The seat head rest of my 2014 jeep burst open by itself, this could have caused great harm to my head.
Was driving about 3 mph and head rest on drivers side exploded, the head rest popped out and sounded like a gun going off in my vehicle. it exploded forward at a high rate of speed and was terrifying
I was sitting in my front passenger seat, car off, in park, and the headrest deployed. there was no collision or movement or any kind.
While driving straight on the highway, the driver's seat headrest active headrest deployed. there was no collision, no obvious reason for the headrest to deploy. it appears that a plastic piece has broken. i can move the headrest back into place, but it does not lock back in place.
I had just parked my jeep and reached in the back seat to grab something when my headrest popped open and smacked me in the side of my head. didnt feel great and i cant get it close back up. heard other people have had this problem, hopefully they recall this soon. love my jeep.
Passenger side headrest burst open. no accident, no collision. car was parked.
The headrest on my frontpassanger seat deployed while the car was parked. my husband and i were getting out to go into a restaraunt and it popped forward/open
Headrest on driver seat popped out while in the garage. 2014 jeep grand cherokee overland 2wd 5.7l
Unlocked jeep to discover the passenger headrest had deployed. looked closer at the mechanism to discover the plastic structure, retaining the "floating"pin that holds the headrest in place, was completely cracked allowing the headrest to move to its most forward "deployed"position. the jeep was stationary on a city street parked overnight, no collision occurred, and there were no occupants at the time of malfunction.
I was driving on a city street on christmas eve at 35 mph and the driver side headrest deployed and struck me in the back of the head. we were not involved in an accident, but i was in significant pain for a couple days.
Stopped at a light with my daughter. (vehicle was stationary) she went to lift the headrest and it deployed. posted to forum here and saw many others having same exact issue. https://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f309/headrest-deployed-4265585/index3.html
Passenger head rest popped up while driving.
While car was traveling at approx 45mph on interstate, without any interruption to an otherwise smooth ride, both headrests deployed the crash-release mechanism and sprung out to drill my wife (driver) and i in the back of the head with heavy force. my first thought was that we had been rear ended. we were lucky to pull over, and gather ourselves before proceeding (with a headache).
Drivers side headrest deployed without a collision. vehicle was stationary and off.
Inadvertent deployment of "active headrest" on driver's seat with no accident. headrest spontaneously burst open. vehicle was stationary and gear shifter was in park in my driveway with the engine running.
While i was driving my 2014 jeep grand cherokee the head rest burst open while driving. i was doing 55 mph on the highway in north carolina when this happened and there was no accident. the head rest jarred my surgically repaired neck and i was stiff the next day but did not seek medical attention. i have not taken to dealership for repair yet as i am traveling .
Active headrest on drive side seat has deployed for no apparent reason. luckily i was not in the seat when the headrest deployed. when going to reset it, plastic tabs restraining it snapped and headrest is unable to be reset.
The driver's seat active head rest deployed for no reason. the vehicle was parked and there was not impact of any kind. fortunately i way not driving the vehicle at the time or the impact of the deployment could have resulted in neck injury, or the shock of the deployment could have been distracting enough to result in an unsafe movement.
Driver's side head rest deployed without any impact. i came to my car in the morning to find the head rest had deployed over night in my garage.
While driving down the highway at approximately 55mph, my passenger seat headrest deployed. no one was sitting in the seat and there was no collision or impact at the time of deployment. see attached photos. this issue has been discussed many times on the jeepcares forum, yet no voluntary recall has been issued by chrysler. i'm filing this formal complaint and will be contacting chrysler to cover replacement cost.
Sitting in my driveway with car in park & felt something hit the back of my head & heard a pop sound, my head jerked forward. i then looked at the headrest & saw that it had come apart
I am filing a complaint about the 2014 jeep grand cherokee headrest. on saturday, 09/21/2019, my driver's side headrest deployed while my car was in park. my 17 year old son was in the driver's seat when this happened. the headrest hit him in the back of the head, throwing him forward, almost face planting him into the steering wheel. needless to say, we did not drive my jeep the rest of the weekend. i googled this issue and i am shocked at all of the online complaints about this type of headrest and yet, it fails to be a recall. if my son would have been driving, he could have wrecked, potentially killing himself, my daughter and me. all of the people posting their complaints online said jeep is not covering this issue, and customers are having to pay anywhere from $600-$1025 for the repair. this is a fact. i took my jeep to the dealership and they were going to charge me $1,017 to fix. this is not an appropriate way to treat loyal jeep customers. this is the sixth jeep i have owned. i filed a complaint with the fca and followed-up with a phone call several days later. fortunately, the fca agreed to replace both of my headrest at no cost to me. the dealership has ordered the parts and i plan to get the new ones installed next week. i am filing this complaint because i feel this should be a recall and the manufacturers of the headrest need to make this right. the result could have been worse. i truly do not want this to happen to anyone else.
