I have a 2018 jeep cherokee with under 30,000 miles on it. my car's stalled in the middle of an intersection while taking a right turn. my brakes and steering were locked, causing me to drift up on to a curb and hit a sign. no warning or indicator lights came on in the car prior to this. i had the car towed to the dealership that i am leasing the car from. i was told that this is common with jeeps, that the car will burn through oil very quickly, that no low oil indicator light will come on, and that the engine will shut down as a 'safety feature.' i was told that there is nothing i can do to protect myself beyond getting oil changes every 3k miles and that it 'should' be fine. again, there is absolutely no warning that the car will shut down or that there is an issue prior to it turning off while in motion. the car shutting off while in motion was referred to as a safety feature by the dealership who would only offer me an oil change as a fix.
The 2018 jeep cherokee latitude consumes oil and has a mechanism where if the car is low on oil it will just shut off when driving. this is a serious safety hazard as the car gives no warning it is low on oil. someone is going to get killed one day when these cars just shut off in the middle of driving.*dt consumer stated the first of roughly 15 occurrences occurred at 31k miles. the most recent happened at 41,100 miles. usually while traveling 25-35 mph and usually happens 2k-3k miles from last oil changed. there is no warning lights on dash or alarms car just literally dies. .*jb
My 2018 jeep cherokee latitude plus shut off while driving. the first time (12/8/2019 @ 1200 hrs) i was pulling up to a stop sign and it just shut off. no dash indicator warning lights and it had plenty of fuel. the second time (12/9/2019 @ apprx 1600 hrs)i was turning left onto a very busy city street and it shut off. i was able to coast to the side of the road so i wouldn't get hit. again no warnings at all. after apprx 10 minutes car was able to restart. drove straight to dallas dodge(apprx 23 miles.) they said it was low on oil. should add oil or get oil change. but since they were closing they did not have anyone who could help. also said an oil consumption test needed to be done, but they could not perform it. oil change places were closed. i drove to auto zone and purchased a 5 qt bottle of synthetic oil. added 3 qts. to fill. 16-dectook car to appointment @ ed voyles. they had to add 1.5 qts of oil. said to bring it back in 1000 miles ...
The car stopped working while in motion in the middle of the street while turning towards my apartment complex. i had my daughter inside the car with me and i was afraid cars will come since i was in the middle of the street were cars pass by to enter the apartment complex. i was able to push the car after calling my dad who helped me take it to a safe spot and jump start the car. the car worked after doing a jump start and i was able to park it at my parking spot. the next day i was leaving to drop off my daughter to school and same thing happened again. i was inside the car coming out (in motion) and the car stopped suddenly and wouldn't turn. i called road assistance this time. they sent me a towing company to take it to the closest jeep dealership. since the car was not able to turn on at all, they were not able to take it. they said the car need it a flat bed tow truck since it didn't start at all. they were able to tow the car 3 days later on saturday ...
Car stalled and the panel stated shift to park on panel and would not crank back. tried multiple times and had a long hard crank and engine finally caught up and cranked. shifted into park and went about 1000 - 1500 feet and it died again. waited and tried to crank again and went to hard crank again before starting. took to dealer and they claimed low oil. this is the reason for going dead. stated i needed oil changes every 5k after i was told initially 10 k then at 1st oil change told 7500k and then at this problem they stated no it was definately 5 k. this time, panel lights up and says service shifter soon. all lights on drive shifter lights up. not just on park or reverse or drive. all lights illuminated. they come and go. i also have smelled something burning the last day or so as well. could not confirm yet. i will continue to watch out for this. 1st date 12/4/19 and serviced at dealer on 12/5/19 mileage 31146 and now this is 2/4/20 mileage today is 34116
2018 jeep cherokee limited has stalled out multiple times over the last week (12/5/19), upon slowing and starting. the stalling has caused me to come to a dead stop on a main roads. i was almost rear ended because i could not restart and move out the way. the display shows a "shift select" reading. when trying to restart, the engine acts like it is struggling to start back. everything else shows all is normal.
Vehicle has stalled approximately 10 times in the last 2 weeks. some on the streets and 3 times on the freeway. half the time i was with my children. you have to put it back on park, wait about 10-15 seconds, then switch it on an off three times before it starts again.

Making a right turn, engine shut off no power, lights stated i must be in park to shift warning lights. the jeep would not start. i had experienced no prior issues before this happened. i called my husband who arrived and drove it home. i called the dealership and they basically told me this was a known issue with this motor and to check the oil. upon checking the oil there was very little on the dipstick. once again i contacted the dealership and was told i basically need to keep a check on the oil. this is a safety hazard!
Started car and put into drive. started driving service shifter came up. all the lights in my shifter lit up.
My vehicle was in motion. i was driving down the city street and suddenly a meaasge appeared on my screen 'service shifter' and the jeep began to jerk. the lights on each gear turned red. when i got to a place to park. i cut the jeep off and turned it back on. i then received a message when i put the jeep in drive to verify if it would drive and i received another message stating 'shift to park'. the jeep began to jerk again. i've had this jeep for one year exactly bought it with only about 3,000 miles on it and within 3 months it completely stopped on me in the middle of the road. the car would not drive at all. i had to get it towed to the dearlership where it was an issue with the engine and oil that had to be fixed and took almost 2 weeks. this jeep has all type of problems and needs to be recalled
