We have classified the 679 complaints from 2015 Jeep Cherokee about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Transmission is very jerky when shifting, often fails to shift into higher gears without long pauses. vehicle seems to vibrate in lower gears
The vehicle shut off when driving. after calling a jeep dealer and asking if they where having any trouble like this. i also informed the dealer that the cherokee had 36500 miles 500 over covered warranty. i was informed the work would not be covered so i took it to a local garage. was told it needs a thermostat. had to call a dealer after several attempts to locate the part. all the dealer said the part is on national back order. if the part is that popular to replace that you cant keep it in stock than there most be an issue. this vehicle is not safe if this part is causing the motor to shut off when driving down the road at highway speed. their seems to be a lot of trouble with this vehicle. i hope chrysler will not just let the issue go hoping that people just deal with it there self. been to the garage 3 times and still have 5 years to pay for it. it is enough of a problem that i thought i would take this step.called chrysler customer service first time was disconnected before i could type my massage. second time was told they could put a rush on my part gee thanks.how about just make a vehicle that will not get someone killed by shutting of on the highway. thank you [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Transmission has been making a whining noise took it in they said they couldn't find anything . today 12/4/17 two weeks later it"s doing same thing whining in tranny /driveshaft area
While pulling out, into traffic, my tire caught some icy slush. it started to spin. as i was already on the road in traffic, i gave it more gas to go. the engine revved. i noticed the rpms had pegged around 6000+. i noticed no traction control, at least not how i have felt it in other vehicles. i finally got out in traffic. this is when my car went haywire. the dashed flashed a warning that my car was going into safe mode and would be shifting to neutral. then there was a loud clunk and it felt like i got hit from behind. i did not, although i'm sure the person i pulled in front of would've like to have hit me, as he was blowing his horn at me and flipping me off. my car was now in neutral and couldn't go anywhere. i pulled to the side of the road. as i came to a stop my car engaged the parking brake. i was panicked and scared. i turned off my car. i called my husband. i tried to restart my car. it restarted but i could not disengage the parking brake. the check engine light came on. the traction control light came on. the brake light came on. my husband showed up and through trial and error he found out that he could only disengage the parking brake if the car was in neutral. he drove it around some and it seemed fine. i drove it to work, with all those dash lights still on. i called the dealership and got my car in. within 2 days the dashlights had turned off and everything seemed to be normal. i took my car in and since there were no lights on at that time they couldn't diagnose anything. they told me it was a safety override and i just needed to learn to drive it. (i was livid, as i have had many problems with the transmission) a vehicle should not shut down in traffic. luckily i was on a rural road when this happened. i couldn't imagine what could of happened if i was pulling out across 5 lanes of traffic or merging on to a busy freeway. this is unacceptable.
2015 jeep trail hawk approximately 1st 10,000 miles electronics multiple alarms no 4 wheel drive, parking brake error, check transmission light on while driving. loss of some steering, heavy... car is shifting chaotically. check engine no visible issues. took to dealer ship the next day they re-flashed software kept it for the night no other issues until 12/11/2016 when a duplicate of the first event occurred. took to dealership same thing as reported before, plus oil leak (no oil in my garage upper oil leak) and the dealership completed a transmission re-call repair to fix transmission errors on the 9 speed. all repairs under warranty to date only cost to me is rental cars and lost time at work. 12/19 duplicate again of two events only difference is the car was having a hard time starting on two occasions today but drove fine. on one occasion the motor starter would not stop engaging the engine and it would not start. my foot was not on the brake, and i was not pressing the start button, it was just stuck in start. i pumped the breaks and hit the engine button and it stopped maybe 20 seconds later. the car always returns to normal after it sits for a few hours all the alarms go away and the check engine light is on but it tests drives fine. last recall noted the same issue and my recall repair on 12/12 was to fix the issue, at this point feel i am pretty lucky to be on side street a few miles from home when errors occur not sure what would happen on the highway. just checked the engine and fluids all ok will take to dealership tomorrow. took pictures of the top of the engine and below the car no leaks no fluid issues seems to be a software or programming issue. the dealership has been great don't think they have much control over the problem. *tr
Even though chrysler recalled these vehicles to repair faulty nine speed automatic transmission systems (nhtsa campaign #16v529000), the problems are still recurring again and again following the repairs. the transmission wire harness is not being replaced, in my case the transmission was replaced but the problems continued. the auto is returned to the owner without proper road testing and with the same life/safety faulty conditions, that makes the moving auto to unexpectedly shift to neutral or engine turn-off. also, sometimes the problem occurs when turning while in motion, with a strong steering pulling that forces the auto to the side with stability control or power steering systems not in operation (control light comes on). in order to continue moving, the auto has to be stopped in the middle of the road, placed in park and re-started while other autos are on the road near me, obviously very dangerous! these autos should not be on the road, until the problem is proven to be finally resolved by chrysler. if the manufacturer is allowed to continue with the "trial & error" solutions, then all applicable warranties will eventually expire and the auto owners will end up with a defective auto, that is not operable, is unsafe and will ultimately has no value.
