Once before the jeep seemed to accelerate suddenly. today as i was maneuvering to enter my garage the car leaped out of control. i didn't know if the accelerator had stuck, if the brake had failed to work, or if there was a problem as i changed gears to maneuver. i threw the car into another gear and that stopped the problem. it was extremely frightening. this is my third jeep in a row. i have been driving them (and only them ) since 1992. i am very familiar with them. i am calling the dealership to ask that they examine the vehicle. something is very wrong. ps-the computer will not allow me to submit this report unless i say that my jeep grand cherokee is a "scrambler" or a "wrangler", so i have to say it is one or the other although it is not! *jb

I have a 2004 jeep grand cherokee and when travelling in cruise control at 55 mph and start up a steep grade, the transmission will shift out of overdrive into 3rd gear, then immediately shift into 2nd gear. this happens everytime this situation occurs. when this shiifing occurs the engine rpm goes from about 1600 rpm to 4000 rpm. if the road were not totally dry or if you approach a curve when this happens a person could easily lose control of the vehicle. i have taken the vehicle to the dealer on 6/30/2004 and the service manager told me this is normal.*ak
