For the third time, the vehicle has lost power at highway speed. it starts coasting and the motor runs but depressing the gas pedal has no effect. the last time it happened, we were on a curving mountain road and almost got run over by an 18 wheeler. third time this has happened and the dealer has not been able to fix. this has to stop, brand new car stalling at highway speeds. each time we were at highway speeds. multiple lights come on the dashboard, see attached photo.
March 2019 i was making a right hand turn going about 4-6 mph onto a busy highway, when all of sudden my vehicle stalled in the middle of the lane i was turning onto. all the dash lights turned on. i placed the vehicle quickly in park , restarted the vehicle , placed it in gear and hurried to get out of the lane of travel. i then noticed a warning light , it's the auto stop start symbol with a circle around the a with an exclamation point near to the mileage area. thankfully i took a picture of this error. i took my vehicle to napleton and the service advisor stated that the vehicle could have a battery issue or the oil in the vehicle was low. the best thing about the error sign is, that it clears after you shut your vehicle off and restart it. even after showing the picture of the error the service department can not duplicate the issue. stated the vehicles system is not showing any error codes when they plug in their code box. it's been already 4 different occasions my vehicle stalls while turning or stopped at a light trying to move forward. i guess chrysler will not recognize the issue they are having with these vehicle until someone loses their life and they get sued for damages. i shouldn't have to deal with a stalling problems a new vehicle with less than 5000 miles.
Everything down to the engine has been replaced and still having problems with the idle being high sitting or moving, usually a very quite vehicle is now loud, smells like gas is leaking, auto shut off works sometimes, the unlock button on the handle most times won't unlock, when there's no one in the jeep and the button is pushed on the handle it says to push break to start the vehicle while still trying to unlock the doors and outside of the vehicle, hesitates to take off at times while pulling out from a stop sign or to pass someone
The vehicle's electrical system does not work properly. the uconnect screen fades in and out to total blackness. you cannot read anything. there is no way to change any of the settings. i had to turn the car off, start it again to get the screen to come on. it is dangerous when you are driving and have to guess what is happening on the screen. the radio does not work right. i start the car and it either comes on full blast volume, and then fades out to no sound, or it just has no sound at all. i followed the owner's manual to reset the uconnect system using the uconnect menu reset button. that did absolutely nothing! i cannot trust the car or the screen in the uconnect system. the second issue and it is a big one! the car stalls when you step on the accelerator! i tried to pass a car, and stepped down to accelerate and the jeep stalled! i almost wrecked! when you step down on the accelerator the engine feels like it is going to stall. i am not a mechanic, so i do not know if all of this is electrical, or engine related. this is an on going problem.
Car radio/computer turns off several times while driving, won't reconnect to carplay (which has navigation) until you stop the vehicle and restart the engine, car does not register fob action (unlock, restart, open tailgate, alarm) and the batteries were good and the car didn't give alert that no fob was detected. once i finally got in the car, the engine wouldn't start.
2019 jeep cherokee latitude 2.4 liter 4cyl engine shuts off while driving. it has stalled once and shut off twice. august 31, 2018 the engine shut off for the first time while driving. i reported it to the dealer. november 2018 - jeep issues a recall - jeep cherokee vehicles equipped with 2.4l engines. improper transmission calibration may result in a stall. chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will re-flash the transmission controller with a new calibration, free of charge. the recall began november 2, 2018. the dealer fixed this last november 2018. yesterday the jeep stalled and today march 21, 2019 the engine shut off while driving. i drove it directly to the dealer today. i was rattled. each time this has happen i have been fortunate driving slow and in residential or remote areas. others have not. there are hundreds of complaints online. this is a serious safety issue.
When in motion or parked, turning on my heater, my screen shows engine over heating. i've checked coolant and oil levels and are well over half full. . my car is less than 3 months old, so this issue should not be happening. i've searched the internet and it seems to be a reoccurring problem with jeep cherokees.
