Interior the leather dash cover is coming unglued and wrinkling up.
The passenger headrest erupted as we were driving down the road striking me on the head. didn't feel good at all. i was kinda dazed afterwards. googled it and apparently i'm not the only one. this is going to eventually cause an accident somewhere.
The driver's seat headrest has sprung apart and can't be reset. the soft side pressing against the back of the driver's head prevents proper head position for driving. if this had occurred during driving it could have injured the driver and/or caused an accident. the condition occurred while the vehicle was parked overnight when the vehicle was not occupied. when attempting to drive in the morning it was discovered.
At approximately 60,000 miles my active headrest deployed on my passenger seat while vehicle was parked in a parking lot. there was no accident or anything that caused this. after reading other complaints, this appears to be a common defect/failure of the plastic clip that holds it together. this needs to be recalled. the price to repair it is ridiculous and it's obviously defective and needs to be addressed by the nhtsa asap. please issue a recall asap. so many others have experienced the same thing and this is going to cause an injury and/or accident.
The headrest on the front passenger seat "deployed" while i was driving. the system is designed to deploy during a rear impact collision. there was not a collision or any other impact. i was in the car alone coming to a routine stop. suddenly heard this loud noise and the headrest had deployed. i didn't know i had this "safety" feature in my car. had that happened to the drivers seat while at speed, it could cause me to lose control as the impact to the back of my head would certainly be a major distraction if not cause a concussion. i'm getting the passenger seat fixed under warranty, but fca should also fix the drivers seat to prevent injury.
Driver's side active head rest that is intended to spring forward in a rear end collision has activated and is now sticking forward. the car was not in an accident. the problem is broken plastic pins in the head rest. there are many other similar complaints from owners online. i have been to multiple jeep dealerships regarding this issue and they refuse to fix the issue. they also claim that this deactivates the rest of the safety equipment including airbags which would be incredibly unsafe and unethical for them to not repair this clear defect.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 30 mph, the driver's seat headrest restraint deployed without an impact or crash occurring. as a result, the contact sustained neck and back injuries that required medical attention. the vehicle was taken to huffines chrysler jeep dodge ram plano (located at 4500 w plano pkwy, plano, tx 75093, (972) 867-6000) where it was diagnosed that the headrest security clip failed and the entire headrest needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. the approximate failure mileage was 74,000.
Head restraint on drivers side deployed while vehicle was in park, in a parking lot. it hit the driver on the head. trying to reset, so far no luck. this could have been very dangerous if the vehicle had been in motion, it was quite shocking to have my head hit and to have it pushed forward suddenly.
Takata recall while driving my car doing 20 mph in normal driving conditions my passenger headrest deployed hitting an elderly passenger in the back of their head. hurting them. the headrest deployed like an airbag. it was spring loaded. i called my dealer and they told me it was not covered under warranty and that there were no recalls. this is very unsafe and these headrests should not be in any vehicle at all. i fear now that while i'm driving that the driver side headrest will deployed for no reason and hurt me too while driving. this will cause serious injuries. very upset
Takata recall while driving my car doing 20 mph in normal driving conditions my passenger side headrest malfunctioned and deployed hitting the passenger in the back of the head. the headrest deployed and exploded with a lot of force. it was a very scary situation. i had no idea that the headrests were capable of that. upon further investigation i saw that the plastic 'clips' that keep the headrest from going off had been completely shattered and broken making the headrest unfixable. when i called the jeep dealership they told me if the 'clips' were broken that the headrest needed to be replaced. i am shocked that a 'safety feature ' malfunctioning is a problem that i need to pay to fix. (about $680 for a replacement plus labor cost) this could have resulted in a serious crash and injuries. this style headrest needs to banned. also other jeep owners need to be aware of this. it's very unsafe and jeep needs to replace the headrest with a completely different safer headrest. i fear now that when i'm driving that the driver side headrest could malfunction and explode at the back of my head resulting in serious injuries. ive talked to other jeep owners with the same style vehicle and none of them were aware of this 'safety feature' with the headrest. and not one single mention in the owners manual about this deploying headrest. people need to be aware!!
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the driver's side headrest restraint system deployed without warning or impact while driving 20 mph. the contact jerked forward as if the vehicle had been rear ended. there were no injuries. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (ed koehn chrysler jeep dodge ram, 11282 w carson city rd, greenville, mi 48838, (616) 754-3635). the dealer stated that there was no recall on the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer provided a case number and promised a call back. the manufacturer also informed the contact to call nhtsa to file a complaint. the failure mileage was 55,340.
Headrest equipped with active head restraints deployed while driving down a city street, striking the driver in the back of the head, the car was not involved in an accident and no impact occurred that would have caused the deployment. driver was struck in the head forcefully and was scared by the sudden strike on the back of the head and could have caused an accident had other cars been around. this same situation occurred with the passenger on a separate occasion 2 weeks later.
