I was in motion and the trans temp light light up and my car began to stale in the middle of the highway. i was traveling alone and 4 hours away . this was very dangerous. i could have been hit by a passing truck. luckily, i was in the left lane and was able to park on the shoulder. i had to search my safety manual to understand what was happening. i had to wait over 30 mins for the light to disengage and drive 55 on the highway. i took it to the shop and there was no signs. i did a google search and realized this is a common issue with the jeep patriots. i have heard horror stories of families with little kids being stranded. please provide some sort of resolution to this eventually costly issue.
When you accelerate the transmission slips. it doesn't do it all the time but at least 50-60% of the time. it started under the warranty and i had a dodge dealership look at it and they said they felt it slip but the road was wet so they couldn't say if it was the tranny or the tires slipping on the wet pavement. it has been slipping for the last year at least. after talking to other people who have these patriots they said the same thing (transmission slipping). it does it during acceleration.
Catastrophic failure of throttle control while driving down the highway. vechile began to sputter and immediately flashed the lightning bolt warning light dropping from 80mph to 10 mph. this was associated with the vechile violently sputtering. vechile will start but when drive is engaged at low rpm nothing happens. with acceleration the car will sputter and not get past 15 miles per hour. during sputtering no power steering is avalible and braking is made difficult with sputtering.
Without alerts, engine stalled while driving at approximately 30 mph on a straightaway, frontage road. steering wheel locked up. i brought vehicle to a stop and turned on hazard signals. removed key entirely and then re-inserted and attempted to start vehicle. car failed to start but made ignition noises for approximately 10 seconds without success at which all alert lights on dashboard lit up only while key was turned but failing to start. i removed key entirely again and waited approximately fifteen seconds before re-inserting and attempting ignition once more. this attempt succeeded and i was able to drive vehicle home.
While driving 80 mph, the transmission warning indicator illuminated, and the vehicle decelerated and lost power. the contact coasted the vehicle over to the road shoulder, waited awhile, restarted the engine, and was able to drive safely.