Car stalling while driving
The car will stall in the middle of road with no warning. it happens most often when going up a slight hill and making a left hand turn. dealer says it is low on oil pressure(the car is 5 months old and they say it was 2.5 quarts low on oil!!) and a safety switch shuts down the engine in the middle of road/traffic!! i call this "safety feature" to protect the engine a"danger switch" that endangers traffic. i believe this is a major safety issue for all traffic because these jeeps are stalling in the middle of traffic. i have a 45 second video that shows the stall. please help get this problem solved!! *dt*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2019 jeep cherokee. while driving, the vehicle lost power without warning. the contact shifted into neutral and the vehicle restarted. the instrument panel indicators flashed as the contact drove home. the following day, the vehicle was started, but then shut off and failed to restart. the contact called the manufacturer and had the vehicle towed to fairfield chrysler dodge jeep ram (1409 montour blvd, danville, pa 17821, (570) 275-3300). the dealer diagnosed that the abs unit needed to be replaced. after two weeks, the contact drove the vehicle and it stalled two miles later. all the instrument panel indicators illuminated again. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and barely made it home. the vehicle was towed again to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was a loose wire. the vehicle was currently at the dealer. the contact wants to return the vehicle and stated that it was unsafe to drive. the failure mileage was 13.
Check engine light came on and it started stalling and won't go speed over 20 miles jeep was brand new with about 45 miles on the odometer.dealership tried fixing something to do with stored dtc-po6odd engine oil pressure stuck.on return did the same thing.now going back to the dealer.both times jeep was on 59 south fwy.potentially a dangerous situation.
At about 1200 miles, dashboard lit up, car stalled and needed to be towed. dealer changed battery. bringing home form dealer, happened again. dealer had it two weeks. picked it up and at 1600 miles, happened again. dealer had it three weeks and changed out computer. picked it up and next morning dashboard lit up. stopped car before it could stall, and had it towed to dealer. after two weeks i picked it up. i don't want to drive it. 4 times in for the same issue, and over 45 days in the dealer. dashboard warning lights: airbag, braking, park assist, electronic stability, battery, lane warning, etc. if there are warning lights on the dash, it lit up like a christmas tree. all issued happened while the auto was in motion
I've only had this vehicle 2 months.....came to a stop at a traffic light, when to take off the vehicle died. would not restart, could not get the vehicle out of drive, finally get it out of drive, vehicle still won't restart. finally restarts, then dies again, restart, dies again, finally get it to start start/stop light is on for service. turn start/stop off, drive to safe place, turn vehicle off, light goes off, vehicle doesn't act up again at this point because i have turned the start/stop off. at dealership for over a week now, they "claim" they can not get it to reproduce the issue. i'm reading online lots of issues like this, why aren't these vehicles being recalled or pulled off the road. someone is gonna get killed!
Tl* the contact owns a 2019 jeep cherokee. while driving 35 mph and making turns, a chime sounded and the oil warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact restarted the vehicle while in traffic and it resumed normal operation. the contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to south county dodge chrysler jeep ram (located at 7127 s lindbergh blvd, st louis, mo 63125, (314) 487-1010) to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the oil level was three quarts low. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer every eight hundred miles. the approximate failure mileage was 4,000.
Purchased used with 5k miles, 40% oil level based on info center. after two months and the oil level at 10% the car would shut off randomly when turning, miles at around 7k. occurred 2-3 times, took to jiffy lube and after oil change did not occur until hit 10,500 miles and oil level at 50% based on info center, engine would shut off when turning in motion, occurred again multiple times. took to jeep dealership and explained the issue. they advised me the engine could be replaced but first i need to change the oil with jeep and return 1k miles later after oil change. so far at 10,800 miles no problem but the jeep service adviser said that if it has occurred multiple times the engine more than likely will be swapped out. this should be a nationwide recall for this engine, can you imagine the engine stalling on the freeway and shutting off in a turn!! when i was at the dealer there was a 2019 jeep compass having the same problem and the engine was being replaced. needs to be recalled asap.
I was sitting in traffic on the 105 freeway, at approximately 2-3 miles per hour, and my car suddenly lunged forward hitting the other car in front of me, my foot was on the brake the entire time. time of occurrence was jan 28, 2019 approximately 2:30pm.
