Takata recall as i was driving my car on the four lane my car started to have white rubber smelling smoke fill the car and all my dash lights went crazy, my radio kicked off and my speakers and my turn signals quit working. i started to panic and stopped on the side of the rode. i had my kids in the car so i first removed my children then tried to find the problem. at this point my car was completely full of smoke n it like as if it was burning down. my wiring in the cars passenger side rear floor board had caught on fire ! the fire burnt through my floor and my floor mats. i almost choked to death on the smoke and had to take the battery out of the car to kill the power and dump water on the floor.

As i was driving on the central florida greeneway, my sunroof and bracket blew from the car. estimated speed - 65 mph. the electric sunroof was in the closed position. suddenly, the glass sunroof blew from the car and half the bracket came unassembled.

The back passenger interior door handle broke. i feel is it unreasonable to have a working handle to exit a vehicle. now since my son is older, i am concerned with his ability to exit out safely in an emergency. the poor design creates a safety issue for owners and their passengers.

The interior door handle casing cracked and completely crumbled. it is nearly impossible to open the door from the inside because of this. a quick google search shows that it is a prevalent problem and not an issue caused by normal wear. this can be a serious hazard if the driver needs to exit the vehicle quickly and cannot access another door or roll down the window to open it from the outside.

The door handles of my jeep commander 2006 have snapped. thr vehicle was stationary. first it was the rear drivers side door, then before i could schedule to get that one fixed, the rear passenger side door handle snapped. i accepted that it may be coincidence, until one month later, the same thing happened to my divers side door! it can't be coincidence and now i have difficulty getting out of my vehicle. it definitely poses a safety issue.

All door handles are broken and have become in operable from the inside of the vehicle. also when starting the jeep it will run for a few seconds and then shut off. after starting you can shift to drive and it puts you in drive 3 them it will quit. when u start and it shift into drive the jeep will remain running.

Every single door handle in the jeep broke under normal use somewhat able to open from inside, but a very big safty hazards when my kids or passengers cannot open the door from the inside. kinda scary when you think about it. slightly after revieving my used jeep one door handle after the other breaks upon bumping into handle.

Vehicle was in motion and car shut down as turning right at street light. had to restart car. driver side door interior handle is broken. cannot open door. dash lights do not work, radio volume goes up as you are turning the controls down. frame is rusted...told would be rusted through in another year. car has 125,000 miles on it. i'm the only owner. normal driving, no off road travel.

My 2006 jeep commander driver's door handles break - 3 of the 4 have broken after nothing but normal everyday use. if you're in a wreck you may not be able to exit the vehicle if the handles are broken. checking the web for consumer's that have had similar problems with the jeep commander door handles breaking and finding out there are hundreds if not a couple thousand that have had the exact same breakage of the door handle operating mechanism. if you take the vehicle to the jeep dealer for repair, they want $600.00 - $800.00 per door to ensure your safety in exiting the vehicle. describing what happens with your vehicle: it is just everyday ordinary operational use as to when the driver or passengers on the inside of the vehicle and "normally "pull" the handle to open the door and exit the vehicle that the handle and handle housing breaks into pieces. this breakage happens to all the door handles (front & rear) in the 2006 jeep commander.

The door handle on my jeep commander is cracking. my son went to open his door and his fingers got caught on the crack part of the door handle and we could not get his fingers out without him suffering. *tr

The plastic panel of the interior door (driver's side) cracked by the door handle. one day i pulled the interior door handle, the crack in the panel grew and pieces crumbled and fell into the door. then the handle fell into the door. now the only way to open the door is to lower the window and open it from outside. this is a major safety issue, and i apparently am not the only one. see forum citing: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f67/wk-xk-door-handle-recall-1404372/. *tr

Water leaks into vehicle from door and sunroof. *tr

The interior door handles crack and break: this is safety hazard trap for many consumer because you can't open the door from the inside if in an accident or in an emergency. i have been following this complaint since this vehicle came out on the market several hundred and so far nothing has been to correct this problem. only having the consumer fix it their self which is very costly to fix. my dealer shop quoted me 500.00 per door and i have 2 that are badly cracked and broken : please consider a recall on the door handles and think of the safely of adults and children . this happens by just opening a door due to poor product select on the manufacturer.

