Driving at highway speeds, really anything about 50mph up to about 80mph, i feel the wheel stick when i try to correct the wheel to stay going straight. even when going around curves on the highways i can feel the stick and it's frightening sometimes. trying to explain it at the dealership to help them understand he hard and having them feel it might be harder without highway around here to get it up to those speeds for a period of time. this has happened by the way multiple times over the last 10000 miles.
I bought this jeep with 8 miles on it. at about 5,500 miles while driving straight the steering seems to almost have a dead spot where it feels like there is loss of control to the vehicle. this happens repeatedly causing possible over correct trying to determine if you have control of the vehicle or not. dealer has been called and awaiting to hear back. my first ever jeep purchase.
Ever since i purchase the vehicle it will pull to the left or right. when trying to correct the position of the steering wheel i feel resistance until it gives and jerks in the opposite direction. feels like something is getting stuck and then comes loose. this only happens when the vehicle is in motion and is very noticeable when going around 35-55mph. when at a higher rate of speed it is as though the momentum of the vehicle is helping it stay straight but it will still do it.
Previously, i reported issues with oil consumption, which eventually required an engine replacement. i now have an issue with steering wheel, feels like it is trying to correct itself when driving regular streets and highway with no issues of alignment, tires, etc. appt with napleton's arlington heights on 1/23/2020 did not mention anything that was done to look for issue, other than recall software update of 18va9182, which they said would solve the problem. however, the problem persists. in addition, i just received a safety recall notice from fca, stating that when i had taken my vehicle in for recall #18v739, that my vehicle was not properly inspected and the recall was closed. i told the dealership this was done completed and they said they would do the update, however, they had not completed the correct one, and the problem with steering still persists. i am worried this issue is a safety concern, and would like to be contacted to have this problem addressed.
When driving at highway speeds, there is almost like a "dead spot" in the steering. making small wheel adjustments within your own lane, it almost feels as if your tires break loose, but on dry pavement. when the steering then catches, it can cause a small jerk. if this happened on ice, it could easily become dangerous. it has been happening more and more frequently for the past month or so.
When driving on the freeway after about 20 minutes the vehicle appears to get a "dead spot" in the steering. when i move the steering wheel about 1/4" to the left or the right it feels like it is catching on something. i dropped it off at the dealership today and after about 6 hours they called and told me it was fixed. they said there was just an update that needed done on the steering. i will be picking it up later and will see if it is corrected. vehicle has 28k miles on it.
At highway speeds 60-75, while making small corrections while driving steering becomes slightly tight and then steering gives in and jerks. tightness and jerk happens in both directions. happens in every drive at highway speeds only.
When driving at highway speeds in a straight line, i experience a 'dead spot' or slippage with the power steering. mostly noticed turning the steering wheel slightly to to the right to make small adjustments. while making the steering input, nothing will happen at first, then as more pressure is applied, the steering will 'jump' slightly and catch. the effect is that it feels like you're driving on a very windy day when it's not windy at all.
Tl* the contact owns a 2019 jeep cherokee. the contact stated the vehicle would not immediately respond when turning the steering wheel. the contact indicated that the steering wheel had to be turned approximately 1/4 of an inch in either direction before the wheels would respond. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer colby dodge (1000 taylor ave colby ks) who performed a steering module update however, the failure persisted. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 22,000.
When driving at expressway / highway speeds of 60 plus for a non stop 30-50 miles, there is almost like a "dead spot" in the steering. when i move the steering wheel about 1/4" to the left or the right it feels like it is catching on something when making small wheel adjustments within your own lane, it almost feels as if your tires break loose, but on dry pavement. when the steering then catches. it also feels like there is gust of wind on both sides of the vehicle. it then jerks back and forth. there is also a burning smell for a short period of time. this started at 5500 miles. i have a 2019 jeep overland. it could easily become dangerous. had it at zeigler jeep in schaumburg il on 11/9/2019 and they recoded module and cound not recreat the proble. it has been happening more and more frequently since then. went back on 12/26/19 and took the tech for a 1.5 hour test drive and everything happened as stated above. the tech finally re-created the problem. my new 2019 jeep overland has been in the shop since then. they are sending engineers in from jeep. all i want is a safe car. ps; this is my first jeep product.
