2003 jeep grand cherokee. consumer writes in regards to restraint control module replacement parts not available to repair recall and window motor regulator assembly problems. *smd also, the passenger and driver side front window motor regulators broke, the cd player malfunctioned, the passenger seat belt pretensioner was inoperative and the brakes were not performing as designed. *jb

Heat stops working - issue with doors inside engine - spoke with mechanic said very common on these vehicles and should be recalled. *tr

Vehicle's heating system is defective...heat only comes out on passenger side and not driver's side, a internal defect in heating mechanics (door's that control heat ) in researching online appears that this is a common issue with jeep owners in this year range and should be a recall that the manufacture is responsible for. please advise. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

poor design and cheap plastic parts led to premature failure of the heater/ac blend doors that control the air flow of the heater and air conditioning system. this problem has existed on the 1999 to 2004 jeep grand cherokee. why didn't chrysler repair the defect instead of waiting 6 years? the dealer charges $ 1300.00 to make this repair.the actual part is about $30.00. chrysler should be held accountable for this. *tr

I have no heat in this vehicle. i replace a part and detached the glove compartment permanently so that i can turn a knob to get heat, at least, on the driver side. there is zero heat on the passenger side, but i engage the "c" button and the passenger side gets recirculated air on that side, (not warm, but at least not freezing cold). sometimes turning the knob engages the heat, sometimes not. i have discovered that this is a defect in manufacturing for 2003 jeep grand cherokee limited vehicles, along with prior years. however, to my knowledge, there has been no recall. i purchased this vehicle pre-owned, with 80k miles on it. my question is if this is a defect in manufacturing, why should i have to pay hundreds of dollars to repair it. it seems that the dealership should absorb the cost of this repair and not the consumer. additionally, why hasn't this problem been listed as a recall? *tr

2003 jeep grand cherokee heater/defroster failure. intermittently while driving, the heater/defroster stops blowing hot air and blows cold. i live in a city where we get snow and fog, and temps go below zero. having a malfunctioning defroster is a safety issue. this has occurred in a snowstorm, and i had to park the vehicle beside the road and call a family member to pick me up because i could not keep ice from forming inside my windshield. i was stuck beside the road with a 2 year old child, in the snow! sometimes turning off the vehicle and restarting will help, other times, it will randomly turn back on. *tr

Total loss of heat on the passenger side. now the drivers side has no heat either. i live in canada and we need the heat to work or the vehicle is totally useless if you can't see out the windshield! jeep dealers are aware of the problem, but won't fix it by recall. they expect you to pay anywhere from 800-1500 for them to fix it and a loss of your jeep for at least 3 days. this is nuts! *tr

2003 jeep grand cherokee laredo: heater/defroster intermittently blows cold air while driving. while driving in the winter with heat and/or defrost on and temp control turned to warm/hot, suddenly there is cold air only. in rain/snow windshield will frost over making it impossible to see. this defect may only last a few minutes, maybe longer. if i stop the engine for a minute or two, and don't touch the heater controls, restart the car, there is heat again to defrost the glass. this however may only last a few minutes or maybe an hour. if the engine is stopped again and restarted, there is heat again. this is extremely dangerous as a cold defroster in a snowstorm causes ice buildup inside the car. i have seen many heat/defrost problems with this generation of gc's on the internet. i have to question why chrysler has not issued a recall for such a danger to myself and others. *tr

I purchased a 2003 jeep grand cherokee limited in 2007 and it had 25,000 miles and one owner. at 40,000 miles the blend doors failed due to defect of cheap plastic and shoddy construction. most jeep dealers want $1500.00 to repair this issue. this is a safety issue and chrysler should be held responsible and pay for full repair of this malfunctioning design. *tr

I am the owner of a 2003 jeep grand cherokee suv. recently, the drivers side power window experienced a malfunction and will not work. the problem was diagnosed as a defective regulator. the repair cost $516. i have investigated this issue on the web and have determined that this issue with the jeep power window regulator is a widespread, systemic problem with all jeep vehicles. i believe that chrysler should initiate a recall on this part. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the front driver side and both rear windows had to be replaced. the contact stated that the motors failed in all three windows and the windows would not stay in the upright position. the failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 90,000.

