I received an 'important safety recall' (p41) in september 2014. the notice indicated that the necessary part was not available and i would receive notice when it was. i have not yet received that notice. i tried calling and was told to hold to speak with a rep - i have held for a very very long time and no one answers. if this is a safety issue, i need it taken care of immediately. my grandchildren will be in that car this summer and i must insist that they be safe. please advise when the necessary part will be available. thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).' *jb

I was driving at highway speed when i accidently touched the key in the ignition switch. the engine died and i coasted to the roadside where i restarted the engine. i had received the recall notice sent by chrysler and had followed the directions contained in the notice, so notified them of the incident. about a month later the same thing occurred but this time i did not touch the key. this time it happened while i was stopped at an intersection and started to accelerate into a turn. the vehicle had just began to move when it died. i restarted the vehicle and completed the trip. i again notified chrysler who directed me to have the switch replaced immediately. the dealer that i was using told me the old model replacement switch was not in stock and unavailable as the new parts had not been produced and he would not attempt to find a replacement. i located a dealer who ordered the old designed part from chrysler stock and replaced it for me. they also instructed me to return when the new parts are available as the work did not satisfy the recall notice. i contacted chrysler some time back to see when newly designed parts would be available and they still had not received them. they also said they had no time frame for the replacement parts. this is the one year anniversary of the problem without resolution, far too long. updated 09/14/15*lj

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. when the key was turned to the on position, the engine failed to start. the vehicle was towed to a dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. the failure recurred multiple times. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system); however, the parts for repair were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 98,000.

While accelerating the vehicle lost power and the prndl lights all illuminated. after a few seconds power resumed. this has happened several times and the check engine light has come on. we have been told its error code u0404 and the electronic shift module needs to be replaced. it appears this is a very common occurrence for this year vehicle. it is a safety concern because if it happened during high traffic times it could certainly cause an accident. *tr

2007 grand cherokee repeatedly lost engine power, power steering and braking. unclear on loss of airbags. vehicle taken to bob caldwell jeep dealership in columbus, oh. we were informed that no recall existed for that year/model. when we returned home we received notification for chrysler regarding details of recall. immediately called dealership and they were like "oh, that recall". they had given us a $4000 quote to repair the problem prior to our bringing the actual recall notification for chrysler. caldwell then told us that no part existed and they couldn't help us. today i contacted chrysler and received a reference #693786. it is supposed to track the non manufactured part when it actually ships at an unknown future date. chrysler is not able to remedy this defect within a reasonable time..at this point actually they cannot fix at any time as part does not exist. this situation puts my family at great risk. chrysler states jeep is safe to drive...let's hope so for our sake. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the service engine soon warning indicator illuminated. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system); however, the dealer refused to schedule an appointment for two weeks due to the volume of repairs that needed to be performed. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 148,000. parts distribution disconnect.

2007 jeep grand cherokee laredo engine stalled out while trying to accelerate when red light turned green. loss of engine power, power steering and loss of braking. received a recall (# p41) for a faulty ignition switch in september 2014 for this problem. engine has been cutting off intermittently since august 2014 while either trying to accelerate from a dead stop or while trying to make a turn. chrysler said to remove any objects from key ring which we have done and the problem persists. we are afraid to drive this car at all. we have been to several jeep dealership mechanics and they say that the problem does not show up on their diagnostic testing so they cannot fix anything until chrysler sends new parts for the recall. have tried to speak with chrysler personnel and am always put on hold for 2 hours at a time!! is chrysler waiting for a tragedy to occur before dispatching the parts to fix this recall?? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the service engine sensor illuminated intermittently on several occasions. the contact also mentioned that while traveling at any speed, the vehicle suddenly hesitated, drastically reduced speed and stalled multiple times. the contact was able to restart the vehicle each time but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to the authorized dealer more than twice and they were not able to replicate or diagnose the failure. the service engine sensor continued to stay lit each time the contact was driving the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who diagnosed that the fuel injectors needed to be replaced and a tune up was required. the vehicle was repaired and the failure recurred with the service engine sensor and the lift gate sensor illuminating. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who replaced the lift gate sensor. also, the dealer replaced the pcm sensor and upon leaving the dealership the failure recurred with the service engine sensor illuminating again. the authorized dealer provided further inspection from two technicians, who were not able to remedy the failure with the service engine sensor. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

