Since december 2012,i now have 2 defective {broken} interior door handles, both rear passenger & now driver!! i do childcare and it is my responsibility to transport children to & from school. when i realized the first handle was broken,it was when i was taking the children to school.the little girl got out of the truck, went to shut the door and it bounced back at her.i pulled over thinking the seatbelt was in the way.here is was the door handle from the inside, broken, not even allowing the door to shut!i had to rig the handle so that it would close the door! on 3/26/13 my husband was driving & heard a noise,he looked down and the driver side broke! not even being touched. to get out, i have to put the window down, reach out & open by the exterior handle. please explain to me how this is safe!?!?!... if my car were to be in an accident and god forbid the electric didn't work, how the hell am i getting out. or my passengers!!! use the other two doors that will most likely bust soon!?! i can't imagine that jeep cannot afford a recall to fix this.would jeep rather correct this or spend millions of $$$ in lawsuits god forbid any deaths should occur.this is the last thing that should go wrong before the vehicle goes to the graveyard. obviously this is a defect on jeep's end b/c this is happening to jeep commander owners from all over the country!! jeep needs to stand by their product and put out a recall on this hazardous vehicle that we are driving. it's a sharp looking vehicle. if jeep wants a good rep and their drivers/passengers safe, then we as jeep commander owners insist on a recall!! i know there are a lot of us out here.if there weren't, why would another company develop and market an "after-market" fix? if it was just a few of us, it wouldn't make business sense to do so. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that both rear doors and the passenger's side front door handles were fractured. as a result, the doors failed to open. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that the door handles needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

The door handles began to fall apart creating a hazard. some of the doors do not open just the drivers for now. i have looked on forums and noticed that this has happened to other owners with the same model. in addition, the back passenger side window rolls up and down on occasion and gets stuck. *tr

The rear driver's side door handle became inoperable due to the breakage of the door panel. all of the panels have cracked and some of the plastic has fallen into the door cavity. the door handles are loose and now the rear driver's side is completely inoperable. in a case of any emergency that required exiting the vehicle, the passenger in this seat will not be able to get out. i suspect that all the doors will eventually have the same problem. i have seen multiple complaints regarding this issue. someone needs to hold chrysler accountable. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. during inclement weather, water would leak into the vehicle and onto the floorboard near wires. the contact stated that the entire warning panel was illuminated. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 70,000. the vin was not available.

The vehicle will suddenly lose power to the headlights, taillights, instrument panel, speedometer, odometer, and the interior some lights will turn themselves on without cause or warning. in the most recent event, vehicular damage and possible personal injury nearly occurred when driving in the dark, almost striking a utility pole. also, the automatic window control will not function properly when trying to roll up the window itself. it will stop halfway and bring itself back down. it usually takes 3-4 times to roll the window up. this has occurred numerous times, so many that i can't keep track. the local dealership cannot pinpoint the issue and this vehicle is not safe to be on the road. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while the vehicle was parked, all the internal door handles fractured. the contact had to roll the windows down in order to open the doors from the outside. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the door panels and latches needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 84,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the all four interior door handles fractured while the contact or a passenger was trying to exit the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised that all door panels needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 45,000 and the current mileage 52,000. *tr

Interior door handle housing on all 4 doors becomes extremely brittle and cracks. when this happens the door handles become unusable from inside while parked. to exit the vehicle one must use external handle to easily open the door when stopped. after breakage, doors tend to open with pressure, from leg, on the handle while car is moving. replacement of the entire interior door panel is require to fix. *tr

My interior door handles are all broken. if i want to open my door, i have to roll the windows down first. if there is a fire, i will probably die. *tr

i own a 2006 jeep commander with 78k miles and the driver front and passanger rear doors have shattered behind the handle causing the handle to become usless from the inside. i feel this is a safty issue as no one can exit the vehicle from those door in the event of an emergency. after doing a little research i have found that this problem is not a one time occurance and is happening more and more often. the cost to replace the whole door panel is well over $600.00 each and that from my understanding is the only fix to this little cheap piece of plastic breaking. lets hope this is fixed before some one is hurt or killed. *tr

