Recently reported VISIBILITY problems on 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The climate control system has been making irregular noises. then today it got stuck and the passenger side was only blowing hot and the driver was still adjustable.*tr

The air control system in the 2003 jeep grand cherokee is faulty and fails. they already have a fix for this known faulty system but the repair does not fix the solution, it only delays it till it breaks again. some aftermarket companies are making lots of money off of people who are trying to fix the problem permanently. the company should make the permanent repair a recall as the system can fail at an inopportune time and can lead to accidents when the windshield can fog up and the defroster will not work. the system can also fail such that the parts can fall into the fan motor and cause it to overheat possibly causing a fire. these vehicles are frequently used by families because of their size and steps should be taken to fix this problem once and for all. *tr

1. nothing i did besides driving this jeep. 2. everyday 24/7 3. nothing has been done to fix this problem because i cant afford it. 2003 jeep blend door issue, live in oregon and with no defrost and only vehicle i can drive at the moment is very dangerous. it get really cold here and snows throughout the winter. dangerous and freezing cold... *tr

I have a 2003 jeep grand cherokee and on july 3, 2008, i was out of town and when i stopped at a convenience store, my nephew who was sitting in the passenger rear got out also and as we started to walk towards the store we heard a pop and we looked around the vehicle and noticed the rear passenger window was down which was odd because i live in arizona and on that day it was 117 degrees outside. i tried to put the window up and it would not go up. after calling the dealer i was told it was the window regulator, i did research on the internet and found this to be a common problem on jeeps and daimler chrysler has had many complaints by consumers mentioned on the discussion boards and no resolution to cure this problem with the window regulators. it cost $400 for the repair of the window regulator. *tr

Turned on my heater in the mountains and only cold air blew out. did some research and seem to be a major problem with all jeep cherokees 1998 - 2003. *tr

Heater stuck on defrost. *tr

Ac/heat fan stopped working. someone mentioned the blend door assym. a $1200 repair. this is the second time this was repaired. vehicle is a 2003 jeep grand cherokee limited. *tr

Heater or defrost does not work right because of a blend door failure and is very unsafe. upon checking around how to fix i ran across thousands of others having same problem and costing them $1200-$1900 to get fixed and it should be a recall to get repaired. it is just not right and very unsafe! *tr

While driving my 2003 jeep grand cherokee, in cold conditions, i found that the ac/heater output was insufficient to keep the windshield defrosted and defogged, resulting in extremely unsafe driving conditions. the fan works, but no air comes out. i researched the problem and found that it is due to a blend-door defect, common to that model/year jeep. the vehicle has approx. 72,000 miles on it. i can't safely drive the vehicle in cold conditions until this is fixed. this repair is estimated to be between $900 -$1200. if this is such a widespread problem with this vehicle, i find it difficult to understand why there isn't a recall by deimler-chrysler to repair this. how many deaths will it take before this gets the true attention it deserves? *tr

My 2003 jeep grand cherokee ltd is having problems with the defroster, the heater, and air conditioner. it has driver and passenger climate controls. initially, the passenger side stopped functioning. eventually, the driver side heat and air stopped working. the defroster is barely working and only on the fan control. *tr

Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower loss of half of the heater control and ability to regulate the temperature. after phone calls to repair shops, i was told to expect the rest of it to stop working if not corrected soon, as this is a 'common" problem with 1999-2004 grand cherokees. estimates were in excess of $1,000.00. loosing the ability to regulate the temperature to defrost windows in winter(wisconsin) and not being able to keep my three year old son warm is a huge problem for me and should be for the manufacturer. a tsb was issued on 01/20/04 for these issues, and it was recommended to replace the respective sub-assembly if any parts were to be replaced. they knew of the issue and nothing was done. hope to find a dealer to help me with this so we can have heat again. hoping to not have the same poor service that i received when i had to fix the power steering, tsb's on that, no info from the dealer on that when asked, along with being quoted for the wrong parts. *tr

