Recently reported VISIBILITY problems on 2007 Jeep Liberty

Purchased 07 jeep liberty 4/10 on 6/10 the drivers side window fell into the door due to a broken window lift or regulator. on 3/12 the pass side window fell half way down due to the same problem. its clearly defective parts as so many vehicles have had the same the same problem for several years yet chrysler jeep still will not issue a recall. *tr

3rd incident in 6mo, window falls off track into door and has to be replaced, cost over $500 to fix, not covered by jeep? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep liberty. the contact stated that all four window regulators failed and needed replacement. the believed the failure to be a manufacturing defect because all four regulators failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the current mileage was 103,000 and the failure mileage was unknown. updated 11/29/11 *cn the consumer stated the day she purchased the vehicle, even before she drove off the lot, the window fell down. the dealer gave the consumer a loaner vehicle, while they fixed hers and four days later when she returned to pick up her vehicle, the rear window had fallen down. a few weeks later, the driver's window failed again. the consumer stated only one window works. updated 12/07/11

2007 jeep liberty two-wheeled drive. left rear electric window had to be replaced when window regulator failed on may 20, 2010, with only 29,794 miles on the car. window went down into left rear door, behind driver, and became totally inoperable. dealer-shaver automotive group in thousand oaks, ca, changed regulator and glass and charged us an exorbitant $482.60. did not even honor discount coupon for $50 off of service. point is, that this seems to be a known defect based on the amount of complaints, and chrysler should pay for it. in addition the replacement regulators should be different or be redesigned to be more robust, because it makes no sense to replace with the same regulators that might eventually fail again, as seems to be the case with other complainants who have experienced multiple failures with the same or different windows. *tr

I have now had 3 of my windows fall down into the doors resulting in extremely costly repairs in my 2007 jeep liberty. upon reading many other complaints i see chrysler is quite aware of this problem. it is very scary when driving down the road and it happens. i am very thankful this did not cause a severe mishap, but the potential is there. *tr

For the fourth time the power window regulators on my 2007 jeep liberty have broken one by one, the vehicle's warranty has expired and jeep will not take responsibility for this defect. during warranty period all regulators were replaced one by one and now my passenger front window is broken again and i can hear the other windows that are about ready to give in again. *tr

In may of 2010 the front passenger window regulator failed, window fell to bottom of door. about a month later the front drivers regulator fell, then a week later the rear driver side failed on a 2007 jeep liberty. have called and left messages for the area service rep and have never been called back. *tr

2007 jeep liberty window just falls into the door frame. have had 2 regulators fixed under warranty now a third one just broke. vehicle only has 31,000 miles on it. the dealer advised it would cost $520.00 to repair it. apparently, this has been an ongoing problem and it should be recalled. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the left rear window fell ajar and would not return to the closed position. in addition, the front driver side window fell into the door panel. the dealer advised that the windows would be replaced with a newly designed window issued by the manufacturer as a result of several issues with the older design. the failure mileage was 52,000 and the current mileage was 55,000. updated 10/21/10. *lj the consumer also stated the transmission would hesitate around 35 mph. updated 10/25/10

My window regulator keeps breaking allowing my windows to fall into the door frame. i will be driving down the road and hear a load noise and look and see that one of my windows has fallen again. my young son likes to stick his hand out the window when it falls and it worries me that his hand could hit something outside the vehicle. this has happened to my car 3 times and the dealer told me that it wasn't a safety issue. i think when i am having to look around and see where noises are coming from and having to monitor my son non stop so he doesn't put his hand out the window, i am definitely not focused on my driving. this is a fairly new car, no warranty, but the problem started under warranty, and continues. now they want me to pay for something that was wrong from the manufacturer and something the manufacturer couldn't fix while it was under warranty. *tr