2015 jeep cherokee trailhawk 18281 miles - v6. 1:45pm 12/13/16 i was stopped in an intersection making a left hand turn. came time to go, hit the gas and heard a loud "crack" from the front/passenger side of the jeep then a "rattle", then nothing. the engine revved up but no power to the wheels. rolled through the intersection, pulled over, put the car in park and turned off the motor. got out, looked around, nothing broken, no fluid on the ground. popped the hood, again, nothing noticeable. re-started the vehicle and the engine light was on. put the vehicle in drive, but would only go about 10 mph... the motor would rev up, but again no power to the wheels. limped along the highway with the flashers on and pulled onto a safe side street and called triple-a. as i was sitting, engine off, i began to roll... the vehicle was in park but was still rolling forward! cranked the wheels into the curb and set the e-parking brake. got a tow to the local dealership and explained the situation to the service tech. thought i'd post as well so others could see. so far, the dealership has been really helpful. i'll be following up and updating as we go.
A wobble is felt when vehicle is accelerated from a dead stop or rolling start. it usually occurs between 10 and 20 mph.
While driving my vehicle across an intersection on a city street my transmission went, in the middle of the intersection. my vehicle came to a crawl and i was unable to give it gas , all the while traffic was coming at me in both directions. my passenger had to get out of the car and push it back out of the intersection. then my car would not go into park, again almost rolling back into traffic. *tr

For a few months my vehicle has been changing gears abruptly while driving often jumping from stops and jumping during acceleration. now at 37000 miles owning it less than 2 years the engine light has come on and service transmission soon with no acceleration. i have taken my foot off the brake to start from a stop and during one of the jumps i almost rear-ended the car in front of me.
I purchased the cherokee a few months ago and have been plagued with transmission problems. it jerks and will surge while in park. it won't change gears as it should. the check engine light came on and took it to the local dealer. they have to replace the thermostat housing. they did "flashes" and "relearns" for transmission problems. as soon as i drove off the lot, the transmission was performing exactly as before with no improvement.
I have had the engine light come on several times and the dealer had my car for 8 hours and said it was repaired and i drove it 2 miles down the road from the shop and the engine light came back on so after 2 weeks wait it went back in and noe the dealer is saying i need a new transmission and chrysler is only willing to replace my transmission with 7500 mile on it with a remanifactured transmission which is bs.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled. the manufacturer referred the contact to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the oil needed to be changed and the throttle body replaced. the transmission was previously replaced at 26,000 miles. the dealer was informed by the manufacturer to complete the recall repair per nhtsa campaign number: 16v529000 (power train). the manufacturer was aware of the failures. the failure mileage was not available.
