Purchased 2014 jeep grand cherokee overland on january 1, 2014. engine malfunction indicator light ("mil") engaged on multiple occasions in 1st 6 months of lease. codes are p035 knock sensor (3 times- 4/4/14, 4/11/14, 5/2/14) code p0520 oil sensor (5/19/14) and car has been at dealership since 8/26 for new unidentified issue also related to mil. car is also subject to most recent safety recall (vanity light/fire). car is unsuitable for driving with small children. concerned that multiple related issues are part of a larger safety issue. *tr
On 3/27/14, my brand new 2014 jeep grand cherokee spontaneously burst into flames and almost got in my face. after smelling and seeing smoke, i pulled over into a dirt parking lot at a business and the dashboard of my new vehicle burst into flames, after i heard a "woosh." a lady from the local business came running out of the business with a fire extinguisher and i was able to shoot it into the holes that were once the heat vents to kill the flames. the dash was buckled, the windshield blackened, the gauges melted, the roof lining gone, the visors melted, and the inside covered with co2 and smoke damage. i suffered smoke and co2 inhalation and my clothes were ruined, but i am lucky to be alive! the dealer refuses to help me....updated 09-10-2014 *bf updated 11/7/2014 *js
When accelerating, the engine always hesitates for several seconds, then surges forward. this condition creates a safety issue during passing, merging into oncoming traffic, evasive maneuvers, etc. this problem has existed since new, and has not improved. bergey chrysler, jeep service dept. has informed me that the hesitation while accelerating "operates as designed", and cannot be repaired. *tr
Our jeep grand cherokee has been has been having electrical problems. several different electrical problems occur after which the check engine light will illuminate. of these electrical problems the dangerous ones include: headlights shutting off, dashboard completely shutting, and vehicle shut off while in motion. we have had the following replace in our vehicle: burnt wires in our engine harness, faulty solenoid, alternator, pcm, and abs module. the issue still occurs. purchasing the vehicle in dec we've brought the vehicle back into the dealership for service 3-4 times. while we haven't filed for lemon law yet, jeep promised us that they would take a look at replacing our vehicle after a number of problem. their answer to us was to wait to see if the issue occurred again. while we may file for lemon law, we feel that it will be important that we report these issues as they are experienced by other consumers on forums across the internet. *tr
Check engine light came on, took to service garage. diagnosed with ck dtc's-p0302 #2 cylinder misfire. service department claims they road tested -issue cleared. i picked up the vehicle, drove approximately 5 miles with same issue. i called dealer, they said to continue to drive the vehicle for a week or so, and see if it fixes itself. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee tdi. the contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled and all of the warning lamps illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 800.
While driving uphill, in wet or rainy conditions, the new jeep diesel 3.0l engine starts to hesitate, this causes the vehicle to vibrate severely. the first occurrence was at 40mph, after taking it to the dealership they reflashed the tcm which i believe changed the shift points in the transmission, while driving home the same problem occurred, this time at 45mph. i took the jeep back to the dealership where they reflashed the pcm, when driving home the same problem occurred, this time at 50mph. this engine hesitation causes severe vibration, i am worried that if the engine cuts out at this speed, it will cause a serious accident. i have video footage of this occurring. *tr
my current lease, a 2014 jeep grand cherokee laredo, has been plagued with defects. there have been 9 recalls, 16 service bulletins, and 5 investigations'.in addition there are 587 driver/owner complaints. my problems: instability of the transmission. after parking next to a storage bin, transmission slipped out of park and the jeep moved forward crushing my leg in the door and denting/scratching the exterior of vehicle. there has been no indication that fca (jeep) has resolved this issue. another problem i'm having, which has been plaguing many other jeep owners, is where the engine warning light illuminates with no indication of specific information with regard to what the malfunction might be. after 5 service visits over the past 2 years , jeep has proven they unable to remedy this. i continue driving with uncertainty and stress with my passengers and i fearing ourlives may be endangered. the engine light is currently illuminated. i am not getting the level of vehicle safety and dependability i am paying for. i have filed a complaint on the website of jeep and have offered fca(jeep) a settlement whereby i would be refunded the leasing charges i paid and the company would consent to an early termination of the lease with no penalties or charges. fca(jeep) has failed to remedy my problem. (please see attached details) fca us llc is required to execute certain performance obligations , pursuant to the july 24, 2015 consent order, amended december 8, 2015, the objectives of which are to mitigate the risks of harm and promote safety for we, the consumers. fca, however, persists in violating and disregarding me in a blatant act of non-compliance with the order. i seek assistance in expediting remedial action in this matter as a