Blend door failure in the hvac system leading to inadequate defrosting of front windshield impairing vision. dealership was aware of the issue prior to failure as this is a common malfunction. repair work was not covered under premium warranty plan. *tr

Intermittent heat and defrost it finally went out took it to repair shop the pigtail was melted and had to be replaced blow motor works but the dampener doors won't open to let heat or defrost work. jeep says it is a common problem with the 2003 jeep grand cherokee limited edition but they wont fix it because they say it is not a safety issue. if you cant see out of your windows you cant see to drive and you scrape the ice off the inside of the windows and they ice back up. *tr

Jeep 2003 grand cherokee hvac unit. automatic temperature control unit. no heat or ac on passenger side. first time last summer for two days, then it came back. last week, no heat on passenger side. on 12/19/09 went to jeep dealership, charged $ 99.00 for diagnostic and told is a problem with the blend doors; price to fix $ 1,400- 2,100 . searched the internet about it and found a chrysler jeep service bulletin # 24-001-04 dated january 20, 2004 concerning the same doors. in addition there are hundreds of jeep drivers complaining about the same problem in several forums. i disconnected the battery for 30 minutes, reconnected and the heater was fine. turned the vehicle off, turned back on ten minutes later and again no heat on passenger side. *tr

When the weather gets cold and i turn the heater it only blows cold air. while driving through atlanta this past tuesday i nearly had an accident because the windows were fogged up. it is impossible to keep the windows from fogging up unless you open the windows (not smart with 35 degrees outside) or you turn the vent, which is the same as opening the windows. *tr

I bought my 2003 jeep grand cherokee with 60,000 miles on it in phoenix it was hot and i did not check the heater. the next night i drove it back to flagstaff and the temperature dropped to 25 degrees. i was not expecting to be in a vehicle without heat and was very cold and could not feel my feet by the time i got to my house. i have had frostbite and am very susceptible to the cold. i feel that while heat may not be as important as brakes or other major safety features it is still important. *tr

Blend door malfunction- unable to regulate temperatures. extremely costly fix. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 jeep grand cherokee laredo. the driver-side window fell inside of the door frame. he made a temporary remedy, until he was able to have the vehicle repaired. this failure has occurred three times. the manufacturer was notified, and he was advised that the failure was not common for his model. the failure mileage was 88,000.

The heating/cooling system on my 2003 grand cherokee is an insult to the other qualities of this vehicle! the internal doors that direct air through the system is extremely cheaply made. mostly plastic-a very poor grade! the dealer says it will cost close to a $1000 to repair and he wouldn't guarantee it would not happen again. i think chrysler should be responsible for something this poorly made. it is no wonder they are in trouble and the government is giving them billions of dollars to make more inferior jeeps! i have not had the repairs made,i just don't have the money. so my wife has to ride to work in a luxury vehicle with no heater! there is no doubt this should be a recall!!!!! *tr updated 10/23/09 *cn

2003 jeep grand cherokee window regulators fail without warning and window falls into door. *tr

Since august 18, 2008, 4 window regulators on my jeep grand cherokee have broken. twice, i have already paid over $800 at your dealership to have this fixed. recently, both of my rear window regulators have broke and i have had to tape my windows up since i cannot afford $800 out of pocket right now. this is obviously a well known jeep grand cherokee problem. i have known of others having this problem with their jeep grand cherokee as well. i have already had numerous problems with my jeep that have cost me several thousands of dollars to fix. i don't think i should have to continue paying for my window regulators to be replaced when my windows are used as much as any normal car window should be used. i only work ten minutes from home and don't abuse my vehicle. *tr

Window regulator on drivers side power window has broken twice! both times no warranty covered it, although the parts repaired were jeep parts, brand new. *tr

Drivers side window regulator has broken 2 times, with window falling inside the door frame. jeep dealer replaced both times with a new regulator, but each was out of warranty when it broke again. *tr

