Vehicle would die unexpectedly and not restart until transmission was put in park position. several incidents ie stopped at light, acceleration to turnpike, slow street driving this would disable steering and create difficult braking. *tr

I have had an on going electrical problem with my 08 jeep grand cherokee. when i am driving my jeep at various speeds it goes off. it has happened numerous times at different speeds. on the interstate at 55 miles per hour it has gone dead at night and my headlights, dash and steering all goes out. i have had to shift into neutral and restart the car. it has gone off more frequently just driving around town, no warning happens it just dies. i have had my car in the shop several times and their tests show nothing wrong and when they drive it "they say it does not die on them". it is in the shop now again and has not gone off on them. they put a recorder on my car and let me drive it and said if it died to push the recorder button and it would record the incident and they would know what was wrong. it went off 6 times in two days and i pushed the button 6 times. they said they checked the recorder and it showed no incidents!!!! i know this is a safety concern, i guess no one will do anything until there is a fatality. i understand my vin# is not included in the recall for the 2008 jeep electrical problem. i am not sure why. *tr

My engine has shut down and the electrical system powered down while driving many times (more than 60 times in the last 3 years). this has happened at many speeds between 0 (standing still) and 60 mph. when the vehicle shuts down, steering becomes very difficult and brakes work to a minimum. i've taken my grand cherokee to the jeep agency many times, and they keep saying that nothing is wrong with it. only once they told me it was an oxygen censored, which they changed, but the problem persisted constantly. this is a very dangerous situation as the vehicle can become very difficult to control at which speeds i bought my jeep grand cherokee 2008 in mexico city. *tr

While braking going into a right-hand-corner the lights on the dashboard came on and the engine stalled. the vehicle came to an immediate complete stop on the road. luckily there was no car following me as otherwise there would have been a dangerous rear-end collision. could not restart the vehicle. it was taken by truck to the jeep garage. a fuse connected to more than 30 applications had blown. when replaced the car functioned. garage spent 2 days searching but could not diagnose the cause of the problem with the fuse . charged me 300 usd. two days later the engine stalled again while braking in a right-hand-corner. the vehicle has now been in the garage for 2 days for diagnostic testing and further checks. no resolution to the problem has yet been found. the vehicle is 2 years, 7 months old so the repair is not covered by the manufactures warranty. *tr

I have a 2008 jeep grand cherokee that just will not start. not a battery problem. started with windshield wiper problems where the wipers just stayed erect and only worked on high. this happened two times 10/1/2010 and 12/26/2010. always started working again before i could see dealer. always happened when either rain or snow was present causing a danger of collision. on monday 2/28/2011 it just would not start. interior light lit, could not shift into neutral or any other gear. could not get any help or even a call back from dealer, and two corporate managers never returned my call as they promised. when i finally spoke to corperate, both corporate managers were rude and condescending, dealers all going out of business locally in nj but no will confirm that. lots are empty. i found service in another county. he fixed it. he claims it was a wire control module and my key fobs also needed to be reprogrammed. these are identical problems to other complaints filed. similar complaints all over the internet. i know three other people how had a similar experience. one has a 2008 jeep liberty. *tr

Multiple incidents of unintended change in ignition switch position to the off position, resulting in engine shutdown, electrical and power steering completely shutdown/lock. first occurrence (approximately 2010) was during a left-hand turn, which nearly caused a multiple vehicle accident. constant airbag light warning. multiple other occurrences since then, resulting in multiple calls to dealer and contact to 1800 numbers provided. fac p57/nhtsa 14v-567 important safety recall notice received and dealer again contacted. however, i was advised that the ignition is no longer in production and there is no way of knowing if/when the part will become available. accordingly, no repair/remedy can be made. thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