We had the driver door handle break and called chrysler because there are so many complaints on the internet about this. we were advised to take it to a dealer and have it looked at and a report made. we did that and also had pictures taken and sent with the report to chrysler, our case # 22652678 was filed. at the time 2 other door handles were showing cracks. we were turned down for a repair even though it is a safety issue. since that time 2 more handles broke. 2 can not be opened from the inside. we were told they would consider discounting the repair to 1300.00 per door. if they have such a bad design and plastic parts you would think an honorable company would do the recall and repair. we now have a dangerous car with no way to exit in an emergency. at our age we can not be jumping over consoles and seats to exit the car. our children have been advised to sue if anything happens because chrysler does not want to correct the problem they created. i understand 2008 models had a door handle redesign so they obviously knew of the problem. thank you for any assistance you can provide. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that she attempted to exit the vehicle but the door handle became fractured. the contact stated had to continuously pull the handle until the door would open. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic for inspection where they stated that the door handle needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure also occurred with the other three doors. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 200,000. the vin was unavailable.

The passenger side rear interior door handle casing cracked causing the door being unable to open from the inside. a few months later, the same issue came about with the driver's side front door; however i am able to open the door if i angle it correctly and with several attempts. this is very concerning as, in my opinion, it is a safety issue. if an emergency were to happen, my children or myself would not be able to exit the vehicle immediately. i have spoken with jeep and they stated they are not aware of any problem and would need to replace the entire door panels. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that water was leaking into the vehicle. also, the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the pcm needed to be reprogrammed. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 136,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the driver's side door handle failed. the entire door panel had to be replaced. the rear door handles also failed but was not replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and denied assistance with the repair. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 97,000 and the current mileage was 100,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the rear passenger side interior door handles were cracked and could not be utilized to open the doors. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 94,000. *tr

As in many previous year models jeep has allowed its commander to be manufactured with interior door handles attached to very thin and brittle plastic door panels. this allows the door handles to break loose from the panels and make the handle inoperable. in order to exit the vehicle you have to open the window and use the outside handle. this condition obviously can present a very unsafe situation especially in an emergency situation . it happens to all four doors as time goes on so that it becomes dangerous not only for the driver but all the occupants of the vehicle. jeep has not found it in their best interest to recognize this obvious defect therefore you must go thru a long complicated procedure to make any type of claim with no guarantee of a resolution in your favor. i would suggest this condition be determined a danger to the occupants of the vehicle before someone gets seriously hurt or dies because they can't get out the door. in reading various complaints at jeep commander.com there are hundreds of the same scenarios playing out in the same models that jeep manufactures. please try and help correct a serious and dangerous oversite in the design and production of these vehicles. thank you *tr

I have 2006 jeep commander that front driver side and rear passenger side door handle housing has cracked and broken. i am concerned if during accident if other 2 doors will break and won't have a way out of car. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the front driver, passenger and rear passenger interior door handles were partially detached from the door frame. the failure initially started on the interior driver's side door. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that although they were admitting that there was a defect in the door handles, they would not assist with the repair because he was not the original owner of the vehicle. the approximate failure mileage was 68,000 and the current mileage was 75,000. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the interior door handles were dry rotting. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised that all four door panels would need replacing. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

Interior door panels(both front doors) at door handles the plastic around handles has cracked and fallen out making the door handle sometimes unstable to open the door. concerned from a safety standpoint that at some point the doors will not be able to be open from the inside and could be trapped inside in case of an emergency and the option of powering down the window is not possible.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that while driving in inclement weather at approximately 35-45 mph, an elk crashed into the front end of the vehicle. the driver and passenger side air bags both failed to deploy. the passenger seated in the front seat sustained injuries to the back and head. the contact sustained injuries to the neck and back. the manufacturer was contacted and advised that the elk did not impact the vehicle in the area of the air bag sensors therefore, the air bags did not deploy. the contact stated that the air bag was defective and that the air bag warning light was illuminated prior to the crashed. the vehicle was destroyed. a police report was filed of the incident. . the vehicle was destroyed. the failure and current mileage was 114,000. updated 12/12/12 *bf updated 12/21/2012 *js

