Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2008 Jeep Liberty

2008 jeep liberty limited is unlocking on its own which is causing a safety hazard. my son removed the fuse, the door has to be locked manually. the only door that does not lock is the rear tailgate. the vehicle has been parked in the yard, at work, parking lots at the movies, the malls, etc. and when i returned to the vehicle it is unlocked. please advise your remedy to resolve this issue to keep the vehicle safe and locked at all times.

When trying to unlock with remote key, horn blares, wipers go, washer fluid sprays, locks go haywire. happens regularly now, also started while idling for awhile. concern is that it will do this when driving soon. on one occasion i started vehicle but it would not turn off while doing this. happened a least a dozen times in last 6-8 weeks.

I started my car and my headlights flashed on and off about 3 or 4 times. after that happened i have been unable to get my headlights to stay on the just flash and shut off. my fog lights work properly but other headlights just flash and stay off. i have checked fuses/relays and nothing has changed.

Turned vehicle on and wipers were going and switch was turned to off, enterior lights flash on and off, no turn signals, says back gate is open and it's not, doors lock on their own, air bag light says off, burning smell, alarm goes off at random

When starting my car it drives okay, but if let running all the lights come on, and if i drive 5 minutes down the road it goes off and then bings and all comes back on. i am being told it may be my clockspring and most 2008 jeeps are experiencing that after 100,000 miles but it is not a recall issue. i has the check engine on constantly as well as the airbag sensor.

I have several different issues with my 08 jeep liberty. the locks randomly lock and unlock. when i use the lock button on the transmitter, it'll unlock the doors sometimes right after or at some point when parked. the headlights randomly come on and go off when parked. the traction control light comes on intermittently while driving. the traction control system also randomly activates on dry pavement and even throws the front end out of alignment because it will brake one wheel. i've almost had several accidents because of this engaging. also, when the traction/stability control engages there's a noise from the brake system followed by smoke at whatever wheel it's trying to brake. i took it into dealer and they replaced my front brakes and rotors and that hasn't fixed the problem. now they are saying i need a new draft shaft, tie rods and a couple other front end pieces. i don't believe that's where the problems are coming from. it's a scary situation driving this because i don't know if i'm going to make it where i'm going because the steering can lose control because of the traction system. also, it's developed a major leak in the hatch area by the top plastic pieces where it rains and the back floor looks like a swimming pool after it rains. i told the dealer but they have yet to tell me if they found out why it's leaking. i also replaced the blower fan and relay for the ac thinking that it will fix an issue where the air in the vents are barely blowing. no fix. ac is weak. the heat works best when in motion. heat will heat up while driving and i feel like i'm being boiled alive. have to keep on high to get any air out of the vents, however. the transmission is clunky shifting and the fluid has been changed. power steering is difficult to turn.

The security horn will go off for no reason and if you place the key in the ignition that wont stop it. i have read several reviews and other have had this problem. it cost me $380.00 to get a new key fob and the reset the computer system.

My car is possessed the horn goes off, the lock continuously lock and unlock, the wipers won't stop, and the horn beeps! it happens very sparaticly it hasn't happened in months then it statred up again today! there are many people that are having this same problem and i don't understand why there isn't a recall this is reduculous! it won't stop when i drive and it won't stop unless it sits for a while or i disconnect the battery!

Driving on the highway my sky slider folded back off the track making a horrific sound. the power button used to open and close the sky slider does not work. it just makes a grinding noise. we had to manually push the sky slider down. there is also a leaking issue when there is rain. water pours into the vehicle from around the front interior lights on the roof between the driver and passenger seat. there is also water marks from the sky slider leaking. i also have a sensor that stays on constantly. the sensor is for low tire pressure.

The problems started with the new battery going dead for no reason until i installed security cameras on our house and saw the head lights would randomly turn on and off running the battery dead when the car was parked in the driveway. then the windshield wipers would come on and not turn off and sometimes the car wouldn't start and when it did on these events it would shake acting like it was running out of gas