Blend door broken. cost to fix $1700.*tr

Passenger side of car blows cold air from all vents, including the defroster vent. this is due to a broken blend door on the passenger side of the vehicle. this is most certainly a safety hazard due to the fact that i can only see out of half of my windshield when it is cold outside. thousands are having this same "design flaw" problem while chrysler sits by and does nothing. the cost to fix this common problem is ~$1000. if chrysler is aware that this is a design flaw, yet continues to ignore the safety issues associated with it, then we have a major lack of corporate responsibility. *tr

1. the heating stopped working in my 2003 jeep grand cherokee 2. no heat and nor ac in the entire vehicle 3. part that needed to be replaced is the blend door. the part itself costs $90. but the labor cost over $1,000! *tr

Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower my heater is blowing cold air on driver's side/passenger takes a long time to blow heat. ac (air conditioning is also failing) receiving these codes: 52...........................ai (recirc) door travel too large 54...........................left temperature door travel too large the problem with the jeep grand cherokee limited is a design problem. the system uses a stepper motor that detects the extents of movement by hitting a resistance point at the open and close point. the system is designed with a small plastic pin on the door connection pin that breaks over time. when the pin breaks, the resistance point occurs when the door hits the extents of the open and close position. the door is not designed to handle this force and eventually the door itself actually breaks. please note we are currently in -3 celsius weather in mississauga, ontario, canada. i will be taking my 2003 jeep grand cherokee in for warranty service. if this is not covered under warranty i am looking at a bill to fix between $300-$1500 canadian. after going to dealership with warranty claim will call 1-800# and provide details from dealership visit. this can be considered a safety defect since could affect defrosting of windshield while driving. also very uncomfortable to drive with no heat (in winter) and no ac (in summer) please respond to my complaint asap. thank you i have read several posts on the internet that jeep from 1998-2004 all have the same problem. update: i have received service for jeep on january 21, 2008 i have put in a complaint on jan. 21/08 reference # 17140103 issue was blend door fault. the blender door on left side was melted. parts replaced: 05012743 housing 24-028-025 05134353 housing 24-028-025 total parts and labor $473.27 please followup with chrysler why this is a not a recall. jeep is not drivable in this condition. *tr

Broken blend doors and re cir door. *tr

I bought this car from a dealership and within 2 weeks afterwards the window regulator broke. i had the window up and when i got home i was wondering why i could hear wind on the way home and i opened up the driver side rear door and the window fell on me. i called around and had it looked at to make sure i knew what it was. i had my personal mechanic take a look at it and he said the same thing that the chrysler dealer said that it was the window regulator. i have done nothing to it because i can't afford to get this hunk of junk fixed and i found out that this jeep was in an accident and repaired by chrysler at a dealership and on the same side that they had to work on this happens and they won't cover the cost psssh. obviously they don't care about the hurting american worker. *tr

Cold air started to come out of heater vents on driver's side even though heater was set on heat. this happened on a journey in a ice storm. wind shield could not be cleared and a dangerous level of visibility caused me to stop driving. i was told be a mechanic that the heater blend doors had failed (broken) and that this is a very common problem with the jeep grand cherokee 02-04 model year. this is potentially a disastrous safety issue that chrysler corporation are fully aware of. a dealer repair is quoted at over $1400! *tr

Climate control system on 2003 jeep grand cherokee limited (32,000 miles) will not direct heated air to passenger side of vehicle resulting in very limited visibility to right side/front of vehicle during cold weather. "blend door" has been identified as reason for problem. should be repaired/fixed by dealer. *tr

Visibility:deroster/defogger system:windshield:blower factory defect in the blend door. no heat coming out on the passenger side, only cold air. have lost visibility of entire passenger side wind shield during winter conditions. very dangerous, almost got in an accident because i couldn't see since the windshield froze up and i didn't have warm air coming out of the passenger defrost. *tr

