Problems with 2006 Jeep Wrangler FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2006 Jeep Wrangler starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 52 174 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2006 Jeep Wrangler

I was filling up the jeep and the gas spill out form the nozzle. i have read online and it seems to be a constant issue. this is not the first time it happened to me and i have been to several different gas stations. *tr

When filling the fuel tank, regardless of fast or slow, gas spews out of the fill port when the tank if full. fast, it spews gas about 2 feet out from the vehicle, slow, it just runs out the filler spout without shutting the pump off. this is very dangerous as i usually loose a couple cups of fuel on the ground every time i fill up. *tr

When filling the gas tank there doesn't appear to be any shut-off when the tank is full. i've owned the jeep for 2 months now and this has happened 3 times. when the gas tank gets full it spits out the gasoline instead of shutting off the pump handle like it is supposed to. i have searched the internet and have not found any mention of a recall for this problem. please advise if there is a fix for this. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that fuel spilled to the ground when the fuel tank was filled. the vehicle was taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed which located the failure at the fuel tank valve. the dealer advised that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000 and the approximate current mileage was 85,000.

When fueling my 2006 jeep lj gas sprays out all over the side of the jeep and anyone standing near the back of the jeep when the tank is full and the pump trips off. *tr

When filling the tank, rather than shutting off the gas, it burps and overflows. this happens every time i fill it. *tr

When filling up the gas tank, fuel sloshes out of the filler spout just before the pump clicks off. the back-splash volume is large enough to splash onto clothes, run down the side of the vehicle, and leave a small puddle of gasoline on the pavement. *tr

Regardless of how fuel nozzle is placed, fuel tank over fills approx 1/8th-1/3th gallon of fuel. i fear this could cause a fire in the event fuel splashed onto brake rotor or other hot components, not to mention the environmental and financial impact of this issue directly related to poor design. *tr

Every jeep owner i have talked to has a filling splash-back problem when filling their gas tank. why hasn't there been a recall on all the jeeps and other models with this same problem.. get going on this it is not an isolated problem. all jeeps,,,,, can you read ? all are having this problem... big safety and health issue. not one place but here did i find to list the problem as a safety issue. too many sitting on their backsides and doing nothing on this safety issue. read between the lines and get going. a very disgruntled tax payer and owner of a faulty product that is un-safe and un-healthy with nothing being done about it. get my drift?..... *tr

The gas tank overflows when it is being filled. this is a serious fire hazard to both the vehicle owner and the general public as a large quantity of gas overflows out of the tank. *tr

Every time i fill up with fuel, the fuel overflows out of the vehicle and dumps gasoline onto me and the ground. this has a long term health effect on persons filling the vehicle. it has an immediate effect on the environment, and i will be notifying the epa of this issue as well. i see from various jeep websites that this is a long standing issue that has not been addressed. *tr

When putting gas in my jeep using a fuel pump gas runs out all down the side of my vehicle and makes a puddle on the ground before the pump clicks off. this has been happening for over a year now. it happens every time i fill up my car unless i happen to hear how close the gas level is getting and shut the pump off on my own. *tr

Gas spill out when fueling to now will not take gas at all without major spillage. *tr

Every time i fill up the tank, fuel is ejected from the filler hose and goes all over the side of the jeep and the ground and usually myself. the auto-shut off works on the pumps but fuel still comes out. i've tried using "half throttle" on the pump but still have the same problem. i've looked through many jeep forums and it appears there is a fairly large range of wranglers throughout different model years that have this issue. how has this not been a recall? this can't be safe to have fuel shooting out every time you fill up. *tr

When i fill up with fuel after pump shuts off fuel gushes out on side of jeep and onto ground. *tr

I bought this vehicle used and the first time i went to fill up with gas, i put the nozzle in the filler opening and squeezed the handle all the way. i locked the handle so the gasoline would continue to flow and let go of the nozzle. around the 16 gallon mark, gasoline shot out of the filler opening and then poured down the side of the jeep. enough came out that it created a small puddle on the ground. gasoline got all over the side of the jeep and the fender. it also sprayed my hand as i was standing near it. i had to wipe down the fender and side of jeep because i didn't want to cause any damage to paint or plastic. i found this same problem each and every time i've filled the tank since that time. i've tried different gas stations and nozzles but it doesn't seem to matter. this is completely unacceptable in my opinion and forces me to barely trickle the gas into the tank by only squeezing the handle part way. if i don't do this, i spill gas onto the ground and the side of my jeep with each fill. after researching this problem, i've found it is very common in my model year and the years surrounding. why won't chrysler just fix this?! *tr

Every time i fill up my wrangler, it burps out fuel. this happens regardless of the speed of flow the gas( i have had this issue when slowly filling up as well as when the pump is engaged and "locked" on too. it is ridiculous that fuel spills every time i have to get some. *tr

