When filling up the gas tank, the tank will overflow. it happens regularly, approximately 1 in every 5 fills. it occurs at different filling stations using different pumps. many jeep owners have reported this problem. it is a safety concern and the defective component should be recalled. *tr
2006 jeep wrangler that has had a problem with overflowing fuel while filling it up since acquired at 7,000 miles. this problem poses a significant safety problem as well as a negative environmental impact. the problem has been reported to chrysler, but they stated my jeep wasn't affected by the recall that they have issued on the exact same fuel tank components being used in other models. *tr
1. empty gas tank. then went to fill said empty tank. 2. jeep overflows every time i fill the tank. splashes fuel down the side of the jeep and onto the ground. 3. i have held the nozzle at different angles and different depths in the fuel tank filler neck but all lead to the same results with no varying in fuel overflow amounts. mentioned to jeep dealership, no problem must be my fault, discussed with fellow jeep owners and searched online all to no avail. *tw
Fuel overflow when filling up, happens every time.
Summary:each time the fuel tank is filled, gasoline gushes out the fill spout on to the vehicle and the ground or pavement. this can not be avoided if completely filling the vehicle with fuel. fuel tank can only partially be filled. this problem poses an extreme fire danger to any person filling the fuel tank. sure hope that someone don't die in order for something to actually get done! *tr
Fuel sprays out during refueling my 06' jeep wrangler at the point where the nozzle is inserted. i have to stand back about 4 feet to prevent getting sprayed with fuel. *tr
2006 jeep wrangler sport. gas overflows or gushes out every time at the pump when the tank gets full. happens every time and is a safety issue. nobody injured, but it costs me money at the pump. a bunch of other guys i know with wranglers have this same issue. i am convinced that there should be a recall on this to fix the defective tank. *tr
2006 jeep wrangler unlimited 4.0 l when fueling this vehicle, fuel spills out of the filler neck every time. this occurs even when the fuel nozzle is not depressed to full volume. fuel can slosh several feet from the filler neck. this is a potential safety hazard for several reasons. i have had fuel spilled onto my skin and nearly into my eyes. there is also significant fire hazard due to the pressurized nature and velocity of the fuel coming up the neck. please investigate, this is a common problem on this make and model. i purchased this jeep in april 2009 and it has occurred every fill. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep wrangler unlimited. the contact stated that when filling the fuel tank, the fuel spilled back out. the vehicle was inspected by an authorized dealer who stated that the ball flap was stuck in the open position. the vehicle was repaired but the failure continued. the vehicle had not been repaired again. the failure mileage was 20,232.
2006 lj "unlimited" jeep wrangler fuel overflows from filler nozzle when filling up. happens when pump nozzle cuts off when tank is full. happens every time. spews gas out of nozzle onto ground and down the side of the jeep. *tr
The fuel spits back out when full as i fill the tank up. not just a little, but a lot of gas spills out on me, the ground, and the ground. i have tried many different gas pumps at different gas stations. jeep knows about the issue, but hasn't recalled it yet. they only replace your gas tank with the same one that will still cause the same problem. it is a serious health and environmental issue. *tr
My 2006 jeep wrangler started blowing back gas out of the tank everytime i fill it up. i have tried to be ultra careful to stop it when it sounds like it's getting full, but even then within a couple of seconds it still overflows out onto the vehicle, the ground and me. it has been on going since my jeep hit around 35,000 miles. *tr
The auto shut-off feature of the fuel system does not work. when i fill up the gas tank, fuel will spray / spill out. the first occurrence that i experienced was around 40k miles. i brought it to the dealership (as it was still under warranty). they advised me that they could find nothing wrong. at that point, it was occurring intermittently. at some point shortly after the warranty expired, the auto shut-off feature of the fuel system failed completely. now, every time that i fill up the gas tank, fuel will spray / spill out. this issue continues to this day. this is a safety issue (fuel spilled on the vehicle, on the operator and on the ground) and an environmental issue (fuel spilled on the ground), not to mention the economic issue of paying for wasted gasoline at about $4 per gallon. based upon the number of reported issues with this, i can't believe that there has not been a recall to remediate this problem. there is definitely something faulty with the design and/or manufacture of the parts used in the 2006 jeep wrangler. this is not something that someone should have to deal with in a vehicle that they purchased when new and have impeccably maintained. *tr
When adding fuel to the 2006 jeep wrangler either with an automatic shut off pump or by hand the fuel over sprays out of the nozzle hole when the tank becomes full. this happens at any speed you add fuel spilling gas all over the side of the vehicle, on the person adding the fuel, and all over the ground at the gas station. this most likely is caused but vacuum pressure not being released correctly by the fuel inlet hose and would be a design and manufacture flaw. *tr
Fuel overflows while filling up tank creating a very hazardous condition. often times splashing on the person filling it up. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the vehicle made a loud creaking noise when shifting gears. the contact also stated that when refueling, gasoline would leak from the filler nozzle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated that the pressure point needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 4,000. *tr
The fuel over flows every time it is refueled. the speed of the fuel process does not affect the spillage. *tr
I have not been able to fill up my 2006 jeep wrangler since the day i bought it. when the tank is "full", the gas over flows out of the filler tube and goes all over the fender flare and rear quarter panel. sometimes, if i don't get out of the way fast enough, i'll get gas on me as well. *tr
When filling up my vehicle at the gas pump, the gasoline would overflow. the gas would pump normally. when the tank filled up, the automatic shut off would click off and gas would stop flowing. about 2 seconds later gas would come spewing out of the neck. this would happen no matter what gas station or pump i used. i took the vehicle to a chrysler dealer and they replaced the entire gas tank. this solved the problem. *tr