Car had run fine then we had parked outside a store, when we got back into the car it started fine but would not engage into gear, display stated service transmission and parking brake. display then stated put car into drive when at 0 mph which we were. could not drive car and had to be towed to nearest dealership. day before whilst driving we had noticed a stumble in acceleration which felt like the vehicle was going to stall, that cleared up the next day until it broke down. dealership stated it was the valve body failure and had to be replaced. *tr
On two occasions the following sequence of events have happened. 1. "check engine" light appears. message reads "service transmission". 2. immediately transmission no longer responds. 3. turn off vehicle. upon restarting "check engine" light remains on but vehicle returns to functioning normally. 4. take vehicle in to check the trouble code. upon restarting vehicle the "check engine" light no longer appears. the issue first occurred at around 31,500 miles while traveling surface roads at about 40 mph. i took it in to the dealership for an unrelated recall notice and informed them of the other issue. they said they would inspect the transmission for any and all issues. the vehicle was returned to me and i was assured there was no issue. at around 34,000 miles the issue happened again; this time it happened driving on a busy highway at 70mph. upon taking it in to an autozone the trouble code read "p0887 tcm power relay control circuit high". the dealership told me they aren't aware of that code and it is currently in their possession to investigate. *tr
My malfunction indicator light came on and i noticed that the car was not shifting properly and that when it shifted it was doing so at about 4 to 5k rpms. i took the car to jeep to have it repaired. jeep stated that all has been fixed to date but the car is still not shifting properly. in addition my car gets every service at jeep and my car only has about 22k on it so to have issues already is very concerning.
Takata recall the vehicle is experiencing issues while shifting in lower gears 1-3. the car will rev high and give a jerk before shifting. this happens when at a stop and you begin to accelerate. this also occurs in slow moving traffic. also, it experiences issues when merging into a highway or lane traveling at speeds of 35ish. when making a turn at a stop sign the car will also hesitate and give a little jerk. i have also noticed that when traveling at 30-35 the car is in 5th gear which in return when you need to accelerate it has to down shift to take off which there is a delay before acceleration occurs. this has been on going for about 2 months.

Transmission shifts hard. vehicle will lurch forward when shifting gears. happens when stopped at a light and press the accelerator or when going slow (coming to speed bumps) and accelerating - vehicle will lurch. purchased the vehicle (brand new) in october of 2015 and 3 days after purchase, the vehicle shut down at a stop light and transmission light came on. i restarted vehicle and had to "limp" it to my office where it was towed (30 miles) to the dealership. the rpms will race when shifting to another gear. one year after purchase, the transmission light came on again, the transmission was shifting hard, was able to limp it to the dealership. dealer has completed flashes to the computer of the transmission. it's been 2 months since the last time i took it in for transmission and it's starting to shift hard and lurch again. this vehicle is unsafe and should be recalled by the manufacturer.
We purchased this vehicle as a 'certified pre-owned' and felt confident that since it was 'certified' it was in excellent condition. we have owned the vehicle since august 2016 and have had numerous issues with the transmission. we have taken it to our local jeep dealer/shop and they said they can't find anything wrong with it. they have performed two system updates and thought that might be the issue. when taking off from a stopped position or slowed/almost stopped position the transmission has a pause. on numerous occasions we have almost gotten hit because the transmission paused. we have also had occasions when it will pause and then just kick in and take off like someone stepped all the way down on the gas pedal. even though i have been told by the jeep service department that this is 'normal' i feel this is anything but 'normal'. this vehicle is an accident waiting to happen and i do not feel safe driving it. *tr

My 2015 jeep cherokee trailhawk has been back and forth to the dealer for problems i've had with acceleration and braking. i've been trying to get on the highway and step on the gas with no acceleration. there are times i'm trying to stop and it bucks almost like it doesn't want to stop. it's been back and forth with computer updates, electrical components being updated etc. this issue is still occurring. this issue happens when going up hills, down hills, on straight aways etc. it can happen when starting from a complete stop or just when accelerating while the vehicle is already in motion. i do have receipts as to what they have replaced if needed. this issue is still occurring.

While going up a steep hill,it makes a thump/bang when shifting between 4th and 5th gear automatically. it does not happen all the time. you can actually feel a vibration through the floor boards when it happens. it also hesitates slightly when it occurs. the noise it loud enough that even if the radio is on it can me heard. my wife in the passenger seat also made comment that she heard the noise and felt the vibration. auto transmissions are not supposed to shift like this. i was told recently that is characteristic of the vehicle to shift ruff between those gears but this is more then just ruff shifting. it also accelerates on it s own when you leave off the gas on it's own and not slow dpown lie it should
Service transmission at 24,100 miles. drove to work and then vehicle wouldn't start afterwards. then, i put the brake on and it started with the message: service transmission and when i put it in drive and the vehicle jerked. towed the vehicle to the dealership and the dealership is backlogged with transmission issues my car is still in line to be checked out.
