Recently reported SUSPENSION problems on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

First: i had purchased this vehicle used with approx. 110,000 miles on odometer. steering wheel violently shakes on moderate to heavy braking as well as moderate shaking upon deceleration on highway surfaces as well as interment clunking from frontal suspension area under similar conditions. the steering wheel may be pointed straight ahead or at a slight left or right position. there are times when the shaking, under the above conditions, is very slight or nonexistent at all. i believe it is in the front steering linkage/suspension and not the brakes. i have personally inspected the components mentioned above as i have mopar experience in the past as a technician. i have also had a second opinion from an independent technician well versed in jeep technology. second; i also have a problem with the oil pressure being erratic when warmed up and either stationary or in motion. i have replaced the oil pressure sending unit and performed mopar diagnostics on the cluster as mentioned in the shop manual to no avail on this 4.0l engine with automatic transmission.the gauge reads well when cold but when warmed up it will drop to zero with the gauge alarm warning me of the action. then moving erratically between the 40lb marker and zero pressure while in motion or stationary. i and a few technicians are having difficulty determining where the problem is generated. on a note, there is a slight consistent ticking noise such as a valve lifter or rocker arm coming from the engine, warm or cold, stationary or in motion. it occurred when i purchased the vehicle and is still occurring today. thank you for any consideration that you may provide to me as this is my only means of transportation and i am handicapped. I was driving on an on ramp when i hit a raised bump on the road. the front started bumping violently almost like a basketball. when i applied the brakes it stopped as i slowed down. it happened once more as i could not get off the highway from the first incident. again, i hit another bump and the same thing happened. i was lucky that no one was right behind me or there might have been a collision. i went online when i got home to see what the issue was and from what i saw it was what people call the "death wobble". *tr

2000 jeep grand cherokee safety recall f25 - electric radiator fan. consumer states the fan was replaced in january 2008 for the second time because it would not shut off and feels that it should have been replaced at no cost since it was recalled previously . *nj the consumer also stated the transmission wouldn't shift into first gear. the dealer found a bad transmission valve body, 02 sensor and sync signal out of specifications. the upper and lower ball joints had to be replaced. updated 09/08/10*jb

Tie rods, wheel bearings, ball joints, fan clutch, shorted engine compartment wiring harness, fuel pump assembly all gone wrong from time of purchase; january 2000/brand new to sept. 2006...some pd. under warranty others after 2004 not; even though the defects usually do not happen to a jeep grand cherokee/fully loaded. the last straw was the ball joints; we asked if some form of recall should of been done and then asked for a reimbursement because my wife's' 2004 jeep liberty limited had a recall on it's ball joints/lower ones so after having mine replaced last friday 9/15/2006 we asked about the grand cherokee and it's ball joints; we also updated on all the defects we've had to correct and wondered if it wasn't a expensive lemon...$35,000.00 is what i paid. we called chrysler main customer service and was only told were sorry, the age of the jeep and past warranty...what does that have to do with all the past defects since 2000 and the fact we tried their customer service in 2002 and got no where again. no matter the age of the vehicle...safety is safety. and if ball joints go bad for no reason and have to be replaced then, it should go as a safety concern for all their vehicles. *jb

Replacement of brake rotors/pads & shock problems. *jb

Dt: the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo two wheel drive that experienced vibration. the vehicle was taken to a transmission repair shop because the contact suspected it was an issue with the transmission. when the vehicle was placed on racks the mechanic noted it was the carrier bearings in the rear end. also, the mechanic noted this was a common issue that he was quite familiar with. it was dangerous because there was a risk for the wheel locking while driving. the mechanic would not perform the repairs because the would soon due to the part being defective. the contacted contacted a chrysler dealer and the manufacturer, and they would not offer any assistance because vehicle was out of warranty. no repairs or corrections have been made at this time. they suggested a friction modifier to remedy this problem. *ak

Dt: contact states: the tire rod and ball joints on the driver's side fell apart. he saw on the website there was 318,000 recalls on the durango for that year. there was no warning that the failure was about to occur. he has called chrysler and they said they did not have any other reports of this issue. *ak *nm

Tl*- the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee with a current odometer reading of 106,000 miles. the contact stated that while driving under normal conditions in reverse the passenger's side lower ball joint failed. the vehicle was towed to the dealer, byden motors, and the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 102,000.*ak the tie rod was bad. updated 04/12/07. *jb

our 2000 jeep grand cherokee has been having rear end problems for the past 1 1/2 years. it started around 45,000 miles and we had a certified mechanic "patch it up in november of 2003. he said it was a regular problem with these vehicles and we would never have the noise go away. the noise has gotten worse and the dealership told us not to drive the jeep anymore before major repairs are done on the ring and pinion gears and pionion bearins, a cost of $1200. why are these vehicles needing this major work done at all, much less at 45,000 miles ane now 80,000? this should be a recall and fixed by the manufacturer - obviously this is not normal wear and tear - substandard parts or workmanship have to be involved.*ak

