Recently reported STRUCTURE problems on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My door handles have all broken within the first 3 years of owning my car and luckily i had a warrenty. now they are broken again.this is a huge safetly issue for my child in the back seat who cant get out for school and if i were in an accident he would not be able to get out of the car. not happy that there is no recall to protect jeep customers.

Slowly pulling up to a food mart, i applied brake to come to a normal stop. jeep slowed slightly for a brief moment, then suddenly and powerfully accelerated approx. 3 feet forward into the building while my foot remained firmly on the brake, causing damage to both vehicle and storefront. a dangerous design flaw, this is the 2nd time the accelleration problem it has occurred (local authorized dealer thought it was fixed). i've since found many instances online with other jeep owners experiencing the same exact thing - some of which resulted in fatalities. the cause of this accident was total brake failure, and sudden unintended accelleration (sua) - an issue which former connecticut attorney general (and current senator) has urged general motors to address on numerous occasions.

Takata recall...all four inside door handles are broken, and the right rear won't open from the inside. this is a safety issue. my daughter was sick and she was trying to get out of the car but couldn't open the door. we were parked at the time.

I purchased a used said vehicle n first week had a/c going off n on returned several times to be repaired. same problem warranty ran out after 60 days..got diagnostic from advanced auto code stated misfired cylinders...returned again claim they would fix after this i would have to pay...currently rumbling noise from back of my car took to williamston auto repair got diagnostic on lift was told had four misfired cylinders n that car has been sitting in water. rust all around entire car to touch pieces falls off and rust inside car.mechanic stated this must be a flood car.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at unknown speeds, the contact looked through the rearview mirror and noticed metal debris falling from underneath the vehicle. the contact pulled the vehicle off the roadway to inspect underneath it and noticed that the skid plate under the fuel tank was bent and rotting away. the contact mentioned that the vehicle was previously at the dealer (bob richards chrysler dodge jeep ram 1666 jefferson davis hwy, graniteville, sc 29829 (855) 984-5458) for power steering replacement and transmission inspection. while the vehicle was on the lift for the transmission inspection, the dealer's mechanic noticed that the skid plate was damaged, which could have been a fire hazard with a fuel leak. the vehicle was taken back to bob richards chrysler dodge jeep ram (1666 jefferson davis hwy, graniteville, sc 29829 (855) 984-5458) where it was diagnosed that the skid plate was gone and needed replacement. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for repairs due to the less expensive cost. the contact also stated that the vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system), but the failure continued and the ignition would inadvertently turn. the vehicle was not diagnosed. the contact believed that the failure was related to the wiring harness and not the ignition switch. when the vehicle was started and the engine was turned off, it restarted itself seconds later. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but did not offer any assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 152,000.

Inner interior inside door handles cracked making the door inoperable from the interior. my nine year old daughter closed the door with regular force and the inner door handle cracked. upon trying to open the door, the plastic completely broke making the door inoperable. this trapped her inside and prevented her from exiting. on a separate occasion, another inner door handle broke on the same vehicle and cut my hand on the sharp plastic as i tried to open the door. this would be a serious issue in an emergency. all 4 are now cracked or broken with no evidence of excessive use or improper use. no excessive impact to the inner door handles has ever been noticed. this is a common problem reported by many jeep owners on jeep forum websites.

Three of the four door handles on the interior have broken, only the driver door handle works and in an emergency no passengers will be able to get out without assistance from outside.

All 4 interior door opening handles cracking/breaking/failing: 2 rear door handles totally inoperable. driver's side handle almost completely fallin into door fram due to cracked casing. this is a jeep- these are the last things that should fail this in what is supposed to be a rugged vehicle ***this is a dangerous safety issue ' if handles break or are inoperable in certain emergency situations, passengers may not be able to exit the vehicle, causing serious injury or death!*** manufacturer charge to replace/repair handles is prohibitively expensive: in my case, the cost of eight (8) monthly car payments! manufacturer safety recall warranted!

