Recently reported ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING problems on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Have been noticing vibration of the radiator cooling fan when a/c turned on. while backing out of drive, heard pop noise from engine compartment. pulled into drive, opened hood and found that radiator fan had disintegrated, piercing radiator shroud and radiator. holes in radiator (radiator now leaking) and shroud. called chrysler recall center and told that this was not covered by recall 06v199000. am replacing all affected parts and performing service myself. based on online research this is very common problem with this model and should be included under above mentioned recall. *tr

I own a 2000 jeep grand cherokee with safety recall #f25 (electric fan). on october 20, 2010, i went to the auto repair shop due to a coolant leakage. the repair shop inspected the vehicle and noticed the leak was caused by a damaged radiator due to the electric fan breaking into pieces and causing the leakage. i paid them $259.00 for the new radiator. i was informed of the safety recall and i decided to go to the riverdale chrysler jeep located at 5869 broadway bronx ny 10463. after a general inspection they noticed the shroud was also damaged and refused to repair/replace stating that it was not covered. i am requesting full coverage of all related parts and labor as this was caused by the fan failure. i am further requesting a reimbursement for the cost of the new installed radiator and i can furnish a receipt as proof. the parts department employee handling my vehicle is [xxx] employee [xxx]tel# 718 548-3400 ext#305. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). Plastic fan blades of the electric radiator fan have fracture and separate on my vehicle,it has cause the vehicle to overheat, plus it damage the radiator,2000 jeep grand cherokee ,i have been told that it does not cover my vehicle, but other of the same year,i have the same problem. or on recall. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 40 mph, there was a slight explosion sound. the contact moved the vehicle from the roadway and found that the fan blade, radiator and other under hood components were broken. the vehicle was towed to the dealer in which the vehicle was purchased. the dealer replaced the fan blade, radiator, hoses and connectors. the contact was able to locate nhtsa campaign id number: 06v199000 (engine and engine cooling: cooling system: fan) and when contacting the manufacturer, he was told his vin was not included in the recall. the failure mileage was 140,000 and the current mileage 141,000.

I own a 2000 jeep grand cherokee, over the past 6 months it will just shutdown going down the highway. it does not matter what speed or even if you are sitting at a red light. jeep dealership replaced the crank sensor and said that was my problem. it shutdown again on the way home from the dealership. i returned with the jeep and all they could tell me was they don't know what the problem is. my jeep will act like it has lost all electrical to it, all the gauges will fall to the left. after you turn if off sometimes it will restart and other times you have to sit there from anywhere to 5-15 minutes. *tr

I own a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. my wife was picking up my kids, when the car began to shake and then overheated. i took my car the mechanic, who told me that the radiator fan was defective and had to be replaced. he told me that this was a common problem with the grand cherokee. i looked at your website, and discovered that there was a recall on this part, but only for certain vin numbers. i paid $735 dollars to replace the defective part, and chrysler/jeep said they will not reimburse me because of my vin number. they told me to contact the nhtsa to find out why my jeep wasn't covered, since they had no other information for me. i know that the grand cherokee from 1999 to 2004 has the same exact parts and body and i don't understand why my jeep isn't covered under the recall when this is a known problem. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo. while driving 35 mph the vehicle stalled and shut off. when the vehicle shuts off, it becomes difficult to restart it. the vehicle has not been diagnose by the dealer or a local mechanic. the contact is concerned about the safety risk since her life is in jeopardy while driving if a crash occurred. the failure mileage was 120,000.

I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee.. i have the same as all other 2000 jgc owners are having. been using coolant every few weeks needs to be topped off.. fan was replace due to recall. had to replace fan control under headlight. last year was overheating. replaced water pump/ thermostat. overheating again. just replaced thermostat today. did not fix the problem. transmission has been shifting hard for the past year and a half. i replaced parts in transmission as suggested by dealer. but it did not fix problem..replaced radiator around may of 09 still having cooling problems. i replaced so many sensors that have failed that i cant remember them all. i still have 1 more year of payments on this vehicle.. its hard to make payments when i have been buying so many parts to try to keep this car running. bad door seals, they are too small (short or shrinking) it lets water come in back passenger area. always smells musty inside.. black mold in the rainy season. taillight brake light on one only works part time. replaced 3 door latches. including one on rear hatch. *tr