victim, and the protection of my rights as a consumer, and as an american citizen. ?approximately twenty nine (29) days after purchasing the vehicle i began to have trouble with the 911 button on the rearview mirror flashing red which would lead to a message on the navigation screen which read ?vehicle phone requires service contact dealer?. ?the vehicle has been returned to the dealer for service on 12/21/13, 5/17/14, 7/21/14 and 7/29/14 for this 911 button issue on 5/17/14 said vehicle was returned to the crowley service dept. for the same problem of the 911 button flashing and the message on the navigation screen reading ?vehicle phone requires service contact dealer.? on 7/21/14 said vehicle was again brought to the crowley service dept. for a multitude of issues: ?again the 911 light on the rearview mirror was flashing and the navigation screen read ?vehicle phone requires service contact dealer?. ?the airbag light on the dashboard was illuminated: ?the seatbelt indicators for both driver and passenger were lit up and would not stop ?dinging? regardless of proper use or there not being a passenger in the seat ?the rpms would suddenly skyrocket and the vehicle would make a ?vroom? noise while the digital screen read ?service shifter?: ?the air conditioning system was blowing warm air. on 7/29/14 said vehicle was returned to the crowley service dept. for a completely non-functional a/c system. on 7/31/14, after having the vehicle back from the crowley service dept for less than 24 hours, i attempted to answer a phone call using the bluetooth software in said jeep. the in dash phone displayed on the navigation screen no longer rings to notify the driver of an incoming call. attempts to select the green button to answer the calls lead to a transfer of audio from bluetooth to the handheld device, (illegal to use while driving in ct), and the call is terminated. *tr
I was driving on the highway about 65 mph. the wipers came on and the radio stopped. this happened on three other occasions. upon exiting the freeway and utilizing the brakes, the entire vehicle electronics flashed then the vehicle lost all power and stalled into blackness. i was able to safely stop the vehicle and restart. *tr
Evts inoperative, no blue light. took to dealership and found wire to evts emergency button severed, possibly shorted. repaired wires, did not correct condition. replaced with new evts, condition repaired successfully. at same time also had recall n58 performed, reprogram instrument cluster abs / al. then at 4040 miles oil change due light came on and had the first oil change done. the check engine light came on a very short time after that and back to the dealership at 4654 miles. said it was a defective oil pressure sensor, sensor was replaced, cleared codes and found no additional problems. now at about 12000 miles the oil change due light never came on, but took the car in for an oil change anyway. now the check engine light along with a low oil pressure light came on, car did not want to shift or speed up, got off the road and had car towed to dealership waiting to be repaired again. *tr
Soon after taking possession of this vehicle (9/27/13) i noticed that now and again (4/5 times) there would be a hesitation from the automatic transmission when shifting to the next higher gear when accelerating to highway speed. it was so subtle that i filed it under "nothing is perfect", but would keep score. don't be misled by the low mileage above. that is my new normal. a head and neck injury in 2001 followed by a long overdue diagnosis of severe ptsd by the va left me practically a "house hermit" and driving anywhere involving distance requires hiring a driver. this vehicle was nothing more than my being able to have access to the woods with a 911 button attached to keep the p/a in check. what happened to me was that from a stop sign i turned onto the main highway and was accelerating to 55 when at about 50 the transmission hung, this time it would not release to the next gear, the engine began to struggle until it almost stalled. as unexpectedly as it had hung the transmission shifted, the engine immediately recovered ""with a roar"" and off we went. (extra rpm's, ? computer/fuel pump saw no problem) i'm sure that in those seconds my speed dropped 20 mph's with no "warning", such as brake lights had someone been behind me. had this occurred entering a busy belt-way, interstate, etc., you can imagine the possible may-hem. did some research, got an appointment for service at the dealership and was told (as expected from research) their computer saw no abnormalities and showed me a blank piece of paper to prove it. asked them to sign a piece of paper saying my drivetrain was "just wonderful" and reaffirming that chrysler had never heard of any problems just in case i or others wound up dead or maimed from "no problems". i now have a "moral problem" sitting in my driveway and not out in the middle of the woods. *tr
Shortly after starting vehicle and driving at approx 10 mph, check engine light came on. 30 seconds later check engine light started flashing and misfire was felt, car began to shudder. i pulled over, turned off and restarted, again flashing check engine light and shuddering. vehicle was towed to dealer, who also felt misfire on cold start next am and codes confirmed misfires in multiple cylinders. dealer inspected engine but found no issues. next day, car operated normally. approximately 1-2 weeks later, on starting vehicle entire instrument cluster lit up, with check air bag warning and lights indicated abs failure and ecs off. car drove, but i subsequently realized speedometer did not work, it was very frightening to drive on highway without knowing my speed. after restarting check engine light remained on, but vehicle functioned normally. was going to bring back to dealer, but check engine light went off after about 6 drives. these issues are very worrisome and i feel uncomfortable every time i start the ignition. *tr