Over the last four weeks the steering has developed a 'dead zone'. the steering will jerk when pulled out of this 'dead zone'. i took the vehicle into firestone for an alignment to see if it would correct the issue. the technicians confirmed with me that there is an issue with the installation of the cradle of the vehicle.
I got a important safety recall for steering gear on 10/29/2019 i called the jeep, chrysler company on 10/30/2019 and advised me to take it to the dealer to change the part. took the car to dealer service on 10/31/2019, today is 11/21/2019 and the car is still in the service and each time they said that the are waiting for a part to come and change. and they found few parts to change. today is 11/21/2019 and the car still in service to fix and change the parts. called the co. and said that i am not safe to drive the car, because in the past i had the same issue in one of cars ten years ago after they replaced the steering gear part took the car and was driving on the highway and the steering gear loose and we had a big crash with my children and was a fatal accident. my car is lease on 09/01/2019 and refused to take it back and give another car, please help me and reply to my fearing, i called the jeep and chrysler dealer and they refused to take the defected car back and give another safety car i have two questions and need help as i am senior and live in boston and driving to ny on the highway please help me what shall i do, i don't know what to do or whom i ask for help ? -do you think that after they change the part of the steering gear will be safe to drive??? - for whom shall i call or contact to explain my problem and my fear?? your reply will be very important to me...please help and thanks in advance. a questions that i am not safe to drive the car again. and i don't know if the car will be safe to drive especially on the highway when you are driving 65 mph
2019 jeep cherokee limited 4 x 4, in service on 4/2019, with 13,700 miles as of 10/27/19. in last two days steering wheel is jerking in my hands, as though the lane sense feature is trying to bring vehicle into center of lane. that feature is disengaged and is never used. the jerk is slight but perceptible and always seems to be in a left to right motion. since i live in country and travel roads with speeds at 65+, great concern that this issue may lead to a failure of the steering system or steering wheel itself. had a similar issue many years ago with a ford vehicle, which resulted in a recall after the steering wheel on my vehicle actually came off the column and spilled bearings on the floor.
Tl* the contact rented a 2019 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate over 58 mph. also, the steering wheel swerved to the left and the contact lost control of the vehicle. the vehicle spun around and came to a stop on the other side of the road. all the air bags deployed. the rear driver's side occupant sustained injuries to the left leg, foot, arm, and shoulder. the contact sustained injuries to the head, neck, and back. medical attention was received. police report number: [xxx] was filed. the manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. the cause of the failure was not determined. the failure mileage was 11,382. *dt *tp 'parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'
While driving, mostly down the highway, my cherokee will have slipping/breakaway int the steering tension. it happens when moving the wheel in both directions. i drive an hour for work, and it happens probably 30 times minimum driving one way. this had happened previously and i had it looked at and they couldn't find anything. it stopped happening for a while after that (not sure if they did something), but is again doing it. i had it recently in to a jeep dealer for service on other issues and let them know about this and they indicated they didn't find anything right then, and didn't have more time to look into it. i let them know i feared for my safety (hoping i don't lose control). i also had let them know about the recall for the steering rack that i haven't seen shown up on the nhtsa list yet as a formal recall. my appointment is now 3 weeks out, but i want to make sure its documented that i made a complaint in case something happens between now and then. my jeep has about 27,000 miles on it now.
While the vehicle's engine is running, regardless of the gear selection, there is a slight jerking of the steering wheel. this jerking occurs at random with no other noticeable issues. this issue is not "throwing" a code and dealership is claiming there is no issue found. odometer is at 10340 miles. this is a dangerous issue as it could cause my vehicle to collide with another vehicle or object if not resolved. issue occurs when vehicle is stationary or in motion and occurs approximately every minute or so. it occurs on city streets as well as highway. it occurs while driving in a straight line or during a turn. there is no specific driving condition that resolves the problem or worsens the problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2019 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 19v637000 (steering) was received in october of 2019. the contact took the vehicle to farrish chrysler, jeep, dodge, ram (9610 fairfax boulevard, fairfax, va 22031, (703)-273-0200) and was informed that the part was not available. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that the additional part to complete the steering gear replacement was not available. the manufacturer provided the contact with case number: 71416456. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact had not experienced a failure.