When attempting to pass another car the transmission suddenly went into neutral. vehicle lurches sometimes and transmission is not predictable. wife is scared to drive it after it went into neutral while trying to pass with it. dealer said they can find nothing wrong!

The shifter is faulty. if i'm at a stop sign i never know if my jeep is going to stall or if it's going to thrust me into traffic. i was inches away from being hit by a semi because of this. i took it to the dealership i bought it at and they said they didn't see any problem at all and sent me on my way. now randomly my jeep will stall from park to drive for a solid 5 to 10 seconds and after in first gear i have to almost floor it to get it to accelerate. i literally went up to 5000 rpms before my jeep would even start to accelerate, let alone switch from 1st gear to second.

Transmission problems and electrical problems had the car at dealership at least 3 to 4 time for over a week at the time called jeep headquarters at least 20 times and they are very bad with costumer service. i am worried about the safety for my family driving the car, since transmission issues should not be handled like that. no support from jeep capital. *tr
My 2015 jeep cherokee trailhawk has has transmission problems since the day i bought it. it has suffered from very hard shifts which slam and jerk into gear. mostly from 1st to 4th gears. the slamming is so hard it actually jerks the vehicle and is quite alarming. the next major problem with the transmission is that it randomly feels like as if "the clutch is slipping". i'll try to accelerate and it often takes a second or two before the transmission "catches" and the car will accelerate. it reminds me of a clutch slipping on an old stick shift. it'll slip and when it does finally catch it'll spin the tires, similar to "popping the clutch" in a stick shift. this is very dangerous specially when trying to pull out in busy traffic. you never know if it's gonna accelerate properly or if it's gonna slip and take a couple seconds to catch. i have had my jeep in the dealership multiple times for these issues and so far all they've done is software updates, which hasn't solved either problem. i have detailed these problems very specifically and i've been told each time that these software updates would fix the problems. however, these problems are still occurring. i drive with my wife and two year old daughter in my car and i fear that someday my jeep will fail to accelerate properly and will cause an accident.
I have to complain of the emergency brake coming on by itself, its when i'm backing up and in motion, this has happened at least 7 times in the 15 months i have owned this car, second complaint is when i accelerate , the car just sits there for several seconds, i'm trying to make a left or right turn, on a highway, i feel this is dangerous in both cases.
The transmission is not working when the vehicle is shifted into drive, reverse, no power sent to the wheels only revs up. the vehicle also makes a grinding noise when the vehicle is placed into park and check engine light is on. an indicator states on the dash states get transmission serviced. stalled out on my way home from work had to push it about a block. calling the dealer today.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. while driving 65 mph, the check transmission and service engine warning indicators illuminated and the vehicle decelerated to 45 mph. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer (metro jeep located at 650c memorial dr chicopee, ma 01020 877-220-8331) where it was diagnosed that an update was needed. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened case number: 32118538. no further assistance was provided. the failure mileage was 25,240.
Service shifterwarning intermittently staying on. resets sometimes by restarting car.. was serviced for this twice by dealer under warranty. not sure what might happen if it completely fails while driving. happens moving or stationary.
While driving the transmission shifts unexpectedly and hard when accelerating and decelerating. it shifted so hard the other day that i though someone had hit me! the shifting at slow speeds and stop and go traffic is also rough causing jolts and rough handling. i feel unsafe driving this suv, but do not have any other mode of transportation. additionally, while traveling at 55-60 mph with cruise control on or off, the transmission does not leave 6th gear. it's a 9 speed transmission and despite trying different speeds it does not use anything beyond 6th gear.
I was driving home from work 9/20/2016. my service transmission light came on and i lost power in my gas pedal. would not go. i pulled over and put it in park. put it back in drive and it was fine for a few more miles then did it again. i drove it straight to the mechanic. the computer said it was the throttle control module. he reset it and updated it. i got it back last night. i was driving to work today nad it was fine until i got on the interstate and it did it again, light came on and my car immediately slowed down. this is not safe at all. i have read many many complaints about this issue and i believe jeep should be responsible for this. i will be trading this vehicle as soon as possible
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. while driving, the vehicle decelerated independently. the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond and the battery warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to a dealer, but the contact was unaware of the diagnosis. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v529000 (power train). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 38,000.