Ventilation system in your grand cherokee making noise, blowing cold air, or just not functioning properly? defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower. *tr

While vehicle was shut off passengerside window fell down into door. when taken apart problem appeared to be a broken plastic clip on regulator. about 2 months later while driving, i heard a load pop noise and the driver's side window fell down into door, again broken plastic clip on regulator. *tr

My 2003 chrysler jeep grand cherokee blows only cold air on passenger side. i was told that i needed heater case repairs for around &1000.00. this is nuts as jeep is aware of this on going problem and should issue a recall. they did issue an informational tsb (#24-001-04) in january of 2004 for stronger parts concerning this very problem. lets try for a recall for all the unlucky people with this problem. *tr

Hvac system components failure. 1) blend doors plastic motor stop broke rendering them useless. no heat in passenger compartment. 2) recirc door broke falling on top of the fan rendering the defroster useless. unable to run defroster creating a serious safety issue. *tr

The heating/cooling system on my 2003 grand cherokee overland is an insult to the other qualities of this vehicle! the internal doors that direct air through the system is extremely cheaply made. mostly plastic-a very poor grade! the dealer says it will cost close to a $1000 to repair and he wouldn't guarantee it would not happen again. i think chrysler should be responsible for something this poorly made. it is no wonder they are in trouble and the government is giving them billions of dollars to make more inferior jeeps! i have not had the repairs made,i just don't have the money. so my wife has to ride to work in a luxury vehicle with no heater! there is no doubt this should be a recall!!!!! *tr

The regulator on 3 of the 4 windows have gone out, have them repaired at $400 per window. the engine fan will not turn off after stopping, unless i pull out the fuse under the hood, have had this repaired 2 times at an expense of $400 each time. car has 75,000 miles and is a 2003 jeep grand cherokee laredo. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 jeep grand cherokee. whenever the contact activated the heating unit mode selector, the driver's side heater and defroster failed to operate. the failures occurred without warning. the authorized dealer was notified and stated that the failure was related to the blend doors located in the heating unit. the vehicle has not been repaired. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 45,000 and current mileage was 46,000.

2003 jeep grand cherokee - blend door failure rendering a/c and heat useless in vehicle. total failure of vehicle a/c and heat system due to broken blend doors to repair would be $1500 - nothing done. *tr

Passenger side bend door defective passenger side to hot and does not cool visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower. *tr

2nd time window regulator broke. defective and very expensive to fix. jeep needs to recall this part. *tr

I was rolling down my automatic window in my 03 jeep grand cherokee and it made a loud sound and will not roll back up. this is the second time this has occurred. from research online this seems to be a huge problem among owners of the same make/model. *tr

My 2003 jeep grand cherokee has had the window just begin to fall into the door on three out of the four windows now and it is usually at the most dangerous moment possible while i'm on the highway or on the road in general. i turn to see no window or the window mysteriously down and i am unable to roll it up. this presents many different hazards not only to the vehicle itself but, also to the occupants whether it is a child or my canine companion they both like to lean on the window and look out even though a child will have a seatbelt on if the window falls down and the child falls out towards the opposing traffic still hanging by a seat belt this is not a situation i am willing to risk. and i will lose my puppy if he is sitting there no doubt about it he will fall right out and it isn't easy to leave him at home every time i go somewhere because i'm afraid of the window failing again it's completely unpredictable. also with the weather it is not very practical to pull off of the highway which is an extremely dangerous area already but to try and somehow prop the window up isn't a safe situation any way you look at it. as cars whisk by at upwards of 70 miles an hour i try and fix something that can be fixed by changing one part on the window regulator. there is already an after market block that can replace the faulty brittle plastic piece. i would appreciate some consideration with this issue. //s// jake trione *tr