As i was traveling about 30mph my power steering locked up. i wasn't able to turn the wheel at all. a service power steering light came upon my dash. when i called the dealership they refused to let me tow it there or fix it even though it was less than 6 months old and under warranty. i ended up having it towed there anyways without telling them. it was just a code that had to be cleared but they made me pay 120$ for labor even though it was under warranty and at no fault to my own. this is the only problem i've had with this vehicle other than that i love it. if i were in a different situation although it could have been very dangerous and i was very unhappy the way the dealership treated me.
While driving this morning at 70 mph my 2019 jeep cherokee 2.0 turbo lost all power, power steering and power brakes. i fought to pull it off the road. right when it stalled out the message center stated "auto start/stop not available" and the auto start/stop light illuminated along with the battery light. the 'd' drive indicator on the dash was blinking. upon stopping and placing the vehicle in park, it turned over but would not start. i placed the vehicle in neutral, and nothing. the car acted as if it were in auto stop as the door chime dinged when the door was open and headlights were off (push button start). locking the vehicle left the dash lit up like it was running. chrysler had it towed to the local dealership where it is waiting to be looked at. had my wife been driving this when it happened she might not have been able to pull to the side of the road with no power steering or brake assist.
After driving at freeway speeds of 60-70 mph, the steering begins to pull to the right continuously. then, without warning, it will suddenly pull to the left, then right, then the steering wheel will start to wobble and shimmy and a sense of loss of control of the vehicle is felt. the entire front end starts to shake. also, at the time this is occurring, the odor of hot oil permeates the interior of the vehicle. this problem happens every time the vehicle is driven for over an hour at freeway speeds. once, while this was going on the drive shaft front cv joint seized causing the drive shaft to come off the power transfer unit damaging the ptu output shaft. this vehicle, purchased new, has been in the dealer's repair shop four times for this problem (it is there now). in the past three months, it has been in that shop 65 days (so far). they have replaced the power transfer unit twice, the front cv joint and steering gear shield. this vehicle is unsafe to drive a freeway speeds. the problem appears to be the same one affecting the 2018 and 2019 jeep wrangler where the steering issues include shimmying, wobbling, looseness, and locking up. the jeep dealer where purchased and repairs attempted is dick hannah jeep, 3517 ne auto mall drive, vancouver, wa 98668.*dt*jb
When driving vechicle at about 50-55mph battery light and stop/start technology light comes on on the dash.shortly after i lose power steering.this has happened three times.very dangerous since you can lose control of vechicle.i have been able to pull over and shut down and restart vechicle to regain control.seems to happen randomly.brought to dealor after two times.they flashed and updated software,so they told me.happened again after about 7-10 days.very dangerous.vechicle under warranty.jeep does not seem to know the cause or the solution.please help before something happens to somebody.vechicle was travelling straight,in motion.when stopped at light or sign, could not turn.power steering was lost.engine still on,but no turning or steering function.happened once on highway, and twice on city streets.
Jeep cherokee eats engine oil too quickly. on my 3rd oil change in less than 10 months less than 2500 miles difference. car does not let you know when the vehicle has no more oil it will stall with no warning.
While just beginning to exit a freeway, my steering locked up completely. i had no control but recall seeing a red light just coming on the dash (obviously, i couldn't ascertain what they light was at the time as my car was doing multiple 360 spins down the exit ramp!) try as i might, i could not turn the steering wheel. this is one of the most terrifying moments of my life. after coming to rest against a traffic sign, i was able to see that it was an alert for my steering that had come on. it remained on even as i had the car towed to the dealer for inspection. i have experienced multiple injuries to my head, back, legs, wrist, hips, shoulder and hip. this is a most egregious failure and i am quite understandably reticent to trust any vehicle with this component. after 1 week, silence is the only sound i have heard from either the dealer or chrysler/jeep. this silence is most disturbing. no help for a rental or loaner, and as an investigation is ongoing, even my own auto insurance is not providing any support for the vehicle, but thankfully has stepped up to help with the medical bills.*dt *dt*jb *dt *dt *dt*jb *dt*jb *jb *dt *dt manufacturer offered to fix the steering.*jb *tr*jb *dt *tr *dt*dt*jb*jb*dt*jb*dt
Tl* the contact owns a 2019 jeep cherokee. while driving at low speeds, the vehicle stalled and restarted and all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact mentioned that when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle revved, but did not accelerate. the contact also mentioned that the steering wheel seized. the vehicle was currently at akins ford (220 w may st, winder, ga 30680, (770) 867-9136) for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 2,000.