I had received a notice in the mail regarding a recall on my jeep. i have called multiple dealerships and have been told that the parts haven't even been distributed yet. when i called again recently i was told the parts weren't even made yet and to make sure nothing heavy was hanging from my keys. use my car everyday and i'm concerned for my safety. there has been multiple times were the car has shut off on my and/ or has had no power to it when driving. i feel as though no one is helping us with this matter. i would like answers instead of being left in the dark. thank you for your time. *tr

I was driving on route 50 going 65mph. this vehicle is a quad 4x4 automatic / stick shift manual, which was in my favor. when i realized the vehicle was shutting down i had to think quickly what my next steps would be. i started to get over to the right side of the road and brake, because the vehicle was shutting down the power brakes where going out and i could not brake completely. the vehicle was still moving and i was about 200 yards away from my exit and the side of the road was winding around toward the off ramp and getting smaller for me to drive on. i realized that i was not able stop the vehicle by using the floor brake then the fear factor set in. in my mind the only thing i can do is pull the stick shift handbrake and quickly put the vehicle in park then i was able to get control and safely stop the vehicle. this ordeal happened at 4:20pm yesterday and by the time we towed the vehicle back to the dealership and tried to explain to the general sales manager, si faige, on site at darcars in new carrollton, md what all transpired on the road in the unsafe vehicle that they sold us, he didn't want to hear any of it. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle began to shake and swerve from side to side uncontrollably. the contact crashed the vehicle into the left expressway wall. the vehicle spun around and crashed into the right side of the expressway wall. the air bags deployed. a police report was filed and no injuries were reported. the failure was due to the engine cylinders misfiring. the vehicle was repaired and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.

Numerous times i've been driving and my car has lost power and i've had to restart the engine. sometimes it takes a while for my car to start on the first turn of the key. the start gets dragged on. sometimes all my check engine lights come on with every other lights as well. several times i have to wait then start the car and it will turn on. besides the car completely turning off while i'm driving, now my car won't turn on at all. the battery is fine. radio and everything turns on. but the ignition won't click over and start my car. so, now i am with no car for work. i called chrysler headquarters for my calls recall back in september and was told they are out of the part they need. my car worked then, just very sketchy, so i was ok waiting, just extremely cautious. now it won't even turn on, i called jeep, they said they are still waitin for the part and all i can do is wait on the list. they won't even give me a loaner since it's a recall issue and not a "service" issue. i have no car, and not the money for a new one, so now i'm at a loss. *tr

The diesel engine jeep put in grand cherokees, the 3.0 litre mercedes-benz engine, has a "swirl valve" problem and has since it turned 75,000 miles. it causes the car to not accelerate properly and is very dangerous when pulling out into traffic and going up hills. it also makes the gas mileage to plummet. repairs were told to me by the dealer to be $5,800. we cannot afford to repair this car. the dealer told us the engine would go 300,000 miles, no problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving 5 mph in a parking lot, the vehicle became very difficult to steer without warning and the vehicle stalled. the contact restarted the vehicle and it resumed normal function. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the contact was made aware of recall nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical). however, the part needed was unavailable to perform the repair. the vehicle had not been repaired. the vin was unavailable. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

Happened 3 times. only ignition key on key ring. car shut off when pushing gas peddle after coming to a stop at a neighborhood stop sign. coasted to other side of intersection, turned off key and restarted. car shut off after pushing gas peddle, making left hand turn after light gave green arrow to enter a freeway on ramp. pulled off to side of freeway ramp turned off key and restarted. car shut off after stopping at an intersection stop sign. after cleaning traffic pushed gas peddle to make a left hand turn onto a busy highway with 50 mph speed limit. car shut off again. was able to coast to shoulder of road avoiding oncoming and approaching traffic. shut off key and restarted. merged into approaching traffic. received recall in sept 2014. have been in contact with chrysler customer service continually. they continue to advise they have no parts to repair recall defect and therefore cannot make a recall repair appointment. i feel they are playing russian roulette with my life and those of others on the road who may strike my disabled car after ignition shut off.