A piece fell from under the seat which makes the seat feel loose. the side control panel for moving the seat back and forth does not give full control of adjusting the seat. the key less remote will not lock and unlock my doors. i have to use manual locks. i took it to be looked at, i was advised ground wires were crossing and blowing out a fuse/relay. the mophar skyliner sunroof is off track. there is a manufacturer defect in the sunroof. chrysler has not issued a recall yet several jeeps are having and have had this issue. it is $300 for a new roof which will break/go off track within 2 years. or $6000 to repair the roof i have which still does not guarantee it will break/go off track again. the roof opens on it's own while i am driving causing exposure to outside weather. i have read from other customers that the roof has flown off while driving which can cause injuries to the passengers in vehicle and/or driving around the vehicle. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the vehicle would not start. also, while the vehicle was in motion, the windshield wipers would activate, the horn would sound, the door locks would lock and unlock on their own, and the vehicle would not shift or exceed 20 mph. an independent mechanic diagnosed that the electrical system and totally integrated power module caused the failures. the mechanic also stated that the failures would occur with no key in the ignition. the dealer (ed voyles chrysler dodge jeep ram, 789 cobb pkwy se, marietta, ga 30060, (844) 715-5921) stated that since there was no recall they could not assist. the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired for the exact same failures back in 2016. the manufacturer stated that there was only a twelve month warranty on the original repairs performed in 2016. the failure mileage was 105,000.

We have had numerous electrical issues with this jeep which all come from thetipm and the ecm. we have replaced the tipm 3times now at over $1000.00 each time!!! this is the number one complaint on this vehicle and i have found thousands of complaints involving this part. something needs to be done about this. i am going to try and start a class action lawsuit against jeep seeings how they refuse to address this issue and make their customers pay thousands of dollars to fix the problem.

We were leaving for a trip and got about 200 feet from our front door and the windshield wipers started going on their own, there was windshield fluid coming out and the horn was honking. the car was running but we were at a stop. we shut the car off and started it back up and it stopped. we started our trip and realized that the electrical outlet no longer would stay on and the doors would not operate with the remote. we stopped at an auto parts store to use their code checker and we got a read error and the car never started again. we were 70 miles from home, cost us $300 to have the car towed. we had the tipm replaced for a mere $840, the doors still do not operate with the remote and it is back in the shop. very frustrated at this point.

Bought the vehicle in va on 2/19/18, driving home to me and after 50 miles in rain the horn started going off every time the wipers moved. pushed the horn button and the washer fluid started squirting out. was able to pull over and had to shut the jeep off then was able to continue. stopped in ct for gas and got back on the interstate and the all lights turned off on the outside but all the dash warning lights turned on, wipers turned on, horn turned on, washer fluid sprayer went continuously and the motor would stop and start on its own, while moving! luckily, made it to the side of the road and turned the ignition off but all electrical components continued to go off randomly then the car would not restart. after turning the key on and off multiple times, moving the shifting lever, pulling fuses from the panel under the hood and putting them back in it started running again. this happened a second time about 100 miles later. was able to get the car back to me but after i shut the jeep off and started it back up the horn and wipers started going off without any switches being touched. looked this issue up online and found that this is a very common problem for jeep/dodge/chrysler vehicles made in and around this time. had a recall been done i would have known this was a possible issue and been able to make a better choice of a car to buy for my daughter. there was a real danger of getting into an accident when all of the lights went out while driving in the rain on a busy interstate and then the motor turning off and on while in traffic.

I was driving on a main highway and all lights started to flash. all needles started to jump around and then everything went black and car died including no flashers. battery was replaced a month before with yearly inspection the month before as well.

My tipm went out on my 2008 liberty, a few weeks ago, windshield wipers turned on by themselves, horn blowing by its self, the jeep doesn't turn off even when the key isn't in the ignition, also the hazard lights turn on by themselves. it gotten to the point that the jeep stopped in the middle of the road while i was driving. this is a very dangerous malfunction that cost a lot to fix and it isn't covered under my extended warranty. chrysler should have recalled 2008 -2012 jeep liberties also.

My roof sky slider has been disconnected from the track that it connects to and will not stay on the roof without manual intervention. i currently have the roof taped down so it does not fly off while driving. with the slider being disconnected, it has caused many leaks to allow water into the inside of the vehicle, damaging the roof, floorboards, and has gotten into some of the electrical areas such as overhead lights above front dash. initial disconnect happened while driving and skyslider was closed. it started to open up in the front right corner from wind pressure and without pushing the button to open it. upon further investigation, it has been determined that the pins that keep the slider in place disconnected and will not connect back together. currently front passenger side, rear driver side, and rear passenger side all have disconnected pins and the slider will not stay on the roof without intervention. i have contacted chrysler and they said that there are no recalls for this issue. this is very much a safety issue as if i were to remove the tape holding the roof down, it would fly off while driving, putting myself and others in danger. mechanical malfunction (and poor manufacturing in my opinion) is the main problem that has caused this issue. i had used the slider less than 10 times before this happened. i contacted insurance to open a claim and they said it would fall under mechanical malfunction and that was not covered in my coverage.

