Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC problems on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

While driving at any speed and applying brakes vehicle will experience a "bounce" in front wheels, and stopping distance increased due to poor performance of the braking system. dealership has examined the vehicle three times for this problem ,and replaced the brake pads and rotors. these repairs have failed to remedy the problem. please provide any additional information/attachments.*ak

Break rotors overheated and warped twice within 16000 miles. *ak

Brake rotors are problem not corrected by dealers, transmisson same, unsafe vehicle. *ak

Multiple problems with front brakes. *ak

Front brake rotors warp. i have replaced them twice and had them cut once, and it happends every 6,000 miles or so.*ak

After owning this vehicle for just over 19 months, we have had to have the main computer replaced as well as new front brake rotors 2 times. the first time we had to replace the rotors we had owned the car for a little over a year. now, the second time we're replacing the rotors after only 7 months. the brake rotors warp and cause sever "shimmying" while braking, this leads to less control of the vehicle and delayed stopping. this problem causes a hazard to both the passengers of the defective vehicle and to those driving around it. these vehicles need to be recalled and the defect needs to be corrected right. thank you for your time and your help.*ak

First time chrysler replaced the front rotors free of charge. the second time i was told that was not covered under warrenty and all three of four rotors were turned at my cost. the third time i had a local garage turn all four rotors due to warpage. the car now is starting to show warpage again. the steering wheel shakes uncontrollable when braking at 60 mph with the warped rotors. i have written a letter to chrysler and they have stated "not covered under warrenty and that they have not heard of any problems". central garage told me that they see alot of jeeps like mine with warped rotors. i have contacted other jeep garages and they all stated that they see alot of my style of jeep with warped rotors. this is major safety feature on my car and i feel that chrysler should engineer a solution. i shouldn't have to have my brakes repaired every 5-6000 miles to keep my car safe to drive and spend $400-$500 to do so. *ak

When brakes are applied they would shimmy, but vehicle could stop. had taken vehicle to dealership, and mechanic machined rotors and replaced pads. on 12 feb 01, after 9,834 miles, shimming problem with brakes returned. took back to dealership, and mechanic replaced both front rotors. on 07 aug 01 at 14,142 miles, shimmying problem returned again. same replacement was done. rotors not under any warranties.*ak consumer also stated that left front door was making a noise.*jb

Regarding the brakes: after repeated (3 times) complaints about the brake pedal going all the way to the floor (when driven under stop and go commuter-type traffic) and each time there was "no trouble found" i finally (on 7/29/2000) drove into the dealership with the pedal all the way down to the floor. a mechanic was called and said there was definitely a problem and they summized "it must be the master cylinder". with respect to the engine: after repeated complaints (at least 3 times) of oil leaking from under the engine and having it dismissed as 1) sloppy oil change, excess oil from left on engine block, 2) faulty oil filter, 3) rear main engine seal (rear main was replaced) and continuing to have oil leaks, on 7/29/2000, i brought it in and the dealership says the engine is "porous" and the entire engine needs replacement. i was advised to not take the vehicle due to the brake issue. the vehicle is at the dealership awaiting arrival of a new engine and replacement and also installation of the master cylinder. with respect to the differential whine, i have been told twice "it is normal" and nothing will be done.. *ak

Front brakes develop a tremendous shudder within approx 7,500 to 10,000 miles of rotor and pad change, rotors are always warped beyond repair in what has been characterized as rotor run out. even with proper pin lubrication and maintenance brakes become severely dangerous in short period of time. my jeep has 85,000 miles on it and i have changed rotors and pads seven times!!! *nlm

Steering squeak or moan when turning, evident since day of purchase, vehicle is now one year old. repaired numerous times but still not fixed. other vehicle problems includes warped rotors at 14000miles, dealership replaced front rotors.*ak

When applying brakes at any speed vehicle vibrates and is very noisy. dealer informed consumer theat computer was malfunctioning, and to drive slowly until he could get the part. consumer has been back to dealer 3 times. dealer said he was still waiting for parts, did not specify.*ak

Front rotors have been turned and grounded 3 times due to vibration in steering wheel when braking. vehicle shakes when braking. dealer determined rotors needed to be replaced at this time.*ak consumer stated that the front and rear brake rotors have replaced twice and turned once. *yh

Fuel was leaking from tail pipe, and fumes entered the passenger's compartment. dealer replaced fuel injector and power control module. *ak *ml

Brakes are a safety hazard when braking at highway speed vibrates and shakes with no control between 57 to 50 miles per hour. *ak

When braking a vibration is felt in the pedal. this first occurred at approximately 8,000 miles. the brake disc was turned and new pads installed under waranty. the same problem occurred at approximately 16,000 miles. daimler chrysler is now saying this is not a waranty item because the vehicle has over 12,000 miles. there is an obvious defect with the front brakes. the solution is not to keep turning the disks and installing new pads. after 3 turns the disks will have to be replaced and this will likely happen after the vehicle is passed the 3 year 36,000 mile warranty period. *ak

Due to problems with rotors steering will start to shake. consumer has had rotors replaced twice already. contacted dealer, and the dealer knew about problem, but would not fix it for free.*ak