At every fill up fuel spills all over myself ,my car and the floor. very unsafe! automatic shut off never kicks in when full. how many complaints do you need and for how many years! does anybody actually read them besides the consumer? there are over 500 complaints of this on this website alone. what does it take to get a recall? *tr

I own a 2006 jeep tj rubicon & am having a refueling issue at the gas pump. at first it overflowed maybe twice. now i can't refuel without the shut -off (on the gas pump) shutting off. the only way i can refuel is by holding the pump lever gently which does results in an over flow. i talked to chrysler customer service & they said this is the first time they have heard of this problem & made an appointment for me for diagnostics a my local dealership which will cost me $120.00 for a problem that other tj owners are talking about on the internet. this has been a refueling problem for the last 6 months. *tr

Over fills at the fuel pump all the time.

Fuel sprays over onto the ground, jeep and owner when refueling. *tr

While pumping gas at multiple different gas stations, the pump failed to shut off when the fuel tank became fuel. as a result of the pump not shutting off, fuel spilled out of the tank as it became overfilled. i did not leave the pump nor did i set the lock on the pump so i would not have to hold the pump handle during any of the times i have pumped gas into the vehicle to avoid spilling fuel the best i can. this happens at many different stations that i fill my fuel tank up at, the only common denominator in my situation is the vehicle itself. the vehicle has not been modified in any way that would interfere with normal fuel pumping procedure. *tr

When fueling my jeep wrangler and all gas stations, the gas tank overflows when before the fuel cutoff switch on the gas pumps kicks off. every single time this happens. there is a problem with the filler hose somehow from the factory. not only does it leak out the top of spout but it sprays everywhere, on clothes and anything nearby within 3 feet. probably half a cup of gas give or take at every fuel stop in my estimation. *tr

When fueling, it always overflows and spills fuel out from the gas tank. it seems to be a bit better if i manually hold the fuel pump and pump the gas at an extremely slow rate. i am not able to let the pump automatically fill otherwise fuel spills. this happens every time i fuel the jeep. *tr

Consistently, while refueling the vehicle, regardless of fill rate, if the nozzle is not stopped manually, gasoline erupts from the filler neck when the tank is full. it is usually enough to leave gas dripping down the vehicle and a small puddle underneath. this happens each and every time it is filled. *tr

During refueling gasoline spits back out of the fuel filler tube neck at the end of the fill onto the ground and the person refueling the jeep if holding the nozzle. the personal information section of this form will not accept as valid my phone number in germany [xxx]. the number i placed in the phone fields is not valid. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Fuel system spews fuel all over vehicle and operator when filling. will not shut off on its own. *tr

When filling up gas tank, fuel spills from the filling port all over once it is full. this happens every time i fill up and has done since i purchased the car in february 2011. *tr

Every time i refuel my 2006 jeep the gas sprays out of the filler tube until i remove the gas pump manually. this is a known jeep issue that requires a replacement gas tank. our environment and my body/clothes should not get covered in gasoline every time i refuel! please make chrysler fix all jeep models with this issue. *tr

Fuel splash-back upon filling vehicle with fuel. fuel covers out side corner of vehicle and ground creating hazardous conditions as well as polluting ground water. *tr

Adding gasoline to gas tank at a filling station with a standard pump nozzle, will always result in an expulsion of gasoline from the vehicle filler opening when the tank is full. the pump nozzle does shut off the delivery of fuel, but a suspected design flaw permits gasoline to erupt out of the filler opening, which will splash onto an unsuspecting person doing the refilling, onto his shoes, and run down the outside of vehicle, creating an unnecessary health and safety hazard. video documentation can be easily found with a quick search on youtube. *tr

When fueling vehicle, at about 7/8 full point, gas sprayed out of fuel neck onto me. then cut off on the pump never engaged. has happened numerous times. *js

Fuel spills out of the filler port due to incorrect engagement of the stop on fuel pump nozzles. this is due to a malfunctioning icv. the jeep has been doing this since i have owned it and the previous owner stated it did the same thing since he and his wife bought it in 2008 -when the vehicle was only two years old.

I bought my 2006 jeep wrangler rubicon new from a dealership. after few years i started having issues with fuel spitting out of the gas filler when filling up at a gas station. about 1/4 to 1/2 cup at a time. doesn't matter which staion or which pump i use. the pump i use would click off,but always a second too late. this is a very dangerous problem in that not only is it damaging my paint and wheel well flares but also spilling gas on the ground creating an environmental hazard as defined and regulated by the environmental protection agency, as well as splashing onto the person filling the jeep covering them in flammable chemicals and exposing them to long-term health issues through inhalation and skin absorption as addressed by the national institutes of health. not to mention with the fuel spilling out like that, it also creates a lot of fuel vapors. with jus a static spark, it could very well ingnite the fuel. i consider that a very dangerous situation.