Vehicle stalls when driving at any speed. extremely dangerous. *dt*jb
Veh. stalls while driving , went back to dealer 2times they say it's fine. this is on safe as it happens on highway with no warning, they tell me that the dash light is not on now so we can't fix it
The car completely shut down while driving at night on a snowy mountain road. all lights and everything completely shut off. i was able to stop in the opposing lane of traffic and restart the vehicle before being struck. the vehicle electrical system continued to flash into warning and limp mode several times but we were 100's of miles from a dealership. we continued with the problem until we were able to limp home and back to the dealership. the vehicle also revved up to 4000 rpm while my foot was on the brake and not touching the accelerator. the low tire lights kept rotating to different tires as i drove with none being low. the dealership said it was a vacuum line and they drove it for 10 miles without result. this vehicle almost killed us on several occasions.
2019 jeep cherokee lattitude- engine shuts off while driving. i bought my car brand new i reached 4000 miles and i was driving to work my car died and the battery light came on, car went into failure mode so was hard to steer and my flashers would not go on, i sat for a few minutes and tried to restart and the car hesitated and turned over. two weeks later same thing in the same exact spot. i brought my car to suresky the dealer i bought it from and they said its because it needed an oil change. once they completed my oil change they told me my oil was barely on the dipstick. this is a brand new car with 6000 miles with synthetic oil i shouldnt have oil loss. i have read online there are 188 other people that have reported this same issue. i am afraid to let my kids drive this due to driver inexperience. jeep is aware of the issue and will not recall the vehicles, because of the loss they will take, what is it going ot take someone dying because that is what is going to happen, and then chrysler is going to be sued for not taking the safety of the consumers to heart
On december 29th at about 5pm, i was traveling south at 40mph on plymouth sorrento rd in orange county fl.as i was driving, i heard a ding (1 ding almost as if my seat belt wants buckled, but it was) and at that time, my jeep shut down in travel. the first thing i noticed was the radio shut off and all the gauges, as i went to correct my steering, to get back in the center of my lane, i realized i had no steering capabilities, the steering wheel was locked. when i realized what had happened, i began to slow and the car came back on. this all took place in about 5 seconds. when i got my head straight and started back home, i noticed that the radio, control panel/gauges and a/c would not function properly. i could not change channel, turn air off, couldn't change volume or nothing. about twenty minutes later i arrived at my house and shut the car down. the radio continued to play. i had to start and shut the jeep down three time in order for the equipment to shut down. i called napleton jeep of clermont to come tow the jeep in and i called chrylser corp to notify them of the major safety hazard this was and problems this could have caused. searching the same year and model jeep on the internet, it appears this is a pretty common thing,. i explained it to one of the chrysler corp managers and he said it didn't matter how many vehicles this happened to, there is no problem. chrysler had the napleton dealer drive the car for about 90 miles over a week period and never had a problem. at that time i got a call from chrysler and napleton, stating i can pick my jeep up, there is nothing wrong. the jeep had about 2000 miles on it when this happened. we have had the jeep about 40 days when this happened, and because chrysler couldn't recreate the issues, they have just washed their hands of the problem.
The vehicle shuts off when approaching 3500 miles. this happens when the vehicle is in motion regardless of speed rendering the vehicle extremely difficult to maneuver. the jeep was taken to dealer and the mechanic advised that this is a known issue with some of the new jeep cherokees containing certain fiat motors. the vehicles now have a fiat motor that apparently burns the engines oil every 3500 miles & the shut off is a built in 'safety mechanism' to prevent the motor from burning out due to the lack of oil. this information was not disclosed when the vehicle was purchased.
Car stalled and lights on dashboard flashed when stopped at intersection
My 2019 is about to have it's 3rd oil change, apparently it's supposed to go every 3,000 miles to get an oil change. when i called the dealership the guy that's in services didn't care of my concern regarding the cherokee turning off while driving during traffic especially in the freeways, all he kept saying yup yup yup. he kept telling me he has a paper stating that jeep cherokees new models are built like that now. all he offered was to do an oil consumption test which i have to make an appt for and go every 1,000 miles to get it read. i mentioned that the compass has the same type engine, however, with the compass i would go 5,000 miles or more. i cannot continue to pay for a car that puts me and my family at risk for accident. my car turns off completely all the lights on the dash board turns on before turning off and states it's the battery when it's not the battery. why hasnt this been recalled or fix my chrysler or fiat! the first time it happened was around christmas time then 3 months later. i had to get my first oil change before the 3 months of getting it.