The two interior back door handles broke. my two grandsons, ages 6 and 9, are the only people riding in the backseat and they did not mistreat them. they each broke about at the same time. when i was reading online about what to do, i saw that a huge number of other jeep grand cherokees were having the same problem. if we were in an emergency situation where we need to vacate the vehicle immediately. they would be trapped. *tr

'all 4 interior door opening handles breaking/failing: 1 rear door totally inoperable. ***this is a dangerous safety issue ' if handles break or are inoperable in certain emergency situations, passengers may not be able to exit the vehicle, causing serious injury or death!*** manufacturer charge to replace/repair handles is prohibitively expensive:

All 4 interior door opening handles breaking/failing: 1 front drivers door completely cracked and falling apart. front right passenger completely inoperable. you must roll down window and open door from outside. passenger rear door totally inoperable. drivers side rear door also cracked and falling apart.***this is a dangerous safety issue ' if handles break or are inoperable in certain emergency situations, passengers may not be able to exit the vehicle, causing serious injury or death!*** manufacturer charge to replace/repair handles is prohibitively expensive. manufacturer safety recall warranted!'

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the plastic housing that supports the chrome latch for all four doors had fractured causing the latches to hang unsecured to the doors. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who indicated that the interior door assembly would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 58,000. the vin was not available. updated 06/14/16*lj

Takata recall - airbags did not deploy when the jeep had a head to tail collision.

All four of my door panels have cracked/disintegrated behind the door handle. august 1, the drivers door handle is now non functional requiring the lowering of the window to exit vehicle. this would be a safety hazard in a crash. dealer states all door panels must be replaced at part cost of $450 each (install extra) - this is obviously a defect given that all four doors have done this and there are many internet threads about the issue.

All 4 interior door opening handles breaking/failing: 2 rear door totally inoperable. ***this is a dangerous safety issue ' if handles break or are inoperable in certain emergency situations, passengers may not be able to exit the vehicle, causing serious injury or death!*** manufacturer charge to replace/repair handles is prohibitively expensive

My car ignition inadvertently turned off and disabling power steering, brake etc. this resulted in the driver not being able to control the keep. the jeep rolled down the hill and hit the car behind and damaging both the cars and injuring one of the passengers in the car behind.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. in addition, water leaked into the vehicle and the contact noticed moisture on the front passenger side floorboard. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired due to part unavailability. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system). the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

2006 jeep grand cherokee. consumer writes in regards to vehicle recall notice. *smd the consumer was informed the parts were not available. *jb

All 4 interior door opening handles broke: 1 rear door totally inoperable. ***this is a dangerous safety issue ' if handles break or are inoperable in certain emergency situations, passengers may not be able to exit the vehicle, causing serious injury or death!*** manufacturer charge to replace/repair handles is prohibitively expensive:. this is a well known safety issue. where is the recall?

The door handle has broken on the driver side of my jeep making it difficult to open the door.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the rear doors failed to open from inside the vehicle. the dealer was notified of the failure, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact also received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system), but the part was not available for an extended period of time. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available. parts distribution disconnect.

Passenger rear door handle broken off due to cheap, defective plastic the door panel is made of. upon further inspection, all 3 of the other doors have the same cracks in the door panel - it is only a matter of time before the plastic on those cracks and chips off, and those door handles also break off. you can not open the door from the inside once the handles break off - this is a defect in the doors. this is not a result of wear and tear on a vehicle that had less than 50,000 miles when we purchased it. i have never owned a vehicle where broken door handles are considered normal "wear and tear". the cost of repair is $600-$700 per door panel - chyrsler needs to own the fact that these parts are defective and cover the cost for their owners. there are many, many posts on the internet regarding this issue from hundreds of jeep owners - it is inexcusable. Broken car door handle/panel on both the front driver and passenger doors. driver side is getting so bad, i am concerned and nervous that any day now, i won't be able to open door from inside the vehicle. brought it to a local jeep dealership approximately 6 months ago when i first noticed this and was informed this issue is not covered under "extended warranty" and cost would be over $1000 to replace entire door panel and that's just for one door. except for this issue which is beyond my control, i keep my vehicle in excellent condition and it has very low miles, but the unsightly door handle/panels just makes the appearance of my jeep look like trash besides the fact that this is now becoming a safety issue. *tr

Three of four door handles have broken, first two being rarely used doors. this is a flaw and safety hazard. cost to repair extremely expensive from manufacturer. *tr

When exiting vehicle, driver side door handle fell off, making the door inoperable. *tr