In may of 2014 i replaced my starter because when i would attempt to start my vehicle it would crank but the engine would not turn over. the condition persisted even after putting on an new starter. i eventually went to a jeep dealer and they were unable to remedy the problem. i received a recall notice from chrysler about p41/nhtsa 14v-438 recall but was not given a time frame as to when i would be able to take the vehicle in for servicing. in the meantime i continue to drive the one vehicle and it has continued to not start in instances when i need it most. it has done so while my wife had the vehicle which has caused me great distress as she was alone and panicked when it happened. the vehicle does start eventually after about 20 minutes or so. this is unsafe and unacceptable. we spoke to a representative at the dealership where the vehicle was purchased and she told us she could not say when the part would be available. she went on to say we could wait it out or trade it in and basically tack on the amount owed on to the purchase of another vehicle. this is not an option. this situation is very inconvenient as i use the vehicle primarily to commute to work and if unable to drive to work our household income will take a huge blow. we seek remedy. As i was driving the truck jerked real hard which almost knocked the wind out of me and i lost control of steering, speed, i was unable to start the truck. i had to make my way to the shoulder in morning traffic on the highway to put the car in park and turn the ignition off and start it over again i had to do this 2 times before it started. proceeded to get back into traffic and it jerked again this time it stopped running and started clicking all by itself until i stopped the truck and turned it off and started it again. this is not the first time this has happened and it very dangerous and from the looks of things this is a ongoing problem with this model & year jeep. *tr

My husband and i were traveling to charleston, sc on i-26 to have a nice valentine's weekend. everything was fine until we merged onto i-26 in columbia, sc, when we felt a small jolt in the truck like it was hesitating or something. so we dismissed it as maybe bad gas or something. it happened a couple more times and as we were passing a rest area outside of orangeburg, sc in the left lane going with the flow of traffic at about 80 mph, the whole truck just shut down. no power steering and the car will not crank in neutral. traffic is pretty heavy on a holiday weekend, and i have tractor trailer beside me and behind me on a two lane interstate. trying not to panic, i put on the hazard lights and waving out the window like crazy trying to get these truck driver's attention, thank god they noticed and the one beside me sped up and my husband was able to get over by the exit of the rest area. after thanking god for our lives, we decided to try and make it to a dealership in orangeburg. we get there, and after 2 hours they say it was the throttle body and a tune up $300 bucks and another 2 hours we finally got on our way. we made it to charleston and salvaged a pretty good day trip considering what we went through, with no problems. it jolted once on the way back about 40 miles from home. so the next day i remembered we had gotten a letter from chrysler, and when we looked at it we realized that the recall was the real problem. this letter came in september of 2013, and we have not heard anything from them since then, almost 2 years later. also, you would think that a jeep dealer would know about recalls on all of the vehicles they sell when they put the vin in the system. now we just use the one key, stay close to the right lane and hope for the best. another car/payments is not an option.