Loud pop in drivers windows - plastic gear broke again! *tr

Failure to defrost front window during cold weather = impossible to see traffic. *tr

Blend air door failure. repaired by jeep dealership. repair failed again in 6 months. steering column noise. failure of repair (tsb) in 2 months. *tr

(1) clicking noise coming from passenger dash area. (2) blend door failure, resulting in the loss of heat on the passenger side. when heat is turned on ice cold air blows on the passenger side. (3) dealership wants $1500.00 to fix this (common) problem that has happened on thousands of grand cherokees. no recall has been issued to date. *tr

The passenger side of my jeep was blowing cold air. i took my jeep to the dealer and was told that the temp door and fresh air doors were broken. he also stated that this was a common problem with my jeep. also, the drivers side heated seat was very hot when it was on the low setting. they found that the heater grid had a short in the circuit. the sum of all repairs was $954.60. *tr

I own a 2003 jeep grand cherokee limited v8, my heater does not work the blower does but there is no heat at all. *tr

On wednesday night, i was driving my '03 jeep grand cherokee overland in a moderate-to-dense fog around 11:00 pm. the heater had not been working for the last couple of weeks, so i was using the heated seats whenever it was cold out. i was unaware that the defroster vents would also not be working until that night. i was unable to drive home without having to keep the windows down while i stuck my head out to see. *tr

The automatic climate control blows only cold air. this is a problem experienced by 1999 - 2004 jeep grand cherokees. the climate control does not function properly and does not provide proper warm air to the defroster causing window fogging. *tr

My 2003 jeep grand cherokee with electronic dual climate controls and 66,000 miles will only blow cold air. both blend doors are stuck on full-cold. the fault severely limits my ability to defrost/defog my windshield. according to industry experts i've talked to, the fault is common to all 1999-2004 jeep grand cherokees. the repairs are exorbitant; estimated at $1,600 to $1,800. *tr

I have the same problem as thousands of other 2003 grand cherokee limited owners, a blend door malfunction, which causes the passenger side of the vehicle to blow cold air even if the heat is selected at hi. the problem was noticed at 68,000 k and my estimate for repair is $1,000.00. it is dangerous to drive in bad weather as the defrost only works on the drivers side. but on the bright side the air works really good in july when i don't need four wheel drive. *tr

Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower. *tr

I bought the 2003 jeep in march of 2007 with 19,000 miles. it was certified that everything worked correctly. i am the sole driver and rarely have a passenger additionally, my wife and i used to commute with our other vehicle(honda) until her schedule changed. therefore, we never tested the passenger side heat. now, it does not work and even though the car has only 22,000 miles, jeep says they will not fix. i don't believe it worked from the start and i have read numerous complaints on the internet of similar problems. i spoke to the dealer and chrysler and both were rude and unhelpful. they say we should have bought an extended warranty. does everything require and extended warranty? can't we expect someone level of quality with having to buy more warranty? i believe the heat system should last more than 22,000 miles. *tr

I put the heat on in my 2003 jeep grand cherokee only to find cold air blowing from every passenger side vent (the floor, the dash, & the defrost). i called 2 jeep dealerships regarding the problem and they both informed me that it is a blend door issue which will cost $1000 to $1400 in order to fix. after searching the internet, i've found that many other people have run into the same exact situation. *tr

I have dual automatic temp. control. i can vary the heat on the drivers side but the passenger side only gives off cold air no matter the temperature setting. *tr

i am experiencing the same "door blend" malfunction that thousands of others are experiencing. one day the substandard vent door for the passenger side climate control broke, and since then only cold air blows from those vents as well as the windshield defroster. the defroster worries me the most as without a clear windshield my vision is thus impaired and could potentially lead to a deadly accident. i have spoke to a jeep dealership who informed me that it is a very common problem and it would cost me upwards of $1,200.00 to fix. after checking the internet i see thousands of other jeep owners with the exact same problem, yet no factory recall. jeep needs to fix this problem for its customers before dangerous or deadly accidents occur! *tr

