On average, the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 68 649 miles.

Similar to other complaints i've seen and related to the tipm / fuel pump relay in my opinion . car cranks but fails to start , however with a little patience and re trying it occasionally works . the battery was replaced and still persisted . then the keys were replaced and still persisted . then the win module was replaced and still persisted until finally i couldn't get it started after several attempts . towed to dealer and they think its fuel pump. ( but not 100% sure ) noticed intake manifold is cracked now too. ( from cranking over and over perhaps ? ) recall on the tipm resulted in them installing external fuel pump relay but my guess is the tipm is defective and the external fuel pump relay was band-aid solution . i'm still waiting to hear back from the dealer . i told them to start a tech ticket with head office so the unnecessary costs don't escalate any further .

When driving the vehicle within the first 20-45 minutes of starting, the vehicle will stall while driving when slowing down. the vehicle is still at speed but the engine stalls leaving no power steering or brakes. this occurs when slowing typically but can occur at speeds of up to 30-40mph. this happens almost daily at this point and seems to be getting worse. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v154000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic), 15v115000 (electrical system), and 15v879000 (electrical system, interior lighting). the contact later found out that the repairs were not completed. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.

Took my 2012 jeep grand cherokee to arrigo chrysler dodge jeep for 2 recalls in september 2016 one wiring issue in the visor and one fuel pump relay. dealer informed me recalls were remedied. december 16, 2016 i was experiencing problems starting vehicle and problems with vehicle sputtering while driving and while stopped. took car back to arrigo to diagnose problem. was told problem was fuel pump relay at cost of approximately $650. expressed my concerns that although recalls were recorded as "performed" in their system, car was not properly repaired. service advisor told me there was nothing else wrong with my vehicle and the recall actually took place june 2015. that is incorrect as i called fca and they in fact verified that in their system, recall was entered as "completed" in september 2016 at same dealer, arrigo. called arrigo and service advisor said he re-checked the vehicle and the fuel pump relay was actually in good shape, it was serviced in september 2016. he said the reason the check engine light was on was because the software needed updated and the check engine light would be okay and the vehicle was performing "as it is designed to work" having no other problems. i hesitantly paid $75 to have the "software updated" to avoid the $150 diagnostic fee if there is no service. one hour after i paid and left the dealer the check engine light came on and the vehicle began acting exactly like it had before "servicing" at the dealer. also later in the evening i tried starting the car and noticed the car would continue to crank without turning the vehicle on. again, the same problem i had before i took my car in. i believe no action was taken in repairing recall issues and they are trying to make customers pay ($650 in my case) to actually make the repairs.

Totally integrated power module (tipm-7) failure. the system continues running after the vehicle has been turned off.

Alternator / electrical issues- november 4, 2016 my wife was taking our son to school when she began getting a burning smell from under the hood. after dropping off my son, she pulled over and noticed smoke coming from under the hood. she cut the car off, initially thinking it just overheated. we left the car in the school parking lot overnight hoping it would start up the next day. i tried to start the car, but it wouldn't start and the key got stuck in the ignition. after having it towed to a mechanic, we learned that the alternator suddenly failed, draining the battery and causing the engine stall. this is my second time submitting this complaint with no response from your organization.

Vehicle has intermittent no start condition. tipm has been replaced and external relay has been installed per r009 recall but continues to have a fail to start condition. engine cranks as normal but engine doesn't start. will run after multiple tries. cost of repair was $900 but mostly paid by extended warranty. 38,000 miles.

Check engine light fault code "p2066" appeared twice since purchased new in 2012. the first event occurred in april 2013 at 17,000 miles. chrysler dealership replaced right and left fuel pump along with fuel level sensor under warranty. the second event occurred in may 2016 at 39,000 miles. the dealership quoted a price of $1700 for repair but after speaking to chrysler representative the price for repair was $500. this issue mirrors the 2005 chrysler pacifica recall nhtsa ref#06v432000 in which a p2066 fault code was generated leading to fuel pump module replacement. my understanding is that chrysler agreed to extend the warranty to 150,000 miles as there was was a defect in the engine subframe assembly leading to corrosion in the fuel pump area.

Unexpected engine stall while driving on freeway. this is the second time experiencing unexpected stall out while drive after the recall was completed.