I own a 2007 jeep liberty. in april 2010, i had to have the power window regulator, motor and glass (nothing wrong with the glass) for the driver side front and rear replaced. of course the warranty expired. i was told that the regulator failed but i had to have all replaced. i was told that the design for the 2007 regulator was changed and that is why i had to have all replaced at a cost of $425.00 each. now the passenger side rear window just dropped down into the door without warning (aug 25,2010). i assume that i will have to have the regulator, motor and glass (again nothing wrong with the glass) replaced at another $425.00. i am just waiting for the front passenger side glass to fall into the door and have to replace that also. i have searched the internet and found thousands of complaints regarding this issue. some have had to have the regulators replaced three or four times. yet there is no recall. this is a disgrace. it is totally unfair for the owners of these vehicles to have to continue to shell out this kind of money over and over again when there is clearly a design flaw. how many complaints will it take before they issue a recall? The back drivers side window does not go up or down any longer. thought it was just simply the window being off the track. after bringing it in to a local repair shop was told it is the window regulator that is the problem. after doing some simple online searches this is a major problem it appears with 2006 or later jeep liberty's. there are thousands that have had this issue, and the part is expensive. it also is very unsafe as if you leave a pet in the car, and the window just goes down by itself, that can be a major problem. a even bigger problem can be if you have a child in the car, and the window just goes down. plus obviously if it rains/ snows, or theft with window being opened. chrysler was made aware of this problem numerous times, and they do not issue a recall to fix. now i have to spend 300.00 dollars out of pocket to have fixed, when there is a obvious defect. im actually lucky from what i read as it is only my first time it happened, and in most cases it happens many more times over the lifetime of the vehicle. *tr

I have a 2007 jeep liberty. i have had 2 separate window regulators fail on 2 separate windows. the 2nd time this happened i was traveling on the freeway. the window slid down and seemed to cause issues with the door. the door came pratically open but maintained a catch on the door hook. i had to stop on the side of the freeway to address this problem. luckily there was not a wreck. i was told there have been alot of complaints with this regulator problem but i have to pay to have it fixed. the window nor the door were being used as no one was sitting in that seat. *tr

Window carrier on rear passenger window jeep liberty failed while in a car wash. this resulted in window falling in its track with the consequent impact of baby in car seat exposed to soap, liquid, and associated perils of brushes and poisons. this is second identical failure of power window regulator on my vehicle and is very very common as reported in many internet forums. vehicle is 2007 jeep liberty with only 8500 miles on it and the rear windows are very infrequently used or opened - maybe 20 times in the entire life of the vehicle which i have had since new!! clearly the issue is that the screw drive worm in the power window regulator is made of nylon and not steel. i have now temporarily fixed one side window with a design of my own incorporating a steel spring winding and want chrysler to supply me with four new regulators so that i can modify all windows to an acceptable safe standard. *tr

Power windows failure on jeep liberty 2007. rear windows have failed more than 6-7 times over last 60000kms . and it keeps happening. rear windows are rarely used .the window just slids down and exposes the car to thiefs. once the window fails, a cable in the window assembly jams the door locking system and cannot securely close the doors. *tr

Left rear window failure up or down; driver's side window still works but catches. it appears that someone didn't do their job in quality control in making the equipment that regulates the windows. which makes one wonder if there aren't other parts not up to standard. chrysler needs to replace at their cost. *tr

All four of my windows have failed in my 2007 jeep liberty. the driver's door failed 3/8/10 and was repaired on 3/10/10 for $439.69. since then the other 3 have now failed, right side rear passenger july 18, 2010; left side rear passenger september 21, 2010 and now the front passenger window today, october 13, 2010. i am the only person in the vehicle 95% of the time. rarely do i have passengers getting in and out of my car, so the amount of time these doors are opened and closed on a regular basis is very low. i bought this car brand new in february of 2007 and these should not be failing. *tr

2007 jeep liberty 4x4 purchased june 2009 with 15k miles (program vehicle). october 2009 the drivers side power window failed when down selected. dealership replaced regulator under mfgr warranty. march 2010 daughter and boyfriend were cruising at 65 mph on the interstate when the left rear window failed and partially fell into the door. they managed to pull the window into the closed position; but then had great difficulty getting the left rear door to latch shut. evidently some component of the window regulator system was interferring with the latch mencahism. luckily they were able to get the door closed to finish the drive home (60+ miles). definite safety hazards include startled driver when window falls, doors that can be jammed either in closed or open position, and of course security. mfgr charges customer for known defective design/engineering parts replacement (ie: redesigned regulator & gless). mfrg needs to be held responsible. problem warrents a recall. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep liberty. the vehicle was parked. the rear passenger window glass slid inside the door without assistance. the window was manually moved to an upward position and secured with tape. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. the part was ordered for the repair. the extended warranty covered the regulator. the rear window was not included in the service warranty. the failure mileage was 58,300.