Car stalled while traveling on highway at 65mph with light throttle. electrical systems stayed on, engine cut out with no warning. when the engine stopped a single alert chime sounded. the car was maneuvered to the shoulder. placed the vehicle in park and restarted by turning off, then on. started on first attempt. this is the first stall i have encountered after purchasing the jeep 1 month ago. the engine has stuttered a couple of times at highway speeds with the alert chime sounding once each time, but the engine restarted within a second and continued going. *tr

I took ownership of the vehicle in december 2013. while driving, the vehicle engine has suddenly shut down on three separate occasions. the first time was in january 2014 in heavy highway traffic near colorado springs at about 50mph. i was able to move to the shoulder and turned the key off then restarted the engine. there seemed to be no adverse effects thereafter so i thought it was a random event. then one week later driving on a lightly trafficked highway in wy at about 60mph, with the cruise control engaged, the engine again suddenly shut down and again i was able to steer to the shoulder and switched the ignition off and then restart it. when i returned home i had my local mechanic check the vehicle over and had him check the computer for faults. after the checkup i thought the issue was settled. then in march driving down a winding mountain road near boise id the engine again suddenly shut down and i steered to the road side where i switched the ignition off and then restarted it. there after i read about this issue concerning some jeep models. i put my vin number in the jeep website and it said there were no recalls for it. i will take it to the dealer in hopes there is a resolution for this seemingly chronic serious problem. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving 75 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the contact did not take the vehicle to the dealer or mechanic for a diagnostic test. the failure mileage was 82,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate and went into limp mode. the vehicle was not diagnosed but the contact personally replaced the electronic shift module. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 57,000.

Same description as many other consumers. slow, rough acceleration at all times. very difficult to accelerate especially when entering freeway. need to pull over on ramp and turn off vehicle in hopes that restart will help. vehicle will stall while driving on freeway. just completely shuts down. very dangerous for driver and those around driver. have to attempt to get to side of road and turn off vehicle and hope that upon restart vehicle will improve. too many complaints over the years have gone unheeded and an immediate recall needs to be done before serious injuries or deaths occur. *tr

I had been driving for maybe 8 minutes at 55 mph when suddenly the vehicle jumped, stalled and lost power. after gliding to the side of the road, i made 3 attempts to restart in park. it would not restart. after waiting several minutes the car did restart. all of this while people are passing at 60 mph on a two lane road!! the vehicle is not registering any codes!! *tr

Had the transmission warranty recall update done, now i am getting a "service 4wd" light. in doing research this is very common on jeep's who had the recent warranty update. jeep needs to correct this problem. in some cases dealers are replacing actuators under warranty and in some not. my dealer, ed tomko jeep in avon lake, ohio, would like to charge me to take a look at it. chrysler/jeep needs to pay to correct this problem. *tr

The vehicle would just suddenly shutdown, i bought the vehicle used just a few days before the incident but driving to different state. since then, it has stalled several times and i have taken it to the dealer and since there is no engine check light, dealer says they cannot find the problem. it would stall at any speed, temperature or any condition. i am afraid that it may stall at the wrong place at the wrong time. although it would start right away but sometimes it take 3-4 times to turn over. i hope chrysler would find a fix for this. *tr

The truck is a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. once again as i was driving my vehicle shut down (jerked real hard) and i lost all driving capability etc power steering, speed control. . . . . i was driving on the freeway when my jeep shut down it was during morning rush hour traffic. it was hard for me to glide over to the shoulder when everyone around you is going 60 mph and you have no power steering. when i was able to get to the shoulder i placed the jeep in park and turned the vehicle off and removed the key and put the key back in and it started right up. this has been happening everyday now and why searching the internet i've ran across on here and elsewhere that i am not the only one having problems like this with my year and make. it is really dangerous and im surprised there hasn't been a recall yet or a terrible possible fatal accident due to the vehicle being non responsive in fast heavy traffic. this engine shut off without warning. i've noticed this happens when it is real cold outside. *tr

I purchased my jeep a little over a year ago used. i have had numerous problems since i have purchased it. first it was thought to be an electrical problem since the car would randomly shutter, would not want to start or just turned off. battery was replaced multiple times, since it would leave stranded at any given time. the engine light comes on, but there has not been a solution to what it can be. i feel very unsafe in my car, and i am not sure what to do at this point. when i turn the car on, there is a loud hum or propelling sound coming out of the engine. when i come to a stop you can feel the car shake when the noise happens. *tr