This reports documents a second instance of power failure. on friday, jan 4 faii was driving on interstate hwy 287. the dashboard went dark at first and then started flickering. car then stalled while driving. the gas pedal no longer worked. the power steering failed. i coasted to the shoulder. when in park the dashboard came back on with battery, engine light, and p with circle and exclamation mark. a message came on display to service transmission. i had to be towed to the car dealership. at the dealership i was told the repair work wouldn't start until monday. on monday afternoon, i was told the battery connection was poor and they ordered a part. i also received a recall email that states the transmission needs to be fixed. i feel this vehicle is life threatening at this point. many cherokees have received 5 recalls and i only have one. please look into the cherokee limited 4 x 4.
This is the third time we have had an issue with my wife's jeep. 2019 jeep cherokee limited. first issue was just over a thousand miles, spent almost a month in the garage. going down the interstate at high speeds the car shuts down and you lose all power steering, the brake pedal gets hard, etc. you lose all lights in the dash, all power going up hills, have to stop completely and restart in order to go anywhere. serious safety issue as reported to jeep multiple times now and they have said is fixed. we have requested they swap out our vehicle with another new jeep and they refused. this is a serious serious safety issue where the ability to safely drive the car abruptly stops while you are driving. power steering completely shuts down as does the car transmission making it so you can go nowhere. we have been almost wiped out by a semi truck on the interstate, this is after their third attempt at fixing the vehicle and saying it is fixed. and safe. we have requested time after time for them to give us a new jeep and they refused because they don't want to dish out the money or whatever the case is. this vehicle can lose power steering and the transmission can go into neutral at any time while driving down the road causing you to be left with a very unsafe vehicle at highway speeds and potentially unable to steer the vehicle. it is a miracle that my wife who was 40 weeks pregnant at the time was able to put all her muscle into the car and steer it away from going over a cliff the first time when it died. the second time we were on the interstate on the way to a doctor's appointment. third time was today on the interstate again.
Steering will get very tight when going above 60 mph. it feels as if the power steering has been shut off. i have also noticed that it locks and if you move the steering wheel a little bit it clicks. to go along with this i feel as if i am always driving on a very windy day when going 60 mph or higher.
Our brand new 2019 jeep limited 4 x 4 with v6 engine (285 miles) was started up in our driveway i noticed the battery light was on. the dashboard stated the start/stop function was no longer working. the seat would not move for driver 2. we needed to get to an event and attempted to pull out of the driveway when we noticed the power steering was not working. we returned the car to its spot on the driveway. the car was started this morning with no battery icon showing and no dashboard memo. i'm afraid to drive this vehicle and will get it to a dealership.
On december 29th at about 5pm, i was traveling south at 40mph on plymouth sorrento rd in orange county fl.as i was driving, i heard a ding (1 ding almost as if my seat belt wants buckled, but it was) and at that time, my jeep shut down in travel. the first thing i noticed was the radio shut off and all the gauges, as i went to correct my steering, to get back in the center of my lane, i realized i had no steering capabilities, the steering wheel was locked. when i realized what had happened, i began to slow and the car came back on. this all took place in about 5 seconds. when i got my head straight and started back home, i noticed that the radio, control panel/gauges and a/c would not function properly. i could not change channel, turn air off, couldn't change volume or nothing. about twenty minutes later i arrived at my house and shut the car down. the radio continued to play. i had to start and shut the jeep down three time in order for the equipment to shut down. i called napleton jeep of clermont to come tow the jeep in and i called chrylser corp to notify them of the major safety hazard this was and problems this could have caused. searching the same year and model jeep on the internet, it appears this is a pretty common thing,. i explained it to one of the chrysler corp managers and he said it didn't matter how many vehicles this happened to, there is no problem. chrysler had the napleton dealer drive the car for about 90 miles over a week period and never had a problem. at that time i got a call from chrysler and napleton, stating i can pick my jeep up, there is nothing wrong. the jeep had about 2000 miles on it when this happened. we have had the jeep about 40 days when this happened, and because chrysler couldn't recreate the issues, they have just washed their hands of the problem.
