The front brake rotors are constantly getting warped. i had them turned 4 times in about 35000 miles. the vehicle shimmies so much when you apply the brakes that you have a hard time controlling the steering. it seems that the front rotors are over heating and warping after about 4-6k miles. the dealership refuses to do anything about it except to turn rotors again. this will last about 4-6k miles and they warp again.*ts *jb ***dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12-12-02 cut over to artemis***762447

Brakes vibrate at high speed and cause lurching at low speed. rotors refaced twice and replaced once. now problem has returned. after reviewing the nhtsa web site and finding numerous other complaints, it is obvious this is not an isolated incident but a recurring problem on this vehicle. it should be fixed!*ak

I experienced severe brake vibration when braking casually at hwy speeds. this made it difficult to hold the steering wheel steady and hold control on the road. dealer said rotors need turning- at 8000 miles? problem reoccured 6 mnths later at 15000 miles-had a broad blade lathe cut at a different dealer. first dealer wanted to charge me and then said they did not have right equipment to fix it. problem reoccured again at 19000 miles. had rotors and hubs replaced. had to fight to get warranty to fix it. hope this works this time. when brakes vibrate it feels unsafe. *ak

While driving 50 mph and attempting to apply the brakes, the vehicle vibrates and brakes pulsate, dealer informed consumer the pads were not efficient of government requirement, feet are left on brakes after stopping causing the discs to warp, the disks were checked and they were not warped, there could be another part within the abs causing the problem. *jg *ak

While traveling down the highway at appox. 65 mph i began to apply the brakes, the entire vehicle and steering wheel shook violently. this came without warning, after a few gentle pushes on the brake in the next few miles the shudder was less violent. it now feels as if the rotors are warped, i had the rotors turned at 6500 miles and now it seems as they are warped again. in recent days i have been careful to note the vehicles behavior, it seems that after 5-6 stoplights or braking periods in quick succession that the next few stops are especially violent, and then a few stops later it goes away. the violent shaking is strong enough to cause problems at highway speeds, i am now confined to <45 mph until the vehicle is inspected next week. *ak

Been to the dealer 6 times for the brakes. when braking from 60 mph+, the truck shakes violently. repairs last 3,000 miles, then it returns. i have filed a complaint with daimlerchrysler. i will file a law suit if this truck is not replaced, it seems very dangerous. *ak

Brake rotors repeatedly warp causing severe shaking in steering during highway speed braking and moderate shaking at slower speeds braking. this is a persistant problem with this model jeep - mine, as well as others according to reports i've read. jeep repairs this defect under warranty by using an "on-the-car lathe". this is a temporary fix at best as these brake rotors are of defective manufacturing. . chrysler/jeep is stalling a recall by attempting these ineffective repairs in my opinion. i believe a safety recall is urgent. *ak

Brake rotors have been repaired replaced five times already. *ak *jb

Repated brake failures: front brake rotors continue to warp and fail every 5000 to 12000 miles. dealership continues to replace rotors, but fails to discover the cause of the problem. brakes are the number one safety component on a vehicle, and this vehicle is not safe. the most recent failure has caused the anti-lock brake system to fail. during emergency stops the front brakes lock and vehicle begins to skid. after four failures, this vehicle does not conform to the applicable express warranties, and the manufacturer has had a reasonable number of attempts to repair. daimler-chrysler should either replace the vehicle or reimburse me for the purchase price of the vehicle less the amount attributable to use prior to the first discovery of the nonconformity at 12,335 miles.*ak

Initial problem was diagnosed as "excessive runout on front rotors" and was repaired under warranty by turning the rotors with an "on the car lathe". the same symptoms began to reoccur at approx. 22000 miles. lightly at first, and now very severe shaking happens between 50 and 60 mph when brakes are applied. it is currently being reapaired, but i'm told not under warranty. the advisor says it is caused by improper torquing of wheel bolts. of all the vehicles i've owned, i have never had this type of problem before. i beleive these parts are defective and should be recalled. brakes should not have to be repaired every 12000 miles.

The brakes are displaying the same symptoms again at 11,250 miles. *ak

Since i've had this vehicle the rotors have been replaced twice, resurfaced twice, and the dealer can still not fix the problem. the warping of the rotors sends a pulsation through the steering system causing the steering wheel to shimmy left and right. the car only has 32,000 miles. i do not ride the brakes, in fact i sold my last car with 75k miles on the original rotors with a pad replacement at about 60k miles. the dealer and the factory will not tell me why the rotors continue to warp and they just keep replacing them, that is until now. they are now starting to charge me for the repair even though it is under the 36,000 mile warranty period. it's absurd, i checked your web site and there are numerous complaints about this defect. i can't imagine anything more unsafe than a defect which degrades braking and steering. i strongly recommend you get after them to find a permanent fix to this blatantly obvious safety defect. thanks. *ak

Brake rotors warped with mixed city and highway driving within the first few months of ownership.