Driver side floor has had approx 1-2 inches of water after raining on multiple occasions. local jeep dealer said the sunroof drain was clogged. this has never happened while driving, only when the vehicle is parked. it's pretty pricey to have these drains unclogged and from reading all the other complaints about this same problem on edmunds, it is a consistent service that needs done. i am very frustrated because this sounds like a defect on chrysler's part, but nothing has been done about it. when this water floods my floor it stinks in the vehicle. i also notice flies and gnats. i am afraid of mold, dry rot and electrical issues. my radio is going out and i believe the water has something to do with this. i never had problems with the radio until this started. the screen is no longer clear, the gps doesn't work, the uconnect hands free doesn't work properly anymore and the radio randomly changes stations on its own. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the interior door handles failed while trying to exit the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 96,000.

One interior door handle (right rear) was broken when i purchased the vehicle, rendering the interior door handle inoperable. within two months, my left rear handle broke in a similar fashion (crunching sound under light use).the interior handle 'cup' shattered in approximately 12 pieces, rendering that door handle inoperable. the driver's front shows several large cracks, and the passenger front shows 2 cracks. all have been rebuilt/reinforced using an epoxy stick. jeep unwilling to assist as a defect. i am highly concerned that this could cause an inability to egress in an emergency situation. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the front driver and passenger's side door handles failed. in addition, the instrument panel failed and the contact was not able to determine what speed he was traveling or the amount of gasoline fuel in the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised the contact that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was unknown, but the current mileage was 57,000.

Safety issue concerning inoperable interior door handles on 2006 jeep commander. over the past three months, all four interior door handle casings have broken making doors difficult or impossible to open from inside the vehicle. *tr

On my 2006 jeep commander the inside door handles break and you can't open the doors without reaching outside and using the outside handles. if this isn't a safety issue that i see hundreds others have typed in jeep forums then i don't know what is. hopefully we don't have a crash and can't get out of a burning jeep or go into water. also see how several jeep owners have posted utube videos on this safety issue. you call chrysler and they tell you 500 to 600 a door handle to fix. please look into this matter before some one loses a loved one. i can email photos if you want them. *tr

Faulty interior door handle assembly problem the problem is with the incorrect resin mix which results in a brittle and crumbling material causing failure just the same. this is obviously a manufacturer defect, however its a fault that is not covered under jeep warranty. the only fix was replacing the entire door panels. chrysler designed the interior door panels on the jeep commander in such a way that the entire door panel had to be replaced rather than just the door handle. the interior door handle is plastic welded at certain points from the backside of the door panel. i understand 2008 models had a door handle redesign so they obviously knew of this problem. thank you for any assistance you can provide. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the four interior door handles became fractured and exhibited severe cracks. in addition, the front passenger's side door would not allow the occupant to exit the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was unavailable. djr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the front driver and passenger interior door handles fractured. in order to exit the vehicle the contact had to activate the power window to engage the exterior door handle. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the driver and passenger door panels would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 58,000.

I have randomly chosen an incident date as i am not sure of the exact date the door handles caved in. when the first handle caved in i thought my daughter pushed to hard to open the door and that it could be repaired by simply replacing the handle. as the months and years have gone all four door handles have caved in. and i have been informed that the entire panel must be replaced for each to repair. i am appalled and shocked that jeep has not recalled these doors. this is certainly a safety hazard. it is so expensive to repair as well. i am always concerned for any passenger as those in the rear are totally unable to open the doors from the inside. and the driver's door is just about in that state. i will say any day now. but i am moreso afraid now that i have a grandson whose seat is located in the back. what if something happens and the person sitting in the back with him can't him or themselves out. please advise as to what or how jeep can be forced to protect us! it is my understanding through internet research that jeep restructured the door design 2008 and beyond to alleviate this safety hazard. please advise as i am so fearful of some catastrophic event taking place. *tr

