Jeep will only start with remote starter. push button start does not work. i had the fuel pump replaced however, am just learning of a tipm recall for this model. vehicle was in stationary position in my garage when it would not start.

The 2011 jeep grand cherokee will experience engine stall while the vehicle is in motion, at times in excess of 30 mph. this causes a loss of power steering and power brake functions. it has likewise stalled at stop lights/signals which is equally dangerous when vehicles are approaching from behind at high speeds expecting the vehicle in front to move with the green light. chrysler issued a recall (p54) related to these issues, however the cheap external fuel pump relay wiring harness fix they employed to remedy the problems can be characterized as insufficient at best. in fact, the issues with our family vehicle have actually worsened since the p54 recall was performed in may of 2015. the vehicle's problems have now progressed to the point where the vehicle will not start: a typical symptom of these dangerous jeep/chrysler products. there are literally hundreds of consumer complaints outlining similar issues i.e., the vehicles being difficult to start or not starting at all, vehicles' power windows not operating properly, door locks opening and locking on their own, horn blaring, the vehicle not recognizing the fob, electronic fuel pumps remaining on after the vehicle is shut off and stalling while the vehicle is in motion. a common theme related to all of these issues seems to be the power distribution center for the vehicles or the tipm (total integrated power module). it seems fiat - chrysler has been aware of the problems with their oem manufactured tipm parts for some time, since 2007, but took the woefully inadequate route of correcting only a small and less dangerous issue of the manufacturers defect. hence their court ordered p54 external fuel pump wiring harness, which on a good day will correct the fuel pump run-on. what needs to be addressed is the stalling while in motion issues associated with these vehicles. please mandate a safety recall.

Stalls upon decleration and turning without warning. no log. starts right back up. remotely turns on at random times.

Vehicle had external fuel relay installed over a year ago by dealer. this vehicle had not experienced an issue with the fuel relay. now vehicle is having the same issues - engine stopping for no reason, even while driving - as described in the complaints about the tipm. very dangerous and the "fix" by fca, appears to not be a permanent fix.

Hello nhtsa team, i am writing to you to ask that additional vin numbers be included in an existing recall. the existing recall is p60 / nhtsa 14v-634 for alternator failure. can you please include vin [xxx] into the recall. the alternator in my 2011 grand jeep cherokee, the 160 amp unit will suddenly begin making a very loud whining sound that can be heard loudly from within the cabin of the vehicle and within the engine bay. we have invested a lot of money and time trying to determine what is wrong, only to find out my vehicle is not included in this recall, which we would have been able to put two and two together immediately. chrysler is indicating to us that our vehicles have all of the matching "specifications" to meet the criteria within the existing recall but our vin numbers are not included, therefore they cannot cover the repair. we are continually told that they are not sure why my vehicle is not included as all of the specifications on their end appear to be identical to the specifications outlined in the recall for the failed alternator. the issue is the tell-tail loud whining sound stemming from the alternator and the noise increases in decibels as the rpm increase. please include vin [xxx] in the existing recall. thank you very much. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

The engine shuts off randomly while driving

1. none of the controls on the steering wheel work. i cannot use the controls to change channels on my radio or increase / lower the volume. i cannot use the telephone hands free controls when trying to make a phone call... 2. all of the interior lights inside the vehicle stopped working. regardless of what car door is opened 3. light came on saying traction control was off. the light was a picture of a car with two squiggly lines behind it. i tried pressing the traction control button on the dash board panel alongside the steering wheel heater button. but it would not work. 4. my windshield wipers will not turn off (have to remove the fuse in order to stop the wipers). i tried squirting the windshield washer fluid --- but it will not work. my rear window wiper will not turn on.... even though i tried to turn it on several times. 5. i have no turn signals. they would not come on no matter how many times i flipped the lever up or down. major safety issue 6. my horn does not work - major safety issue 7. my headlights will not go to high beam even though the dial is set to auto. not to mention my windshield was defective and had to be replaced (leaks lots of water when raining) replaced --- steering control module (part # 1he80hl9af) - according to northwest jeep in beaverton oregon that was the issue -not did not fix a single issue totally integrated power module (part # 68244852aa) - according to other complaints, this part also needs replaced (seems that part of th tipm was replaced - the whole unit should have been replaced.) we are extremely upset and displeased with chrysler.... for the poor quality of the parts they used when building my 2011 jeep grand cherokee overland. we bought this 2011 jeep grand cherokee overland in june 2015 and for being 4 years old, it should not being having all these problems!!!

Chrysler recall # p54 regarding totally integrated power module was applied to my vehicle. it totally shut off while driving on 3 separate occasions prior to the so called "fix" via p54. my vehicle shut down while driving home last nite. each time the vehicle has shut down, it has happened whilst breaking and coming to an intersection. this was the same as last nite in which the vehicle shut off while i was cornering through an intersection. battery is fine, fuel is full, i change the oil every 4,000 miles or less and rotate the tires every 6,000 miles. this tipm is a real problem. shutting a vehicle down while motoring is extremely dangerous. i sincerely hope the nhtsa takes action on this before lives are lost. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. when the contact started the vehicle, flames appeared from the roof on the driver side. in addition, the instrument cluster lost power. a fire and a police report were filed. the firefighters sustained injuries while extinguishing the fire, which required medical attention. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 31,000.

Since safety recall p54 was applied, my vehicle has completely died while driving on 5 separate occasions 1 on 19oct, 2on31oct, and 2on7nov. the vehicle is currently at sam lehman chrysler jeep dealership in peoria, il. they claim that i need new software at my expense to address the vehicle shut downs. attached transcript is with chrysler. they do not appear to take this safety issue very seriously.