Takada recall had recalls done car still hard to start and now dies when driving getting angry with the whole car very dangerous with kids in car

Takada recall took car had 4 recalls done now hard to start and while drive shout down

I currently have the 2012 jeep grand cherokee and over the years, my vehicle has had a total of (7) recalls. recalls: brakes, electrical, etc. the most recent recall stated that the vehicle could stall with the risk of a crash! upon receiving my notification letter, i made an appointment with the anticipation that the repairs would only take 1 ' 2 business days. unfortunately, the repair time was approximately 1 week through the weekend. i would like to express my un-satisfaction with the service at the chrysler group llc (chrysler) and at this time would like to escalate my concern as a complaint. i would like someone from the corporate office such a manager and/or director to contact me and explain why my issue can't be resolved. i would also like to register my complaint with bbb. i have attempted to contact chrysler group llc (chrysler) on many occasions to resolve my issue. i have purchased and leased several vehicles from chrysler over the years, and now i am very disappointed with the response i received to settle my claim for rental car reimbursement.

Fuel pump relay recall notice was received last summer (approx. 6 mo. ago), still can't get parts. the last 2 recalls for this vehicle took an extremely long time to get parts. this safety recall states that it can cause a crash! it needs to be fixed promptly or another vehicle should be provided. r09/nhtsa 15v-115

Leak in fuel vapor lines on top of gas tank to the canister and to the purge valve. this must be endemic to the car. there is a 60 backlog on the part. warning light remains on at all times, stationary or moving.

Engine light will come on and when i attempt to accelerate the jeep will not go over 25 mph. i need to pull over as soon as possible and turn the car off. i may need to do this several times before it will start to drive normally. the engine light will remain on anywhere from hours to several days while the car drives normally. there is no pattern to when it happens. i have taken the jeep in to a dealer. oil filter housing replaced. did not correct the problem - drove fine for 4 days. can happen anywhere - pulling out onto major highway or just driving on a country road. it is very dangerous and scary. it is back at the shop again. each time i have to pay for the repair and rent a another vehicle. it has been happening for a for quite awhile, but since i need my vehicle i have lived with it. i will soon be transporting 2 young children to camp every day and it is happening more often so i had to have it fixed. also the cost of repair is almost $3000 so far plus renting a vehicle at $50/day. i just purchased the vehicle 11/12/15. i put the date as 01/01/2016 since it has happened regularly since i got it, but it is now happening every few days.

My vehicle has a recall (r09/nhtsa 15v-115) for failure of the tipm resulting in vehicle stalls and non starts which have occurred on multiple occasions since 2013 most recently 12/15/15. my vehicle has stalled in traffic on the highway and interstate at speed in heavy traffic almost causing several accidents. i have taken the vehicle to the local dealer (napoleton) who attempted to fix without resolve. in fact, i brought back after there first attempt and they want to charge me $1600 to repair. i have researched other complaints and truly know this is an electrical issue that is part of the safety recall. additionally, my airbag light continues to come on which is also addressed in the recall. jeep has refused to repair and i cannot drive vehicle due to safety concerns. please help.

Vehicle recall repair (tipm fuel pump relay) was completed on sep 03, 2015 and again followed up on sep 14, 2015. no start conditions continue to occur multiple times per week. must cycle through ignition/accessory/run/off multiple times before starting on occasion. this condition may happen 1, 2, or 3 times in succession before engine will start. other times there is no occurrence for many days.

Vehicle will stall during use when foot is removed from gas pedal. while driving at full speed for the road and needing to take foot off gas pedal, the jeep's engine will shut off and i receive no light indicating that this has happened. it isn't until i attempt to turn the wheel or stop the jeep that i realize i have no power. typically happens when deaccelerating down an exit ramp or when turning through a traffic light. very dangerous to not be able to turn steering wheel and even more dangerous when i have someone immediately behind me that doesn't realize my car has stalled and is still moving as if i'm moving. i noticed this happening prior to recall notice15v-115 and had the recall work completed on 8-17-15. however, the vehicle continues to have the same issue and the dealership cannot duplicate the issue and the jeep's computer is not showing that there have been any engine stalls. specifically, this happens when vehicle is in motion immediately after taking foot off of the gas pedal. it has happened on highway exit ramps, at traffic lights on main roadways, and while turning through a light on a city street. 100% related to going above 35 mph and removing foot off of the gas.

Vehicle engine shut off during right turn in busy intersection without any warnings. unable to turn or control vehicle. also the brake on lights come on in the consul during normal operation. based on other jeep model recalls, i believe the problem may be related to the tipm-7 module. the vehicle is a grand cherokee overlander 4wd. vehicle was able to be restarted and has not had another failure, however, this is an unsafe driving situation when the vehicle's engine dies while in motion in any road condition. maybe related to recalls p54.