2003 jeep grand cherokee limited - no heat on driver's side - passenger side heat is still working. i checked the codes for this problem and it seems to be related to the "blend doors" located in the heating/cooling vehicle ductwork. i also did a great deal of checking via the internet to see if there were other jeep owners having this same problem. to my surprise, i found that there were a great many other jeep owners all complaining about the exact same problem. it also appears that this is a very costly repair (i saw where people had paid as much as $1800.00 to get their heaters working correctly). this is not just a comfort problem (drivers and passengers being too hot or too cold), since it also effects the windshields defogger/defroster ability, which of course, can lead to an actual dangerous driving condition. with so many jeep owners experiencing this exact same problem, it's clear that this is a major manufacturer defect and should lead to a recall to repair the problem at no charge to the owner. *tr

Visibility:defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower. *tr

i get cold air on the driver's side and hot air on the passenger side. the dealer said it was the blend door, it's a common problem with jeep .. *tr

I have a 2003 jeep grand cherokee limited with automatic climate control, and 1 week ago i tried to use the heat and had nothing. i have blower functions, but it only blows cold air. i then got on the internet to find that all grand cherokee owners are being or soon will be affected. i also called some local dealerships to discuss with them. i found that there is service bulletins and new parts that were developed for this issue. i also found that the repair requires complete replacement of the hvac sub assembly at the cost of $900-$1200. they also say that because my heat died at 44000 miles that the warranty is up and they will not help unless i pay. the biggest problem with this issue is that with no heat, i can not defrost my windshield, or even the whole car. i drive 20 miles to work one way, on i-69, from indianapolis to noblesville, and i cannot imagine what it will be like on freezing, snowing day. please research this and the other complaints in regard of this failure and make chrysler corp. do the right thing and fix this problem, before someone gets hurt or killed this winter. *jb

Blend doors failed leaving my vehicle without functional defrost function. i took care of this before winter where visibility would undoubtedly be affected. *tr

My ventilation system in my 2003 grand cherokee making noise, blowing cold air, for about a year now it started on one side first the passg.side, so we put duck tape on the vents to keep the cold air from coming in and had a think blanket for my wife to keep warm that was last year on this year both side just blows cold air we dont know what to do dealer saids it cost about 1000-1500 to fixes we cant aford that can you please help. also i replaces the blower resitor 3x already. *tr

Good day, i'm filing a complaint with my 2002 jeep grand cherokee. the heat has stop working. first it was the passenger side that stopped working and now simply no heat comes out at all. after extensive web researching, i have found a shocking number of fellow jeep owners have the same problem, stemming back to 1990 models. apparently the "blend actuators" are defective and start to go out one side at a time, finishing with the main actuator failing causing no heat what so ever!! repair facilities all state the same thing: entire dash must be removed to replace two-three different actuators costing an owner in excess of close to $1000.00. this is not acceptable and extravagant!! from the number of complaints i see on a simple web search, i'm not the only one who feels this way! *tr

2003 jeep grand cherokee - passenger side heater blend door failure -- always blows cold air on passenger side. this is a very common problem with the 1999-2004 wj. chrysler canada has refused to do anything to help me fix this without paying $1400 as my dealership (tower chrysler in calgary, ab) has quoted. vehicle was just out of warranty when this occurred. see the following site for an example of what you would find when you search for "blend door" on google: http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/showthread.php?t=771954 *tr

