowing and the heater blower motor came on. putting the key in ignition or not made no difference. pulled the positive terminal off of the battery and everything stopped. reconnected the positive terminal and nothing unusual happened. tried starting the car to test and the key activated the dash but would not start the engine but normal dash lights came on. while trying different things (shift to neutral, park, on, off, etc) the wipers (front and rear), blower, running lights and horn all came back on and the engine started without turning the key from run to start. wipers and blower speed changed without touching any controls. blower speed could be changed through switch, but when blower switch turned to off, blower went to high speed. pulled positive terminal and negative terminals from battery with no change ' everything still running. had to pull wires off the alternator to stop everything. the heater blower had stopped on this vehicle a year or so ago and after testing and replacing all blower parts with new parts it was determined that the tipm was at fault. tipm has not yet been replaced (but will be). if this had happened while the vehicle had been in motion, it would have (at the very least) panicked the driver. i am going to reconnect the battery and attempt to video the results.

Without warning ... horn starts blowing, windshield washer comes on, lights flash, door locks won't work, key switch off doesn't stop the problem, so far have able to pull off the road and open the hood to disconnect the battery. reconnecting the battery sometimes works but the heater/ac stops working... this situation is a real road hazard!!! after awhile things work ok until it repeats. very dangerous car to be on the road. jeep service people respond by saying that that they find nothing wrong! well sure, the event is over when we are able to bring the vehicle in to be "fixed"! basis for a class action suit for sure! vehicle has been in motion on the highway and stationary when this has happened.

Failed clockspring at 104,000 miles. intermitted airbag light.

Vehicle horn stopped working. no accident or event occurred. possible malfunction. tried to use the horn while in motion on the road, no horn sound when pressing into the steering wheel. vehicle horn does sound when locking the vehicle and when setting off the "panic" alarm. this leads me to believe there is an issue with the clock spring. took vehicle to maintenance shop, staff said the horn is in good working order, but the clock spring is likely "bad".

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the clock spring and the total integrated power module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 60,401. the vin was not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the windshield whippers activated independently and all the warning indicators illuminated. the contact also stated that the radio began activating and deactivating. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the total integrated power module failed. the contact also stated that the total integrated power module was previously replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 133,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep wrangler. while driving at any rate of speed, the vehicle continuously stalled without warning. the contact had to make several attempts to get the vehicle to restart each time the failure recurred. the vehicle was unable to be driven due to the failure and was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing and repair. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no remedy. the approximate failure mileage was 220,000.

Odometer will not function. comes on for awhile, sometimes blinks and other times will not work. took to dealership and indicated internal failure need to order cluster and replace.

On my 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, seems to happen when turning steering wheel. dealership diagnosed as a faulty clockspring. this has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. this faulty clockspring is the culprit for airbag failure in the 2008 jeep wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. daimler chrysler has refused to address the safety concern on 2008 lhd of their faulty clockspring. (this is the same exact part & # as those recalled from your investigation #pe11019.) please help us...many many reporting same issue

Jeep is possessed. horn, wipers, wiper washer, a/c, radiator fan, door locks, and lights turn on at random intervals even when vehicle is shut off and no key in ignition. same behavior occurs while drving. in one case the putting the vehicle in reverse cause the problem.