Have had 5 window regulators to break allowing window to fall inside door.the last one was during bad weather nearly causing an accident. *tr

After a couple of months of use, the power windows stop working and the window eventually falls into the door frame. this happens every 6 to 8 months depending on how many times the window is put up or down. this results in a 700 dollar repair bill, and has occurred on all 4 windows several times over the 3 year window where we have owned this vehicle. the window regulators, motors, and window itself have been repaired several times, and they continue to fail to keep the window up. *tr

I have owned this jeep for less than a year and have had 3 window regulators break in that time. the vehicle has had one replaced at the local dealer at the cost of @ $600. it happens when rolling the window up or down the cable breaks away from the plastic piece on the window. *tr

Two previous rear window failures and a third thursday feb. 04 , 2010 . i have not contacted the dealer for this latest failure , i am out of warranty and this is a expensive fix . park my vechicle in front of my home all windows up , my wife comes home and informs me my right rear window is all the down . window would not right it self when engaged the engine and the window up control . *cn

For the 3rd time, the window of my 2007 jeep liberty has stopped working and is dropping into the door! in fact, at this moment, the driver side front and rear windows are dropping into the door and the motor will not work. the first time it happened to my driver side front window, the car was under warranty. now it is not and i am mad!!!!! chrysler jeep needs to do a recall on this problem, fix all windows once and for all so we have peace of mind while we drive! *tr

Power window regulators keep breaking---very costly repair once warranty expires! windows fall down and cannot be raised without service. this is the fourth incident. many owners are in need of a permanent fix. there should be a recall. *tr

We have a 2007 jeep liberty and this is the 3rd time in 2 years that we will have to have a window regulator replaced. my wife and i came back to the car and found the window down about 3" when we tried to roll it back up nothing happened. we attempted to take it in around the end of october because it was making a grinding noise, but the dealership said they did not have time to fix it that day. now our warranty is expired and we will have to pay for this repair. i feel jeep needs to step up to the plate and recall these regulators. *tr

2007 jeep liberty driver's window binds and won't close. dealer said window needs a new regulator and he had to replace a few a month on this model car. *tr

I have had two of the four window regulators fail on our jeep liberty, what was purchased new, at the end of 2007. this failure causes the window to fall down, into the door and has been identified as a design flaw, enough that jeep has completely re-designed the regulator and window. i had the first fail at 36,600 miles, last june (just passed warranty) and the second failed in january of this year. loosing a window on the freeway is a severe safety issue- and not to mention how your families ears feel afterwards. there are numerous issues with the design of this window regulator, found on carcomplaints.com, and hope that it can afford your offices attention. *tr

My rear passenger side window fell down a few months ago, i had that replaced with the new and improved regulator and window. then yesterday the front passenger side fell down, the window has not been in use because of the weather for some time. i called the dealer where i purchased the car and they gave me a quote of over $500. in this economy i do not have the extra money to have this repaired so right now it is jimmied up and my husband put a piece of plastic in there so it does not fall down until we have the extra money to get it repaired. i have called several jeep dealerships and they have all told me the same thing, that this is an ongoing problem with these vehicles so if the jeep dealer knows this and chrysler knows this why is there not and effective recall on this. one dealer told me that there use to be a recall on this but since have dismissed it. i believe that the chrysler foundation needs to pay for this and all repairs for the faulty window regulator and the new glass they need to install. we already pay for the vehicle itself why should we the consumers pay for faulty material when this is ongoing? *tr

This issue is regarding my jeep liberty '07 window regulator. driving from work and i decided to open my rear passenger window and it made a cracking noise. i immediately stopped the button from opening the window further. i tried to close it again but it is just stuck there. this is the 3rd time that i had this problem and always that same window. the prior event was when it just stopped moving and a few seconds after that the glass window just dropped inside the door. *tr

My drivers side window began to stick and move up and down very slowly all of a sudden one day. i drove my jeep to the store, at which time my window was correctly in place. when i came out approximately 15 minutes later my window had sunk all the way into the door. i was told by my mechanic that the error was with the window regulator. this is an extremely common problem with jeep liberty owners and it is not only very expensive to fix, but it is a big safety hazard when windows do not work properly. especially when it is december and very cold. *tr

Tl*the contact owns 2007 jeep liberty 4x4. while the vehicle was stationary, the contact stated the rear passenger side automatic window released in a downward motion without assistance. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired at the dealer. the identical failure occurred previously with the front driver side automatic window in which the window regulator and glass were replaced. the failure mileage was 45,000.