When pumping gas in my 2006 wrangler the pump doesn't cut off and it overflows everytime i fill up. the first couple of times i got gas on my clothes, shoes, the ground, and the jeep. now i stand back and try to listen and manually cut the pump off, but fairly often it still shoots gas back out(about half a gallon if i didn't pay attention like the first time). after doing research, the only solution i can find is replacing the gas tank with another doomed to fail tank. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that while refueling the vehicle, fuel spewed back onto the contact. the failure recurred every time the contact refueled the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed an inspection and advised that the problem was caused by a defective check valve in the fuel system. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who offered to cover half of the repair costs. the failure mileage was 40,000. the current mileage was 98,000. updated 10/10/12 *cn
Every single time i fill up the gas tank on my 2006 jeep wrangler tj unlimited, the fuel shoots out of the tank because the nozzle stop must be set to shut off higher than the jeep fuel tank will allow for it to fill. i have even tried to trickle fuel in at the end of the fill up and it still shoots fuel everywhere. this is an every fill up occurrence and not just from time to time.
2006 jeep wrangler rubicon - problem started to occur at 49k miles(could have been earlier-i bought the car at this mileage, 2nd owner). gas would spit/flow out of the fill port before the pump clicks off for full. it always goes on your hands, clothes, floor and down the side of the jeep. at 52k(currently have 84k) it happens every time now. so now you have to put your ear close to the gas tank and listen for it to become almost full, and stop pumping quickly before it overfills and spits out.(this is the only way to get a full tank) on several occasions, if there is a lot of ambient noise, you will miss the "almost full" sounds and it'll spray gasoline on your face/clothes. i'm sick of dealing with this issue, im out of warranty, so dealer is no help. also when traveling to nj, the gas attendants are full serve only by law, and they complain to me every time i need to get gas in nj. it spits gas all over the attendant. this is a serious safety issue, i get gas on my skin almost every time i'm refueling the jeep. chrysler/jeep needs to do a recall. there are thousands+ of these complaints. *tr
Every time we fill up the fuel tank the fuel spills over and runs down the side of the vehicle causing a stain on the paint we have now resorted to listening to the fuel as it fills in an attempt to stop it and that only works once in a while we have put the pump on slow but this does no good either i have read many jeep forums and this is a common problem not only does it waste fuel but it is an air pollution issue and a fire safety hazard most of the forums say the fuel tank needs to be replaced due to a sticking valve but that is very expensive (this is what some have had to do to fix the problem) also i own two jeep grand cherokees and have never had this problem with either of them so i was surprised when this happened on the wrangler as it was the most recent purchase if it is a defect in design i think chrysler should fix it at no charge to the consumer before someone is hurt. *tt
While refueling vehicle, when full tank condition is reached, with nozzle correctly inserted into fuel filler, liquid fuel squirts from fuel filler hose onto vehicle fender, ground and person filling tank. as time went on, condition worsened and at current time, fuel nozzle at station can only be held open half way or an automatic nozzle shutoff occurs, regardless of tank level. fuel spillage happens at every refueling stop, regardless of nozzle flow position, when full tank condition is reached. *tr
The fuel tank overflows when filling at the fuel pump. fuel tank ventilation hose problem. environmental, safety, and fire hazard. *tr
2006 wrangler, pump only stops after about 1/4 gallon of gas has spewed out of the filler tube. every time. every station. all seasons. all temp ranges. *tr
When filling up my 2006 jeep wrangler rubicon gas will spray out on initial shut off of the gas pump. i've had this problem looked at, but was told it was normal for that to happen from time to time. then, i complained to jeep and they allowed the dealership to switch out tanks because my jeep was under warranty. this was only a temporary fix...gas still sprays out!!! *tr
Gas tank in jeep overflows whenever filled with gas. *kb
Like many other 2006 jeep wrangler owners, my gas tank overflows every time i fill up my tank. the mechanic at the jeep dealership (supposedly an expert in the field) doesn't seem to know how to fix it, and i still have not found a solution to the problem. *tr
During gas fill ups, gasoline will shoot out of the fill nozzle when the tank reaches full. this causes gasoline to spill to the ground. the amount varies from a dribble to about a cup. slowing the fill rate towards the end of the fill will generally prevent the spillage but is not guaranteed. this is an every fill up occurrence. *tr
Gas overflows when i fill my jeep wrangler unlimited 06 all the way up. no auto shut off internally in tank. *tr
Every time i fill the tank with gasoline, it spews out and runs out on the ground and down the vehicle side. this did not occur when the vehicle was new, it started when the vehicle was about two years old. it does, however, happen every time i fill the tank, now. it seems to me that this is not only a fire hazard, but a big environmental hazard. *tr
Every time i fill up the fuel tank at the gas station (any gas station) the gas overflows and spills out on the ground. *tr
Fuel over flows out of filler neck after fuel nozzle shuts off. the jeep, ground and myself end up covered in fuel everytime i fuel up. *tr
Gas tank overflows on every fill - no matter which gas station, pump, etc (all over the east coast) the auto shutoff fires only after a cup or more of gas is spilled. this has resulted in me being covered in gasoline repeatedly, not to mention the amount of gas spilled to the ground each time it is filled. (even filling extremely slowly results in a spill.) *tr
Each time the fuel tank is filled, gasoline gushes out the fill spout on to the vehicle and the ground or pavement. this can not be avoided if completely filling the vehicle with fuel. fuel tank can only partially be filled. this problem poses an extreme fire danger to any person filling the fuel tank.