While driving vehicle showed on screen that shifting was not allowed causing the car to stall. having to stop in the middle of the road to shift it to parking and put it back on drive. also battery light came up while driving casusing the engine to stall and not being able to proceed in drive slowing the car down. had to turn off the vehicle again on the middle of the road to be able to restart the vehicle.
Tl* the contact rented a 2019 jeep cherokee. while the vehicle was stopped at a traffic light, there was a burning electrical odor coming from the front of the vehicle. suddenly, smoke billowed from under the hood of the vehicle. in a matter of seconds, the vehicle caught fire. the fire department was notified and was able to extinguish the fire. a fire report was filed. there were no injuries. the vehicle was destroyed and towed from the scene by the rental company to a private facility. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the cause of the failure was not determined. the approximate failure mileage was 11,000. the vin was not available. *bf... *tr
While driving 80mph on the highway, my 2019 jeep cherokee went into complete failure mode. the power in the vehicle failed, i was no longer able to accelerate. luckily i was able to dodge my way through traffic and get off the highway and into safety. after 48 hours at the dealership, still no official root cause of why the power failed.
1. on 3 occasions (most recently 12-2-18) during braking the emergency brake engages itself and the engine continuously engages the starter. unable to put vehicle in park turn off the starter and after about 30-60 seconds able to put into park and restart the vehicle. on 12-2-18 i was slowing for a stop light and the vehicle wouldn't allow me to put the hazard lights on when i couldn't get the starter to disengage and put into park to restart the vehicle. it occurs without warning and the emergency brake must be pulled up. 2. the brakes often sound like they are rubbing (needing brake pads). 3. the radio will randomly change from fm to sirius and unable to turn off/on or return to the radio menu. 4. the radio volume most of time must be at 15 or higher to listen to the radio and will randomly jump to full volume while driving. 5. the android auto that i use for navigation and telephone will randomly scroll through the telephone contacts and begin calling. i have to unplug the phone to stop this.
Tl* the contact owned a 2019 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled intermittently without warning. the contact had to wait at least 10 to 12 seconds to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to country chrysler dodge jeep ram (2158 baltimore pike, oxford, pa 19363) where it was determined that the failure occurred when the oil level became low. the contact traded in the vehicle. the failure mileage was 4,400. the vin was unavailable.
Today we bought a new 2019 jeep cherokee vin [xxx] from quirk dealership in braintree ma. the car stalled 100 feet from the dealership leaving the lot - no ability to steer all systems died. these cars need to be recalled, very scary in traffic with no ability to move. this is not the first complaints i have seen, please help the consumer by recalling these vehicles. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
While pulling into a parking lot the vehicle engine shut down, it has done this three times in the past week. vehicle is now at the dealership. i had to put the vehicle in park in order to restart it. *dt *dt*jb
This problem occurs almost everytime you start the jeep and try to drive. it will let me drive about a quarter of a mile and then the vehicle will die when deaccelerating and lose power steering. after putting it back in park and letting it sit for a few minutes it will usually restart but it takes about 5-10 seconds for it to start. i have 5300 miles on the car and it is currently back at the dealer for the second time this month to try and pinpoint the issue. definitely, a safety hazard as it has stalled twice in the middle of intersections, once almost causing an accident with my wife and two year old in the car. hopefully, they rectify the issue on this visit or we will be getting rid of the car and steering clear of jeep from here on out. *bf. *tr
2019 jeep stalls when driving when oil is approx 2 quarts low, there are no warning lights or any indication that oil is low. dealership says this is common on this type of engine as it burns oil quickly.
Less than 30 days of purchasing the car it completely shut down while i was driving in traffic. battery light came on, car rolled to a stop and would not crank back up for a few minutes. this happened while driving at a speed of 55 - 60 mph. i called the dealership and they had me bring the car back in. apparently this is a safety feature that happens when the oil is too low!!! they did not top off the oil when i purchased the car. however, this is not a safe thing for a vehicle to do. i could have been killed in atlanta traffic on these interstates. this is beyond dangerous and this " feature " was not disclosed at the time of purchase!