We own a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. when we start the vehicle, for about the first 20 minutes of driving, the vehicle will shut off multiple times when driving slow or coming to a stop. my wife was coming home from work and she was leaving the parking garage she parked at for work. when she was driving up the ramp to exit the garage, the jeep shut off on her and it rolled backwards down the ramp into a building support pillar. this caused damage to the back bumper and taillight. we were lucky nobody was hurt or behind her when this happened. when i drive the jeep it seems like it happens more often. when i leave for work in the morning and arrive at the first stop light, the jeep will shut off. sometimes it turns green at the same time so i have to shift back to neutral to start up, making some people miss the green. when i leave work to head home, every time i pull up to the gate to leave, it shuts off. it jumps forward when it shuts off, sometimes i feel like i will hit the gate (have to get close to gate in order for scanner to read garage access pass). please make a solution for this recall as it is very dangerous and we got lucky with just a minor accident so far. *tr

All of my interior door handles have cracked to some extent. two have been replaced already. one handle is broken to the point where the door cannot be opened from the interior which creates a safety hazard. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v483000 (structure); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure.

All four door handles on my 2006 jeep laredo had broken for no reason. jeep had been contacted numerous times via chat and phone to no avail. this issue was originally addressed at an original complaint submission dated back a year ago but the issue on the door handles was never addressed. this vehicle is used to carpool kids to/from school and about two weeks ago, a friend of my daughter's had hurt (pinched) his hand trying to exit the vehicle. this may seem to be a small matter, but as a parent driving kids to/from school and school events, i cannot just wait for an "emergency" to occur before taking action. this may not be electrical or engine related but as i see it, doors are used to exit the vehicle and in the event that there's an emergency, i would like to think that my family (and other passengers) can safely exit the vehicle. as stated in the original statement/complaint, i have had to let my daughter get out of the car by opening the passenger side door for her. these handles should not have broken due to its normal use but because of a defective or lower quality item used for these door handles, it is now a safety hazard. this has been a known issue on these jeeps and i would really appreciate if your office could review this issue with chrysler/jeep as such equipment/item should not have passed quality inspection. thank you very much in advance, and i can only hope that this be resolved as soon as possible. *tr

The housing surrounding the front driver and passenger interior door handle has cracked and broken away resulting in compromised exit from the vehicle. this is a very common issue among 2005-2010 jeep grand cherokee vehicles and should be recalled buy chrysler. the 5-6-2014 date is when the passenger door occurred which resulted in me inspecting my driver side showing the driver side was severely compromised. *tr

The passenger side door handle has broken completely due to the collapse of stress cracks in the plastic. the fracture caused a minor laceration on my right hand. the same incident happened a few days later to the right rear door and i noticed that the remaining doors have major stress cracks in the same place and are not safe to operate. we must open the window to operate the outside handles to exit the automobile. if an accident occurs all passengers ,especially children and those unable to reach the outside handles quickly, would be at serious risk of injury or death. i talked to the dealer and to a chrysler representative and was told they were not aware of the safety problem and did not offer any helpful solution other than to replace the four door panels at my expense. i will have to do the repairs because of the high risk to my family however it is not fair that a large company in the us can ignore such a major safety risk to it's customers. hopefully an accident does not happen, particularly affecting children or seniors, before they seriously address the defect. this is obviously a serious safety issue and based upon the number of concerns raised throughout the internet it definitely affects many people. i believe it is the responsibility of the nhtsa to protect us from large companies that knowingly place us in a serious safety situation. please do what's right and issue a safety recall in order to keep us safe. *tr

My daughter was trying to exit the vehicle and the door handle broke off. i have seen numerous posts on the internet describing the same problem. this is a serious safety hazard in the event of an accident or other emergency requiring quick exit from the car. the door must now be opened from the outside. this could result in a person being trapped in the vehicle unnecessarily. there needs to be a recall to have these defective parts replaced by jeep. *tr

Inside door handle on front door and back door is broken there is no reason for this other then it being cheap. i do not under stand why nhtsa has left this very bad safety problem go for so long . it may look as though they are in jeeps pockets its ok for jeep to charge 500 for a new panel right the consumer is getting the short end of it here or there waiting for someone to panic and have a heart attack because i can't get out of the vehicle but i'm just saying and obviously this is been going on well before the 2006 jeep i have and ooooooooooooo still no help *tr

All of the interior door handles are becoming non-operative. the plastic that they mount to is brittle and cracks very easily rendering the door handle inoperable. *tr