The interior door opening casing crumbles into pieces. jeep know about the faulty design and actually redesigned this component in 2008. to replace the door handle, the entire door panel must be replaced - at approximately $800 per door just for parts. this item should have been recalled because it creates a safety issue for people trying to exit the vehicle in an emergency. *tr

This is not a safety issue. this is a complaint concerning a very well known issue (one for which i have read many other similar complaints) in which the carpet and floor mat for the drivers compartment of my jeep commander are saturated after a hard rain and i am not getting any sound coming out of my stereo (likely due to a short from the water). this appears to be due to a problem with a clogged drainage tube coming from my sunroof. i have had numerous other cars with sunroofs and have never experienced a similar problem. this would appear to be a manufacturing defect issue which should be addressed with a full recall from the manufacturer. *tr

All four door handles have fallen apart, first by the door panel cracking and giving way, then the handle assemblies fell to pieces over time. my daughter recently cut her hand trying to open the door from the inside, and the only way to exit the vehicle is to roll the windows down and open the door from the outside handles. in my particular case, the 2 rear window motors have failed, so the rear passengers are trapped until someone up front lets them out. this is a serious safety issue for all passengers in the event of an emergency requiring a quick exit from the vehicle. the entire door panel is required to be replaced in order to fix this issue, quotes are about $600 per panel. this should be an expense borne by the manufacturer. *tr

All interior handles are cracked or broken, should there be an accident or fire, the occupants may not be able to exit the car, this is a common problem in most commanders. chrysler is well aware of this , they should recall the jeeps and correct the problem< before people get killed. *tr

The door handle assembly on the driver side has become brittle causing the unit to break potentially causing the driver to become trapped. this is concerning especially during an emergency. *tt

The interior door handles have all, but one shattered. the last incident, causing a deep cut to a 10 year old child's hand. this is the third handle to break. the risk of injury to my family, due to not being able to get out of the vehicle after an accident has significantly increased because of this defect. *tr

All interior door handles have broken. cannot get out of vehicle from inside. have to be opened from outside. this is a major safety hazard. *tr

The interior door handles brake (crumble). passengers in the vehicle cannot get out of the vehicle because the handle is not locked into place properly. *tr

1.the vehicle leaks. i suspected it was the the sun roof as that would be the obvious choice. after completely cleaning and testing the drain lines. i now feel like this is the issue http://xkjeeps.com/tsb/tsb_xk_2305005.pdf. my vehicle has had about 3/4' of water in the floorboard and i have to keep 2 containers of damprid in the vehicle at all times to avoid having a mildew smell. not to mention that it can't be good for the electronics that run around the base of the car. considering that they have a repair sheet on it. i feel like they shouldn't charge their customers to repair anything. 2. door handles. all of the door handles of the vehicle are broken except for the drivers side which clearly has a aftermarket fix on it. the cheap plastic used to mount them has cracked and now the door handles just hang. this is a safety issue. it potentially could trap people in the car. i have read about the issues all over the internet yet jeep is trying to make the customers pay $2000 for the door panel replacements. that is completely unacceptable. *tr

Broken interior driver side door handle. unable to exit because of issue. this is a safety issue. what if i needed to exit if there was a fire, or accident, or even a flood. *tr

Approximately 40 miles from home, on a day with the temperature well below zero degrees fahrenheit, we rolled our front windows down to talk to our neighbors, who were shopping at the same mall as us. after visiting with them, our windows would not roll back up. our family had to drive in freezing weather back home, on a sunday, with the windows rolled down. on the way, by rapidly depressing the windows lock button, while my wife repeatedly pulled up on the front passenger window switch, we got her window to roll up. we never could get the drivers front window to roll up. i replaced the master switch assembly on the drivers door panel, but that did not help. the dealership told me that i probably have multiple broken wires in the wire bundle in the door hinge area. jeep has not, to my knowledge, addressed this problem at all. the internet forums are chock-full of hundreds and hundreds of consumers that have had, and are having this same problem. *tr

I opened my car driver's door one morning to find two inches of rainwater on the floor near the pedals. unable to find the source, i put my jeep commander in the shop. i was charged for them fixing the leak that never got fixed. i have had everything checked out numerous times & no one can tell me how water gets in. however inconvenient, i am parking my car in parking garages every time it rains now, given there seems to be no other solution. in addition to the leak, my commander's radio/stereo just stopped working. i can't get it to turn on or work & and am now experiencing electrical problems having to do with window controls. after researching my options i learned that too often these same exact problems appear for many if not most commander owners. (i also reported a major problem with this car stalling in it's own complaint.) these problems need to be analyzed by real professionals & the jeep commander must be recalled. *tr

The interior door handles molding cracks and breaks off. i have one on drivers side that still functions but passenger side is total none working unless you roll window down and open from outside. this makes for a safety hazard, not being able to get out of the vehicle. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that all interior door latches were cracked. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was informed that the handles would need to be repaired. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 140,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the front driver and rear passenger's side seat belts failed latch properly. also, the contact stated that the rear passenger's side interior door handle became fractured. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was advised that the seat belts and the door handles needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 74,000 and the current mileage was 79,000.

