Recently reported VISIBILITY problems on 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I only gwt heat on the drivers side and cold air on the passenger's side of my 2004 jeep grand cherokee. their is an on going problem with 1998-2004 jeeps where the ac blend door breaks. *tr

There were no events leading up to the failure that i am aware of. i attempted to use the heat this past winter, and nothing would blow out. no heat, no air, no defrost. my windows will not defrost. i took it to the dealership and they diagnosed it as broken blend doors. needs blend door housing. they were asking around $1,000.00 to fix it. i researched this problem online and found a forum where many people were experiencing the same exact problem with the same model. this is a factory defect. nothing has been done to correct the failure. i don't have this kind of money. my vehicle was only 3 years old. i contacted the manufacturer to no avail. this summer i , along with many others, will have no air to keep them cool. *tr

Research has shown all 1999-2004 jeep grand cherokees with electronic dual climate controls will eventually require major repair in order to cure hot air/cold air blowing from vents when they're not set to do so. the cost to repair this issue, which has been known to pop up again after another 50k miles after repair, is generally $800-$1500 from a dealership. should you opt to do this repair yourself, the entire dashboard will need to be removed, quite the arduous process, and parts are approximately >$300. does your dashboard have a loud creaking sound coming from its underside when you turn on your ventilation? is there creaking from the dash seconds after shutting the engine off? are there strange numbers popping-up on your climate control display? does cold ir blow from one side of the dash even when you have the heat turned on? your ventilation system may have failed, or, may be in the process of failing. yes to all of the aforementioned. how in god's name has this not turned into a major legal dispute?! this, by far, is more costly than the repetitive brake problems a wj owner would go through. we're all going to get it eventually... eventually we're all going to have to fork out anywhere from $300 to $1500 to fix it, so this is in no way comparable to the infamous brake problem since not everyone was affected by it. *tr

I have 2 jeep grand cherokee both have had to have dash completely pulled and blend doors replaced at a cost of $1100 and they both have only 50,000 miles. i was on a long trip threw the colorado mountains and passenger side would blow only cold air ,unable to clear windshields of fog. visibility/safety hazard. jeep knows they have this problem happens to all of there vehicles 99-04. they even have a tsb, but $1100.00 to fix? *tr

In 2006, the heat on the passenger side of my 2004 jeep grand cherokee quit working. this year, 2007, there is no heat on either side, just blows air. the repair shop wants over $1,000 to fix the blend doors. i researched this on the internet, and there are numerous people with the same problem with their jeeps. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that one month after she purchased the vehicle, she noticed that the driver side exterior mirror would become cloudy. she activated the heated mirror to clear it up, which worked temporarily. however, over the last few months, the frame around the inside of the mirror fractured and caused the mirror to cloud completely over to the point of zero visibility. both the dealer and manufacturer were notified. the vehicle is not under warranty; therefore, they would not repair the vehicle for free. the failure mileage was 25,000 and current mileage was 43,000.

2004 jeep grand cherokee dual zone passenger side heat did not work at the onset of cold weather. dealer stated the blend air door was broke. however to fix the broken part the entire dash assembly along with heater coil and ac coil had to be removed. the cost of the part was minimal compared to the labor expense to replace the part. *tr

Defroster not working properly. *tr

Clicking noise under the dash on heater controls. *tr

I bought a new 2004 jeep grand cherokee from hoover chrysler/jeep in summerville sc. while still on warranty the drivers side automatic window failed to the down position due to a defective regulator. this occurrence happened in our second year of ownership and was repaired by the dealership. the same failure occurred again to the drivers side rear window on 4/4/07 and again to the passengers front window on 9/15/07. all of these failures were attributed to a common regulator neither the local dealership nor chrysler corp. has issued any recall or admitted any capability for this obviously defective part. *jb

Heating and a/c malfunction, blend door actuator broke, messes with the flow of the heat and air. i've heard it happens to all these jeeps. *tr

Passenger side heat does not work in our 2004 jeep gr. cherokee. it is related to a door within the climate control system. it sounds like there are many people who have had the same problem with this. estimated cost to fix is $800-$1000. the windshield will not defrost because all that blows is cold air. this is a safety hazard that needs to be addressed. daimler chrysler needs to be responsible for these defective parts. *tr

2004 jeep grand cherokee automatic zone control climate control system. blend door failure causing obstruction in airflow resulting in costly repair. a related issue of the blower motor connector shorting out causing failure of the fan motor to work. *tr

