Brake rotors have failed seven times since vehicle was purchased new. the dealership has either turned or replaced the rotors six times. since the vehicle is now beyond 36,000 miles, the dealership along with chrysler is refusing to fix the probelm (at no charge). prior to the vehicle reaching 36,000 miles, i asked if they would continue to correct the problem once the vehicle was beyond 36,0000 miles and was assured that they would take care of the problem should it arrise again. such is not the case. they are refusing to fix the problem at no charge. the rotors have been a chronic problem. as far as i am concerned, the rotors have never been fixed correctly, otherwise, i wouldn't continue to experience the failures.*ak

Vehicle has suffered from warped rotors which were replaced twice on the front and once on the rear. no problems since 12998 miles. but i consider this to be due to poor quality. main issue reoccurring ,stalling problems while stopped in drive. vehicle has been in three times for checks to throttle body (cleaned and once replaced), software revisions and other settings, but stalling continued to manifest itself. has stalled 3 times in the last 3 weeks. contacted daimler chrysler who kept referring me to the dealer. but after multiple visits i have no confidence in their ability to address this problem. *ak

Consumer stated when applying brakes, the vehicle will vibrate, consumer took vehicle to the dealer, and dealer indicated the rotors were warped.*ak. also the rear taillight lens was broke, the lug nut covers were replaced.*slc

Front rotors warped at 8,225 miles. 3 more times since. dealer replaced once and resurfaced once. owner paid other 2 times. this is a defective break system. should be recalled & new brake system installed.*ak

Defect in rotors/calipers on 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo. braking at 40 miles & above car shimmied.rrotors changed under warranty three times within first 2years. adams jeep, west street, annapolis, md would no longer cover under warranty. they denied there was a defect. chryser rep said it was my driving and washed their hands of me. my neighbor had same problem and he said a friend of his who works for a jeep dealership in maryland told him there is a defect but it is not the rotors, it's the calipers that sit on top of the rotors that was warping them. he gave me his paper work and it showed a special "package" chryser had put together to take care of the problem (i can send you the paper work). i faxed to adams jeep, enclosing my neighbor's paperwork and told them i knew now of the defect. i demanded they fix my car with this pecial "package". they called fifteen minutes later and said "ms gingell, when would you like to come in and we will take care of this for you at no charge!" i have another friend with same car/year who has same trouble and adams jeep has refused to fix the problem for free. her daughter also has the same type of jeep and she is also having the same problem. i went onto the website of www.edmunds.com and there are many people complaining their rotors. i am a year down the road now from supposedly having problem fixed and rotors are again starting to shimmy. i am going to take it back into adams jeep of annapolis. *ak

Brakes still squeak after being replaced several times. air conditioner worked intermittently. there was also a foul odor coming out of it. had to fill with freon once a month. no air conditioner now. *tt

Brakes squeak while coming to a stop due to bad pad and brakes vibrated and pulsated because rotors needed resurfacing, replaced both parts however vehicle is starting to experience problems again. yh

Brake rotors were warping. consumer has had rotors replaced three times already. contacted dealer ,and the dealer could not remedy the problem.*ak consumer stated that while braking at high speed the vehicle shakes and the steering wheel shakes violently. also control of the vehicle was a problem at speeds greater than 55 mph with medium to maximum braking. *yh

The automatic transmission failed and had to be replaced after about 6000 miles. there is a lot of noise from the rear, sounds like it is coming from the differential or axle. it is loud enough to be heard over the radio. the front rotors appear to be warped. when braking at highway speeds, the steering wheel shudders. it does not feel safe. *ak

This vehicle exhibited strong brake pulsation when stopping. manufacturer refused replacement of rotors, and turned rotors while on hubs of vehicle. pulsation has now returned.

Since date of purchase, rotors have been working improperly. vehicle has been shaking when brakes have been applied. contacted dealer who dealer could not find cause.*ak the problem with the brakes is still occuring. *jg

99 jeep grand cherokee has been in shop 5 times (current mileage:7500). i have had clattering/noises with sharp turns (transfer case fluid, then case itself, then pump replaced); gear whining noise chrysler is blaming on the dana corp. my dealer "unable to fix problem as necessary tools are on back-order"; vibration when applying the brakes attributed to a warped rotor (per tsb); problems with keyless remote entry and slow refueling, something leaking from front end. many other owners are having similar problems as evidenced by the multiple complaints on internet message boards (yahoo.com; jeepsunlimited.com) chrysler seems to be stonewalling on most of these problems, especially the dana corp. rear-end problem. i'm very frustrated after having spent $38,000 on this vehicle!

Have had the rotors replaced five times at 40,000 miles. the vehicle's front end shakes uncontrollably when brakes are applied at 50 mph or above which caused pulsation and vibration in the front end which felt as if the front wheels were going to fall off. *tt

The car steering vibrates excessively when brakes applied at 60 mph. chrysler replaces the rotors but the problem returns after approx 4 to 5 thousand miles. if left un checked the vehicles' safety is jeapardized. all 1999 jeep gand cherokee owners i have talked to (>10) indicate that they have the same problem. chrysler mechanics agree. chrysler has replaced the rotors for corrosion but the problem is probably related to vibration shortening the life of the rotors.*ak

Whenever brakes are applied they cause vehicle to wander across the road while traveling. dealer notified, and all rotors were turned twice. but problem still reoccurring. *ak

[email protected] : problems=steering, fueling, tran. slips 2nd-3rd,won't start, brake pulsation, shift to reverse loud clunk noise.

Brake calipers are defective causing damage to the rotors and pads. mjs

While driving at 40 mph, and upon pressing down on brake, vehicle shaks very hard, rotors appear to be very worn, vehicle has been taken to dealer approximately 5 times already. *ak consumer also stated there is a ticking noise from engine when starting up,steering damper and drag link assembly were loose, transmission shifts hard into reverse, right rear turn signal bulb was replaced, vehicle began to overheat, right side mirror was cracked, speaker was inoperative, the trim on the door panel was loose, exhaust system was loud, parking brake needed to be adjusted, passenger side seat belt was inoperative, passenger wiper blade was not cleaning the window, keyless entry remote was inoperative*slc

Front brakes pulsate at 50-60mph to the point where it is dangerous. failure at 3350, 9600, 14800, and 22000 miles. dealer repaired/replaced rotors three times. *ak

Front brakes shake violently when applied at speed between 40 and 60 mph. continue shaking until vehicle is below 40 mph or driver lets up on brakes. i've read through the complaints and see the same thing over and over. i first had the problem at 3,707 miles (1/29/99) and archer jeep in houston resurfaced the front rotors. it happened again at 10,427 miles (6/17/99) and they again resurfaced front rotors. when it happened the third time 16,750 miles (11/11/99) they replaced the front rotors. now, at 26,090 miles (5/17/00) the problem had returned again. this is obviously not a rotor problem and if it happens on a wet road, an accident will most certainly result. this is not a maintenance or dealer problem. the dealer has been most helpful. jeep/chrysler should be made to investigate and correct this dangerous problem. warranty expires in 10,000 miles and i will still have brakes that were never right. *ak

Warped rotors are causing the front end of the vehicle to shimmy. nlm

No summary listed for this vehicle. *ak