I have made 4 calls total to frontier in lubbock and all american in midland with no response on resolving the recalls p36, p14 and fuel pump relay. first call was made in october 2015. left 2 voice message2 and talked to 2 reps. that said they would call back to schedule.

Sudden stall out while driving at 45 mph (on telegraph road, redford, mi area- city street). this has occurred once after the recall was performed on the vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at 5 mph and coming to a stop sign, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was able to restart. the failure occurred multiple occasions. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 47,000. updated 1/21/16 *cn

Well not feel safe driving this car since i purchase this car 4-5 recall on this car and no happy to take for repair because used my own time for this

On multiple occasions i was unable to start the jeep and on multiple occasions the engine shutoff while driving at highway speeds due to a faulty fuel pump relay inside the tipm module processor

We notified shelor jeep about the december 2014 recall p60 /nhtsa 14v-634 promptly, but they continue to say the parts are unavailable. we notified them about the april 2015 recall r09 /nhtsa 15v-115, and they said the parts are also not available. both recall notices state the vehicle is dangerous --- vehicle shutdown or underhood electrical fire for the first recall and a crash for the second recall. jeep is not providing repair parts in anywhere near a timely manner! this vehicle is dangerous and must be repaired!

I received approximately 4 months ago an important safety recall for a problem with the fuel pump relay, the code was r09 / nhtsa 14v-115, but the recall notice indicated the repair part was not then available and a follow-up notice would be sent when it was. i have never received a follow-up notice saying the part is available, and every time i call the dealer they say they don't have the part and i should call back. the recall notice says the problem with the fuel pump relay "could cause the engine to stall while driving and cause a crash without warning." i don't know if it safe for me to drive this car or let my wife or kids drive it. i want it to be fixed immediately or to discuss other options. i cannot get through to the fca recall assistance center, the phone is always busy.

As i was driving to work in the morning, my vehicle stalled completely and i had to put my hazards on in the middle of the left side lane. luckily, there was no traffic behind me and i was able to remove the key, re-insert the key and the vehicle started up again. i wasn't going fast and there wasn't traffic to cause an accident but this has made me fear overtime i step foot into my vehicle. i'm a working mother and i need my vehicle to transport my family. i bought the jeep from vacaville dodge about a year ago and they failed to mention anything wrong with the vehicle. one month after owning it, i started to receive recall notices. i did take it in as soon as i got 3 in a row. the dealership told me they could fix two issues but one would have to wait until they have the right parts. this took two months before i could get it fixed. now, i have received an additional 3 recall notices and the dealership is telling me they will add me to a waitlist. the dealership has confirmed that they won't have all the necessary parts/time to fix the recalls for another couple months. my family's lives are in danger so i have chosen to use public transportation which is a huge inconvenience. i bought this vehicle because i've always trusted the dodge, chrysler, and jeep company. i'm making payments on a vehicle that i can't even use because of all these recalls.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. the contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 15v115000 (electrical system); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure.

Abruptly stalling while traveling on interstate highway. complete loss of all power, requiring to get off the road, place in park and re-start. re starts without hesitation. incident has occurred 5 different dates/times and the dealer has no fix stating they are unable to replicate the issue. most recent date 06/05/2015

Safety recall r09/nhtsa 14v-115 it has been over 6 months and it is still not fixed. dealership keeps saying it does not have part.

Interim recall notice sent out about 2 months ago in re to fuel pump relay. called dealer today & still no parts available & they have no further info. called the recall assistance number on the interim notice & get a recording that says call back & then disconnects. this is crazy as notice says the problem could cause a crash???

on may 19, 2015 contacted dealer about (tipm) safety recall r09/nthsa14v-115. service manager stated to me that they could not fix (tipm) present time because they did not have part. service department stated to me they did not know when part would be available. gave service department my cell phone number and asked to be contacted (asap) about recall part (tipm). i think chrysler should be made by our government to buy back my 2012 jeep. this is the (4th) safety recall i have had on this jeep. dealer has not fixed recalls in a timely manner. i will never purchase a chrysler product again, i am sick and tired of unsafe junk coming out of fiat/chrysler. all consumers should be made aware of unsafe junk being put in chrysler vehicles. we in america deserve better respect from all automakers. i think my next vehicle will come out of russia!!!!! maybe they will understand how to produce a safe vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. upon depressing the push to start button, the contact heard an abnormal noise and the vehicle would not start after several attempts. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel pump relay needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v154000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic), 14v391000 (electrical system) and 15v115000 (electrical system). the contact did not know when the parts would become available to schedule the repairs. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 29,410.