The driver pulled the automobile into a driveway on a downhill slope. the driver shut the vehicle off using the push button start/stop. the driver returned to the vehicle 10 minutes later, with a passenger in the front seat. the driver started the vehicle (foot on brake as required) using push button start/stop. the driver engaged the transmission into reverse using the shifting lever (with foot still on brake as is required by the brake transmission shift interlock (btsi) system). when engaged in reverse, the engine revved to a high level, and the car traveled in reverse up the hill (driveway), through the street, and into a ditch. side and front airbags deployed. driver believes they never took foot off the brake, and the braking was not sufficient to overcome torque of the engine/transmission. vehicle damage includes air bag deployment, cabin roof liner detachment, three bent wheels, minor damage to muffler, minor body damage. dealer checked electronics/instrument recordings and noted nothing unusual appearing, and had no knowledge of similar problems. *tr
2014 jeep grand cherokee. consumer writes in regards to acceleration problems. *smd the consumer immediately noticed upon receipt of the vehicle, that it did not drive smoothly and lacked power during acceleration. however, she felt it was due to lack of familiarity with the vehicle. the performance of the vehicle deteriorated to a point where a problem was evident. frequently, not all the time, the vehicle was very sluggish to accelerate and occasionally not respond at all for about ten seconds as the rpm's went up. it felt as the though, she was forcing the gas by pressing on the accelerator pedal, but the gas was blocked from flowing, or the vehicle was stuck in a low gear and not up-shifting. also, the check engine light illuminated, with only 1,231 miles. the consumer had to return to the dealer, several more times, due to the check engine light illuminating. *jb
I just purchased a brand new vehicle on 9/27/13. on 9/28/13 my vehicle caught fire. i first noticed it when i arrived home, smoke was coming from the front of the truck. i opened the hood and noticed fire coming from the side of the engine. *tr
In feb. 2013 i purchased a 2013 grand jeep trail hawk edition, in span of 3 to 4 months the jeep was in the service department 6 times trying to fix issues. jeep was unable to completely fix the problems to my satisfaction, i was given incentive to trade in for a 2014 grand jeep cherokee limited edition, which was running great until this past thursday. on thursday i started my jeep it barely would idle, i proceeded to get on the interstate which is when the vehicle started jumping up and down like i was going off road. it would suddenly change to neutral without me doing anything, it kept missing gears and barely running. i was barely able to get off the exit. when i got off the exit it would barely idle and again shifted to neutral without me doing anything. eventually i safely made it off the exit and into a parking lot where i got it towed. the tow truck driver could barely pull it up on the trailer. when it was placed on the trailer it wouldn't stay in park, it kept trying to shift out of gear. there needs to be some type of investigation in the grand jeep cherokee models and how they are passing inspections through production line because obviously for a consumer to get two defective vehicles in 7 months is unacceptable and unbelievable.
Jeep rollaway complaint: my brand new 2014 jeep cherokee rolled away from me when i put it into park. i got out of the car to get the mail and few seconds later, i hear a crash. the jeep rolled off the driveway into a tree. thank god no one was in the way and my daughter was not in the car. i got back into the car and found that it was in reverse, not park! the font bumper was dislodged and smashed. i had been having a lot of trouble getting the electron gear selector to choose the correct gear since the day i bought the car. 50% of the time i would discover that i was in reverse when i thought i was in park. there is very little clearance between the two gears, nothing definitive like there is on a slide track in most cars with a definitive clunk when you put it into park. the only way to be absolutely sure was to look down at the gear shift to see the light indicator. i've been driving all my 59 year old life and have never had an accident. i was so upset and frustrated with the gear shift that i took it back and ordered a 2013 jeep with the old gear shift on a track system. i'd had it! if they don't change the gear system in the next jeep, i will have to buy a different make. the problem, although may have been some kind of defect in the electronic gear shift, is, in my opinion, not a defect, so naturally chrysler will not find any defects. i think it is poor design and a hazard. it is a human interface problem. park should not be so close to reverse. the gear shift only moves about a 1/4 inch one way or the other. you can not depend on feel to tell which gear you are in, which you can when you have a car with a slide track gear shift. also, another incident: i was making a left and had to break hard for a sec, my purse moved forward and easily pushed the gear into neutral when i needed to be in gear for oncoming traffic. stupid design.