My jeep only have 68,000 mile, now all my light are on because of this fan recall. i belive it over heated and has caused this to happin, i live 5-min from my job. i only go from home and back to work ,i need it fixed. just repairing fan does not resolved other problems. thank you year 2000 yc319900 electric radiator fan cause car to stop runing. but will start back up. *tr

Coolant loss with no leaks found dealer don't want to find problem. mechanic says aii 2000 models are doing it and chrysler will not fix problem. mechanic said to sell it and make it somebody else's problem. mechanic said i6 head cracks, fan relay goes bad, radiator cracks and chrysler don't want to stand behind there product and fix it. *tr

There is no heat blowing on driver side but heat on passenger side. *tr

The radiator fan blades on my 2000 jeep grand cherokee fractured and separated while the motor was running. this is consistent with nhtsa campaign id number: 06v199000 and corresponding daimlerchrysler recall no. f25, however, this recall was only for vehicles built from january 31, 2000 through june 12, 2000. my jeep was constructed in december of 1999 so my fan is not included in this recall. i'd like clarification on why model year 2000 jeep grand cherokee's that were built in december of 1999 are not included in the recall even thought the engineering and construction of the recalled item and corresponding fracture and separation of the radiator fan are the same. *tr

Jeep 2000 grand cherokee laredo inline 6cyl i recently experienced low coolant and oil pressure problems. i had the water pump replaced, the oil sensor switch replaced, and the oil pump replaced. the repairs were done individually in that order. i am still experiencing low coolant although the car does not seem to overheat. i recently had a pressure test and there were no leaks. when the car is started in the morning i have the proper oil pressure. as soon as the car warms up the oil pressure fluctuates and eventually activates the alert indicator (bell sound). the engine sounds fine and there are no performance problems. i brought the car back to the service station that did the repairs. the mechanic suggested that i use a heavier oil for the pressure problem. i will let you know the results. this may be the last attempt before an engine overhaul. jeep should have a recall for these problems. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. the radiator fan broke without warning. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic for repairs. there was an existing recall on the radiator fan; however, the vin is not a part of the recall. the contact is aware of the safety risk including the possibility that someone could sustain an injury from parts of the fan. the current and failure mileages were 130,000. when the fan broke, pieces flew into the radiator and damaged it beyond repair. the radiator and fan had to be replaced. updated 10/27/09*jb

I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo, with a 4.0 liter inline 6 cylinder, and doing a bit or research i have found that is common on this car to have a overheating problem, due to cracked cylinder head which is a major job...to fix this problem will cost about $ 3000.00. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact placed the vehicle into park. when she restarted it, the vehicle operated normally. the failure has occurred a total of ten times. both the dealer and a private mechanic could not determine the cause of the failure. the contact feels that this is a huge safety issue because a crash could occur. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 103,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the seatbelts don't retract. he also experienced failures with the fog light and the cooling fan. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic for diagnostic testing with the cooling fan failure and the mechanic replaced the radiator; but, the failure wasn't corrected. report 19961050 was filed with the manufacturer who stated that the vehicle wasn't included in recall 06v199000 engine and engine cooling: cooling system: fan and they would reimburse him for the repairs. the vehicle wasn't repaired. the failure mileage was 83,000 and the current mileage was 94,000.

The engine shuts down and the electrical system to start the car is shutdown while driving. i have had this happen to me numerous times and have not been able to find the resolution to it. it's a tremendous safety concern because it has happened to me while driving on several highways. the car attempts to turn over while trying to start it however none of the gauges are responding to the key in the ignition during turn over. i have read numerous forums with many people with the same problem. changes have been made to everything from sensor's to pcm ( main computer ) to resolve the problem. in my case the computer system isn't storing any codes with a problem. initially i changed the crank shaft position sensor because of the code but the problem continues to happen. to make matters worse because the entire system is shut down there is no power steering making it almost impossible to glide over to the shoulder. *tr

I have had a slow coolant leak for the last year and cannot figure out why. also the oil gauge is reading 0 at idle, but goes back to normal when driving. i also have had three different cylinder misfires in the last year. i have taken this vehicle to different repair shops and nobody can tell me where the coolant is going and if these are all related. i have replaced the water pump, oil pressure sensor switch, spark plugs, rail pack, spark plug boots, and thermostat. vehicle has 120k miles. *tr