Each time i refill the fuel tank, there is a large amount of splash back of fuel out of the filler after the gas pump shuts off when it detects that the tank is full. it started happening around 30000 miles on the odometer and happens every time i refuel the jeep. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep wrangler. while refueling, the fuel pump failed to shut off and caused fuel to spew out with force and spill onto the ground. the contact stated that this was a recurring failure. the vehicle was not taken in for diagnostic testing and was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000. updated 10/19/15 *bf

Overflow of gas when filling 100% of time. *tr

Gas spurts out of tank when i fill it up and drips all over gas station floor. the gas pump does not stop once its full like other cars and im worried spilled fuel could ignite. also bad for environment. *tr

Fueling the vehicle always results in fuel spray from the vent on the filler neck. this spray happens 100% of fuelings. the tank is often less than 90% full after this and requires topping and additional fuel spray. i have had to report to navy medical to have my eyes flushed and checked after being shot directly in the eyes while listening for the distinct sound of fuel bubbles rising to the top of the fuel filler neck. this causes on average 1/8 gallon of fuel to be spilled per fill up. over 40k miles at an average of 14mpg that is 22 gallons of fuel spilled and more evaporated. if filling stations require shut off valves, and all new vehicles require evaporative emissions systems to control environmental air quality, to the great detriment of gas mileage, why has this issue not been investigated by the federal government? why do we have to use shoddy gas cans with carb compliant nozzles which cause more fuel spills than normal fuel containers if the government is prepared to ignore this? i've begun using surplus nato jerry cans to fill my truck and avoid being soaked in dangerously flammable and cancer causing fuel. *tr

When refueling the vehicle, the gas tank overflows and spills a lot of gas. initially thought it was the pump, however, it happens at every gas station. this seems to be a significant safety hazard and someone could get hurt. *tt

Fuel spills every time i fill the tank. the thing that is supposed to shut off the nozzle does not work. *tr

When filling fuel tank gas pump shuts off too late, results in fuel spillage every time vehicle is filled unless the tank is not filled completely. gas blows back onto hand of person filling vehicle causing personal injury hazard, and also spills onto ground and vehicle causing fire hazard. the shut-off works, but comes too late to be effective - usually pump shuts off then momentarily later gas flies out of filler neck. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep wrangler. while refueling the vehicle, the contact noticed that fuel began to spill out of the filler neck. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

i was filling up my 06 jeep wrangler and i got sprayed with fuel on my body, jeep and ground. the problem has happened every time i try to fill my tank up to full. im concerned that static electricity might ignite this, myself or another human being. jeep/ chrysler refuses to fix this on my jeep. the same exact same thing was happening to my wife's 07 chrysler aspen and it was recalled and fixed. we bought both vehicles new and they have never been wrecked. jeep/ chrysler are risking peoples lives with this issue. *tr

Fuel tank filler neck spills gasoline forcefully over the side, fender flare and ground, which requires a spill kit to be used to cleanup the puddle created by this spill. this problem has occurred before and was fixed using the same faulty parts which at that time was under warranty. approximately 4000 miles later the same spilling of gasoline occurred but dealership said the vehicle was outside the warranty period and that it would cost me $1000 to repair. i believe this is an extreme fire hazard as well as a possibly severe injury to myself as the gasoline could fly into my eyes or unto my clothes. i demand a complete new fuel tank configuration and fuel filler neck parts. two exact problems means faulty equipment parts and should be repaired with updated parts. the first time it was fixed is listed below.

Gas tank overflows with fuel when filling gas tank and sprays back on you and to ground. i attached a link to a youtube video. this is not my car but i have the exact same problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zouvokeolo8

Gas tank has splash back every time you fuel it spilling gas out onto fender and ground. *tr

Every time i fuel up unless i listen very carefully to the change in the sound of the gasoline from the pump into the tank the fuel filler fails to automatically cut off without overflowing. every wrangle unlimited owner i have asked experiences the same problem, yet chrysler fails to acknowledge the issue. i am personally unaware of any fires resulting from this problem, but the potential definitely exists. *js

Fuel spill on every fill up. *tr

Ever since i bought my 2006 jeep wrangler unlimited rubicon, i have problems when refueling the car. i bought my car second-hand. if i leave the gas nozzle on 'auto', the auto-shutoff of the pump shuts off too late, resulting in a gush of gasoline squirting out of the tank. the only way to prevent any spilling of gas during fuelling is to listen to the noise that the escaping air out of the tank makes, or guesstimating roughly how much gas the car needs, then manually very slowly continue to fill up. *tr