Whole panel goes blank lose all info for driving brakes seem abnormal does not brake easy. navigation instrument panels go blank and freeze also car shifter from auto drive to super while driving. 3rd attempt to fix replaced whole cluster but still have the same problem my wife will not drive car anymore due to fear of safety and have children only 5000 miles on it and we cannot drive anymore very unsafe. lemon law should go into effect asap. *tr
Vehicle is slow when shifting in low gears; pulling away from stop lights/signs feels as if the car is not in drive and going to stall. this could result in being rear ended since so many drivers speed away when light turns green. it seems like it stutters during shifting. having it in eco-mode highlights the issue further. the down shifting at higher speeds feels like a stick shift car, not normal or comfortable. even on the highway acceleration is often not very responsive during entrance and passing. the gas pedal is very touchy, no way to pull away slowly, just takes off; this might be part of the issue, confusing the sensors during shifting. i contacted my sales person who said he'd have a service tech contact me, no calls yet. i wish i had checked this site and edmunds before buying, as i would have chose a different manufacturer. this is my 4th jeep gr cherokee, unfortunately the least desirable, my '09 had zero issues and original brakes at trade in with over 105,000 miles; '14 is likely my last. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. when starting the vehicle, the engine light illuminated. the failure recurred once. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that there was a malfunction with the oil pressure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000.
After taking my new jeep into dealer because the "check engine" light came on, i was told that there were 16 stored codes but they could find no problem and the computer was reset. two days later the check engine light again came on. i took back to the dealership and was told "there is a leak in the fuel tube" we have to replace it but we will have to order the part; we don't have it in stock. i was told "it is safe to drive"...a leak in the fuel tube-what the heck is leaking-is safe. ok, but two trips to the dealer with less than 2,500 miles is a bit much. i have a 2006 jeep, same make/model that had 1st major repair (water pump) at 145,000 miles....so much for improved models. i am very concerned that this is a harbinger of future issues. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the instrument panel failed to illuminate. the contact also stated that the vehicle erroneously started. the vehicle was being diagnosed. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 10,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the manual for the vehicle stated that the engine should shut off when the key fob was removed from the vehicle. the contact parked the vehicle in a residential garage overnight and the following day, he found that the vehicle was still powered on. the vehicle was taken to the dealer because the failure caused the catalytic converter and fuel pump to fail. the engine became extremely hot and remained on even after there was no more fuel in the vehicle. the contact spoke with the manufacturer and was told that they would not assist due to user error. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure and the current mileage was 1,093. *tr
While traveling at high speed or low speed for no reason vehicles gear shifter selects neutral on its own. also problems with vehicle instruments display, displaying various faults with vehicle. after vehicle comes to a stop and vehicle restarted problem disappears then reappears a short time later. now taken back to dealer for them to repair vehicle. still waiting after two weeks for chrysler to repair/supply new parts. *tr
Car stalled during a right turn. the instrument panel registered neutral, but the gear shift was in drive, with the engine off. the dealer was unable to find a problem. ..updated 08/19/13 *bf
The vehicle stalled for no reason. it took multiple attempts (approx 10 times) to restart the vehicle. it would start and i could drive 40-50 yards and would stall again. multiple lights came on such as vehicle in gear (it wasn't), etc. once it did restart and i was able to drive to the dealer the check engine light stayed on. the vehicle has done this twice now without cause (i have only had the vehicle for 4 weeks). the jeep dealership kept the vehicle for a couple days. they were finally able to reset the codes and did a software update. i found out a crank sensor had been replaced before i purchased the vehicle.they said they could not guaranty it would not happen again and to check back in the near future as additional software updates may become available. *tr
Continuously exhibiting persistent progressively worsening life-threatening transmission and electrical failures. transmission sticks in low gear and will not upshift, transmission stalls, push gas pedal to the floor and nothing happens, almost hit numerous times, gears jerk, rpms rev up and speed increases when applying brakes, will not slow down then bounces to a stop, interior lights short out, doors do not lock, electronic chirping sound from engine even when off, touchscreen/radio/climate controls do not work, total of 45 different defects, continuous since day purchased, sent 2 written notices to chrysler, has been 8 months and no one will help, increasingly fearful for safety. total of 43 days in shop and 14 attempts to repair same serious safety defects and conditions. *tr