Driver's window began to slide almost immediately after purchase in dec. 2008. back passenger window stuck about 2 inches down and then suddenly came crashing down while i was on the interstate. it nearly scared me to death! the back window is in the door. we try to keep the window covered and are not currently driving the vehicle because we can't afford the repair right now. occasionally the wind pulls the protective covering off, and we have rain stains on the seats as a result. my understanding is they no longer make this regulator because it is faulty, so the glass have to be replaced also with the new regulator at a cost of about $500 per window. this is crazy for the consumer to have to pay for a faulty product. i have contacted jeep, but they do not seem concerned. i am shocked and saddened to find so many complaints about the same thing and for chrysler/jeep not be held accountable. *tr

2007 jeep liberty - the manufacturer redesigned the window regulator, knowing full well it was faulty. i am now being told by liberty owners & local auto mechanics that this is a common defect with this jeep. when i went to reorder the rotary i was told that i had no other option but to order the newly redesigned version and that version required a window replacement & a label that indicated the window & regulator had been replaced. the total cost is $423.00. i am a single girl on a tight budget and i bought this jeep 3 months ago, not realizing that all of my regulators would break. to date, my driver regulator and my left passenger side regulator have broke. i'm looking at $846.00 to fix this and i believe this manufacturer should have recalled this part. i am going to file a law suit as well. i do not have the money to replace these windows; so i've been duct taping them shut. the duct tape only lasts for a week, so in between, i find myself trying to hold the window up while i'm driving, so it doesn't fall and smash inside the panel, until i can get to my home and put new tape on it. this is absolutely ridiculous that the manufacturer knows the glass will shatter, that's why you have to replace the window and yet no recall? please government officials get involved with this one and hold this manufacture responsible!!! *tr

Replaced the rear power window regulator and glass for the second time this year. they assured me it would not happen again after the first repair since they used am improved part. dealer states this time jeep knows of this defect but "can't find a supplier with decent parts" so people are forced to make the same repair over and over. when this happens, i am unable to close the window, causing a safety issue when driving and parking the vehicle in lots. *tr

Window regulator is faulty in 2007 jeep liberty. according to the jeep dealer, the regulator has been redesigned, but the owner is responsible for all replacement costs. the window can be slid up and down by anyone inside or outside of vehicle including children (my 3 year-old did it from her car seat). there is a theft consequence and also a consequence with children next to these windows that can and have failed. *tr

My car was parked overnight and the next morning, my driver side front window was all the way down even though i had left it up. 2 days later, after i finished work, i went to my car in the parking lot and my rear driver side window was all the way down and wouldn't roll back up( again, i had left it in the up position) these are power windows. apparently the window regulators malfunctioned and broke even though they were under no stress.( i almost never use my rear driver side window). after researching online, this problem is apparently prevalent for 2007 jeep liberty's. the problem with this malfunction is that it left the valuables in my car unsecured and i was lucky that they were still there when i got to my car. the more serious problem is that if the windows drop while driving on the freeway, it could startle a driver and make them think they were hit by another vehicle or object causing loss of control of the vehicle. please look into this matter as it truly is rampant for most jeep liberty 2007 owners. thank you. *tr

I purchased a 2007 jeep liberty in 2008. in october 2009, the window regulator (the control mechanism that allows my window to go up or down) on my rear driver side window broke. i had it diagnosed by the car dealer i purchased the vehicle from who wired the base of the window to the door frame temporarily to protect the interior from the elements. my warranty expired because i was over on the mileage. i took it to charlies in augusta, maine who stated it is not on recall, therefore i would be required to have them diagnose the problem for a fee before they would fix it. then the repair would cost approximately $300. then in december, 2009 the front driver side window regulator broke. again, the car dealer i purchased the vehicle from wired the base of the window to the door frame, as it was snowing outside, to protect the interior from the elements. i spoke with an employee at newcastle chrysler who stated they have redesigned the regulator and window because of the problem and not only the regulator, but the glass would need to be replaced as well at a cost of $357. i am told i cannot inspect my vehicle, because of the front window not operating properly, that it is a safety issue. i consider the rear window to be a safety issue as well. if a child were in a child seat in the back seat and the window does not work properly, it could become hazardous. therefore, i am requesting this be investigated as soon as possible and am looking forward to receiving a reply. you can contact me or by mail at susan bourget. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep liberty. the contact was driving approximately 20 mph. there was a noise inside of the vehicle. the rear passenger window slid down inside the door without assistance. the driver was able to continue in operation. the window was manually moved in an upward position and secured with tape. the failure occurred on two separate occasions. the authorized dealer will be notified of the malfunction. the vehicle has not been repaired at this time. the failure mileage was 25,000. the current mileage was 33,000.