There are two main issues: stalling and no start. stalling issue - vehicle began to stall on 8/9/10 on a random and intermittent basis while driving at varying speeds. the stalling appears to have stopped after the last service was completed on 7/25/11. the following information relates to the stalling issue. each date is separate visit to dealership: 8/13/10 - performed diagnostic test, with no fault codes stored. checked wiring to pdc and front control module. road tested for 55 miles. could not duplicate customer concern. 9/2/10 - replaced wireless ignition node - (due to a bind, stick or seize). 10/27/10 - replaced throttle body. found the throttle body to be binding. 7/25/11 - performed diagnostic test, found a stored code for the crankshaft sensor. could not duplicate concern. replaced sensor. no start issue - this is defined as turning the key to the start position but would not crank. fuel pump would turn on after a few seconds. all electrical systems were fine. battery was full strength. in all of these cases, the car would start up without a problem within 24-48 hours after the no-start incidents. the following information relates to a "no start" issue. each date is a separate trip to the dealership. 5/30/11 - vehicle towed in on saturday. service technician started vehicle up three times on monday. let sit overnight and started right up on tuesday. battery tested fine. no codes in system. 7/25/11 - diagnostic scan, replaced crankshaft sensor (see stalling) 7/26/11 - vehicle towed to dealership. duplicated no-start issue. replaced engine wiring harness. service advisor extremely confident that this was the issue. *after speaking with the service advisor today, he had told me that they had replaced several wiring harnesses on the 2007, 2008 g. cherokees experiencing same issue since my service on 7/26/11. *tr

Owner of 2008 jeep grand cherokee on a regular basis hear a click and the power shuts off. you find yourself with no power steering, no power brakes, and no lights. this also occurs sometimes when you go over a bump or if your knee touches the key ring. the ignition key and mechanisms was replaced in 2010, and this above problem has been occurring off and on since then. in the past two years the occurrence has increased. the technicians can find nothing wrong in the car. chrysler will not admit that the ignition fob and housing is defective, or that their is any problem. this problem is potentially life threatening if it occurs when there is no place to pull over and if hit, air bags will not deploy when the engine is off. *tr

Vehicle shuts down, engine stalls while driving, also does not start or difficulty starting, seems to lack adequate power..after several attempts, will not work properly. let vehicle sit, "cool down", able to start again, system ok..no dashboard system warnings. i was on interstate 81 south and failure happened. also, this same failure occurred at 15,000 miles. todays failure at 30,221 is the second occurrence. vehicle was towed to scranton dodge jeep service tonight. will await vehicle service from dealer. *tr

2008 jeep grand cherokee stalls at high speeds and intermittently while driving. dealer unable to fix thus far ( has car for almost 30 days). in addition, same thing happened on my 2007 model and has happened to a number of people i know with jeep grand cherokees. internet is filed with reports of same events happening at random. mine stalled at 65 mph - all electric, radio, flashers, everything just goes out. very scary and very unsafe. please evaluate. *tr

2008 jeep grand cherokee laredo encountering several problems: the vehicle either won't start or starts then stalls. experienced other problems with complete loss of power while driving on the highway at 60mph. also had loss of blinkers, radio and wipers. the problems have been occurring intermittently since nov, 2009 but becoming more common over last 3 months. current mileage 43k. no codes found on computer for any of the problems. no dash lights when car stalls. it is very scary and certainly a safety issue that needs to be addressed. the earlier recall (h03/ 08v059) is the exact problems but our vehicle is not included in the recall. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated while driving at speeds of 45 mph, the vehicle would stall without warning. the dealer replaced the valves but to no avail. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer but the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure persisted. the manufacturer was contacted but did not provide any assistance. the contact stated the vehicle had been to the dealer five times due to the vehicle stalling. she was able to locate a recall (nhtsa campaign id number 08v059000: electrical system) however, her vin was not included. the vehicle was left in possession of the dealer for further diagnostic testing. the vin was not available at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was approximately 27,000 and the current mileage was 30,800.

