i was driving down the highway and my drivers window gradually started sliding down . at the time i was running the air condition .and the window started slowly coming down . by the time i got home the widow was completely down . my husband tried to pull it back up and as he did this the window broke right into his hands and all over the seat of the car. and i was told by another jeep owner that she had a recall on her jeep . i was just wondering if there was a recall for it? *tr

Lift within window broke spontaneously while driving approximately 20 mph. window would not stay up and cables needed to be replaced. approximately 5-6 months later, a second window had the same issue this time while parked-another needed to be replaced. on 10/20/2013 the same issue happened to a third window while in reverse pulling out of driving going no more than 2 mph-another needs to be replaced. i was informed it is a common problem but that there is no recall so they can't do anything about it at this time. *tr

Window dropped while vehicle was parked and would no longer roll up....pulled it up and taped it.....took to jeep dealership.....total cost to repair is $650.00..... same problem happened 4 years ago, but vehicle was under warranty at that time. i guess this is a common problem with grand cherokee laredo jeeps. mine is a 2004. a recall should be made on this plastic clip fault!!!!! *tr

2004 jeep overland duel climate control not operating properly *tr

I have had to replace all 4 window regulators because of a defect. it has cost me over $1200.00 for all 4 to be replaced over time. it seems strange to me that all 4 have had to be replaced and the part cost over $325.00 just for the parts not counting the labor . the window just suddenly falls down and will not stay rolled up. i purchased this car brand new and it has been taken very good care of. i would like to be re-imbursed for all of my expensed considering this cannot be a fluke since all 4 have had to be replaced and no one ever sits in the back so it has not been worn out from use. please let me know what can be done about this problem. the dealer said this is just and issue with jeeps and they always keep a large amount of regulators on hand. i think this is just a way for jeep to make money on parts and this should not be allowed to continue since the parts are just a piece of plastic and cost over 300.00 per window and we have to have our windows fixed. i would like to be contacted to see if i can pursue a claim to be re-imbursed from jeep. *tr

2004 jeep grand cherokee window regulators have had to replace all at least once front driver's side (3) times front passenger side (2) times only 77,000 miles on vehicle. *tr

Blend doors continues to run after car has been turned off. *tr

We have a 2004 jeep grand cherokee that has had an ongoing failure in the air conditioning system. over 10 times the vehicle has been into 2 different dealership repair facilities to correct the problem and there has been numerous parts replaced (blending doors, valves etc) and the failure is still there. the a/c system does not produce air at the temp that is selected, and most of the time will blow hot on one side and cold on the other or the other way around. the last time it was in the dealership the manager said they could find nothing wrong, and when my wife drove the vehicle with the manager, there was burning hot air coming out of the vent, the manager said that was normal. nothing they have done has fixed the problems and we are ready to sue them to recoup our money. *tr

Failure of heating system components - blend doors. regardless of temperature selected and fan output, design flaw in blend doors of heating system can result in no heat including no way to defrost / defog the front windshield, impeding driver's ability to see in cold weather. faulty plastic parts break. apparently this is a widespread problem with many jeep models / years but no recall ever issued. cost in excess of $1,500 to repair estimated. *tr

Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower cold air blowing from my vents uncontrollably from passenger side. loud creaking sound coming from underside of ventilation? creaking from the dash seconds after shutting the engine off? as a result the defrosters on a car do not work. [xxx]at jerry toyota said he fixed it when i brought it in jan. however, it broke a week later. he has refused to get it fix. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Blend doors not functioning correctly, dual zone climate controls failing. *tr

While driving windshield began leaking at the top. took the vehicle to glass repair company. entire windshield was loose and could have fallen off at any time. removed the windshield, cleaned the affected area and replaced the windshield. *tr

The hvac system of the 2004 jeep grand cherokee (dual climate zone) fails after a short period of time prompting expensive repairs. the hvac system will blow ambient outside air on one half of the car. if it's hot outside, hot air, not ac, will blow on the passenger side. cold air in the winter. *tr

The window regulator keeps failing in the rear passenger window. it can be rolled down but won't go back up. the most recent time, a 6 year old was in the rear passenger seat and pushed the window button we heard a loud pop and the window dropped in the door. it will not come back up. to replace this part is $400+ and the mechanic said that he sees this problem all the time in '00-'05 jeep grand cherokees. *tr

2004 jeep grand cherokee limited - passenger side front power window stopped working. also blower on heating/ac unit works intermittently. *tr

1. there was a creaking sound coming from under the dashboard from the ac of my 04 grand cherokee limited after turning the engine off. 2. it started occurring right around the 50k miles. 3. i was given an estimate, the most expensive being $1500 to replace the blend doors which included removing the dashboard to repair them. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the driver side window opened and fell into the door panel without engagement. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where she was advised that the window regulator would need to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the exact same failure recurred on the front passenger window within months. the passenger window was replaced by the dealer. the failure mileage was approximately 67,590.