In 2007 jeep liberty, the power window regulator breaks causing the window to drop open. this has happened 4 times on my vehicle within the last year. this could be hazardous if it happened during a storm or in other situations where safety demands the window remain closed. the last time it happened, we were just driving down the highway. no one was touching the window controls and suddenly the window began to drop slowly. the time before, the window dropped suddenly and quickly. again, no one was operating the controls at that time. *tr

07 jeep liberty rear driver's side power window regulator failed. window has fallen into the door. plastic components have a high rate of failure. research on the internet reveals that this failure happens often on this vehicle. loss of the window can result in personal danger in case of accident or inclement weather. personal safety is also compromised when you are not able to keep the windows up. loss of contents of the vehicle is possible if this were to happen while the liberty is left unattended. my "fix" was to wire the window shut. aftermarket parts are availble on ebay and other internet stores. jeep's fix is to replace the window and the regulator with parts from the previous model liberty's parts bin(a better made design). jeep needs to recall this and make the repair at their expense. *cn

I was looking at other complaints and noticed a similar problem with the electric windows. we repaired one window and are saving up to repair the next. it is absurd how much this costs to repair. *tr

On separate occasions and within 4 months of one another both rear window assemblies failed causing the windows to slide down into the door. this is during the operation of the window. it appears to be a defective part/design. jeep service dept is now replacing the whole assembly including window at cost to the customer.*tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep liberty. in october of 2009 the left rear passenger window regulator failed. she took the vehicle to the dealer, and the technician adjusted the base to the door frame with a wire as a temporary repair. on december of 2009 the driver-side door window regulator also failed. the vehicle was out of warrant, so the estimated cost for the repair was $300.00. there was a new re-designed regulator that cost $357.00. the manufacturer took a report 19184879. the failure mileage was 80,000. the current mileage was 90,000.

Third failure - 2007 jeep liberty - window regulator fails often. widow regulator failure creates a dangerous situation if door is jammed thus secondary method of egress is unavailable. also expensive fix: repair is over $600 per window. repaired windows (up until mid-2009) repaired with same defective regulator and would fail again. new regulator design came out mid-2009. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep liberty. the contact returned to her parked vehicle and noticed the drivers side window was inside the door panel. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the contact was informed that the motor for the window needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the failure had since recurred on two occasions, once on each rear window. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 35,000.

Drivers side front window regulator broke on our 2007 jeep liberty and now the window will not stay up. this is a safety issue because the open window allows for inclement weather to enter the vehicle thus distracting the driver from the focus of driving. this also presents vandalism and theft issues. the dealership wants $300+ to replace not just the part but the entire window assembly including glass, to say nothing of the labor costs. i have read in several places of hundreds of other people with the same problems and have come to the conclusion that there needs to be a recall of this component. *tr

My drivers side front window fell into door and i was told by dealership it would cost me $375 for the regulator and $250 in labor. the dealership has not even seen the window but knew what it was because of how often they see this in jeep liberty. why isn't this a recall? will i have to worry about the remainder of my windows as well? *tr

While driving the left rear window fell down into the door. i took it to a mechanic and i was told that the regulator wheel was broke. i have no idea how it got broken. i have not taken it back to the dealer because my warranty has expired and the cost would be high for the parts and labor. *tr

For the 3rd time, the window of my 2007 jeep liberty has stopped working and is dropping into the door! in fact, at this moment, both of the back windows dropping into the door and the motor will not work. the first time it happened to my driver side front window, the car was under warranty. now it is not and i am mad!!!!! when i called dealer to find out how much the motor would be they told me that design had changed and i would have to buy the windows too. this is crazy i have now learned on the internet and by talking to people that this is a common problem with jeep/chrysler with different years involved too. this is crazy what is it going to happen before they will issue recall some child get hurt by glass breaking or cause and accident. also, since window is messed up the lock system on driver side back door is also messing up. unknown if related. chrysler jeep needs to do a recall on this problem, fix all windows once and for all so we have peace of mind while we drive! *tr