Passenger side window regulator broke - this type of part should not break on a 2004 vehicle. as i read online there are many many complaints about this problem. apperently there are so many problems with this part, my local auto-zone store could not even order the part from their supplier. jeep dealers want in excess of $400 dollars for parts and labor to fix this. major incoveince considering my vehichle cannot be used now for at least a week and i will need to take a limo to and from the airport at an expense of $270 roundtrip until the part gets delivered. this simply is not a part that should fail especially in a car that is only 3.5 years old -

I have a 2004 jeep cherokee, my drivers side window made a bang noise (sounded like someone hit the door with a bat) and the window slid down into the door! it scared me! i took in the next day to get it fixed....$400!! and the man told me he's had several of these come in and he's had to replace. i think jeep should recall them and fix them. i've looked out online and there are several complaints about the plastic parts in the door that work the window. *jb

Blend doors broken on passenger side so no heat comes from dash. no use of defroster on passenger side.. this cant be good for the windshield with hot and cold air blowing on it. repair costs are ridiculous for a factory problem that many people seem to have. *tr

2004 jeep grand cherokee overland blend door breakage/failure cold air blowing in when heat is on *mainly one sided issue* have not fixed yet but will be in the future. *tr

Blend door malfunction. *tr

Jeep grand cherokee limited 2004 the hvac system my heat is not working in my car nor is the defogger defroster on the drivers side window and i can't see. the azc gives me codes 54 and 56 the left and right door travel is too large. i only have heat on the passenger side of the car. the drivers side blows only cold. i am getting quotes from the dealer of close to $1000.00 to repair and its not under warranty. this problem has been around since the 1999 model. this should be a recall!!!! *tr

On 7-11-07 passenger side front window rolled down and would not roll up. dealer advised it was a window regulator failure. cost $389 to fix. on 9-25-07 driver side front window rolled down and would not roll up. dealer advised it was again a window regulator failure. cost $384 to fix. dealership very cooperative and explained problem was no uncommon for the vehicle and stated this has happened to many persons owning the same vehicle. advised another vehicle same year was in the shop at the same time with the same repair. *jb

Rolling down the driver's side window in 90 degree temperature, i heard a large thump. window would not roll back up. window regulator busted. replaced window regulator. *jb

I had to replace a window regulator on the 2004 jeep grand cheerokee. this was the third time, all different windows. *ak

Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower passenger side ac doesn't blow as well (as hard as) the driver side vent, and the air that does come out is hot. it's the opposite in the winter when the heat is on. passenger side only minimal blowing and the air is very cold???? also affects the defrost on the passenger side. no warm air on passenger side, window will not defrost causing visibility issues!!!!!! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that she is experiencing failure with her vehicle's power windows. she stated that her power windows fail to roll up. she has not contacted the manufacturer or the dealer. the heat shut off while the heat button was still activated. as a result, the air conditioner is not working either. the dealer stated that the cause of failure was the heating system and would cost $2,000 to be repaired. the dealer also recommended that she notify nhtsa to determine if there were any recalls on her vehicle. there were none that applied to her vehicle. the engine size was unknown. the current mileage is 38,830 and failure mileage was 37,500.

Blend door failure. no heat on driver's side living in a very cold climate. $800-$1500 to fix for a vehicle that is only 3 years old. it should be a recall because of the fact it is a common problem with these jeeps.

2004 jeep grand cherokee overland: heat and a/c blower are in operative. mid case and blend door are defective. *ak

The 2004 jeep cherokee with 42,000 miles on it had window regulators on both front doors malfunctioned on separate occasions. one regulator was covered under warranty and replaced by the dealership. i paid another party to replace the other regulator. this could have resulted in an unsafe situation due to no control over the window units. on one event it was raining ,and on the other event, the car was parked in a public parking lot.*ak

Blend doors inoperable. resistor allows too much torque for the plastic blend door to handle. (as for the property damage yes or no question i checked yes because my jeep is my property and it is damaged!) also i can't remember exactly what date i purchased this grand cherokee? but, it was definitely march 2005. *jb

I am having a problem with the steering, brakes, and the heat vent. when turning left or right, it makes this awful noise. when applying the brakes, the steering wheel and the front end begins to shake. i took the vehicle to get the brakes changed and they said the pads look fine. when i had the heater on, it was blowing cold air on the passenger side. *tr