Transmission jerks from 1st to 3rd gear, gives you wipe lash,
My car continues to stall intermittently. i received my car back from the service department on 31-oct-2019. later that day, on my way home from work, my car stalled going approximately 25 miles per hour. the vehicle lost all power and came to a stop on the 405 freeway. i was in stop and go traffic, which may have saved my life since other vehicles were driving slow and at times stopped. this allowed me some time while i attempted to restart the vehicle. it re-started and i made it home.
Car will abruptly stop with no warning then battery light will turn on. cannot always get car to crank back over quickly.
My 2019 jeep cherokee latitude was just exiting the interstate and approached a light on the off ramp. upon stopping and trying to accelerate my jeep began beeping and the "drive (d)" started blinking on the dash and gear. during this time my vehicle would roll backwards to the off ramp unless the emergency break was engaged. i was not able to press the gas, shifting into other gears did not do anything and the breaks were locked out. i was sitting in the bike lane blocking traffic and hoping to not get hit. i was able to roll downhill about 50ft and steer onto a side street. once there i again tried to shift to different gears and nothing seemed to work. as mentioned my breaks were locked and the gas pedal was out of service. finally, after exiting the major intersection i tried turning the car off and back on and it seemed to clear the error. my car is currently in the shop for this problem. something needs to be done about this though. if this would have happened seconds before serious injury or deaths could have been involved.
While driving on a major highway during rush hour, in the fast lane traveling at 70 mphs, the engine completely shut off. it was left costing and slowing in speed. no steering or breaking were effected. once i was able to get to the breakdown lane the the engine did restart while in low speed (30mph) and creeping along the break down lane the engine was 3rpms and shut off again. needing towing and is currently in for repair. 1900 miles to the vehicle.
When turning around the vehicle makes a weird noise and the brakes are not stable while trying to brake it doesn't respond immediately pulling forward the car.
2019 jeep cherokee with about 2000 miles on it suddenly stalled while driving at approximately 10 mph twice now. after putting it in park and a few tries at restarting the car ran ok. this occurred on 10/17/18 and 10/19/18 within a half mile from home after starting it for the first time in the morning. weather condition was approximately 70 and sunny after overnight temps of only low 60's. looking online at complaints, this appears to be an issue many people are experiencing with no real remedy from dealerships. i too have no choice but to take it to a dealership and hope they find a issue that can be fixed.
The engine shut off while driving the vehicle at 40 miles per hour. the car had 972 miles on it, and was purchased new a few weeks ago. *dt consumer stated car is not repaired and the dealer was not able to find anything wrong with the car. updated 11/30/18*jb
Takata recall. i was merging into the turning lane in busy traffic. as i was applying brakes and coming to a low speed the voltage light came on and the jeep completely stalled and lost all drivability. no other lights or anything was in the dash just the voltage. i put the car in neutral and managed to get it back started before getting hit in a busy intersection.
Vehicle shuts off while driving, causing me to have to put it in park and re-start the engine. two times when it happened, i wasn't going fast enough to coast to the shoulder, so had to start the vehicle in the middle of the street. vehicle has a hard time starting once stalled. service department at dealership informed me oil was low, vehicle wasn't due for an oil change yet. no warnings or indicator lights that oil level was low. service technician said to check oil every 1000 miles, on a brand new vehicle. said this engine uses a lot of oil. i'm concerned at pulling onto a busy road or into traffic and having vehicle die on me and getting hit.
Tl* the contact owns a 2019 jeep cherokee. while driving 15 mph, the vehicle stalled and the battery warning indicator illuminated. after a few minutes, the vehicle was able to be restarted and drove normally. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 4,900.
The car stalls while driving at low and high speeds. the engine will atop completely and the car rolls back or begins to drive backwards when it's restarted. this is a real safety concern as i have almost been hit 4 times now due to the car stalking in atop and go traffic and another time while driving at high speeds. also, the car appears to chug or hesitate to change gears. it's is slow to pick up speed and at times, it will not accelerate. the radio fluctuates in volume level constantly regardless of the programming and it's so bad that you can't even use it. i'm concerned for the safety of myself, my children and others as well. chrysler appears to have no concerns. unless someone dies, i'm afraid this issue will not be resolved.