While turning at an intersection the vehicle stopped running. the engine died, power steering, power braking stopped worked. i nearly crash into the light pole at the intersection. the vehicle was able to be started once i took the vehicle to the nearest firestone car care center to find the problem. the tests found no issues. when i reached my home that afternoon the safety recall was in my mail box. i took the jeep to my local jeep dealer to find that jeep does not have the parts in place to fix the issue. now i have a useless and unsafe vehicle. please advise as to what the nhtsa can to to prompt the company to fix this issue. i was luck to not hit anyone or anything but, i could have been in a serious accident if i had been on the higway.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at 40 mph, the vehicle attempted to stall. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v115000 (electrical system) and stated that the fuel pump needed for the recall repair was not available. the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 27,500.

Received recall notice (r09/nhsta 15v-115) 4/15/15. to date, 8/3/15, have not been notified of availablility of replacement parts. prior defects with this vehicle include: replacement of right cylinder head just 8 months after purchase; followed by 3 safety recalls for alternator (nhsta 14-v-634) which took 6 months to get replaced due to lack of parts availability; brake booster (nhsta 14v-154) and sun visor wiring (nhsta 14v-391). i believe a refund/buy back is warranted due to the safety hazards this vehicle has presented and excessive delays in getting necessary repairs.

I was notified by fca in april 2015 of the r09 / nhtsa 14v-115 recall. i received no notice regarding replacement or repair. on 8/5/2015 i contacted the dealership and was advised that parts had just arrived. the vehicle is scheduled for repair on 8/10/2015. i believe that this issue, in conjunction with other safety issues involving wiring and brakes, establishes a major safety concern with this vehicle. i believe fca should offer buy backs or significant trade incentives for this vehicle.

I have received the #r09 15v-115 fuel pump relay notice and contacted dealer, parts still unavailable. exceeds a reasonable amount for time for repair. the dealer stated that parts needed were not available. the manufacturer had not yet determined a solution for the issue. the manufacturer was not made aware of the delay. the vehicle was not repaired. vehicle on multiple occasions fails to start.

Safety recall for the fuel pump relay needs to be replaced. i have had the recall for 8 months .every time i call they don't have the part. the vehicle now has a warning lite appearing .the fuel relay has also prevented the vehicle fro shutting off 2 different times.. i know this is a safety hazard . i need this fixed immediatly

I received a recall notice back in april about the fuel pump relay in my car needing replaced, as it can possibly cause a crash. i haven't heard from anyone since, and we are now about to go into july. this is unacceptable and makes me really nervous to drive the car. please advise...updated 08/06/15 *bf updated 9/29/2015*js

3/28/2015 (20,924 miles): this is the second time my 2012 jeep grand cherokee has stalled when i put it in reverse after starting. i started the jeep and put it in reverse and i began to back out of a parking space and it stalled. however, when i looked at the display showed that the jeep was in park, however the shift lever was still in reverse, and the radio was still on like the car electronics were on. i moved the shift lever back into park. i pushed the start/stop button but i could not get the vehicle instruments or radio to shut off. i tried several attempts to start the vehicle, however it just clicked once and the starter did not engage. while my foot was on the brake, i put the gear shift in reverse and then back into park. i again tried to push the start/stop button and this time it just kept cranking but failed to start. the vehicle started to roll while the dash displayed p and i was in a level parking lot. when i stepped on the brakes they were hard to press. i used my phone to call moss bros service and they transferred me to the moss motors riverside, ca service center. i explained my situation but all service advisors were busy. i waited on the line for over 11 minutes and someone came back on the line and told me that someone would call me back. see call log from phone records below. i explained to the operator that if i could not get the vehicle to turn off that the battery would eventually go dead. after waiting on hold all this time i attempted to push the start/stop button one more time and this time all controls seem to shut off. i pushed the start/stop button again and the vehicle did start this time. Car slightly stalled as i tried to accelerate from a stop at a street light. after a few seconds it jolted forward and then continued to drive as normal. now experiencing problems starting the car on a regular basis, sometimes needing 2 to 3 attempts to properly start the engine. *tr