2004 jeep grand cherokee ltd overland window on front passenger side, suddenly fell down into door. (they are electric windows.) away from home and female, inclement weather, and unable to lock car to secure while doing business in an area that was not very safe. sits on plastic track and napa said it is a known occurrence, replaced with metal track. two months later the same thing happened to the drivers window, parked for event came out that window is half way down. had guest traveling with me 30 had to drive 30 miles at night on freeway, inclement weather with window down. just waiting for the back windows to fall into door, will replace when i can afford to. this is definately a manufactures defect.*tr

Defect with motor and regulators in windows. *tr

2004 jeep cherokee blend doors. i have to use a towel while driving to wipe the interior windshield since my defroster has gone bad. why does chrysler not cover this as i consider that to be a major safety issue. *tr

There is creaking from the dash seconds after shutting the engine off. cold air blows from one side of the dash even when you have the heat turned on high. dealer says this is the blend door problem. i already had this unit replaced at 70k miles and now it is failing again. dealer states it is due to the design of using plastic parts that break. *tr

Blend doors on jeep grand cher. break and you cannot use defrost, heat, or air. the defrost not working is a safety hazard as you cannot see! *tr

1. my air conditioner started acting up and not blowing the correct hear/air. 2. the blend doors are broken on my grand cherokee 3. nothing yet, its a $1200 fix. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. while the contact was driving approximately 5 mph coming from a complete stop the power windows and power door locks failed to operate when engaged. the additionally, a noise sounded from the instrument panel whenever engaging the power window switch. the vehicle had a recall repair performed under nhtsa campaign id number 06v197000 (seats: front assembly: seat heater/cooler). however, the failure continued to occur after the recall repair. the power windows and power door locks failures had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was 80,000. the current mileage was 95,000.

While driving down the freeway the hvac vents suddenly began to blow hot air in ac mode & switch back & forth. later after reading the haynes manual i did a diagnostic on the heater system & got a code 54 showing a blend door problem. researching this on the internet jeep forums discovered that many grand cherokee limited have a blend door failures due to the design (plastic pins etc) on the temp doors in the system. my problem w/ this is what happens when this fails in the winter & your defroster won't blow hot air only cold. seems like a safety related problem to me. from the internet forums it sounds like a lot of the limited series 1999-2004 have this problem. *tr

Air/ defroster won't blow out any air at all or will blow out hot air on one side of the jeep and cold air out the other side even though the settings are the same. this will happen on and off until it breaks totally. i have had mine fixed 3 times 12/29/06, 03/28/07, 06/08/09. you cannot defog/ defrost the windshield properly and keep it clear when you are driving. each time the dealer replaced the faulty part housing a 240213290, actuator 24029001, housing a 2428025 and again housing a 24028025. this is a known issue for the 2004 jeep grand cherokee and you can find a lot of talk on the internet about the cheap plastic parts that are used . you can find after market aluminum part but that's not what the dealer uses. this should not happen on a jeep that only has 36,000 mile on it..it's like its used alot. at $800.00 a pop its starting to add up. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. ever since the vehicle was purchased, the contact has experienced several failures with the windows. when proceeding to roll down the front passenger side window, it drops down into the door jam. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they determined that the regulator assembly failed. the window was repaired at the cost of $450. while driving 25 mph, the rear driver's side window also dropped down into the door jam. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they determined that the regulator assembly failed again. the window was repaired at the cost of $106.50. one year later, while driving 65 mph, the driver's side window dropped down into the door jam. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and is in the process of being repaired. in addition, when the contact opened the sunroof, she was unable to close it back. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the motor failed. the vehicle was repaired. the contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. the failure mileage was 239 and current mileage was 20,230.

In cold weather, while using the windshield defroster, the hot air needed to keep frost off windshield suddenly changes to cold air on its own. this is very aggravating, and poses a great danger in not keeping the windshield clear. this happens very frequently. the dealership can make a repair, but the cost is prohibitive. *tr

I have a digital dual climate zone in my vehicle. recently the heat started to work only on one side (drivers) and not the passengers. after researching the issue, it looks like there is systemic problem with the mechanical recirculation and ventilation doors for the heating/cooling system as i found many complaints online with many who have had the same issue. in addition, i called a dealership with the problem codes that i got from running a diagnostic test via the heating/cooling control panel and the dealership also told me this is a very common issue and that it would cost a minimum of $800 to fix. the price to repair was consistent with what others were saying during my research. this is a safety issue as if i have not heat i can not defrost my windows in the winter. *tr

