I got out of my car after a 20 minute drive from work and i could smell rubber burning. i stepped to the back of my jeep and could tell the smell was coming from the back driver side tire so i reached down and touched the wheel and it was so hot it burned by hand. it acted like the brake had locked while i was driving and working against my speed. this is an ongoing problem. sometimes it acts completely fine and other times it will lock up again and all i can smell is burning rubbing and feel heat coming off the wheel without even touching it. *tr

1. poor material selection for tire pressure sensor valve stem. stems are made of aluminum and with road salt they corrode and crack when pressure gauges or air hoses are connected. 2. spare tire sensor always reports low pressure no matter pressure or which tire is mounted on spare tire holder. *tr

Purchased new 2005 jeep liberty renegade in june 2005 almost immediately the tire pressure sensor light flashed for weeks then went on solid. asked dealer to check, they added air and it went out. almost immediately after i left the dealer the same situation occurred. i added air it went out and then it repeated. eventually the light is always illuminated. five years later i just drive with the sensor light illuminated since noone (dealer/private garage/tire store) and nothing (add air/new tires/new sensors ($120 each) fixed the problem. *tr

I purchased a 2005 jeep liberty limited on 05/23/2006. prior to taking delivery of the vehicle, i took it for a test drive and i noticed that the vehicle was pulling to the right and was told by the salesperson that it probably just needed an alignment. i received an "we owe you" for the alignment. the vehicle was taken back to the dealership for the alignment. the mechanic stated on the service slip that after he performed the alignment the liberty still pulled to the right and he stated that it was due to the crowning of the roadway. the road had nothing to do with it. it has gotten worse and i even drove it on a flat surfaced parking lot, first doing about 25 mph and it pulled right and then letting liberty coast and it still pulled right. i have owned and have driven several vehicles and i have never had this problem. received a call from a customer service rep regarding the visit to the service dept. for the alignment and they were told that the vehicle was still pulling to the right and that i was not happy with my experience purchasing this jeep, they informed me that they would notified the service manager. i have not been contacted by the service manger. after doing some research on the internet, i see that jeep has had some problems with the pulling right issue, and has had some recalls. it still pulls to the right and seems to be worse. number of failures would be everytime i drive the thing. this is a major safety issue that jeep chrysler needs to get fixed. the other concern i have is with the goodyear wrangler hp tires. these are not safe for this vehicle. i was at a stop light waiting to make a left turn, completely stopped waiting for the light to turn green. it had just started to sprinkle. when the light turned green, i started to go forward and was just making my turn when the vehicle fishtailed and i spun completely around and was facing oncoming traffic. how could a vehicle spin out upon starting from a complete stop at a stop light??? *nm

Traveling interstate 94, approximately 70 mph, unavoidable tire debris on roadway. my vehicle front passenger wheel struck rubber truck tire casing which just blew off truck. the valve stem of my tire broke off instantly deflating the tire. the valve stem is part of the siemens bdo tire pressure monitor system installed on daimler chrysler vehicles and my jeep liberty. the stem broke at the stem cap thread. my dealership has reported many failures to daimler chrysler there is no recall or replacement which fixes the fault. the assembly material is some aluminum alloy and will readily snap off if pressure is applied laterally at the tip of the valve stem even the brushes at the car wash break these valve stems.

Purchased 2005 jeep liberty 9/29/05. the tire pressure sensor light was on immediately. took vehicle back to dealership and complained that the vehicle pulls badly to the right, especially at 65+ mph. the dealership fixed the tire pressure sensor, but told me the pulling to the right must be due to road conditions. after reading other customer complaints, i doubt it. when driving at highway speeds it is difficult to maintain in lane. if large tractor-trailer trucks pass this will create even more intense struggle to keep vehicle on the road. safety concerns regarding winter snow conditions are a deciding factor on keeping the vehicle. *nm