Loss of any and all heat. started with the failure of the blend door actuator, resulting in the loss of heat on the passenger side. blow cold air when setting is set at a high temperature. then the recirculator door that fell off the small hinge and dropped on top of the blower disrupting the flow of any air though the heating system. then the blower itself failed resulting in no air, hot or cold, being produced. currently no heat or defrost is being produced resulting in limited visibility while driving and no heat when outside temperature today is at 1 degree above zero and over a foot of snow. *tr

The heater in my 2003 jeep grand cherokee overland has failed due to a known defect in the temperature blender door that prevents heat from getting redirected onto the windshield to defrost the glass. chrysler has to my knowledge not issued a voluntary recall to fix this problem. this is a serious safety issue here in montana where we need to be able to see in winter weather. i was nearly in an accident this morning with my 6-year old son in the car due to the windshield freezing up and my not being able clear the glass. please, please, please issue a recall notice to force chrysler to fix this known problem. i am sure there are many other jeep owners who have filed similar complaints. this is a safety issue just as important as the seat-heater recall for the same model. thank you. bill haynes *tr

Also having problem with blend door. when using the heater, all of the sudden cold air would start blowing from vents. after a few minutes system would switch back to blowing warm air. happens repeatedly. *tr

The heater blend doors on my 2003 jeep grand cherokee do not work. i do not have heat on this vehicle. cost to repair at dealer $3000. this part breaks on all jeep vehicles. should force dealer to repair this small plastic part. it is unsafe to drive in winter time with no heat in vehicle. *tr

2003 jeep grand cherokee heat goes out due to malfunctioning blender doors inside dash. no defrost so it impairs vision in mornings. dealer wants $1800 to repair. go to www.topix.com/forum/autos/jeep-grand-cherokee/tserat48371icob68/p6 to see list of complaints from other jeep owners. this will cause a death soon. people can not afford to have fixed even once much less every winter at the tune of $1800! please help. thank you. *tr

Passenger side heat stopped working. it appears to be a common problem and design flaw in the blend door of jeep grand cherokee's. *tr

Blend door on heater broken, unable to turn heat on or defrost. this makes this vehicle unsafe to drive in cold weather. i can not drive vehicle in winter time. no assistance from dealer in repairing this defective blend door. *tr

The heater stopped working last fall. it will not blow warm air and it is very dangerous in cold/rainy weather since i am unable to see to drive. *tr

2003 jeep grand cherokee (wj). heater blend doors failed, disabling the heating system. this is a very common problem, and extremely expensive to fix. in aerospace, this would be considered a safety issue, as the windscreen becomes impossible to defrost. *tr

Blend doors failure, cold air only, no heat at all. $1,100.00 plus repair bill. only 50,000 mile on vehicle. *tr

No heat on the drivers side. dealer said they changed the blend door and recirculation door and actuators, all with in 2 hours. the job is quoted at 10 hours because they have to remove the whole dash. since they fixed it,3 days later the code for the blend door came back up, and the dealer could not tell me why. all they said was don't worry about it. *tr

I recently purchased a 2003 jeep grand cherokee overland over the summer of 2008. i live in mn and it is rather cold here. around october the heat in my jeep when out, i took it into the shop and they told me it was the "blend door" that was causing the problems and its going to be $800 to fix it because removal of the dash is required and there is a lot of labor for a part that only costs $50. i have been doing my research and it seems this is a very common problem for jeep owners and it is actually quite common when you reach around 60,000-80,000 miles my car had 74,000. i go to college and don't have that kind of money to fix it right now and i live in a very cold state, im very upset with jeep right now if problems like this are happening to people something should be done about it. *tr

My passenger side window regulator went up and my window just fell. i've done a lot of research and there are a lot of complaints for the regulators in the jeep limited and other models. i think they should be recalled because this problem is very common occurrence. *tr

Problem with visibility, defroster, both blend doors are broken, due to a defective part, there is no heat or defrosting on this vehicle. 2003 grand cherokee, i can not drive in cold temps with no heat, or defrost on windshield this is a safety hazard no help from jeep, cost to determine what repair needed $100 & then repair is over $1000 and involves removing entire dash to replace these parts. please assist jeep owners with this very common defect. *tr
