On sep 2, 2019 while traveling straight at around 60mph the steering wheel turned slightly to the left and locked in that position for a few seconds, almost causing a deadly crash on the freeway as the vehicle almost hit the cement divider. i applied force to turn the wheel in the other direction, to no avail for a few seconds, but then when the wheel "unlocked" it clicked and the car swerved to the right, causing us to almost spin around. i held the wheel as straight as i could, but we did get into a collision when the car was already straightening back. i requested maintenance records from avis, the rental company, but they denied releasing them. can someone please compel them to release maintenance records for this vehicle? we almost died that day and they won't take any responsibility for the faulty steering mechanism. avis is actually attempting to collect money from me for the damages but won't release the records. thank you!