Hvac auto temperature system fails to maintain/sustain heat/cold. occurs constantly when driven. fails to keep windshield free of fog/ice which impairs vision. not safe to drive. *tr

3rd failure of climate control system inside vehicle controlling a/c, heat, vents, etc. have paid a total of $3119 to have it repaired with new oem chrysler replacement parts by certified mechanics. the same failure continues to occur where the climate control "blend doors" break in their plastic housing causing the doors to move independent of the computer control signals. in the winter, cold air will blow regardless of setting, and in the summer hot air blows - also regardless of setting. this latest failure occurred outside of the warranty. it was already fixed once within warranty period before 2 subsequent failures. dealer reps informed me that 80+% of vehicles with dual climate control option have this problem. i have owned a 2000 and 2005 grand cherokees and have also experienced the same issue with both vehicles. *tr

The door blend and actuators have failed on my jeep. middle of winter and my passenger has to sit in a vehicle with cold air blowing on them. *tr

Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower. *tr

The event occurred as i was backing out of my driveway. my rear view mirror was out of view and i went to adjust it. i remembered the window motor on the drivers side had a short so i went to adjust it manually. as i put slight pressure on the mirror the whole thing folded back. i figured it was okay seeing as they were designed to fold back, but when i put them back in place, they did not stay. now, as i drive down the road, the mirrors fold themselves in without warning and it is making me very worried that i cannot see out of my mirror. *tr

I bought my 2004 jeep grand cherokee in 2006 (2nd owner) since then i have replaced the driver's side front window regulator ($400) and now the passenger front needs to be replaced...i have a rubber scraper stuck in it to keep the glass up until a recall is made. *tr

At 39,000 miles blend doors on air and heating not working properly. one side blows cold and other blow hot. three repairs done by dealer and still have the problem. *tr

Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower cold air blowing from defroster/heater system due to substandard components used by manufacturer resulting in defrost system failure that exists on these vehicles in year group 1999-2004. the manufacturer, daimler chrysler has done nothing to resolve this issue with consumer/owners of their vehicles. *tr

I have a jeep grand cherokee that has had a blend door failer due to poor design. my understanding is this is a common problem with the heating system. *tr

On are 2004 jeep grand cherokee overland with automatic climate control the blend doors have failed and this causes the hvac unit to either blow hot or cold when turned on but you have no control of it. we have had the a/c kick on when unit was set to heat/defrost in the middle of winter and this causes a safety issue as the windshield will start icing up or fogging up if it's not real cold out and as my wife drives this vehicle daily i want her in a safe vehicle. we have also had the heater kick on when using the a/c and all you can do is turn the hvac unit off and roll down the windows. from what i have been told all grand cherokee's have this problem just at different intervals. i know some people who have had multiple failures of this part. to get the repairs done at a dealer we were quoted $950 to fix it but i believe jeep should be looking into this as it is such a common problem and it causes a major safety issue during the winter months if and when the heater/defroster quits working. when the hvac system gets stuck there is nothing you can do to fix it sometimes it will stick for a few hours other times it will not work for a day or two. *tr

Research has shown all 1999-2004 jeep grand cherokees with electronic dual climate controls will eventually require major repair in order to cure hot air/cold air blowing from vents when they're not set to do so. the cost to repair this issue, which has been known to pop up again after another 50k miles after repair, is generally $800-$1500 from a dealership. *tr

Dashboard has a loud creaking sound coming from its underside when turning on ventilation? there is creaking from the dash seconds after shutting the engine off. there are strange numbers popping-up on the climate control display. the cold ir blows from one side of the dash even when the heat is turned on. research has shown all 1999-2004 jeep grand cherokees with electronic dual climate controls will eventually require major repair in order to cure hot air/cold air blowing from vents when they're not set to do so. *tr

The blend doors are breaking on my 2004 grand cherokee limited. they are known to fail after approx. 50k to 80k miles, causing the defroster to not work properly. this is a big safety issue, especially in the winter when the defroster is so essential. *tr

Heat and air conditioning died in my 2004 jeep grand cherokee overland, it only has 60,000 miles on it and i did some searching online and this is a common problem for the 99-04 grand cherokees. i live in a cold weather region and cannot defrost my windshield making it quite dangerous. it will cost $1,200 to fix it and i cannot afford to pay that. chrysler is saying it is my responsibility to fix. but the problem lies with the blender actuator doors being too cheap when built. *tr

Jeep grand cherokee hvac blend door malfunction will not allow proper vision through windshield due to defroster not working properly. *tr
