Passenger side air vents of my 2003 jeep grand cherokee started to blow cold air when the heat was on starting in 3/2006. this caused problems with my windshield defrosting with the heat only working on one side. dealer refused to cover problem ("door actuator") under warranty and told me it would cost $800.00 to fix. i didn't even own the vehicle for a month, this vehicle was sold to me with faulty heat. now on 2/17/07 i lost all my heat in the vehicle causing me to freeze in the new england weather. more importantly i can't defrost my windshield. i was told the total cost to repair would be $1,000.00. *jb

2003 jeep grand cherokee limited 51,000 miles passenger side heat stop working causing windshield to not defrost. jeep says this is a very common problem but there is no recall on it yet. jeep admitted that the blend door is defective and they have a better part to replace it. had them replace this at a cost of $680.00. *ak

I have a 2003 jeep grand cherokee overland and the vents on the passenger side only blow cold air. the blend door not opening and closing, which is what it should be doing. during the winter i had to keep changing the heat from blowing on me to blowing on the windows because they kept fogging up, and when i switched to the windows i was subject to the cold. there is loud creaking sound coming from the dashes underside when you turn on the ventilation. there is creaking from the dash seconds after shutting the engine off. *ak

Blend doors on 2003 jeep grand cherokee intermittently do now work. in winter sometimes i can get heat, sometimes i cannot. not only does this effect the comfort level in the vehicle but also is a safety issue in that it affects how well the defroster work. in the summer, sometimes i can get cold air out of the air conditioner and sometimes i cannot this is a well know malfunction with grand cherokees. *jb

2003 jeep grand cherokee safety issue visibility defroster/defogger system chrysler knows that there is a problem and should issue a recall on the blend doors before some one gets killed for poor visibility.... they modified this problem in 004. *nm

i own a 2003 jeep grand cherokee limited with 90,000. the events leading up to the failure of the ventilation system were (1) rapid fogging of front windsheild,(2) fogging of front passenger windows,(3) failure of passenger heat while still maintaining driver heat function, and (4) only cold air release on passenger side of jeep. consequently,(1) the windsheild and front windows do not defog, and (2) no heat whatsoever comes from the passenger side floor and dashboard ventilation system. to correct this problem, a "blend air door" is necessary at a cost of approximately $1,200 inclusive of 7 hours of labor. according to the certified service department at the local jeep dealer and online forums, this has become a very common problem for 2000-2004 jeep grand cherokee limiteds with duel zone ventilation systems. *nm

Visibility : windshield defroster/defogger system is un-operable due to faulty "heater blend doors". this is a serious safety "hazard" due to fact you can not defrost the front windshield when necessary to see where you are going. *tr

I own a 2003 jeep grand cherokee limited with 52,000 miles. the events leading up to the failure of the ventilation system were (1) rapid fogging of front windshield,(2) fogging of front passenger windows,(3) failure of passenger heat while still maintaining driver heat function, and (4) only cold air release on passenger side of jeep. consequently,(1) the windshield and front windows do not defog, and (2) no heat whatsoever comes from the passenger side floor and dashboard ventilation system. to correct this problem, a "blend air door" is necessary at a cost of approximately $1,200 inclusive of 7 hours of labor. according to the certified service department at the local jeep dealer and online forums, this has become a very common problem for 2000-2004 jeep grand cherokee limited with duel zone ventilation systems. *jb

One day i turned on the heat and cold air was blowing from one side of the dash even when i had the heat turned on. i took it to the dealer, and now i have to pay about 1000 dollars to fix it. my car only has 40000 miles jeep grand cherokee 2003. *jb

Tl* - the contact owns a 2003 jeep grand cherokee. the vehicle's defroster was not defrosting the windows on the passenger's side of the vehicle. the contact attempted to use all settings to defrost the windows and has been unsuccessful. the contact's rear defrost was operating properly. the contact stated that this failure occurred on 12/18/06. the contact's reference technical bulletin # 2400104, nhtsa item# 10005603; new hvac sub-assembly replaced blend or recirc door components. *ak the manufacturer informed the consumer the mileage exceeded the limitations of the manufactures warranty at the time the expense was incurred. updated 01/19/07.*jb

Dt*: the contact stated although there were no ongoing problems with the seat warmers, there was a nhtsa recall, #06v197000 on the vehicle regarding the seats. the parts needed to repair the vehicle were not available at the local dealership. the manufacturer was not alerted. additionally, while attempting to open the front passenger power side window, there was a popping noise. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer, who determined the power window control needed to be replaced.

Blend door failed. heat no longer came out on passenger side. cold air instead. cost $1500 to fix. absurd for a 3 yr old auto (2003) with 40k miles. jeep grand cherokee. i understand the blend door fails on almost all their 1999-2004 cars. *jb

The 2003 jeep grand cherokee blows cold air out of passenger's side vents, including the front window vent that was supposed to defrost the window. i had to stop and scrape inside and out when it was cold outside. this was dangerous!!! the defroster needed to operate properly, and there were thousands of jeeps with this problem. *ak

I own a 2003 jeep grand cherokee. while driving on 12/05/2006 i experienced a system failure when my passenger window fell for no reason. i took it to the dealer and they reported that the power window regulator which failed. i then checked your site and noticed numerous complaints for the same problem. this is a costly repair and i just wondered how many times someone had to suffer a financial loss on a part that is so common and of which i never had a problem with on other vehicles owned that had much more activity than this window. please let me know because as a consumer i would hope that manufacturers are held to some standards. *jb

Automatic climate control system blows only cold air from the right side even when high heat has been selected. thousands of grand cherokees are affected by this problem. repair costs are in the $1200-1500 range. this should prompt a recall order.