The headrest on my 2014 jeep grand cherokee deployed. the vehicle was sitting in my garage. i tried to reset it but noticed the plastic brackets were broken and it cannot be repaired but needs to be replaced. i am very thankful that my child or myself was not driving at the time, not only does this have the potential to cause serious head or neck injury but also safety issue should this deploy while operating the vehicle.
Drivers headrest deployed for no reason. car was parked. plastic clip broken and cannot reset. required to buy new headrest unit. seen numerous complaints already filed.
While driving, the drivers side head rest was activated causing the active head restrain to be deployed.
Previously the clips on my passenger seat headrest came apart. i did file a report on that and jeep did pay to fix it. now the clips on the same seat backrest have popped apart. these clips are obviously faulty as many other jeep grand cherokee owners have had the same problem. i believe the ntsb needs to look into this and issue a recall. i'm sure there are many jeep gc owners who have paid the over $700 bill to fix this and it is through no fault of their own but a defect that the manufacturer should be fixing. i rarely have passengers in my car and it is very well cared for. there has been no undue stress put on this seat whatsoever to cause this.
Pulled into parking space. switched off engine and before removing seat belts to exit the jeep grand cherokee, the passenger head rest just exploded striking my wife on the back of the head. if this incident occurred while driving in traffic it would have caused me to take my eyes off the road, abruptly stopping to see what the noise was and check on her. if the driver's head rest did the same , it would surely have caused an accident. my jeep grand cherokee has not been involved in an accident therefore i believe this incident to be the result of faulty design dangerous to the occupants.
The active headrest in my 2014 jeep grand cherokee laredo deployed while driving on the highway without warning. the vehicle has never been in an accident and the headrest has no prior damage before this incident.
While vehicle was stationary, parked in driveway, passenger seat active headrest failed into an open position. as stated by others, and verified by dealer, plastic retaining clips failed and caused an unnecessary release. this is a severe safety issue that needs to be addressed. the drivers side head rest could fail at any moment, potentially causing an accident that results in serious injury or death.
The active headrest deployed while pulling out of a parking garage for no reason.
Active head rest on passengers side deployed without being in an accident. had my vehicle in for service, brakes and oil, at the dealership.
While sitting at a stop light, i hear a pop noise from the passenger seat, i hear my mother in law yell ooow, the headrest popped out and hit her in the back of the head.
I would like to address this issue to jeep about my passenger headrest deploying without any cause while my car was in park for more than 6 hours... after reading more than several threads and concerns from other jeep owners and it also happening to them and the outrageous cost to repair a single headrest including labor is beyond me. i feel cheated out. this repair is almost a 800.00 repair ... why has jeep not made this very repetitive issue a recall? i feel jeep should be responsible for the diag and also the repair for my jeep. i know i am not the only one that has had this issue and has felt the same. i am asking for someone to handle this in a fair manner. being a single parent and not being able to fork money like i am a bank has made this tremendously frustrating.
Vehicle was in motion when the driver seat headrest deployed - no accident nothing.
I was driving around 65 mph on a highway when the active headrest popped out forcefully, hitting me in the back of the head. it was enough to cause me to veer into a neighboring lane, but fortunately i regained control of the vehicle. there are so many reports of this happening to other drivers, and it is only a matter of time until it causes an accident. to be clear, i did not hit a pothole or anything on the road'the headrest just popped out for no apparent reason. i inspected the headrest later and found that the pin that holds the headrest in place had snapped in half. this happened last year on a 2014 model jeep grand cherokee.
Active headrest on the driver's site deployed while sitting at a red light. vehicle was stationary, in drive mode and running. upon inspection, it looks like the plastic part that holds the headrest in place broke loose on both sites of the restraint system.