Front rotors have been replaced 3 times/ were resurfaced once, and rear rotors were replaced once due to vibration in vehicle.*ak consumer stated that the pcv valve failed, fuel filter failed, and front shocks leaking fluid and replaced front shocks, also the transmission pan was leaking fluid, wiper blades were replaced.*yd

When applying brakes there is pulsation and steering wheel shakes. front rotors were turned at 10000 miles, then replaced. at this time, rotors needed replacement again due to warping.*ak

Rotors had to be turned three times after every 7000 - 7500 miles due to heat build up in rotors when slowing down from highway speeds. this heat build up was causing rotors to warp, and vibration in vehicle. dealership at first replaced brake pads in an effort to reduce heat build up. however, since then, had only turned rotors. please provide any additional information/attachments.*ak

Rear differential: complete lockup at 55 mph !!! as i traveled down a county hwy to just outside of town after work. almost killed 2 pedestrians as the back end skidded 100 ft in complete lockup, dealer replacing the rear axle and looking at the front differential since it seems to have problems caused by this sudden failure of the back. brakes: i have had rotors turned 3 times (twice by dealer under warranty and once by independent shop) and since purchased complete new rotors and pads on all 4 tires work by midas due to severe pulsation when braking. i have noticed lots of complaints for exactly the same thing on internet. jay laszewski dt

When braking at highway speed vehicle shimmies and the steering wheel vibrates. dealer replaced both front rotors 3 times with in 2 years. first time at 12000 miles. rotors need to be replaced again.*ak

Brake rotors warp and warp and warp. a $30,000 car/suv with a braking system that is a total engineering failure. now with 40,000 miles, i've had the brake rotors turned three times! the dealer would do nothing the first time because brakes were not covered on the warranty. i'll never buy another jeep.*ak

Front rotors have warped 5 times since buying the vehicle. *ak

2000 jeep grand cherokee brake rotors continue to warp causing severe pulsation in steering wheel during braking, particularly at higher speeds. i believe the problem is due to a design flaw which began in the 1999 model and has not yet been corrected in new models. daimler-chrylser will not solve the problem, the local dealership in boise is keenly aware of the problem. first warping occurred on all 4 brake rotors under 4900 miles. front rotors have been replaced 3 times and resurfaced twice, back rotors resurfaced once and replaced once, all within 36000 miles. i am concerned that my family and others on the road are at risk if i am unable to stop and/or control the vehicle. *ak

When braking experiencing violent vibration during deaceleration/ rotors are warped at 26,000 miles. driving conditions experienced by vehicle are 80% highway driving.

Brakes failed. yh

The consumer is experienced a recurring problem with the brakes. the problems are as followed: shimmying, squeaking/squealing in the brake system, shimmy/shake in the steering wheel, and warped rotors. the vehicle is was still under warranty, but the consumer was told that there was no way possible that this problem could be covered by warranty, and learned from the dealer that they are aware of the problem, which is a caliper problem. (which indicates that the problem will occur again) the rotors were refaced and resurfaced, and the pads were resurfaced. refer to odi#768226 *scc

Consumer states the front and back brakes wear excessively, without excessive use. dealer contacted.*jb consumer adds brakes had to be changed three times within the last three years. owner of dealership is not willing to do anything. *tt

I have talked with several people who have had the same problem. they have had to get the front rotors ground because the rotors cause a terrible vibration when we push down on the brakes. dt

Rotors warp while consumer is driving, causing brake pads to heat up. then when going through water pads quickly cool down. this has occurred on his 1998, grand, cherokee. notified dealer.*ak *slc

Dt: since the purchase of the vehicle, especially on the highway, there wa s vibration and shimmying when braking,. had the rotors turned, replaced, and turned again. in may 2004 found that all of the rotors were warped. in november 2004, they did find a very slight vibration, but they did nothing about it. took vehicle to dealership 5 times, and is taking was back in next week. this resulted in replacing the tires early.*ak

Front brake rotors warped at 9,000 miles, resurfaced, warped again by 18,000 miles, rotors and pads replaced. warped again by 23,000 miles, dealer refused to fix. warp caused pulsation and steering wheel wobble.*ak

The front diskcbrake rotors are warping causing the front of the vehicle to wobble and braking very rough.*ak

Rotors on all four brakes continually overheat and warp out of shape. chrysler turned the rotors on the rear brakes the first and then turned the rotors on the front. they were warped again with in 3 or 4 thousand miles. chrysler then replaced the rotors with a new material ??? and they lasted until about 22000 miles. then they started to wobble again.*ak

Front wheels shimmy violently when braking at 40-50 mph causing the car to be hard to control. this is caused by rotor overheating and warping due to design defect. there was 75% pad remaining at 15,000 mile service, i have towing package, and i have never towed anything. therefore my driving habits are not to blame. this is an extremely unsafe design defect that does not provide sufficient cooling. this is a known problem that jeep is ignoring.

The first week i owned my brand new vehicle, it started clunking and jerking. several weeks later, they replaced the drive shaft. i continue to have similar and other problems with the transmission, gear shifting, brakes, etc...i inquired of the dealership whether or not there were any reported manufacturers defects and they said no. they lied.

Continual problem with brakes. warped rotors, numerous pad replacement, problem causes severe vibration when braking, and causes vehicle to jerk. also now is shifting after coming to a stop while in drive, feels like vehicle has been hit in rear. *ak
