Recently reported WHEELS problems on 2005 Jeep Liberty

When i turn sharply both left and right the car stops, the wheels are hitting some bar under the vehicle.

Constant grinding, squeaking with movement of steering wheel, was told it was ball joint and arm, also there was a recall about this...happens when driving.....was there a recall regarding this?

My son noticed the rear drivers tire not feeling good as he traveled on i-80 outside of lincoln, ne. he started loosing control and eventually lost control, the car rolled several times and came to rest upside down. he was still buckled in the seat. after looking over the car, the rear tires were broken off the car. the lug nuts still attached to the tire. he thinks the drivers rear tire came off first and that was what started the car out of control. the other rear tire was also off after he came to rest so he is not sure when that came off during the crash. the car is a total loss. geico is investigating the car to see if they can determine what took place. this just happened on 12/16/2016.

I got out of my car after a 20 minute drive from work and i could smell rubber burning. i stepped to the back of my jeep and could tell the smell was coming from the back driver side tire so i reached down and touched the wheel and it was so hot it burned by hand. it acted like the brake had locked while i was driving and working against my speed. this is an ongoing problem. sometimes it acts completely fine and other times it will lock up again and all i can smell is burning rubbing and feel heat coming off the wheel without even touching it. *tr

This is the second incident on the same vehicle with the right front wheel falling off due to the five studs being sheared off. first incident was @ 104104mi and second at 152212mi. all mileage is highway mileage on the 4x4. no of-road rough treatment. *tr

When driving over metal plates or small patches of ice front wheels lock and make steering impossible if brakes are being applied. this is happening at very low speed. i bought this jeep used. *tr

2005 jeep liberty sport with 74,000 miles. front wheel bearings need replacement because of corrosion. if not replaced the wheels may fall off causing a serious accident that may lead to death. this issue was found inadvertently while getting an oil change. the vehicle does not drive any differently or make any particular noises that might alert the driver that there is a major problem. this particular vehicle was purchased brand new from the dealership in 2005 and has never been used as an off-road vehicle. this particular vehicle has been very well taken care of and should not be experiencing this problem. unfortunately, daimler chrysler is not addressing this problem with a recall. having the front wheel bearings replaced will cost upwards of $1000.00. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the rear passenger side wheel does not disengage from the parked position; therefore, it caused the brake pad and rotor to overheat. the dealer replaced the brake pad and rotor several times; however, they were unable to diagnose the exact cause of the failure. each time the failure recurs, the rotor and brake pad are replaced. the manufacturer stated that the vehicle is out of warranty and informed the contact that if he is unhappy with the dealer, he should go to another dealer. the fuel system was unknown. the current mileage was 46,000 and failure mileage was 45,000.

I purchased this liberty renegade in october of 2006 and have been experiencing problems with it since. the main symptom is that when it is (or has been) raining, there is a very loud humming noise that comes from the area of the wheels, especially when turning one direction or another. i had the recall work done on the lower ball joint and on the material of the brakes (twice) and the same symptom is happening. the reason i bought this vehicle was because i have to drive over snow covered mountains to get to air national guard duty, and i certainly do not feel very safe. i am going to have to take the car back for a 4th time and there are only 18.000 miles on it. *jb