Vehicle has completely shut down while driving 5 times in the recent past. 1x19 oct; 2x31 oct; 2x7nov. the vehicle completely shuts off while driving. this is very dangerous as all power is lost for breaks, steering, and obviously no acceleration. chrysler safety recall p54 has been applied prior to these issues. dealer and chrysler are charging me customer (at my expense) to flash new software files on the vehicle computers. i sense this is very likely a much broader safety issue and am hoping our government (nhtsa) officials will investigate before someone is injured as a result of this.

10/10/2015 at approximately 320 pm cdt, i was driving i35 south between duluth mn and minneapolis mn. smoke started billowing out of the headliner, rh side above the windshield/sun visor. i pilled to the side of the road, pulled the a pillar and pulled down the headliner. flames were present, i reached in thinking it was a wire (it was) sustained burns on my right hand. grabbed the owners manual , located the fuse for courtesy lights under the hood, pulled the 15 amp fuse (which had not blown). removed the sun visor and vanity light, and associated wiring. fire was extinguished at that point. removed the visor and wiring, found a burned connector and smoldering wiring. grabbed a side cutter and terminated the wiring to the lighted vanity light, after removing the center upper map light assembly. i sustained minor burns right hand (three fingers). vehicle was in motion when fire broke out speed 70 mph. vehicle damage was inspected by duluth jeep, duluth mn. duluth jeep kept the removed parts. recall #36 was accomplished 11/2014 by duluth jeep.

This is the sixth time, today, 9/13/15. i haven't been killed yet, but it's a future possibility. my jeep loses power and will not steer. it happened with my mom and my only child in the jeep. chrysler tells me every time to take it to the local dealer, quirk jeep in marshfield, ma. i do. they run the ever popular 'diagnostics' and find nothing wrong with it. yet, it keeps happening! the last time it happened, i was on the highway during rush hour traffic. state police would not allow me to wait for aaa so i had to pay out of pocket $120 to be towed off the road by some neanderthal in a tow truck. what can i do before i am killed by this vehicle? *the last time it happened was in early august of this year. i contacted jeep with this email and was told to take it in to the dealer for 'diagnostics.' i did and they found no problem again! my jeep is again losing speed and power steering. it is random. i am driving along and it loses acceleration and power steering. i am terrified to drive on the highway expect in the far right lane at minimal speeds. this is a problem because i am a travelling salesperson and must be on the road all day, five days a week. i travel up to 200 miles a day. as i indicated back in december, this is my fifth jeep. quirk says all the recalls on my vehicle have been done and their diagnostics can find no reason for the loss of power. however, it is happening and it is extremely dangerous. originally, when this first started happening, shortly after i bought this pre-owned jeep, i was told the tipm recall would correct these problems. obviously, it has not. *in addition, i have random issues with my key not working or my car refusing to turn on. i am a single mom who has to work. i do not have the financial ability to buy a new vehicle and junk this jeep. i need this vehicle to work as it is supposed to work.

Tipm failed causing car to stall while in motion during rush hour traffic. power steering, power brakes also failed. lastly, power door locks also failed with one year old in the car.

I was driving and my eyes started burning then smoke was coming out of the visor. then there were sparks and small flames from sunroof. it almost caught my hair on fire. i had the recal wiring replaced in july and this happened august 30, after recall completed.

August 29, 2015 i had a tune-up performed on my 2011 jeep grand cherokee overland. when i returned to pick up my vehicle i was informed that when the service advisor was removing the car from the garage a fire started in the interior of the vehicle. the service advisor showed me the interior damage and it was the passenger sun visor. the visor had approximately a quarter size burn mark on the plastic piece covering the vanity mirror and a burn on the head liner directly above the damage on the cover. it was suggested that i take the car directly to the other dealer that had done the p36/nhtsa 14v-391 recall in october 2014 as the dealer that had done the tune up would not fix the damage and would not help with anything. after i inquired about my safety driving the vehicle (at the dealer's suggestion) it was determined that it probably should be towed. i contacted the dealer that had done the recall. the vehicle was left at the dealer and i contacted chrysler for assistance. a case was opened for me. august 31, 2015 the dealer that had done the recall repair contacted chrysler regarding the case and were informed by chrysler that the vehicle was not to be moved until and investigation could be done. september 1, 2015 i sent an email and timeline (to date) to the gm/president of the dealer that performed the tune up. september 2, 2015 i contacted chrysler regarding my case and was informed it was closed. the representative re-opened the case. september 6, 2015 i contacted chrysler regarding my case and was informed it had been assigned and i would need to wait until the assigned agent contacted me. september 8, 2015 to date i have not been contacted by chrysler, the gm/president of the dealership that has the vehicle, i have not been provided any transportation and i have no idea the status of my vehicle.

1. the vehicles head has to be replaced due to bad valves at only 59,000 miles. 2. the front right turn signal stopped working, and is burning the bulb socket and headlight housing. it was determined by an independent mechanic that the tipm module is going bad causing shorts, and other electrical issues. (the dealer claims it is a burned bulb socket, but we tested the socket, and entire system and found the true problem) 3. the horn stops working randomly, and sometimes when it does work its only the high tone. this problem is also traced back to a faulty tipm module.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced an electrical failure and was unable to be started. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v530000 (electrical system). the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed as a failure of the fuel pump relay. the dealer was notified of the failure, however, the vehicle was not repaired for the recall due to lack of available parts. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 56,000.