On 11/22/2017 i parked 5 spaces from the front door of meijer on e.michigan ave in jackson, mi. as my esa animal remained in the vehicle i left the car running and heat on low. i was in the store about 3 minutes. by the time i returned to the vehicle i was informed by a bystander my vehicle was on fire and help was on the way. i asked about my dog and was told no one had seen him. i frantically searched the car for (nagini) my dog causing 3rd degree burns on my hands.i was able to retrieve him from the jeep. he was unconscious and unresponsive. i began cpr and he was resuscitated. but sadly nagini died from his injuries 2 days later.

Car won't start. none of the electrical works. dealer tells me it's defective tipm. it's very expensive and dangerous. i have seen multiple people online complaining about the same problem and i don't understand why there has been no recall on this vehicle for this problem. we were stationary when the vehicle power stopped working thank god. but i seen online where some people had the tipm problem while driving which is very dangerous.

Tipm car alarm goes off wipers go front and back horn blaring windshield washer fluid squirts out.

Car horn goes off, locks continously lock and unlock, windshield wipers go off, wiper fluid sprays out, lights blink off and on. only way to stop it is to unhook the battery. to get this to completely stop is to do a hard reset of the fuse box and hope it doesn't happen again. this has happened 6 times starting in 2015. never knew what the problem was until i googled this. i purchased this car brand new, it did happen after the first 2 years while driving but i thought it was just a fluke until it started happening more and more then never stopped on it's own. can't believe there has never been a recall on this problem

Vehicle is experiencing a tipms failure causing the door locks to not function along with sporadic events where all the gauges will go dead, all the warning lights will turn on, radio won't shut off, wipers turn on even when they are set to the off position. all of this occurs while driving the vehicle. turning off the vehicle fixes everything except the door locks for a random period of time.

Electrical issues is occuring with my 2008 jeep liberty. there has been times the car does not start at all. happens anytime of the day. after several tries, it starts. have switched ou the battery and checked the starter/alternator. sometimes the inside lights turn on by themselves. has stalled in the middle of the rode. hard to manevuer.

It starts but doesn't crank, warning lights and codes flash, abs shuts down when stopping at a stop light, lose of power while driving, skipping stationary and in motioneas and bas plus check engine light, i have to shut off all electrical buttons for car to start, over heats only when idle, replaced alternator and battery and still and starts and won't crank,

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep liberty. while driving 20 mph, the horn and windshield wipers continued to operate independently. in addition, the contact stated that the windshield wiper fluid continued to spew out and failed to shut off. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the failure was unable to be diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 98,000.

Amongst other issues: vehicle fails to start occasionally, from both cold and warm states. from completely off, turning the key begins ignition but often does not start the vehicle. engine sputters but does not complete the start. on some occasions, depressing the gas pedal while trying to start the vehicle works, leading me to believe this is one of the widely reported tipm issues plaguing jeeps from 2007-2014. i conclude the fuel pump fails to receive a signal to start from the tipm which causes the ignition failure. in addition, i have had multiple electrical issues including doors locking and unlocking when the opposite corresponding buttons are pressed, windshield wipers turning on when the turn signal is used, warning lights on the dashboard reporting non-issues, failure of power steering, and failure to accelerate when the gas pedal is depressed. please address this issue as soon as possible.

My car has been honking and all the window wipers go off sporadically when driving. this has happened on the highway, in standstill traffic and stopped at a red light. it has happened about 4 times in the last 2 months. it is not only embarrassing but it makes us nervous that the issue could get worse and lead to an accident in the future. we took it to pep boys and were told they can't diagnose it. i then contacted crysler and they just told me to take it to a dealership. i did and the dealership didn't know how to fix it but sent us a quote for $3500 worth of other stuff we don't need fixed! my husband just picked up the car and it honked/window wipered 3 times in a 15 minute ride home. we are expecting our first baby any day now and are very nervous about the safety of the car. no one is willing to help at this point.

Intermittent problem. when starting car, wipers come on and turn signals fail to work. the only way to get wipers to stop is to pull the fuse. turn signals remain inoperable. this problem has been ongoing for over 2 years. have taken vehicle to dealer multiple times. dealer claims they cannot locate a problem; however, there clearly is a problem. do not feel safe driving car with wipers going and no turn signals. we have also had issues with interior lights remaining on. very distracting to driver at night. again, took vehicle to dealer and they cannot find a problem. please help issue occurs while vehicle is stationary and in motion. we drive city and highway streets.