Hood mechanism failed. passenger side power window failed. car heater failed. *tr

I turned on the heater/defroster to clear the windshield and only cold air would come out. after speaking to a few dealerships the all agreed on the same problem. it is the blend doors. it will cost me 90.00 for parts and 600.00 in labor for a vehicle that i had 4 months and only 44,000 miles. it is hard to drive in the winter with fogged up windows. not to mention unsafe. i will keep the old parts. *nm

2003 jeep grand cherokee heating system blend door. *nm

Blend door malfunction. on the passenger side of my jeep i always have cold, no matter how many times i try to change the temp to get the doors to adjust. driver side has sporadic problems with the blend doors. sometimes it will be the temp that i want, and other times it will be the complete opposite. when i asked the jeep dealer in town, he estimated that it would cost $1400 to fix the problem. i had bought the jeep from a dealership 4 months prior to this happening. i have done nothing to correct this problem because i refuse to pay out of my own pocket for faulty equipment that was installed by the vehicle manufacturer. *jb

It appears as though 1999 to 2004 jeep grand cherokees have an issue with "blend door" failure in the hvac system. the failure will prevent heat from reaching the windshield. in freezing conditions the windshield will unexpectedly ice up and result in poor visibility. after speaking with dealership and independent repair technicians as well as internet research, it appears the failure rate is "very high". the manufacturer has revised the faulty parts used in this system (tsb#2400104) but are doing nothing to alert owners of the potential, unexpected failure. *jb

Auto defrost has caused driver side rearview mirror to become foggy making it very difficult to see. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 65 mph, the heater became inoperable without warning. the vehicle was driven to the dealer who determined the blend door needed to be replaced. *ak

Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower wj style jeep heat stopped working. could not see to drive during the winter. defrost would not work. jeep would not fix. cost me over $3000.00 cdn to repair at dealership.

Broken heater and defrost on passengers side. bad blend doors. *nm

Ventilation system fails, blowing some cold, some hot air out of different vents. nothing i do will stop the air. *ak

Cold air comes out of the heater system on any temp and/or zone setting. first started with passenger side, now both passenger and driver side blow only cold air...causing visibility issues (fog/frost on the windshield), particularly during high humidity or inclement weather. *tr

Failure of blend air door system in hvac, first failure 2006, since failed again, not yet repaired. *tr

Very unsafe malfunction of the "blend doors" in my 2003. defroster only work on my driver's side. dealer knows about it, says if you only have one malfunctioning, you might as well replace both blend doors because they know the parts are badly designed and will fail, says about $1600 - $1800 to fix it with redesigned parts! *jb

Heater. *tr

Broken mode blend doors on 2003 grand cherokee with dual climate controls. *tr

A/c and heating blower motor and power window motor failure. these problems have occurred in my 2003 jeep grand cherokee limited. after researching i have found well over 180 people who own grand cherokees (various models) between the years 2000-2004 with these exact same problems. chrysler/ jeep customer service will not respond to my comments on this issue. *nm

2003 jeep grand cherokee laredo 42,000 miles: passenger side window regulator failed/broke while driving (window not in use at the time) *jb

At 35,000 miles the passenger-side window regulator made a popping noise, then the window slowly sank into the window-well and would not move. i had to have the regulator replaced at a cost to me of $447.20. *jb

July 2006 i was driving my 2003 jeep when i heard a pop. i was unsure where the sound came from so i looked around the vehicle to see if a rock had hit the window. i then proceeded to roll down each window to see if there was a problem there. i found that the passenger side window was broken and the window slid down into the door. when i called the dealership the person who answered the phone knew immediately what the problem was without even seeing the vehicle because this is apparently a common problem. when the vehicle was taken in for repairs i asked to speak to the manager because i believed it was unfair that i had to pay well over $300 for something that seems to be a defect. he then explained that the genius engineers decided to replace what used to be a steel rod with a piece of plastic! i requested the address to send a formal complaint to chrysler regarding this matter and i followed up with a letter via e-mail. in return, i received a form letter from chrysler that had not been completed. i feel cheated by a company that has taken my money and ran. i will never buy another jeep or chrysler vehicle because of the treatment i received. they didn't even care enough to proofread the form letter they sent... i'm guessing they probably didn't even read my letter.*jb

The passenger door window went part way down, it then failed to move . you could hear the motor working but the window remained in the same position. the failure caused rain and debris to enter the window. the entire regulator had to be replaced which included the motor because a plastic cam broke. the part cost over $200 to the public and failed with less than 31000 miles on the car but was out of warranty by exceeding the three year limit. same unit on both sides of car could cause problem of objects flying in face of driver. *jb

I would like to register a complaint against chrysler. i own a 2003 jeep grand cherokee and i had to have the motor replaced for the driver side rear window. what is bothersome to me is that i never put this window down. no one sits in the back seat nor do i have children putting the window up and down. i also had to replace both the driver and passenger side motors as well. it's quite clear that there is a defect in this part. i would appreciate it if we start holding companies accountable for their products. *nm

Blend door failure - in addition to creating an interior temperature control problem, this can become a safety issue when the defroster is needed. repair costs can exceed $1,000 since the dash must be removed to replace this relatively inexpensive part. *tr

Since october 2005 i have had 3 power window regulators fail. i have replaced 2 and currently need the 3rd replaced. it is expensive and absurd to have to go through this in less than a years time. *jb

Window regulator is faulty. this has occurred 3 times within the past year in which i need to replace the regulator to make the window go up and down. occurrences have taken place on may 2005, january 2006 driver's side window both times and april 2006 passenger side window. all three times i have paid at my expense to get this faulty equipment fixed. *nm