2008 grand cherokee 4x4 4.7l flexfuel extremely sluggish on throttle demand (305 hp ???!!!), harsh transmission up/down shift and stalling at highway speeds (four occurrences within five weeks) . the dealership performed the february 2008 recall of the fcm (front control module) after being directed by the customer to do so since the serial # on the module matched the "wrongly manufactured" ones; however, the vin search within chrysler recall database returned empty. evidently, the dealership owning the new vehicle at the date of the recall never performed it (as required by law) . the incident repeated after the replacement of the fcm. the dealership retrieved an abs fault code hence decided that the pcm (powertrain control module) is defective???!!! ( seven days on back order) "lifetime powertrain warranty" seems to be accomplished by ignoring of the driver's safety. the software running on the pcm should never be given the choice of immediately shutting off of the engine especially when the vehicle travels at a high rate of speed. modern steering and braking systems are almost non-operational when there is no available assisting power. *tr

I am filing this now for july 09 due to the same issue that happened yesterday, 4-7-10.. this is not a safe vehicle and jeep needs to fix this problem. it is unsafe when a vehicle gives no warning and completely shuts off on an interstate. also, please see my safety complaint odi # 10324403 for the 4-7-10 incident. in july 09, after going through a toll at exit 67 barneget toll , garden state parkway,nj, i accelerated to the merge point and vehicle shut down and engine stalled and lost power. several attempts to restart didn't work. seems like it shut down electrically and was not getting gas adequately. seems to lack adequate power. attempt to start several times with no luck, engine wouldn't stay running, long start-up inconsistent, dash lights did come on to inform of no power. let sit to cool down vehicle and was able to start and move to a more safer location. this was the first occurrence and the temperature outside was 90 f and sunny. this occurred at 15000 miles in july 09. vehicle went to 3 service visits and dealers could not repeat. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that when driving at various speeds, the interior lighting, exterior lighting, heater/air conditioner, turn signals, and the windshield wipers would fail sporadically. in addition, the contact was attempting a left turn when the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was inspected by the dealer and they were unable to diagnose any of the failures. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 10,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep grand cherokee laredo. while driving approximately 70 mph, all warning lights on the dashboard intermittently flashed and the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to shift into park and restart the vehicle. the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. the failure occurred a second time and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the contact was awaiting further testing of the failure. the failure mileage was 5,000 and the current mileage was 29,000.

2008 jeep cherokee laredo - engine turns off and loose all power without warning - computer and key switch were replaced - filed lemon law did final fix attempt but nothing done since they are unable to duplicate. drive over 100 miles a day - has happened when slowing down for lights or off ramps with out warning. can not make it happen - scary when 18 wheeler behind you and it does happen!!!!! chrysler response vehicle acting normal -its going to take someone killed for them to take this car back! *tr

I was driving my '08 jeep grand cherokee laredo and driving on an on-ramp today to get on the freeway going about 35mph, when all of the sudden i lost all of the electric in my jeep. the radio went out, the odometer and temp/compass went blank, and i lost the power steering. luckily i was able to steer it over to the side. i then turned it off and back on and there didn't seem to be any problems. i drove it another hour and half home and didn't have any other issues. no check engine light or warning lights came on at any time i took it to the jeep dealer, however they claimed they could not find any issues. *tr

The vehicle shut down while driving. i lost power steering & brakes but the radio and ac stayed on. i had to put it in neutral to restart and then continued driving. this has happened many times since then, even after the dealership replaced my key fobs. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 jeep grand cherokee. while attempting to make a left turn at 20 mph, the vehicle stalled in mid turn. the power steering and brakes failed as well. the contact was unable to slow the vehicle down and continued to depress the brake pedal until the vehicle coasted to a complete stop. the contact nearly struck two children and a tree. the vehicle was towed to the dealer, but they could not diagnose the cause of the failure. the contact believes that his vehicle is experiencing the same failure as noted in nhtsa campaign id number 08v059000 (visibility:windshield wiper/washer); however, the manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in the recall. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 10,800 and current mileage was 10,840.

Vehicle shuts off and all electrical and power steering inoperable. shut offs happen intermittently at speeds from 20 mph to 70 mph. it generally occurs upon hitting road bumps, rail road tracks or pot holes. these incidents have happened 4-6 times per year. i have taken the vehicle to chrysler's service engineering garage and suburban chrysler jeep and they are unable to replicate or fix the issue. there have been 2 additional shut off incidents in the past 3 days with 2 different drivers. vehicle will restart upon placing transmission in neutral and restarting. based upon chrysler recall campaign for similar issues with 2007 jeep grand cherokees, i believe my 2008 grand cherokee is subject to the same issues as earlier models. updated 4/24/2015 *js