This has happened multiple times, most recently on sept. 5, 2016. the car honks multiple times and all the window wipers start going. this has occured while in stand still traffic on the highway, on city streets and when stopped at a red light.

I've had my jeep for 2.5 years now. when i first got it, everything was fine and it was inspected prior to purchase. for the past year, the airbag light will come on and off on its own. at first it was intermittent, but for the past 6 months, it is constantly on when the vehicle is running. in addition, about 6 months ago, while driving about 25 mph on a dark, winding road, the horn started sounding and the windshield wipers began running at full speed. i put the car in park, turned it off and then on again, and it stopped. this has not happened again since.

While driving on june 30, 2016; the jeep goes into panic mode, lights flashing, windshield wipers working, door locks locking and unlocking, and horn sounding automatically. vehicle is not disarming. this is the second time since feb 2015. problem was told to be car battery. battery replaced. remote battery works fine, this is dangerous and the problem keeps getting reported with no action taken by jeep-chrysler for recall.

It started with my power door locks 2 years ago. they quit working but the power windows worked fine. when you tried to change the fuse it would pop and burn out right away. we assumed it was a short somewhere. then my rear outlet quit working, my windshield wiper fluid stopped working, air bag light goes on and off among other issues. now nothing works. the battery was disconnected so we could try to reset the systems and now the horn sirens continuously, light flash, windshield wipers and fluid are flying, door locks that would not work are moving up and down. it looks like my jeep liberty is possessed! why is this not recalled???? this is a huge safety hazard. i have read that it may start working again but it will malfunction... you just don't know when.

Driving on city street when horn began intermittently beeping and wipers and washers front and back activated. pulled off to side of road, removed key, engine continued to run, along with horn, wipers, washers and locks continued to intermittently activate. lasted 15 minutes and this is the 5th time happening. after certain amount of time car functions normally. one instance occurred at night and lights turned off.

Sky slider roof pours water into dash and steering component. power steering has be disabled on several occasions while driving vehicle. when water pours in it saturates both driver and dashboard area running down steering column into the components. in addition, the lift of the roof causes vehicle to swerve when driving on interstate. noise created by this defect prevents driver from hearing emergency vehicles.

I am the original owner of my 08 liberty. i have been using the dealership for all maintenance. i've had issues with my skyslider roof in the past which, after 5 years of haggling, has been fixed. the problem i am haveing now is with a dying battery. replaced the battery only to find out that the battery was still good. new battery doesn't last overnight. found that there could be 3 issues causing it. radio, fuel pump or tipm. cd player began to constantly eject a cd when no cd was present, so i pulled the radio fuse to stop the drain on the battery. no good! next day, dead battery. listened to any sound that the fuel pump was running while engine was off. did not appear to be running. checked with the jeep forum, wow was i shocked! libertys have nothing but electrical problems with the tipm. chrysler/jeep/fiat have been aware of the issue but have not done a recall, causing all it's customers hundreds of dollars t repair a known issue. class action suit only pushed them to repair tipm's from 2010 and up vehicles leaving everyone else high and dry. i now need to disconnect the battery cable every night so the care starts in the morning. dealer will diagnose the problem, at cost and then fix the problem, at cost, plus labor. all on a vehicle with 83,000 miles. in the last year, i have replaced the pcm, ecm, 4 o2 sensors and catalytic converters. thanks to the governments emission control warranty of 8/80,000, they were covered. the tipm is not! when issue is confirmed by the dealer, i'll be calling detriot!!!!!!!!

First off, this issue is extremely dangerous! it's already been to the dealership and all they want to do is beat around the bush and will not replace the tipm! the dealership claims to not have a device to properly test the tipm, and says its other parts causing the issue. my jeep's lights won't work correctly, my horn constantly blares, i've spent almost a hundred dollars on windshield washer fluid because those constantly spray, and it's beginning to ruin parts inside of my vehicle! today the fuze box was so hot it could have been on fire! why is this not recalled?! so many people are having this issue, and the dealership refuses to replace the part in fear of having the record of it being replaced! we have spoke to cooperate as well and nothing is being done. all it takes is the tipm freaking out causing a fire, or headlights to fail and causing an accident or death. this needs to be taken seriously! i love my jeep to death, but to take my jeep to the dealership to "fix" this issue, spend over 600 dollars to replace a melted cord and a burned out fan motor for ac/heat that could be causing these issues is a freaking joke, when the faulty tipm caused the wire to melt!!