My 2019 is about to have it's 3rd oil change, apparently it's supposed to go every 3,000 miles to get an oil change. when i called the dealership the guy that's in services didn't care of my concern regarding the cherokee turning off while driving during traffic especially in the freeways, all he kept saying yup yup yup. he kept telling me he has a paper stating that jeep cherokees new models are built like that now. all he offered was to do an oil consumption test which i have to make an appt for and go every 1,000 miles to get it read. i mentioned that the compass has the same type engine, however, with the compass i would go 5,000 miles or more. i cannot continue to pay for a car that puts me and my family at risk for accident. my car turns off completely all the lights on the dash board turns on before turning off and states it's the battery when it's not the battery. why hasnt this been recalled or fix my chrysler or fiat! the first time it happened was around christmas time then 3 months later. i had to get my first oil change before the 3 months of getting it.
Vehicle was leased on 10/5/18. on 10/13/18 with 342 miles while driving on a highway towards the mountains and making a turn into an exit the steering wheel locked up and steering wheel service light went on. the car almost smashed into the sidewall. i was able to stop the vehicle in time to avoid any accidents. there was also burned smell coming out of the hood. the car was towed to the nearest dealership. the dealership advised me that they have no available loan cars at the moment and to reach out to chrysler corp. i have still have not heard back from the dealership nor the case manager from chrysler corporation. i have made numerous attempts to reach to someone with no luck. i am surprised at the way the dealership where i leased the car, the dealership where the car was left for diagnoses and the chrysler corp is handling this issue.
My new car has 2,800 miles due for an oil change at 5 months/5,000 miles. the engine failed once for no known cause after 2 weeks in the repair shop. now my car died while in motion on busy roads and a highway ramp at speeds between 15-40 mph without warning or lights. this is sla safety hazard as the steering goes and car just comes to a stop without any warning. i had it towed after it's 5th time in 4 days stopping while in motion and shutting down. jeep told me it's empty on oil but yet the oil light indicator doesn't come on. they said it is a known issue without a fix for all 2014-2019 jeep cherokees. they are aware but are not fixing or addressing the oil consumption without light issue that puts drivers in motion at risk of an accident or losing their life. if no warning is coming on that your oil is empty long before a die oil change and my car can just die while in motion along with others as again they stated it's a known issue is a road hazard for anyone in these cars. my car is 3 months old and i feel unsafe driving it on any roads for fear i will be hit by another driver as it's just losing power and shutting down in the street in motion. jeep cannot fix this but knows about it.
I was driving down the street and all the sudden my car just shut off. i had no control over the vehicle at all. then it started driving backwards as it was in drive. i couldn't not get it to go into park and it took a minute or 2 to get it into park. the. the dash told me to turn the car back on and it wouldn't turn back on at first. this is the second time this has happened to me. the vehicle was moving and just all the sudden turned off. i went and checked the oil after reading about this with other customers and i had no oil in my car.
My 2019 jeep cherokee will just randomly shut off while drive i will lose power to power steering and engine
When driving mostly at highway speeds but sometimes at lower speeds the steering gets tight when making a slight adjustment to the steering, which makes me pull it harder to get it loose and then have to over compensate to get the vehicle back in a straight line. this is extremley dangerous because it has caused me to run off the highway and come very close to hitting other vehicles. i have had it in the shop at the dealership 3 times and chrysler looked at it and said this is normal with the electronic speed sensitive steering. this should not be normal because it is putting my life in danger. this issue has been since i bought the vehicle august 2018.

Right after leases the new car , drive down to highway engine light on staring wheel not moving , stop the car side of highway, tow the car to other jeep dealer ,day after they called its working but didn't know what is problem. talk to original dealers to ask change other new one but they dined.
