Problems with 2007 Jeep Liberty FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2007 Jeep Liberty starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 61 559 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2007 Jeep Liberty

Fuel overflows & doesn't shut off when full! every time we put fuel into the car, it will not allow the pump to shut off when the tank becomes full-no matter how slow one fills the tank, it creates a fuel burp and pours gasoline out & down the vehicle. all of us, including our young driver, need to be extremely cautious when at a gas station. very very unsafe could be very dangerous!

Every time i put fuel into my car the fuel check valve does not shut off creating a fuel burp and pouring gasoline down the fenders of my car. multiple times i have been splashed with gasoline myself very unsafe i have read on multiple forums that many people of the same car have the same exact problem potentially very dangerous

Gasoline overflows from gas tank when adding additional gas at the fuel pump. the filler/breather tube assembly and gas tank were replaced but it didn't fix this problem.

Every time i fill up with gas, the fuel overflows and spills onto the side of the vehicle and ground despite using the auto shutoff on the gas pump.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep liberty. the contact stated that fuel spilled onto the ground when fuel was being placed in the fuel tank. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was unknown.

Gascap flashing and binging. have purchased 2 caps for landers jeep reset the engine code and is still flashing and binging. can see gas vapors.

Almost every time i fill-up, there is a splash-back from the fuel filler opening. this apparently is a very common problem with the liberty model among others. i spoke with the service department at the dealership and was told that i would need to pay for any repairs since there was no recall that would pay for it. i then contacted chrysler who told me that my specific liberty is not part of any recall or tsb so they cannot help. i believe this problem poses a hazard if the gas was to ignite. the most recent occurrence was on 26 february 2016.

The gas tank is improperly designed, while pumping gas it will not properly shut off, will spray gas which is clearly dangerous.

Jeep is refusing to provide or manufacture the trailer hitch required to protect the fuel tank!

The filler neck in failing on my jeep liberty 2007 and it is a safety issue! when i fill up my tank with gas, the automatic shut off occurs and when i remove the nozzle, gas spits back at me. at first it would happen after the tank was full, now it is happening after only filling up 2 gal (when on empty!).

When refueling, gas spills out before the automatic shutoff occurs.

Check engine light remains illuminated, trouble code for evap system leak. i have purchased 9 gas caps, including most from the dealer. smoke test has been performed, cannot locate problem. also, interior lights flicker occasionally while driving.

I purchased a car from u.s. auto sales in columbia, south carolina on june 12th 2015. the evening i took the car home the gas gauge was not at the empty mark and the car shut off and the check engine light came on. i took it back to the dealership and informed them of this and they proceeded to tell me that it is an ongoing chrysler issue and to not let the gas tank to get below a quarter tank. they proceeded to reset the check engine light. 2 weeks later the check engine light came on again. so i took to a local auto store to have a diagnostics run and was informed that a wheel bearing was needed, a catalytic converter and a fuel line because at a certain level the gas will not reach the engine. today in south carolina the temperature is well over 100 degrees and while i was driving my air conditioner stopped working. i have had more issues out of this car within the 30 days i have had it. i did purchase a warranty only to be told that i would have to bear some of the cost to fix a vehicle i just purchased. i am now waiting on a call from their mechanic once he gets the parts in to do the repairs. i believe i was knowingly sold a lemon. i was also told that if i had any issues with the car to bring it in and i will be given a loaner car. well when i did bring it in i was basically told to get in line and wait because they had no loaner vehicles. now i am basically stuck with a vehicle with no air and if the gas get past a half tank the car will shut off and if not repaired soon could potentially blow up with me and my children in it. yes i have called the dealer to request another vehicle and was basically brushed off and told no.

When pumping gas and it shuts off automatically gas spews out like a volcano from the gas tank. it's so bad that the gas attendant has had to come over and put absorbent material on top of the gas spill and we've had to wash down our car so it won't eat the paint. i contacted jeep who told me there is no recall on this particular vehicle, but this is a problem with other jeep models and there is a current recall on those models. it sounds like they need to expand their recall to include the 2007 jeep liberty's that have this problem. thank you. *tr

Ever single time i fill up my gas tank it overflows. this is not anything new. the model of my car one year after has a fuel tank recall so why isn't there one for the 200 kj jeep liberty.

Fuel gushes out of tank everytime it is filled up. happens at all gas stations. needs to be recalled. safety risk and also environmental risk. *tr

Every time i fill up for gas, the automatic shutoff is triggered too late and a significant amount of gas spills out of the car, soaking the side of the car, the pump handle, the ground around it, and anyone standing next to the tank. this creates a significant risk of fire, and is also harmful for the environment. there was no attempt to top off the tank. *tr

While refueling the vehicle, the auto gasoline shutoff failed to work and gas spilled all over the vehicle and ground. this has happened several times and appears to be a defect. our chrysler town & country works fine at the same gas station. *tr

Chrysler installed a tow hitch a part of recall n46, but are advising owners that the tow hitch does not have sufficient strength for any towing. if it is not sturdy enough for towing, how can it be sturdy enough to protect the gas tank? is it now a projectile to puncture the tank? is chrysler installing sub-standard hitches, which future owners may use? chrysler when contacted indicated a warning sticker not to tow is included, however, the sticker reads "chrysler recommends you remove the ball & ball mount whenever your vehicle is not actually in use of towing" also no wiring is installed with hitch which may lead some to tow without proper lights. have they have created another safety hazard while trying to correct the other? *tr

My 2007 jeep liberty was included in a recall concerning the potential for fire in certain rear end collisions. i was notified over a year ago (approximately november 2013) by mail and was informed i would be contacted again when parts were available. approximately may 21, 2014 at 7:32 am, i called the number on the recall to find out why there had been no further contact. i was told i would be contacted nom later than august 2014. on sept 10, 2014, i called the number again on the original recall and was finally connected to a dealer. i made an appointment for 9/12/14 at 2:00pm as i was told the service dept. was wide open. the next day i was called by the dealer to inform me that "they needed to reschedule". so it has been over a year since the notification of a "safety recall" and nothing has been done. *tr

There was a recall on my jeep liberty that the fuel tank can leak causing an explosion in a rear end in a crash. i have called several dealerships to fix the problem however i am on a waiting list of 250 people and they have run out of parts. in the meantime i am riding around with my daughter in the back seat. i am very upset that she may be at risk. the manufacturer must take responsibility and fix the problem sooner. i am not in a position to go and trade my car for another. i would like an offer for a refund if it cannot be fixed in a reasonable amount of time. had i had known at the time this had such a safety risk i would not have purchased it as i always have my 6 year old in the vehicle with me. since this is no fault of my own i am hoping for assistance and further instruction so that my family is safe. *tr

Since receiving the recall notification, i have contacted jeep seaview several times to get the potential problem resolved and i am being told that only limited quantities have been sent to the dealership. i find this unacceptable. if there is a recall that is a planned event, shouldn't there be enough parts to replace defective ones? after all, you know how many vehicles are affected and in what areas of the country you need replacements. what's the delay? *tr

Same gas problem it overflows tank when filling it. abs light, esp bas, and traction control lights came on and brakes go all the way to the floor at times. window regulators keep going out making my vehicle unsafe for me to put my child in. as a single parent i cannot afford to keep paying for costly repairs (mainly the windows) to prevent my child from getting sick in wisconsin winter. i do not have time in my day to sit and wait on repairs to be done. i hate risking frost bite when my window decides to fall and i'm trying to hold it up! it is now snowing and my drivers side window has fallen into my door yet again and it is 2 am and i really hope garbage bags keep it dry! *tr