My vehicle paint is "spidering" and cracking on the hood. you wouldn't think this could happen since it sat in a garage for almost a year while i was deployed, i wax it religiously and it is used very little. when talking to the jeep dealer, they make it sound like it is acceptable wear and tear. i think there is a flaw in the paint used for that specific year and possibly manufacturing location. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that while attempting to exit the vehicle, the interior driver and passenger door handle partially detached from the door. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated the interior door panel needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 82,000. updated 9/24/13*cn

Like many other consumers that own this vehicle, the driver's side interior door handle housing cracked and broke. this creates a significant safety issue. *tr

I own a 2006 jeep commander. we love this vehicle. however 2 of our inside door handles have broken. the driver's door handle and back seat left door handle.. in seeing all of the posts regarding this same problem with other jeep commander owners it looks like this is a consistent problem. it is absolutely a safety issue for my children, myself and anyone inside the car. my son switched the child safety lock on the backseat (left side) door as well and now because the door handle is broken we are unable to switch it back. therefore, the only way that passenger can get out of the car is if someone opens the door from the outside. door latches/handles breaking is an enormous safety problem and viable reason for a recall. we are requesting an investigation into this matter for consideration of a recall. *tr

All of the door handles on the vehicle are coming loose from the door panel. they are so loose that they could not open the door from the inside if anyone needed to exit the vehicle in a timely manner. i have already had to have one replaced because it would not open the door. i am not the only one having this issue as i have seen numerous reports of the same issue for similar vehicles. this is a safety issue if someone cannot exit the vehicle in an emergency situation. *tr

The interior door handles of my vehicle have all developed hairline fractures and then they end up shattering upon normal use. all 4 of my interior door handles are now completely broken and the driver door takes time and care to open it from the inside. i am afraid that if there is an auto accident i am involved in, i will not be able to get out of my vehicle or get my three very young children out either. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that both rear interior door handles were fractured. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was advised that both rear door panels needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 106,000. *tr

I have a 2006 jeep commander and all four interior door handles are cracked and broken. the doors can't be opened from the inside. this is a major safety issue. *tr

My interior door handles are breaking due to what appears to be a manufacture defect. with the door handles breaking it is and or will cause a very dangerous situation if your are ever in an accident and or fire preventing you from exiting the vehicle. *tr

The rear passenger inside door handle is no longer functioning. there is a piece of plastic within the door that braces the handle so it is secure enough to be able to pull it and open ( unlatch) the door. at this point the door closes but is impossible for the passenger to open the door from the inside. this is a serious safety concern for i have 2 children that ride in the back frequently. my jeep dealer was notified and i was told that is not covered under warranty. my jeep is under 100, 000 miles and for this to happen inside the door where no person can touch this ridiculous. *tr

My 2006 jeep commander along with many other owners are experiencing cracking of the interior door panel which houses the interior door handles. this results in the interior door handle breaking off, making it impossible to leave the vehicle from the inside. this is a safety concern and jeep is totally not doing the right thing. their solution is to replace the entire door panel at a cost of around $750 per door. the plastic used around the door handle is very thin and obviously a poor design. this should be recalled before someone gets killed. *tr

The interior door handle housings on all 4 doors are broken. as a result, it is very difficult to open the door handles from the inside. in order to exit the vehicle, one must use the exterior handles. jeep indicated replacement of the entire interior door panel is required to fix at a cost of $800 per panel. this is a safety issue preventing quick egress from the vehicle in the event of an accident and is a common, known issue with these vehicles. when the driver door handle housing broke, the sharp plastic cut my hand, causing it to bleed. subsequently, i have cut my hand again more than once on the sharp, broken plastic door handle housing. *tr

Jeep commanders share a faulty interior door handle assembly problem. the shape of the handle may be different in each model, however the problem is with the incorrect resin mix which results in a brittle and crumbling material causing failure just the same. this is obviously a manufacturer?s defect, however it?s a fault that is not covered under jeep?s warranty. there?s no recall or service bulletin. until recently, the only fix was replacing the entire door panels. chrysler designed the interior door panels on the jeep commander in such a way that the entire door panel had to be replaced rather than just the door handle. the interior door handle is plastic welded at certain points from the backside of the door panel. *tr