Car was stationary in a parking lot, the mechanism that holds the active restraint head rest together failed, the restraint system activated a hit me in the back of the head. i notified fca usa. they told me that they would not fix or pay for the safety system, they offered no help what so ever.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 65 mph, the driver's side head restraint detached from the seat. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact called len stoler chrysler dodge and jeep at (410) 876-8800 (located at 1001 baltimore blvd, westminster, md 21157) where an appointment was scheduled for diagnostic testing and repairs. the manufacturer was informed of the failure, but no assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 69,000.
I was sitting in the vehicle parked not running. the passenger side active head rest disengaged and hit my daughter in law in the back of the head. the car was not moving nor was the car even running. this is something that chrysler should take a look at because after review apparently this has been happening a lot. chrysler will not help in anyway for me to fix this and this is it $830 repair. if this happens when someone is driving down the road someone could be fatally injured and someone else could be injured as well possibly in another vehicle. this is a safety hazard that chrysler should make good on.
The driver's side active head rest deployed inappropriately and for no reason with no vehicle impact while parked inside my garage. the plastic tabs are broken and the headrest cannot be appropriately reset as it is designed to do. this is a manufacturer defect, there are hundreds of posts online with the same complaint, dealers refuse to repair outside of warranty. my particular case did not result in injury or crash, however if the headrest deployed hitting the driver while at high speeds could cause an accident or injury.
I was driving on i25 in denver and when i was just getting off the exit ramp i hit a very small bump and i heard a loud noise. i couldn't tell if it was inside or outside the vehicle at first. i looked over and was surprised to see that the passenger headrest had deployed its mechanism to move part of it forward to lessen the affect of whiplash from an accident. it was a startling noise and i wondered what would have happened if a family member would have been in that seat and been hit in the head by the headrest. even more of a concern would be if the deployment would have been on the driver side. who knows what would have happened if i had been startled by getting hit in head at highway speed. i now drive the car with the seat adjusted at about a 60 degree angle to avoid that scenario. i was shocked to find out from fca that there was no recall for such a serious safety issue. i complained to them and they are not standing behind the safety of their vehicles. i purchased the vehicle in 2017 as a certified preowned vehicle and that program wouldn't cover the repair of the vehicle either. the dealership wants to charge me $1,000 to fix it but they can't get a new headrest because it is back ordered. obviously this is because it is happening to other jeep owners. i also saw on a jeep blog that this is happening to others. i found it very hard to believe that an oem does not have to repair a safety device that deploys for no reason and puts the passengers at risk. i look forward to hearing from you.[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).' *pm
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 10 to 15 mph, the driver's headrest air bag abruptly deployed. there were no injuries. the vehicle was taken to romano chrysler jeep (215 w genesee street, fayatteville, ny 13066, 315-637-3101) where it was diagnosed that the driver's headrest air bag needed to be reset. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that there was no recall for the failure. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 58,000.
My driver side ahr headrest recently broke while i was in my car and i was very nearly hit by it, which would have caused injury for sure. i know that there are numerous problems with this part. the car was parked and only the left side deployed. the plastic pieces holding the headrest in are both broken.
Headrest deploys without collision. while parked in driveway overnight, drivers side headrest deployed (popped open and forward). dealership found no faults.
I was driving down the street after visiting a friend when i hit a hole in the street and heard this noise and looked over and the headrest had came apart went to the dealer and was told that they could not fix it because it was cosmetic. *js
While parked, vehicle running, the "active head rest" deployed on the drivers side striking me in the back of the head.. vehicle was not in motion nor was the vehicle involve in a collision. upon contacting jeep i was told that this was normal wear and tear and would not be fixed due to my vehicle being out of warranty.
Passenger headrest exploded when adjusting. vehicle was not in motion.headrest exploded forward.
Front passager headrest deployed while parked and idling. passager had just entered the vehicle.
The active head rest deployed while we were parked and eating taco bell after driving through the drive through. my girlfriend and i had parked the jeep and began eating some tacos. while parked, i heard a pop sound like an explosion. it sounded like a pistol had been shot off near my vehicle, i even ducked for cover to anticipate the possibility of more shots, then i realized my girlfriend was injured. she had been hit in the back of the head. not by a gunshot but by my jeep grand cherokee's (limited 4x4 3.6l v6 2014) active head rest safety system had deployed while parked and struck her in the back of the head while we ate food in the parking lot. my girlfriend is [xxx] and she has since seen a doctor and missed time off of work over the injury and pain resulting from this defective headrest. after reading that there have been over 150 complaints of this occurring already, jeep, chrysler, dodge, is well aware of this and they have done nothing to make its owners aware of the issue. they should be recalling this immediately and they know it. but because the device cannot be reassembled afterwards and must be replaced entirely (cost for the headrest alone is about $800) and there's two per vehicle (at a minimum) which would result in jeep having to spend a great deal of additional time and resources including the most important to them - money. so because jeep didn't want to account for a small deduction in their 1.6 billion dollars in pre-tax annual profits, my girlfriend and i have had to suffer instead. this is a very dangerous accident and just imagine if i were driving on the highway when it deployed and struck me i would be a dead man for sure and there may be others as well. where is the accountability and concern for vehicle owners? those are conveniences that are prioritize far down the list; behind money, profit, stock price, corporate greed!! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr ..*bf. *tr

The driver side head rest deployed while setting in driveway. not in motion.