2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4.0l inline 6 with cracked cylinder head (between #3 & 4) allowing coolant fluid to leak into engine. noticed coolant disappearing @90,000 miles. had pressure test by 2 different dealers. cracked cylinder head diagnosed by second dealer recently. problem appears to be a defect in the cylinder head casting #0331. discovered many other owners with same problem at carsurvey.org. under jeep cherokee reviews. please order a recall! i could not believe how many people have experienced the same scenario as myself on carsurvey.org website. *tr

2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo: cracked cylinder head. 143,000 miles. engine must be replaced. will cost $4,000. this engine problem sees to be extremely common. *tr

My 2000 jeep cherokee's electric fan broke and cut into the radiator. i did a search for recalls and there is a recall for this fan, but here is the real problem: the coolant fan relay switch module fails and the fan doesn't properly cool the engine, then the poorly designed head cracks between the #3 and #4 head and all the coolant seeps into the cylinder area where the coolant is burned. then without proper cooling, it destroys the engine. (recall to replace bad heads). *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 10 mph, the vehicle stalled. at higher speeds, there was some hesitation. occasionally, the vehicle would restart immediately and other times the contact would have to wait ten minutes. the dealer found no failures with the vehicle. the failure mileage was 81,700.

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 35 mph, the contact heard a loud ticking noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. she inspected the vehicle and noticed that the oil level was extremely low. there were no warning lights illuminated prior to the failure. the oil was changed in the vehicle two months prior to the failure. she took the vehicle to a local mechanic and was informed that the engine needed to be replaced at the cost of over $3,500. the vehicle has not been repaired. the vin was unknown. the failure and current mileages were 157,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo. the contact stated that the engine head was cracked between the cylinders. the check engine indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. the manufacturer stated that they did not want to repair the failure; therefore, the contact had to pay $3,500. the failure mileage was 37,800 and current mileage was 38,228. updated 12/11/08 *bf updated 12/11/08. *jb

My jeep has less than 90,000 miles and i have had it towed three times in one year for crank shaft censors jeep place replaced them each time supposedly. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 55 mph, the speed automatically reduced without the brake pedal being depressed. the vehicle stalled on the highway without warning and was towed to an independent mechanic. the mechanic stated that the failure was related to the fan motor. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure caused extensive damage to the engine. the contact experienced failures identical to the ones mentioned in the recall, but was displeased to discover that her vin was excluded from the recall defect. the contact is aware of the safety risk involved. the recall number was unknown. the failure and current mileages were 100,000.

Engine cooling system failure. replaced fan clutch, thermostat and water pump. engine still overheats at idle speed. just over 100,000 miles. *tr

Jeep grand cherokee, 2000' losing anti freeze with no obvious source of leak. now overheating to max temperature even though fully serviced with coolant. *tr

When i am idling or moving at a slow speed my temperature will rise causing my vehicle to over heat. i'm also losing coolant very fast but can not see where it is going. *tr

I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo that has multiple problems that many people have. they are not coincidental. i have the mysterious coolant loss that requires me to fill my jeep with coolant every three days. several mechanics have not found in leaks. however in hopes of fixing the problem, i had my water pump replaced, two days later....my low coolant indicator pops up. then my oil pressure is ridiculous going from zero to max and then making my check gauges light come on. had the oil pressure sensor replaced because it was supposedly leaking....still having my oil pressure gauge go crazy. my a/c has ceased working as well and now the passenger rear door lock doesn't want to cooperate. i am very upset to the fact that hundreds of people are having the same problems with the 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo. this vehicle must be recalled! this is a link to a forum of hundreds of people having the same issues. http://www.carsurvey.org/viewmorecomments_review_78839_2.html. *tr

I had a mysterious coolant leak from my 2000 jeep grand cherokee. i had the water pump checked and it was fine. i had to add coolant and water to my jeep everytime i went somewhere so it did not over-heat. i went to work and my jeep was starting to over-heat. after my 8 hour shift i put in 2 gallons of water into the radiator. it seemed fine until i got about a mile from my apartment when my jeep just stalled out. i had to get it towed back to my apartment. i had a mechanic come over and he thought i just blew a head gasket. as he went to replace it, he realized that my engine had blown up because of this problem. i do not have the money to fix this problem, also i still owe 7000 on it. *tr

All 2000 grand cl v6 have this problem with no recall. engine overheats, loses coolant & can't find leak. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 45 mph or idling, the vehicle shuts off. everything else in the vehicle continues to work, but the vehicle shuts down and will not restart until 10-15 minutes later. the failure is worsening and a diagnostic was performed; however, the cause of the failure was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 87,000.