Seat headrest popped out while i was driving 6/24/19; unable to push back in place
While in park, the driver side active headrest deployed in my 2014 jeep grand cherokee. my vehicle was not in a collision, nor has it been in the past. the vehicle computer shows no evidence of a collision or cause for deployment of the active headrest. the vehicle was at approximately 77,000 miles when this occurred. i was unable to reset the active headrest, and the local dealership was unable to do so as well, indicating it needed replaced. upon investigation online, and inspection of the headrest, i found that there were broken plastic pieces in the back part of the headrest that appeared to be the cause of the failed active headrest. it appears evident to me that a defective part of plastic broke and made the headrest deploy.
The active headrest restraints on my passenger seat has deployed. there appears to be 2 broken plastic pieces that held a small metal rod that appears to have clipped to a release - which is still in place - as the rod was still held by it. upon further review on the internet, this seems to be a common occurrence with this model of jeep/dodge headrests.
Head rest deployed. the car was not hit or in an accident. no one was in car. it was noticed after i got in the car.
While driving my 2014 jeep grand cherokee, my drivers side head rest "exploded" and hit me in the back of the head. the force pushed me forward and i immediately thought i was rear-ended. i ended up with a severe headache and sore neck. i can see this defect easily causing an accident. i was driving straight ahead, but could have easily lost control if i was going around a curve or expressway ramp. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 30 mph, the passenger seat head rest released forward. the vehicle was taken to larry h. miller chrysler jeep dodge ram riverdale (located at 1481 w riverdale rd, riverdale, ut 84405, (801) 528-7478) where it was diagnosed that the head rest and rear of the passenger seat needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 92,000.
Vehicle was stationary, in park. driver's side headrest spontaneously deployed and broke the bracket.
Driver side air conditioner blows hot air even when temp is set as low as 63 degrees while the passenger side works normally. service rep at dealership informed me that this is a common problem with jeep vehicles. was told repairs could be over $1000. if jeep knows that this is a reoccurring problem, why should i have to pay for their error?
While driving normally the passenger side active headrest deployed. after searching, it appears this is a common issue, but there has been no recall. this is a safety issue that could cause an accident if it happens on the driver side. the system did not activate, but the part of the headrest that holds the locking pin broke, which allowed the latch to release without the system activating.
I was driving normal city street speed (approx. 40-45mph) while running some errands on march 23, 2019 when all of sudden my front passenger seat headrest sprang open with a loud noise. there was no accident or collision to prompt the release of the headrest. when returning home, my husband and i tried to put the headrest back into place when we noticed a plastic bracket that would hold the pin in place, and therefore lock the headrest back into position, was broken. i called my local jeep dealership that following monday to inquire about repairing the headrest. because my car is outside of its warranty, the parts and labor would cost me $1000. the services speacialist at the dealership then suggested to me that i should get in a little "fender bender" and have the headrest repaired under my insurance coverage (also known as insurance fraud). i find it appaling that a flaw in their design, which could potentially cause an accident (imagine if my driver's side headrest all of a sudden deploys while i'm driving??), is not being managed by the car maker, and instead, accepts the money for the repairs any way they can get it. i am absolutely disgusted by this incident, but grateful that no one was sitting in the passenger seat when the headrest snapped.
On february 11, 2019, the safety mechanism in the driver's side headrest deployed while the vehicle was in park. this is a safety concern because there was no collision and headrest can affect a driver's ability to remain focused while driving. mileage at time headrest "deployed" was 78,000. there is also a suspension issue searchable online. the error message reads: "service adaptive damping suspension system." owner has a 2014 jeep grand cherokee srt. mileage was 78,000 at time error message appeared. please contact owner for further information.
The headrest of the drivers seat deployed while i was driving. i was driving on a highway with cruise control and and the vehicle was at a steady speed with no sudden jolts or stops. i heard a very loud pop and the headrest hit me in the back of the head. the incident startled me and caused me to hit my breaks.
Seats - drivers seat - seat controls brok away from the seat. seat control trim replaced, seat frame replaced, problem has returned again. radio - screen goes black randomly. radio replaced 2 times and module once these are over various dates an currently an issue again. will select current date
I was driving down the highway at 50mph and the driver side headrest deployed striking me in the head. this was not caused by a collusion just driving down the highway. somehow i was able to pull over to the side without causing a crash. under further inspection it was noticed the plastic clips holding the pin were broken. i researched this and have noticed this is a common problem that fiat needs to recall this year model and headrest before serious injury or death is caused. also the vehicle is just out of warranty so we have to pay for the cost of a faulty system.