I was driving at about 10 mph and the front passenger headrest deployed hitting my fianc in the the back of his head. it appear the plastic latch broke on the inside of the mechanisms. this is an extreme saftely issue as i swerved due to the extremely loud noise. upon searching on google it appears this is a major issue with the jeep's grand cherokees for those year. this needs to be recalled before someone is injured. if i was on the freeway and it happened to the driver side seat then this could have resulted into a major accident
While stopped at a light the driver's side active headrest deployed striking the driver in the back of the head. there was no collision or somebody touching the active headrest. on inspection found two pieces of plastic that had broken off of the mechanism. the car is four years old with less than 47,000 miles.
Passenger front seat active headrest (ahr) deployed due to plastic clip fatigue. the vehicle has never been involved in an accident and was parked in my home garage when the ahr deployed. the plastic clips/tabs holding the ahr from popping out broke off and landed in the front passenger seat. this is a very dangerous issue as if it happens to the driver expectantly this could result in a severe accident. jeep is aware of this issue and is doing nothing.
My family was driving down the road at approximately 50mph on a 4 lane city street. i was sitting in the passenger seat speaking to my son in the back seat when i was abruptly hit in the side of the face with the seat. we had no idea what happened until my son said the seat blew up. we stopped and got out of the car to see that the headrest had deployed somehow.
The driver head rest deploued while driveing almost causeing the drive to loose controll
Passenger front active headrest deployed without accident or warning. just popped out while vehicle was parked in my garage. took it to the dealer, stephen wade chrysler jeep in st george ut, and they stated that the vehicle was outside its warranty period and the repair would be around $600. it appears that plastic tabs are all that holds this safety device together. luckily i was not driving with a passenger who may have been injured by the sudden violent deployment.
I was coming to a gradual stop at a traffic light on a local road when the active head restraint seemingly deployed. i was not in a collision and there was no reason for it to deploy. upon examining the mechanism it was not triggered, rather it failed because the plastic clips that held onto the latch had broken off internally causing the headrest to hit me violently in the back of the head. this could have been far worse had i not been almost at a complete stop.
Front passenger active head restraint deployed spontaneously overnight with car parked in driveway. weather was cool, there was no impact to any part of the car, no airbags deployed, the driver side head restraint did not deploy. broken plastic hooks in the deployed headrest made it impossible to reset the deployed headrest. if this spontaneous deployment had happened while the car was being driven it would clearly have caused a dangerous distraction. if the driver side headrest deploys spontaneously while the car is being driven it would cause a very dangerous distraction and possibly injury to the driver most likely resulting in an accident or collision. i have researched this situation on the internet and i have identified multiple similar spontaneous deployments due to material fatigue reported on forums, with no effort by fiat chrysler to remediate the problem. my local jeep dealer refuses to replace the headrest as my jeep is out of warranty. in my opinion, this represents a design flaw in the active headrest that could result in injury or death if the deployment were to happen while the car is being driven.
The active head restraint system suddenly deployed while driving normally on city streets, and was not involved in a collision of any kind. plastic retaining clips now visible inside the headrest appear to have failed, preventing resetting.
I was parked in my driveway (as i just got home from work) talking to my daughter and her father (who were parked to my drivers side getting ready to leave in another vehicle) when we all heard a loud noise and something hit the side of my head very hard. the activated head rest shot open for no reason at all. the car was in park and nobody was in the vehicle except for me.there was no impact or anyone touching the outside of the vehicle either. i am fortunate that i was not driving at the time this happened as this could have caused an accident with the impact of the headrest hitting my head.
Active headrest on passenger headrest deployed without cause. the vehicle has never been involved in any accident and only noticed the headrest had become loose. when i took it to the dealership they'd indicated that the active headrest had deployed. after opening a case with jeep chrysler they have refused to correct it. there are a large number of cases for this exact same issue which poses a huge safety risk. dealership is requesting over $800 to repair what is an obvious defect with the number of others that have experienced the exact same problem.
