A while ago i had the climate controls go out in my 1999 jeep wrangler. upon investigation, i found that the wiring harness connector and the climate controls had melted due to the heat generated from the electrical connection. i replaced the climate controls in my jeep, however, the electrical wiring still gets very hot. i did some checking in jeep forums and apparently, this is a common occurrence in the "tj" jeep model. i am enclosing a link to an article that addresses this issue, in it the authors determined that the uncorrected wiring can reach 122 degrees. http://www.jpmagazine.com/techarticles/electrical/154_0710_jeep_fire_prevention/index.html. *tr
A/c-heater fan control switch burns out every 2 to 4 years. i am the original owner of a 99 jeep tj wrangler. i have replaced the fan control switch 4 times now. each time the pigtail has fried as well and needed replacing. first time dealer replaced under warranty. second, third and fourth time i paid to have it replaced. after 3rd time i wrote to chrysler and explained and showed all dealer repair paper work and they reimbursed with check for one repair. dealer gave me a credit on an additional repair. this last (4th) repair i found out that chrysler knows about the issue, and has reduced the price of the replacement part by half. i was told to expect this to be a normal repair every 2 to 4 years for as long as i have the vehicle. i was told for a few model years they have constant power to the fan and this eventually leads to a burn out. sometimes causing more damage if the flareup is big. chrysler won't do any more reimb. and no plans to fix model years affected. bummer!! repair dates: 7/2000; 8/2002; 9/2004;8/2008 part number: 55037473ab. *tr

If hvac system is left on maximum heat setting for a length of time, the contacts in the fan speed selector switch melt causing failure of some or all of the fan speed modes and require switch replacement. *tr
Same electrical cut off problems. constant burning wire smell. defrost knobs, and high med low knob stays on low or high, or nothing. knobs and motors have been replaced 1 time. different dealers in chicagoland and central il say there is nothing wrong nor any recalls that have to do with this. tired of spending money. top of vehicle is very worn, seams are busting out and top is becoming unsafe. driverside window zipped fell off. jeep is garaged daily and taken care of but is falling apart.
Defroster/heater blower motor and switch quit. replaced at least once before, within a year & a half. first, only one speed on the fan works then nothing.
Car was parked in garage when window glass exploded. glass was inbedded into concrete wall. nothing struck or damaged the window. i was in the process of lowering it, (it is on hydraulic suspension so can not be slammed.*ak
Problems with back and door latches breaking and jamming making it impossible to open the doors. also, flimsy plastic sleeves that connect the a/c/fan/temperature knobs to the control panel break easily making it impossible to use the defroster and panel fans, heater, and a/c.*ak
Anytime i turn the defogger during rain water comes into the vehicle.*ak