The 2012 jeep grand cherokee check engine light was on and stalled then pulled over to side of street then restarted engine.took to dodge dealership -had major engine failure no-to low compression on lft cylinder head. is the fuel tank on this vehicle defective will it leak and explode/catch fire if rear ended? this vehicle was owned by dealership with open/active recall safety defects. should i be concerned with driving this vehicle. dealership did not disclose this when they sold the vehicle. how is this legal and allowed to get away with this dangerous vehicle. i don't want to put my family in it. maybe the dealership owner will put his family in it since he's selling defective cars. i just get another safety recall notice. this vehicle is an accident/fatality waiting to happen. the manufacturer/dealership should refund the purchase price or be criminally charged. i paid thousands of $'s, this vehicle is a total loss who going to buy it. *tr

Having the jeep services for a broken chair rail ($1200!) and they told me the power steering reservoir was empty and the power steering pump, reservoir, rack and pinion and hoses will need to be replaced for another $2350! i've read that this vehicle has a history of this and has created a fire hazard. this car is not 3 years old and has had fuel pump, water pump, rear latch lock and multiple recalls on other items. dealership is raking in the cash; it very upsetting for someone who really wants to buy american made vehicles! *tr

My 2012 jeep grand cherokee suddenly began having problems starting. since mar 7th there have been 3 incidents in which pressing the start button caused the engine to turn over but not start. all 3 incidents were situations in which i was trying to restart the car within 30 minutes of previously turning the car off. 2 of the 3 incidents occurred within 15 minutes of turning the car off. for example, i forgot to bring an item with me from my house, turned the car off and went in the house to retrieve the forgotten item. then, when trying to restart the car the engine would turn over but no ignition from the cylinders. subsequent repeated efforts to start the car were futile, but if i waited 30 minutes or more the car would start up. this problem creates difficulty for anyone doing a short errand such as buying something from a convenience store or dropping the kids off for school. i read that chrysler will be issuing a recall on the fuel pump relay, i hope this helps. i am filing this complaint to make sure my name gets included among those that need repairs. thanks. *tr

Vehicle was brought in to dealer on 3/24/15 for stalling issues and other safety recalls. car had not started on at least 4 occasions up until 3/24/25. i was told the key fob batteries needed to be replaced and that may fix the issue. i paid to have both batteries replaced. on 5/4/15 i brought the vehicle back to the dealer because the not starting issue had become more extreme. it occurred 8 times since the 3/24/15 service and on one occasion it would not accelerate while i was driving on a highway. there was an extreme delay and suddenly the car reacted and lurched forward. this was the first time it had ever done this. additionally, on one occasion of not starting it continued to chug instead of just not reacting. dealer advised again that one of the key fobs needed to have a battery replaced (both were replaced the previous month) and that they didn't have parts for the safety recall. headquarters advised they would let me know in a few weeks or months when the parts would be available. the problems is rapidly getting worse and there are indications that there may be issues while i am driving it as well. i have asked for escalation and something even a temporary fix be done. no response from headquarters yet. *tr

Jeep attempts to start when start is pushed. engine turns but will not start. occasionally it starts and then quickly shuts down. other times it starts and runs perfectly. *tr

Vehicle stalled while stopped at stop light. when started, idled very rough and stalled again. car was towed to dealer. dealer indicated failure in fuel pump relay. repair involves disabling of fuel pump relay in totally integrated power module (tipm) and installing external fuel pump relay. failure also resulted in failure of valve spring. the repair regarding the fuel pump is identical to the repair outlined in chrysler safety recall p54/nhtsa 14v-530, which per chrysler customer service rep is only applicable to 2011 vehicles and not 2012 vehicles. this fuel pump failure affects more vehicles than outlined by original recall. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the fuel pump relay needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v530000 (electrical system). the failure mileage was 56,175.

Engine stalled while driving on interstate causing a near-accident. vehicle was successfully restarted shortly thereafter, but after returning home and turning off vehicle, fuel pump continued to run. the following morning the vehicle would not start and had to be towed to chrysler/jeep dealership. dealer repair involved replacing a defective "totally integrated power module" at a cost to me, the owner, of $1,200. this incident very closely mirrors media reports in late september, 2014, detailing similar incidents with the same vehicle. in at least one report (cbs-detroit; sept. 20, 2014; "chrysler recalls nearly 189,000 jeep grand cherokees, dodge durangos") chrysler claims their pending recall will cover suv's built from jan. 25, 2010 through july 20, 2011. my vehicle, exhibiting the exact same malfunctions, was manufactured in november, 2011. clearly the recall should be expanded to capture more vehicles with faulty power modules. *tr