Vehicle is equipped with 'active headrests' which are intended to deploy in event of collision. front passenger headrest malfunctioned and deployed while driving and unoccupied. front passenger seat is rarely occupied and vehicle has never been in a collision. the internal components of the headrest are broken and it cannot be reset. chrysler has refused to offer assistance for this important safety component given that the vehicle is out of warranty. given that this is a safety item that i should be able to depend on, the fact that the front seat is rarely occupied and therefore been subjected to minimal wear and tear and that my research finds this to be an ongoing issue with jeep vehicles equipped with this feature, it appears that this is an issue that needs to be addressed immediately.
I got in my car one evening and noticed the passenger side active head restraint was popped open. apparently this happened while the car was sitting in my garage. i have not had an accident and this seat very rarely has anyone sitting in it. when i took it to the chrysler dealership, the service rep. said the chrysler rep. was there that day. the service rep. came back to me a little while later and said, "apparently this is happening quite a bit. the chrysler rep. has your contact information. they will investigate and get in touch with you." over a week later, they finally sent an e-mail saying they would not replace the part because the vehicle is out of warranty. this is a safety feature that has failed!!! others have posted on the internet that the same thing happened to them, some while driving down the road! i think there should be a recall to replace the defective active head restraints!!! not only is a broken one going to fail to protect someone in a wreck, but one popping open while driving down the road can cause a wreck! the plastic parts inside the head restraint are apparently not strong enough for the tension that is placed on them. chrysler should replace these defective safety devices!
My seven month pregant fianc and i entered the vehicle and before starting the truck the passenger side (ahr) headrest deployed without provocation. there was no accident to cause it to deploy and during the incident it struck her in the back of the head. when this happened she nearly had a panic attack having been startled. the broken pieces from the headrest flew out and landed in the back of the vehicle. had somebody or my child been in the rear seat they would've been showered with pieces as the headrest exploded for no apparent reason. called chrysler and they will not cover the repairs because the vehicle is 600 miles over the bumper to bumper warranty. this being a safety issue it really boggles me why i am liable to pay for damages. this isn't a normal wear and tear deal with the vehicle, this is a safety issue. now that the headrest has exploded she is even more in danger riding in the seat, the headrest being apart causes her to adjust how she sits in the vehicle including how she holds her head. if there is a rear-end collision my fear is the malfunctioned piece of safety equipment will cause more damage than help. this is not acceptable to have customers riding with malfunctioning head restraints.
Front passenger headrest active safety device faiilure. front headrests have active device that are designed to trigger in a rearend collision. headrest is designed to release/ spring forward to help prevent neck injuries when vehicle is struck from the rear. internal mechanism has failed plastic supports within are broken headrest cannot be reset thus active safety function cannot function. headrest is stuck in the forward or triggered position. my local jeep dealer milton ruben nor jeep customer service will work with me on the cost of repair. dealer quoted $755+ to replace. note: there are reports of same issue when searched on the internet. failure of this device could cause an accident if failure happened while driving. it is my opinion that jeep should cover or at least cover some of the cost of replacement.
The active head restraint (headrest) of my jeep deployed while driving down the highway causing me to swerve into the other lane. luckily, there weren't any cars immediately around me so i was able to regain control and continue on without injury. i believe this could be a very dangerous defect in other situations. the active head restraint is intended to go off in a collision to prevent whiplash from airbag deployment as far as i understand. my vehicle was not in an accident or touched in any way, simply traveling straight down the highway. this was confirmed by an inspection at the local jeep dealership.
Front passenger seat squeaks excessively. dealership said the (metal) set track is somehow worn down causing the seat not to sit firmly in the track. this play between the set track and seat is what is causing the squeaking. they advised me on replacing the entire seat track assembly. how could a seat that does not properly sit in the track not a safety concern if an accident occurs? also, how does the metal seat track get that worn on a fairly new vehicle that barley gets used (front passenger)?
Active head restraint (ahr) passenger side deployed due to defective lock mechanism. the plastic hooks broke and the ahr will no longer lock into place. the vehicle has not been in any accident and deployed while parked.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 35 mph, a loud noise occurred. the contact noticed that the passenger headrest air bag deployed without warning. the vehicle was taken to rydell chrysler dealer (700 san fernando rd, san fernando, ca 91340, phone (866) 733-3506) where it was diagnosed that an electrical concern headrest restraint did not lock into place, and the front passenger seat headrest restraint needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. in addition, while driving 65 mph, the engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to rydell chrysler where it was diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 22,000.
The wiring harness that runs to the driver side power seat controls has rubbed up against the metal frame and failed. this failure has caused a small electrical fire due to arching which is only solved by pulling the fuse. a new wire harness is needed to fix. dealership says this is not under warranty. could have caused fatality if seat was completely engulfed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that there was a random failure with the instrument cluster warning indicators flickering without warning. the radio and vent controls failed to work for heat and air conditioning, the heated seats had issues, and the steering wheel became extremely hot. the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times and they were not able to provide a remedy. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 14,000.