Normal driving conditions on road and jeep totally dies, no power at all, this has happened twice. two other instances the jeep loses power and slows down on the highway and in heavy traffic. i have contacted my jeep dealer more than once, with no satisfaction. *tr

While vehicle is in motion a front dashboard lights would flash for a while and suddenly goes dark including head lights and brake lights. this is not in any correlation with weather, temperature or road conditions. this has been happening randomly and due to safety concern we no longer use the vehicle for a family trip and we do not use the vehicle at night since all electrical components goes off while it is in motion. per online search it appears there are numerous jeep owners experiencing the similar malfunction. this is a very serious safety issue, so why the manufacturer has not issued a recall to have this repaired? *tr

While i am driving my jeep will buck and shut down. i then had to make my way over to the side of the road on the highway while cars are going 65mph or greater and my speed is slowing down. when i was able to pull over and stop. i had to remove the key and place the car in park before it would start. the first few times i tried while in neutral and moving to the side of the highway it would just continue to click and keep clicking. this has been happening several times a day now and my route to work is 95% highway. it is scary that someone might hit me and cause a terrible accident. i noticed this has happened to several jeeps around the world with the same issue. i noticed a recall for the jeep going into neutral but nothing about this major issue about the car bucking and stalling while driving. i noticed my jeep had its ignition switch changed out some time ago also. i wonder if he had problems before he traded. i have no other car to drive or i would and i have spent over $500 trying to find out what the issue is. please start investigating before someone gets hurt. *tr

The engine stalled while at cruise speed (not accelerating) and with no warning. there was 1/2 tank of gas; the mil did not illuminate. upon loss of engine power, all power assist systems (e.g.: brakes, steering) ceased to operate. i successfully restarted the vehicle by shifting into neutral and turning the key as far toward "off" as is possible when the vehicle is not in park. on the second attempt, the vehicle restarted with no mil illumination. *tr

When driving the vehicles engine will shut off without warning or reason. it happens very randomly.

While at a stop light, the engine stalled and produced a mil reading. codes p0129, p0688, p0884 were stored, but cleared upon the next cycling of the ignition. the vehicle would not restart until a full power-off cycle (in park). attempts to restart while in neutral resulted in the engine turning over and immediately killing. *tr

As i was driving my car jerked real hard and all my dash lights came on and my ability to drive my car was useless. my jeep slowed down on the freeway during morning rush hour traffic almost causing several accidents. as i was trying to restart my jeep it just keep making a clicking noise and wouldn't stop. i had to pull the key from the ignition and reinsert the key and try to start the jeep. after 3 tries it started and i went to drive off and as i was accelerating my jeep did it again finally it stayed on and i was able to drive to a safe location. my jeep sounded real strange not like normal. this is the 7 th or 8th time this has happened since i had my jeep not even a year to date. *tr

Cruising along at 60mph suddenly had reduced power, vehicle would not go more the 40mph, this has happend twice since. pulled to the side of the road, turned off vehicle, restarted, and was back to normal. *tr

Once again as i was driving my vehicle shut down (jerked real hard) and i lost all driving capability etc power steering, speed control..... i was driving on the freeway when my jeep shut down it was during morning rush hour traffic. it was hard for me to glide over to the shoulder when everyone around you is going 60 mph and you have no power steering. when i was able to get to the shoulder i placed the jeep in park and turned the vehicle off and removed the key and put the key back in and it started right up. this has been happening everyday now and why searching the internet i've ran across on here and elsewhere that i am not the only one having problems like this with my year and make. it is really dangerous and im surprised there hasn't been a recall yet or a terrible possible fatal accident due to the vehicle being non responsive in fast heavy traffic. *tr

While coming to a stop at a light, the engine stalled. the mil illuminated, but cleared upon the next power-on cycle, so no codes could captured; subsequent reads revealed no stored codes. restart required the vehicle to be in park; attempts while in neutral resulted in the engine turning over, but immediately dying. *tr