My wife and i purchased a 2000 jeep grand cherokee from the dealership. about two years ago the 4.0 liter 6 cylinder engine started using coolant and causing the coolant light to alarm. the oil pressure would drop to "0" and sound the check gauges alarm. we took the car to the mechanic shop for costly repairs and troubleshooting. they replaced the water pump, couldn't find any leaks, and replaced the oil pump and rear main seal. they checked the bearing clearances and found them within tolerance. the car is still using one to two pints of coolant every three days and the oil continues to drop to "0" after warm-up. we replace the 4 wheel disc brakes and rotors every two years. the hood gas shocks won't hold the hood up and the shocks cost $150 a pair form the dealer and only last one year. we to have electric door locks that screech and don't lock the doors as well as rear light problems that work off and on. the emissions are much higher than normal on our recent smog test. this is an indication that the #3 and 4 cylinder is using the mysterious antifreeze loss. as a retired mechanical engineer i also believe the oil problem to be related. my wife has the grand cherokee and i purchased a tj wrangler new in 2000. i'm concerned this vehicle will develop the same problems having the same engine. we have invested over $50 thousand in these two cars. we need your help to help us offset this burden. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would sporadically stall without warning. speed was not a factor during the failures. the dealer replaced the crankshaft position sensors; however, the failure recurred three days later. he took the vehicle back to the dealer for a diagnosis, but no codes surfaced on the diagnostic machine. he called the manufacturer and is waiting for a response. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 76,000 and current mileage was 78,000.

Coolant loss two water pumps in 2 years 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo. *tr

My 2000 jeep grand cherokee is having problems like many other people. the low coolant light constantly comes on and i have to add coolant weekly, although there is no visible leak. mechanics have told me they cannot find the problem until this past week when a mechanic told me the coolant was leaking into my engine and mixing with my oil. the mechanic estimated i will need a completely new engine within a few months since the coolant-oil mixture has been running through my engine for some time now. the mechanic stated that the engine will stop running in the very near future. my rear left brake and tail light goes out when i step on the brakes. i have had several issues with the rotors and finally had the mechanic replace them with a different kind. *tr

Jeep grand cherokee, 2000 losing anti freeze and ac r134 with no obvious source of leak. fully serviced with coolant. anti freeze about 1/2 week. ac about a can every two weeks. *tr

I purchased a jeep grand cherokee brand new in the year of 2000. i've had nothing but problems with the heating of the vehicle. october of 2005 no heat on the passenger side. january 23,2007 the same problem and now again february 22, 2008 now it's the thermostat needed to be replaced. i'm wounding if this is a recall issue. also my recent recall about the electric radiator fan, i paid out of pocket $836.90 to replaced my radiator fan august 2, 2006. i think i should be reimbursed for that expensed because it was recalled after the fact. *tr

My jeep grand cherokee 2000 sporadically has power loss continued by a sudden acceleration, the problem is more frequently now too. *tr

I have a 200 jeep grand cherokee laredo and after reading many sites (blogs, complaint sites, etc.) i see that others are having the exact same problems i am. my jeep has 101,000 miles on it and it is experiencing coolant leaks and also the crack in the cylinder head between the 3rd and 4th cylinder. now the y way i see it, is that is soooooo many people are experiencing this problem then there should be a recall on it. it is not fair to the consumers that we are shelling out all of this money for a problem that is in the vehicle design. *tr

2000 jeep grand cherokee safety recall f25 - electric radiator fan. consumer states the fan was replaced in january 2008 for the second time because it would not shut off and feels that it should have been replaced at no cost since it was recalled previously . *nj the consumer also stated the transmission wouldn't shift into first gear. the dealer found a bad transmission valve body, 02 sensor and sync signal out of specifications. the upper and lower ball joints had to be replaced. updated 09/08/10*jb

Multiple times vehicle shuts off leaving driver with no power steering and light brakes. no check engine light or other way to diagnosis the issue. *tr