Every time you fill the vehicle up with gas, gas comes pouring out of the filler opening. this happens on all types of gas pumps. something is wrong with the tank of venting system because the pumps never automatically shut off when the tank is full. gas spills all over the side of the car. many other jeep owners have this same problem.
The gas always over fills and spills out when your filling it up. this happens everytime i fill up the gas. it does not matter what station i am at or what the weather is like. this has been happening ever since i bought the jeep. everyone i know that owns a jeep has the same problem occurring. this is a major fire hazard and also not what i want to happen when gas is almost $4.00 a gallon. *tr
When filling gas tank. fuel spits out of fill tube before pump auto shut off kicks in. fuel is spilled on vehicle, filling stations ground and fuel get on the person filling the tank. has happened to myself as well as people at "full service" stations. *tr
Every time i try to fill the gas tank up to full, the fuel will overflow out of the filler neck. also, when i pump gas, the fuel will often backflow into the pump, causing it to shut off prematurely (about every 10 seconds, regardless of amount of gas in tank). this has been an ongoing problem ever since i first purchased the vehicle. my only choice is to never fill my gas tank all the way, and pump the gas slowly. *tr
I have a 2006 jeep wrangler x, there is a fault from the factory gas tank, which when i fill my tank with fuel it does not allow the pump to auto shut off, and spews a decent amount of gas from the vehicle. this happens when ever i fill up. i have not found a way to correct this issue, and the only thing that seems to be happening to fix it, is replacing the tank with an oe style tank that has the same faulty valve inside it. *tr
When refueling the vehicle, the fuel does not automatically shut off and splashes out down the side the vehicle, onto the ground and all over the person fueling the vehicle. this happens every time the vehicle needs to be refueled. nothing has been found to stop this from happening. the dealer is unwilling to assist in solving the problem. *tr
When fueling the the tank burps fuel out the vehicle fill tube after the fill nozzle has shut off. this occurs often. at first occurrence i assumed that the flow into the tank was too fast, and began slow filling to prevent it this initially has some success, as it did not happen every time. the problem has gotten worse, and now it happens every time even when filling slow.
Upon commencement of fuel refilling, the fuel does not enter the tank, fuel spills are recurrent and of a large quantity. when fuel level reaches near capacity, fuel spillage occurs. *tr
Nothing leading up to it. it happens every time i fill the gas tank. it overflows all over the ground. it has happened since i bought my jeep brand new in 2006. i have done nothing to fix it except never actually fill it all the way i usually stop about a gallon or two short. but sometimes don't let go of the pump in time and it still overflows. *tr
Every time i fill up my gas tank it overflows, spilling gas down my jeep before automatically shutting off the gas coming out of the hose. this has happened every time since i purchased it new from the dealership. many other jeep friends have voiced the same problem.
Every time i fill up with gas the gas will overflow from the fill hole. i would estimate about 2 cups of gas spills before the gas shuts off. it is a huge safety issue and horrible for the environment. *tr
I recently purchased a 2006 jeep wrangler with 37,000 miles. when filling the gas tank on my jeep the fuel will not stop flow when the tank is full. instead gas spews out of the filler every time i refuel, resulting in a significant loss of fuel. this happens every time i refuel and occurs at different gas stations. after reading multiple complaints regarding the same issue on the internet suggesting that it is a problem with the jeep itself, i wanted to report this event. *tt
I have a 2006 jeep wrangler. everytime i fuel my vehicle at the pump, fuel will spew out before the pump shuts off. i asked the dealer about this when i first purchased the vehicle and stated that they would not do anything about and blamed it on me basically. i started putting the fuel in slower and it works most of the time but sometimes i still will have fuel spew out before the pump clicks off, no matter how slow i try. searching online forums, i have found out i am not the only one to have this problem, on the contrary there are many others with this same exact problem, between 97-06 tj jeep wrangler models. *tr