Windshield visibility frequently reduced due to failure of heater/cooling system, vehicle has no heat for defroster (or occupants). i took the car to the dealer, described the problem and was immediately told this was a known problem in the jeep line with the blend door mechanism and would cost $1,200 to repair. note: this was based solely on a description, no mechanic was required to look at the car; this issue is that well known to the dealership. further, a diagnostic would require removal of the dash, costing $200-500 just to check/confirm. i reported the problem at 29,500 miles (of a 30,000 warranty) but was told i was beyond the warranty date. no corrective action or accomodation was offered. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the vehicle is equipped with a dual control a/c, which allows the driver and passenger to control the temperature on their own side of the vehicle. the contact stated that the blend door on the front passenger side was defective. the door prevents heat from entering and causes the defroster to work only on the driver side of the vehicle. she took the vehicle to a repair shop and was informed that the failure was due to a faulty blend door. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 48,000 and current mileage was 52,000. updated 10/24/07

Visibility:defroster/defoger heating system. my wife and i purchased our 2004 jeep grand cherokee in august of 06 with 38,000 miles on the odometer. while she had it in for a routine oil change she told the tech about noises in the dash and he responded with it supposed to sound like that. now 12,000 miles later the jeep has no heat at all and we need to pay $1,000 to fix something that is not covered under the extended warranty. we purchased this vehicle with the intension on keeping it for more than 100,000 miles. if we keep the jeep this long it looks like we'll have to have this fixed again if it breaks every 50,000 miles. i didn't see heat as an option on the window sticker. *tr

In june of 2006, my front passenger window fell down. i took it to the dealership to be replaced and was told it was the regulator. i had to pay $200 out of pocket. the same exact thing happened to my left passenger window in march of 2007. this time it cost me over $400. daimler chrysler has not been cooperative. obviously this is a jeep defect as the same thing has happened to both windows, both of which i rarely use. *jb

No heat

Rear passenger (electric) window fell down and would not go back up. i purchased an extended warranty when i purchased the vehicle (70k) with a $100 dollar deductible. i took the vehicle in to have the problem fixed and was charged a $98 fee to look at the problem. i was called the next day and informed that i would have to pay another $98 to further diagnose the problem. when i told the dealership i would not pay anymore money because of my warranty, they disconnected the switch and rolled the window up instead. this problem remains unresolved. *tr

Heater blend door breaking. *jb

Heat/ventilation system failing to temper air in cabin properly due to defective blend air door mechanism. *nm

Passenger side heat quit working. this is a dual climate control vehicle. passenger side only blows cold air. *ak

I own a 2004 jeep grand cherokee limited with 66,000 miles. in august 2006, the ac quit functioning when air temperatures exceeded 85f. after a recalibrating, everything seemed fine. but when the temperature dropped the passenger heat failed while the drivers side continued to function. the dealership replaced the "blend air assembly" per the tsb - at my expense. didn't fix the problem so they recalibrated the system again. worked for about 1 month. then no heat on the driver side while passenger side has heat from the top vent but not the lower. the right side blend doors have been replaced twice & system recalibrated 4 times- again at my expense. still no heat on drivers side or lower passenger side. keeping the windshield is problematic in poor weather conditions. service manager says he isn't getting any help from daimler chrysler. as temperatures have been below zero this is a serious safety hazard. *jb

I own a jeep gc limited, last week the heater failed on the passenger side vents, and have not been restored yet. *jb

Failure of the hvac system in a 2004 jeep grand cherokee overland. system fails to operate correctly with the effect of the de-misting not clearing the screen and blowing hot and cold air simultaneously. *jb

Hvac failure. *jb

Failure of climate control "blend door mechanism. this is the 2nd jeep grand cherokee i have owned and it has happened to both vehicles. when it fails, you cannot control the a/c or heat on each side of the vehicle. repaired on both vehicles at a cost of $1650 and $1500 respectively. the first vehicle is now broken again, which will cost another $1500-1700 to repair for the same issue. *tr

Heating/defrosting malfunction. *nm

I have clod air blasting from the passenger side, even when the heat is on, and noises coming from the under side of the dash. the dealer told me it was the blend or door as soon as a i called and they even knew what it would cost to fix it. i asked if this was common since he seemed to know immediately they told me know, but when i went to the dealer to get fixed i overheard a conversation of another jeep owner with the same problem, i paid over $1200 to get this fixed. *jb

Visibility- heat/cool erractic operation of auto temp control 2004 grand cherokee overland- in cold weather produces cold air on its own- in warm weather produces hot air on one side of vehicle and cold air on other side at identical temp settings. *tr

The blend doors in my chrysler 2004 jeep grand cherokee have deteriorated and fallen into the plenum box where they are housed. i have learned from the dealership this is a known defect by the chrysler engineers. my windows frost up do to not having any heat creating a dangerous situation due to the fact i cannot see out my windows . the dealership and repair shops want over a thousand dollars to fix the problem. *tr