A few months ago the interior door trim on the drivers side front door shattered around the door handle. the door handle still releases the door but you need to wiggle it around a bit and get it aligned properly before being able to open the door. not driving the vehicle often and thinking it was just a small, easily replaced part i did not take it too seriously. it was only when i looked into it, realized it was the whole door panel and saw that so many other owners were having the same problem that i decided to report it. as a firefighter, and having responded to fatal car fires, i would hate to think of what may happen if someone was to be in an accident and had to get out of their vehicle quickly but couldn't because they could not afford to fix this issue which costs in excess of $500 per door. *tr

2 plastic door handles broke. *tr

The door handles where you open and close the door have completely shattered in to pieces by just opening and closing the door normally. i am unable to exit my car properly because the drivers side handle is completely shattered and will not open. i am unable to exit my car without crawling across the seat due to the handle completely crumbling and now other door i use to get out has started to crumble. one of the back doors is starting to break as well and they tell me it will cost over 2800.00 to repair. i don't have that kind of money to fix a door handle. i'm afraid i'm in danger if i have to exit my car in a hurry or my daughter or a riding guest. it's horrible that it just cracks like nothing and they wont take any responsibility. i cannot just open my door and get out of my car. they all being broken is one thing and i believe obviously a flaw on jeeps part, but not being able to get out of my car is dangerous. *tr

Passenger door handle faulty/weak. handle broken and cannot open door. all other door handles showing fatigue. *tr

Electrical dash board blinks while driving, driver's seat moves while driving, when it rains the driver's floor is soaked with water and passenger side floor is wet as well, vehicle jerks while driving. indication lights pops on dashboard sporadically, radio and navigation doesn't work. *tr

The inside door handle is broken. all four or the door handles are broken. the door will not open from the inside.i have many people online say that their jeeps have done the same thing. my girl friend has even cut her hand do to the sharp edges when it breaks. in case of a fire or something we would be trapped inside the jeep. i would think the jeep company would recall these trucks but they won't fix the problem. *tr

The door handle has completely broken off the driver's side door. there was no abuse to this door at all. i have searched for a replacement part and the design requires that the entire door panel be replaced. this was changed the following model year as chrysler knew it was a major defect. this appears to be a very common problem for owners of this year & model of jeep. *tr

All interior door handles have broken and car cannot be opened from the inside. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact noticed the front and rear driver and passenger side door handles were cracked. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics. the technician stated all four door panels would have to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 62,000.

Both the front and rear drivers side door handles broke and you have to roll down the windows to get out of the vehicle. the handles are made of cheap plastic and break easy by normal use. this is a safety hazard that could potentially cost someone their lives. jeep wants around $1200.00 to fix the problem but i believe they should fix this safety issue for free and recall the jeeps affected. *tr

we own a 2006 jeep commander . took real good care of this car. it only has 40,000 miles on it and all four of the door panel have broke i mean into pieces 3 to the point the door latch has dropped down. the first one was when i just shut the door and then notice a crack, and then the rest did the same thing i an concern about my grandkids in the back,if they needed to exit in a hurry they could not. it takes a few minutes to get the latch just right to open the door. we also have had to have the rear end fixes twice. roaring noise. eep does not seem to want to do anything about this problem. so don't buy a jeep. a bad fault in car design. *tr

Interior door handle base shattered, making handle inoperable and creating dozens of sharp shards of brittle plastic in the passenger compartment. drivers door cannot be opened from inside the car. *tr

Out of the blue the whole radio/cd/navigation console went out! the radio still works, but only the preset stations and i can only control it from the steering wheel. then i noticed that the air bag light(on instrument panel) is turning on and off and beeping each time. there have also been water issues coming from the sunroof, soaking the floor boards in mainly the passenger side but sometimes also the drivers side. this only happens when the vehicle is parked. *tr

Electrical issue that is causing all dashboard lights to flicker on and off, heat/air goes on and off, audio center goes on and off all electrical functions go no and off. dealership blamed my remote starter(which they. *tr installed) but turned out it wasn't and they have no idea what it is. say they can't determine what it is unless it is happening when i bring it in. the interior door opening casing crumbles. already had drivers door fixed because i couldn't open door from inside and was told all doors would eventually have to be done. doors freeze due to poor drainage. water collects inside door frame and running board, freezing all doors. if not for the remote starter, wouldn't be able to get in the car at all. *tr