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep liberty. without warning, the temperature gauge, water pump, and various other warning lights randomly flickered and the vehicle stalled. the dealer was notified of the failures and provided no specific diagnosis. the contact had the vehicle inspected by an independent mechanic who replaced the water pump, belt, and thermostat. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

Jeep stationary in driveway overnite started burning all wiring harneses until battery died, interior saturated with burned wire smell, electronic dashboard said no-bus, towed it to jeep-chrysler dealership had to replace all harnesses, fuse relays, modules, harness grounded out to metal bad factory installation, cost 4,400!

While pulling into parking space, horn suddenly blows, wipers and washers come on, lights come oncar bucks. brought to dealer kept for 3 days, no answer. 3 days later car parked horn blows wipers on, doors lock. 2 days after car parked same thing. dealer can find no codes. repeat of same incidents from 8/20/14, same response from dealer.

This vehicle has had the sunroof leak, the heat shield bracket rusted/broke and came loose from the auto and hit the drive shaft, and the air conditioner does not blow out on the correct vents, the air bag light comes on and off,

Electrical problem- driving down the road at 20 mph and horn starts going off, windshield wipers ( front and back ) staring moving, interior lights and exterior lights start flickering. shut car off and it doesn't stop until you pull the negative battery terminal. nothing works during this outburst no keyless entry no power windows. car kinda sits there confulsing.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the button that operates the sky slider roof made an abnormal noise when depressed. the roof began to open and then stopped. the roof failed to open any further or close from that position. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep liberty. while driving 60 mph, the sky slider sunroof slid off the track and independently opened halfway. the sky slider sunroof also failed to function when activated. in addition, the window controls on the front driver side failed to function. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the sky slider sunroof needed to be put back on track. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 90,000.

Inoperative speed control and sudden loss of instrument cluster lights/speedometer at high speed. code read out performed. indicated wheel sensor not communicating with control module. had it replaced twice. problem is not with the sensor. the control module for panel displays shuts down. alll warning lights on dash display come on indicating abs disabled, brake/engine failure. also, speed cruise control lost plus speedometer drops/ freezes at zero

Was informed by my dealership that the crossmember that goes between the frame and holds the engine and transmission in place was rusted out and needed replacing. was also informed that there was a recall for the part on 2007 jeep patriots, but not on 2008 and i'd have to pay for the repair. was told not to drive the vehicle until repaired as it was a serious safety issue!!. what choice did i have? i paid. . . through the nose for something that would have been covered had i bought a 2007 model. i was given this website to make a complaint. additionally, have had issues with the door locks not working (pop up on their own while driving or parked) and automatic windows not always working (had to have have some "cylinder" for the electronics in the driver's side door replaced.) the "check engine" light still shows 'on' because a part that's on "backorder" in the back by where the gas is filled is rusted and needs replacing.

I started my jeep liberty and the windshield wipers started going when the switch was in the off position. i turned on my headlights and they stopped. when i got home i took disconnected the neg wire on the battery to reset the computer in jeep and i hooked it back up after 20 mins and where the mileage is shown it said error.

Driving at 40 when the horn, wipers, and lights start going crazy. had to pull over and restart the car to get it to stop. took it to the dealer, they diagnosed the tpim to be faulty and it would cost 1200 to fix. come to find out the tpim has been recalled by chrysle but not for the 2008 models.

1st incident occurred in march 2013. i was driving to work in a 25mph zone. suddenly, the horn started beeping, windshield wipers (front and rear) were going, washer fluid was pouring out, power door locks where going on and off. had to pull over because i could not see with the fluid spraying out at full speed. i turn the car off and removed key from the ignition and this continued to go on for 5 minutes. brought the car to manfredi dealership. they replaced the tipm module which was very costly. a year and 1/2 later on may 18, 2015, i experienced the same exact problem. there is definitely a major flaw with this part. it's extremely dangerous when this occurs on a highway/turnpike doing the speed limit. this part should be recalled immediately. i should not be responsible to pay for yet another tipm. when i called the dealer they explained it's only a 1 year/12 months guarantee, but this part should last at least 5 years. really???

I have only owned the 08 liberty for 3 months now and i started seeing little spots near the curtain airbags on both driver and passenger side, but when it rains a lot or i get my car washed the spots get bigger and now it's coming down from the map light which to me is very dangerous and distracting while not to mention its leaking on the cars components as well. it also has started making some lights not work. i'm not sure if i'm right but i do see spots behind the windshield so i don't know if it's the windshield but it's coming in much father now. *tr
