Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Anytime i hit a small bump in road or when turning the front end loses control and vehicle shakes violently sending me into other lane. several wires have melted under the hood and the front driver seat gets extremely hot while driving a distance over 13 miles

I got a short circuit by the air conditioner. it caught fire and burned the whole inside of my car.

Takata recall. clock will not go off at anytime, so battery goes down overnight all the time. brake and abs lights stays on while driving. ignition key doesn't match door nor hatch locks. the exhaust system has vibration at times when in motion. when test driving this vehicle i just assumed the vehicle had been sitting with an older battery was why it needed to be jumped. then after i got it home and it sat overnight and i had the same problem; i thought i'd left something turned on. then i discovered that the clock will not go off. i purchased this vehicle on 5/17/2019 as is.

My 2004 jeep has 110,768 miles on it and durring the recent cold spell in western ny the heater and ac stopped working ! my windows fogged up and couldn't see , i was a sitting duck in the middle of the road as i couldnt see. i was told tjat the wiers under/inside the dash behind the glove bkx has melted causing it to short out ? this seems to be a recall issue as if the original wiers r melting during normal use it can cause a fire. please recall and fix.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the front and rear doors did not unlock from inside the vehicle and the windows would not roll down. the contact became trapped inside the vehicle. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact finally managed to exit the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. an independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle, but the results were unknown. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 18,000. the vin was unknown.

Seat heater wiring inside both front seats cracked at seat heater elements causing electrical resistance and melting of seat cushion material surrounding wiring. this defect was previously addressed via safety recall 09v11700 in 2009. chrysler claimed my vehicle had received the safety recall, and the parts are only warranted for 2 years. if this is true, the new parts have the same fire hazard as the old parts.

The vehicle stalls .shuts off when driving it runs like a dream and out of no where it shuts off

Back seat on driver side window is stuck in the down position, the window button was pressed while driving on a local state road and would not go back up. bad wiring should be the culprit...

The driver's side control for the windows and doors does not work making it impossible to put the windows down or lock the car. this occurs when in motion or while stationary. it is a safety concern.

The break tail lamp shots out and had to replace the unit twice this year and the was wiring shots to the break light and it cost me $1500 for the break light wiring shot and the tail light assemble. i have had this problem for 3 yrs consecutive and i think it is a safety issue since it is the breaks lighting and their has been multiple complaints about the same issue for this vehicle on line. i think that chrysler should recall all this vehicles and rewire them for free since it is a safety fitcher. the whole break wiring had melted because it had a shot and burnt the bulb sockets and assemble unit

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle jerked and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the crank shaft sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. a local dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 04v112000 (electrical system). the failure mileage was approximately 100,000. the vin was not available.

Without warning my jeeps engine will shut off. it doesn't matter if it is while stopped or driving it will shut off and not turn back on until about 10 minutes later. when it has shut off it will still turn over and i have power to everything i need but it will not fire up. this happened first on a sunny morning driving in town. i towed it back to my house and could not get any codes. it fired up and i thought it was fine so i kept driving it. at this point about ten minutes down the road in the middle of traffic and while cruising along a busy road it shut off, i had power and the ability to steer but no power steering. luckily i had a driveway to pull into and i coasted into it. this happens without warning. at this point i have my jeep at the dealer in modesto ca for a diagnostic and they have told me that i need to replace the computer and the wiring harness for 1400 dollars and then they will see if that fixes the problem. not a guarantee it will fix the problem. this is unacceptable to me as i cannot spend this type of money with the hope that whatever other problem there might be will be more affordable or easier to diagnose. this has to be a problem that is inherent with the jeep itself and a manufacture defect. not only do i not believe this is my fault as a user of the vehicle but i believe that this has caused an unsafe operating condition and i could have been seriously injured if this had happened on another road such as, a dirt road, mountain road, winding road, in icy or rainy conditions, or on the highway. this has also caused me to not be able to sell this car for any reasonable price, and the price for repair is over a quarter of the blue book of the car. overall i do not feel safe with this vehicle for the intended purpose it was made for and this needs to be investigated before someone gets killed. thank you

My 2004 jeep grand cherokee interior lights stay on and windows will not work. have had this problem fixed 2 times now and it has happened again. on the internet it says it is a flaw in the wiring harness. a black ground wire breaks. also the vehicle is developing the death wobble where going down the road if you hit a bump the front end shakes violently. had this same problem on my 1997 jeep grand cherokee. very dangerous.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the front and rear driver side window and also the front and rear passenger side window failed to open and close. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (bachman chrysler dodge jeep ram located at 630 broadway st, jeffersonville, in 47130) where the dealer stated that the contact had to pay for the charges. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted at 800-992-1997 and was made aware of the failure. the manufacturer asked the contact to call the nhtsa hotline. a case number was not provided. the approximate failure mileage was 151,000.

System will read "drivers door ajar" when door is closed causing the loss of control to windows, interior lights and radio.

While in motion driving on a busy two way city roadway street, the vehicle lost power, lost brakes, no steering and no electrical while in motion, that endangered my life from a head on collision. currently no power, the windows are open, the windshield wipers are stuck.

Front passenger side door wiring harness broke at 165,150 miles. (this has happened on the driver side of my 1999 jeep also). many complaints on the internet of this very problem!!! happens to almost all jeeps at some point. too short of wiring harness and/or brittle of wires. this repeating problem needs to be a recall for all of the door wiring harnesses. when this happens, doors do not lock, windows can not be raised or lowered, back hatch or window cannot be opened. if there is a pet in the far back and a pet fence is in place up front, you cannot get to the pet!!! please make this a recall to fix. thank you. jeep/chrysler needs to be held accountable.