I purchased my 2000 jeep grand cherokee in 1999. i have been in and out of the dealer service for repeat major problems. my tire squeaked loudly while driving and after a year of not finding the problem, and fixing what they thought was the problem the left front wheel bearing was replaced and solved that problem. during the problem with the squeak they informed me that the transfer case had a problem and the solution was to drain and refill the 4wd transfer case fluid, i had them complete the service. also during my cargo door would not open neither would the window, they replaced the latch lift. the next problem was that i was noticing smoke coming from underneath my hood. i brought that to their attention and they notice a fluid leak and had to replace my cylinder head gasket. the smoke was still there after that effort and now my transmission has went out. i need an overhaul transmission that will cost $1800.00 because now it's out of warranty. when i called the dealership they made it seem as if i did not take care of my vehicle. when my jeep needs servicing i always went to the dealership (5 star) so they can help me take care of my investment. any needed repair that was requested i had done. my jeep only has 57,000 miles on it. the crysler company has most definitely lost a customer.*ak

While traveling on the highway and without prior warning. vibration is coming from underneath the vehicle. dealer is aware of the problem. *ak

When applying brakes at highway speeds, vehicle starts vibrating and pulsating. took vehicle to dealer and had rotors redone, problem still exists.*ak

1. transmission: having problems shifting from 2nd gear to 3rd gear until car is fully warmed; occasionally, the car stalled due to the gear not shifting properly; 2. brake rotors: rotors warp within 12,000 miles; changed new rotors and pads three times; 3. alignment: pulls to the right summary: transmission & brake rotors are known problems by dailerchrysler---unsafe vehicle. *la

Steering column vibrates severly when attempting to apply brakes and traveling at speeds above 65 mph, dealership has examined vehicle, and has failed to remedy problem by replacing brake pads and rotors. *ak dealer recommended replacing rotors, which were warped, and also the brake pads, consumer refused, also left front and rear shock absorbers were leaking, which were replaced.*yd

Jeep is pulling to the right.. was told "its the crown in the road" by first dealer. had it taken to another dealer.. was told the alignment is off. ..so it was corrected.. still does it. this is an ongoing problem.. these vehicles ablility to hold a straight line is like trying to pull a rabbit out of a hat. magic..just an illusion that the dealer wants you to swalow up.. crown in the road my ass. *ak

I bought the 2000 jeep grand cherokee car brand new, one year later we had to have the rotors replaced, six months later we had to replace the brake pads. six months after that, the automatic door lock on the diver's side started making loud screeching noises whenever you lock and unlock the door, a dealer looked at it and estimated $700 to have it repaired. we've been having fron suspension problems, and the transmission makes a humming sound when it's in reverse. what's next?*ak

Rearend makes a howling sound between 55-63 mph when i am coasting. *ak

Vehicle pulls to the right. when driving, i constantly have to steer to the left so that the vehicle will go straight.

This is the 2nd time for the brakes shuttering. also, always pulls to right *ak

There are alot of problems with this jeep all witch i have proof of repairs, cam shaft, tires, brakes, alignment and humming at 65 mph.*jb

While traveling at various speeds vehicle pulls drastically to right. *ak

Consumer noticed vehicle pulled very hard to right taken to dealer, and could not fix problem. *ak

Front rotors have been replaced 3 times/ were resurfaced once, and rear rotors were replaced once due to vibration in vehicle.*ak consumer stated that the pcv valve failed, fuel filter failed, and front shocks leaking fluid and replaced front shocks, also the transmission pan was leaking fluid, wiper blades were replaced.*yd

The vehicle whines and howls due to defective differential. yh

Vehicle has been in for this and other problems. tires are becoming severely worn. was told that new ball joint has been installed. vehicle still pulls right. all tires were cross rotated which evens wear and reduces pull for several hundred miles. i will contact dealer and chrysler direct in attempt to have problem resolved. i am angry that the tires are wearing at an unreasonable rate which will cause pre-mature replacement. i like the vehicle and would like to have the problem(s) resolved so it does not continue to drive to the right. thank you. please do not hesitate to call and perhaps leave a message so i might return your call during your work hours. i am a school teacher and cannot talk during class time. sincerely, e. meisser. *ak