April of 2006 i purchased my 2003 jeep grand cherokee overland. about 2weeks after i purchased the vehicle, i noticed that the heater was not working properly. i took the vehicle back to the dealer where they informed me that the blend doors where broken or not working properly and it would cost approximately $1000 to fix and would not be covered under the extended warranty i purchased. i had to go through the various levels of management until they finally agreed to repair the vehicle. just over 1 year later in august of 2007, i noticed that the ability to direct air to specific vents, stopped working, now the air just blows into the dash. i have gone back to the dealer, where they told me that the problem is the recirculate door, which was suppose to be changed when the blend doors where replaced, according to their "technical service bulletin", which was not done when the blend doors where replaced. the cost to do the repair would be approximately $1000 because they have to go through the same process as when the blend doors where replaced, except this time they will replace the recirculate doors. i really didn't realize the safety issue these components posed, until i drove in a snow climate. it was impossible to defrost the windshield. i literally had to reach forward wipe the windshield every couple of minutes while driving in order to see. it was extremely unsafe. these failed components are not considered luxury features, such as ac, it's considered a safety feature. there is an unusually high level of complaints of people experiencing the very same problem with their jeep grand cherokees, and chrysler has yet to address the problem. defrosters are a safety feature. in cold climates you cannot operate the vehicle safely without them. when is the manufacturer held responsible for faulty parts that pose a safety risk? does something have to happen? does someone have to get injured, possibly worse? the dealerships are capitalizing the consumers are hurting. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 jeep grand cherokee. the contact heard a popping noise coming from the passenger side power window when she attempted to roll it up. in addition, the window would not move. the dealer stated that the motor failed and they replaced the motor. approximately three months later, the failure recurred on the driver side front window. the dealer stated that the motor failed and they made the replacement. the current and failure mileages were 52,000. updated 10/10/07 *tr

I own a 2003 jeep grand cherokee limited with 105k miles. i am the second owner. we purchased the jeep second hand from sheehy ford mercury in ashland virginia on january 15th 2007. the part failure appears to be a very common problem on the jeep models with dual climate control based on the hundreds of online forums describing similar problems with the hvac "recirc" doors and the "blend" doors. my problem was the recirc door had broken loose and had fallen down covering the vent system entirely, in effect, we had no heat, no a/c and most importantly, no defrost. virginia state law requires that the vehicle must have defrost to pass the state safety inspection. i did the repair myself after reading how daimler/chrysler has completely ignored the design fault. now, anyone who has these model jeep's will have to pay $1200.00 and up for a repair that breaks again due to the same problem using the same faulty parts. the plastic door stops break off first, then due to the poor design, the door finally breaks off and falls down blocking all airflow from the heating and air system. a recall needs to be issued to fix the problem. i ordered from ebay, two kits from someone in texas who offers replacement stainless steel hardware that replaces the recirc doors and blend doors. the kits cost me $232.00 dollars and about 16 hrs labor along with bloody knuckles. i decided to not waste time going to a dealer and getting denied repairs due to no recall. the kits i used were called heatertreater. i repaired both recirc and blend doors even though the blend doors were not a problem yet. please, please someone force daimlerchrysler to face reality and fix this safety problem. *tr

Air mixer door failure causes cold air to come out of the defroster and fogs the windshield up. *tr

Vehicle has no heat or windshield defrost functions at all. had not previously used vehicle until later in day so had not noticed failure which was now apparent from purchase in april 2007. will be unable to use beyond summer months without major expenditure estimated to be between $1,000 & $2,000. *tr

Extremely cold air began blowing from vents when heat was on. this malfunction prevents the windows from defrosting destroying the visibility from the windshield and driver and passenger windows. *tr

I own a 2003 jeep grand cherokee limited with 67.900 miles. the events leading up to the failure of the ventilation system were (1) rapid fogging of front windsheild,(2) fogging of front passenger windows,(3) failure of passenger heat while still maintaining driver heat function, and (4) only cold air release on passenger side of jeep. consequently,(1) the windsheild and front windows do not defog, and (2) no heat whatsoever comes from the passenger side floor and dashboard ventilation system. to correct this problem, a blend air door"is necessary at a cost of approximately $850 ,inclusive of 7+ hours of labor. according to the certified service department at the local jeep dealer and online forums this has become a very common problem for 2000-2004 jeep grand cherokee limiteds with duel zone ventilation systems.*ak