Takata recall while driving my steering wheel is very loose shakes when i use the brake peddle. pulls me left then jerks be to the right or vise versa. this is very scary. i have kids that depend on me to get them from school bus stop etc i do not feel safe driving my own vehicle i've put 2 sets of new tires on my jeep since february of this year 2017. this happeneds on the highway city street back roads you names it

My jeep has many recalls and i need info to get done!

Replaced tail light housing units only to have them go bad again. wire harness needed to be replaced numeral times, electrical system for doors and windows had to be replaced numeral times. gauges on dash board wouldn't work half the time. just had a mva with a deer and extensive damage to the front of the car and no airbags were deployed, the accident was so extensive that the car was totaled!

Jeep accelerated without stepping on gas. accelerator cable did not seem to operate smoothly, when applying, felt somewhat "rough/nothy" owner agreed to change as suggested. cable changed total $477.39 in 5/2010.this time car was towed to jeep dealer. c. stated jeep accelerated on its own, towed in. jan. 13,11 jeep towed in to jeep dealer for bucking and accelerating on its own, no issue was found. may 13,11 towed into jeep dealer, changed several components and $1,074.68, never had a definite answer, and after each incident took its toll on my nerves, scared to death to drive my jeep, which i purchased to make our family safe. fast forward, 11/23/2015 this jeep once again started accelerating and racing in park and with the hand brake up. my jeep has 64,k and is taken care of, looks great. but, once again i cannot risk putting my family or myself in it to drive. i have found numerous stories like this and some a lot worse. my instincts were to just shut the engine off and i did all4 times over the years. i am now on a fixed income and would love to be happy and keep this jeep grand cheroee but, i can no longer take this chance. i would love to know how many people must die or how many accidents have to happen before chrysler wakes up and recalls, i'm guessing they don't really know what to fix. i also had problems with my tail lights and had repairs several time, when i got a ticket after it was already fixed a few times i had to pay. failed nj inspection 1 time due to what they called a wig wag, which jeeps are know for, who out there is on the consumers side, no one it appears. no recalls on this this but, they will get back to me on a passenger restraint module, maybe next year 2016, if we are lucky. all 4 times the vehicle was being driven and the only thing that worked was shutting off the engine using the key. my vehicle must be safe for grandchild.

Takata the blower moter comes on then goes off and now it dont work did reseach and it said there r problems the the connector it gets over heated and melts i dont know if that is happining to mine but i dont thing the bower motor is bad i think its the connector

Arm rest wire control door locks dash overhead lights turn lights remote mirror control has shorted out 3 times now driving in all types of roads.

I have had issues with my idash lighting going so dim you can't see anything on it and when that happened my power windows stopped working it was like that for about a week then it just fixed its self now a year later and all my power windows don't work again. and the lighting inside the vehicle works one day and not the next. this has happened for about two years off and on

3 times now i have had the wires that run through the rubber boot in the passenger door break causing loss of power to passenger side windows, door locks, side mirrors and interior lights not turning off.

The driver door wiring harness breaks and causes the windows not to work. this is an ongoing problem and is caused by the repeating opening and closing of the door and the wires being bent. this can cause a safety hazard by way of not being able to unlock doors in emergency or roll down winds

My 2004 jeep grand cherokee laredo was acting like the door was open (overhead computer warning driver door open and interior lights would not go out), but was visibly/physically closed. the windows, door locks and mirror controls were not working. upon further investigation of the main wires coming in from the body of the jeep into the door, (door jam/black boot) it was clear what the problem was. there was a black severed wire and a partial severed orange/white wire. there was no clear solution why this has happened. there has been multiple reports of this being a common problem with the wiring harness. this should be recalled as it is obviously a manufacturers defect and is costing people a lot of money to fix. *tr

I've always had trouble with my 2004 jeep grand cherokee. especially with the fuel system and fuel pump. i've had to replace my fuel pump 3-4 times. now its reading the rpm extremely high. i've also had to replace my jeep's computer because i was told that was the problem. it seems there's also electrical issues. i still can't find the exact problem.

My car keeps cutting off while driving. it has done this several times on highway, rural roads and main roads. it has caused me to almost have several wrecks. when the car cuts off, i lose all power. i have been stranded several times. i have had to walk back home or get someone to come get me if it was further away. i have had to use someone car because i am afraid it will do it and i will wreck my brother-in-law was killed in a similar accident. after a while the vehicle will start again, but does the same thing over and over again. it started off about 1 month after i purchased it, when i would just crank the car and the first time it would not crank but the 2nd time it would. in the last 2 weeks it has become more frequent occurance. when i put it in neutral to see if it will crank. it does and then i put in drive. it cuts off again. i have to pull over to the side of the road no matter where you are and sometimes if you are going on the highway at the speed and your car cuts off, you lose power and could easy wreck. if i was to pull out and it cut off, i could be hit and killed or a family member in the car with me. i was stranded recently, a gentleman came over and brought some equipment when i told him what had happened and he told me that it could be either the crank shaft sensor or camshaft sensor that is bad. he also said there could be a recall on some vehicles of that model year.

I've had problems on and off with the power windows, door locks, interior lights and stereo system. the power windows/door locks do not work. unless i turn the interior dimmer light switch to the off position, the lights stay on. when this is done, i cannot see the displays (i.e., speed, etc.). the stereo system will play and the cd player works; however, i cannot see the display at all --- channels, track #s, etc. all of these issues, except the stereo system, create driving hazards.

Vehicle stalls out and loses total power (engine shuts off ) while driving. this has happened several times and there is no pattern as to when or why it occurs this is extremely hazardous, trying to steer your suddenly powerless vehicle to the shoulder of the road and out of harms way. *tr