I have a 2006 jeep grand cherokee, all four door handles have cracks around the plastic. my back passenger door handle has actually come off. i am concerned for obvious safety issues. once you are in the car you cannot exit through that door. i only became aware of the situation in december 2013. when the rear door handle fell off. i contact the chrysler corporate immediately, and they told me to go through the dealership. after weeks of going back and forth they finally agreed to pay only one third of the total cost. i believe this is a defect on their part, and should be responsible for 100% of replacement. i also understand from the dealership that this is a very frequent issue with this model. *tr

Car will pop out of gear and into neutral while driving at speeds under 60mph. car has been owned by me since it had 9000 miles and has been serviced regularly and is a low mileage car. desintegrating door panels, issues with transmission that could cause loss of control in traffic, what next. chrysler maintains that there are no recalls for these known safety hazards. crazy. updated 2/25/2015*js

My passenger was getting out of car, opened the and all the plastic around the doorhandle crack, which now is a safety issue because cant use the handle to open the door, incase of an accident passenger is unable to exit, i am single with no children so the other doors aren't hardly used, there is no reason it should be weak, so i called the chrysler group to inquire about another recall i received, and mentioned this to them, they told my jeep wasn't in the recall, but have the dealer check the door, when i take it in for the other issue, and have them diagnosis it, to see if its a manufacturing defect...which i asked if it is will it be paid for, they couldn't answer, they kept saying, maybe they could cost assist me...i don't understand there are so many complaints with this issue, plus its a safety concern, because most aren't paying to get it fixed, well i have appointment next week ..i let everyone know how it turns out..my jeep only has 75,000miles on it. The rear door handle broke off. the other 3 handles have cracks in the cheap plastic. passengers cannot get out of the vehicle without someone opening the door from the outside. this is a safety hazard and i fear that in an emergency, this easy fix could cost someone's life. jeep does not recognize this as a problem and does not offer a recall. after doing some research, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of other jeep owners that have had the same problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the interior door handles failed and could not be opened from the inside. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 64,194.

The rear door handle on the drivers side broke. it cracked and the problem now is you cannot open the door. this is a definite safety hazard. the replacement part is $530 or you can get a kit for $150. the installation is $102. why would there be a kit being produced if there wasn't a major problem? i spoke to chrysler customer care and they will not do anything. there are numerous complaints on the internet regarding this issue on the 2005 and 2006 jeep grand cherokees. from what i heard from fields in sanford the dealer the manufacturer sold inferior parts. right now only one door is broken but i expect it will happen to the other 3. that particular door is rarely used so it was obviously defective. any help you can give me would be appreciated. *tr

Interior door handles are cracked and starting to break. contacted jeep and they indicated that it is acknowledged as a weak component and that in some instances has been replaced. however, because of the age of my car, they refused to replace it as a warranty item. i emphasized on the safety aspect of passengers being trapped inside my car but they just indicated that there is nothing that they can do about it. *tr

The driver side interior door panel cracked where it is attached to the door and the handle falls off, leaving the driver unable to exit the vehicle without assistance. this occurs with normal use, no abnormal use or abuse. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warnings. also, the contact mentioned that the driver's side door handle became fractured and all of the remaining door handles were cracked. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the door panel needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure and the current mileage was 69,000.

Interior door handles breaks, brittle plastic, becomes inoperative. safety hazard - unable to exit vehicle! just like the plastic dodge used on the 2001 p/u trucks. jeep does not offer replacement handles only ($25eh), but they do sell complete door panel ($800eh)

The rear driver side interior door panel cracked where it is attached to the door and the handle falls off, leaving the rear passenger unable to exit the vehicle without assistance. this occurs with normal use, no abnormal use or abuse. *tr

I just recently purchased a 2006 jeep grand cherokee for over $14,000. within the first month before i have even made my first payment 3 of the 4 interior door handles have broken. i went back to the dealer and was told this is an issue that has to be taken up with the manufacturer. after coming home and doing research on the internet i have seen endless complaints of this happening, but yet nothing has been done to correct this safety hazard by chrysler. imagine for a moment your in an accident and are unable to open your car door to free yourself, or even worse your child. i cannot imagine this is an issue that chrysler would not take care of. for all three handles to break at once is unbeivable and for chrysler to feel they do not owe the consumer a recall to rectify this situation is mind boggling. i personally have called and voiced my opinion and was told to fix it myself. believe me i will be going to my lawyer in the morning to see what needs to be done to file a class action suit against chrysler and to also have documentation that i have voiced my concern about this safety hazard to no avail. *tr