Nine speed automatic transmission. this is a safety issue. the transmission in the lower range of gears searches for the proper speed gear and when it finds one, it jumps into gear causing the vehicle to lurch and at times causes the vehicle to over accelerate. at higher speeds, the transmission will drop into a gear with a heavy thump which shakes the whole vehicle. the really serious problem is with the transmission when using cruise control. just last week, i had the cruise control set at 55 mph and when on a downhill portion of roadway, the transmission suddenly went into a higher gear and the vehicle began a rapid acceleration. before i could hit the brake to disengage the cruise control, the vehicle was traveling at well over 60mph. i have had the vehicle in four times to the dealer and they only do computer updates and can find nothing wrong with the transmission. when i call jeep to complain, they send me back to the same dealer and nothing gets done. i think that this is a great safety issue and i feel that this vehicle will get me killed. i am a retired police officer who has driven hundreds of thousands of miles in a wide variety of vehicles having automatic transmissions and this is by far and away the worst one i have even used. final note, the computer updates installed by the dealer has not improved the transmission and has decreased my overall gas mileage by 2 mpg. kind of throws off the epa estimates, doesn't it.
At 17,000 miles, i started having issues with my cherokee. the first time the engine of the vehicle stalled on me, i was on my way to work. i powered off the engine and it successfully restarted after one attempt. i brought it to my dealership later that day to find out i was "out of oil", this was roughly 2500 miles into my most recent oil change (which is projected for 5000 miles). i was disappointed, due to the vehicle being a year old. the dealership added some oil and i was on my way. shortly after, i started noticing the engine would rev to high rpm's when the vehicle was stationary, the rpm's would increase drastically when breaking, the vehicle would jump between gears 1-3, making increasing your speed extremely difficult as you never knew when the vehicle would actually take off. my dealership was "unable to duplicate " this issue, and i was sent on my way. fast forward 9 months, and my vehicle dies on me as i am leaving work. however, this time, it took multiple attempts to restart the vehicle. i was finally able to start it by putting my foot on the gas, and any time i took my foot off of the gas, the engine would stall. i drove with two feet to the dealership that day, and found out once again i was "out of oil". the dealership recommended an "oil consumption test", which means bringing your vehicle to the dealership at various mile markers (500,1000, 2000, 2000). at this time, they would check the oil levels and refill any lost oil. through this, i found out my vehicle was "burning through" 1 quart of oil every 666.67 miles. chrysler guidelines say a vehicle of my specifications should use 1 quart in 2000 miles. this vehicle is a beautiful death trap on wheels, and such a disappointment to jeep lovers everywhere. stay away.
Purchased vehicle used 9/17/2016. on monday 9/19/16 i pulled out of a parking spot at work, put the car into drive and found that it wouldn't move. all of the shift panel lights went on, the dash flashed a series of errors, and the car was in what appeared to be neutral. this would happen 10 more times between 9/17 and 11/19 to both me and the service advisor at the dodge dealership. at one point it went into this immobile state as i backed out of my driveway at 6:30 a.m., leaving me in the street with a car coming from behind. this problem remains un-resolved as of 12/7/16. dealer can't find cause. problem occurs most when cold and shifting from reverse to drive. *tr
I was driving down the freeway when my service transmission came on and my vehicle instantly lost power and started jerking and grinding. due to being on the freeway i almost got into a wreck with both of my kids in the car. i am not happy with this due to the dealer not having any parts available to fix it. i drive 40 mins to work and back and i now do not have a safe car to drive. very disappointed wih this car and i want something done asap. i will not be associated with jeep anymore. if something would of happened today i would definitely file a lawsuit.
2 problems. first. the following malfunction later caused an accident, detailed below. when driving on the highway, the cruise control would disengage, speed would drop and the steering wheel would jerk violently side to side for a moment, startling us and possibly forcing us into another lane. we thought the jerking may be due to strong winds but wanted to get the cruise control checked. this happened a couple more times in the 2h 30m drive before ultimately ending in an accident. that same trip, nearing our destination, while turning left on a single-lane off-ramp connecting the current highway to a perpendicular highway, it happened again. unlike the previous instances where there were no obstacles around, this time our car violently ricochet against both sides of guard rails. visually, the body was barely damaged but the tires and the inner assembly were too damaged to drive. second. these symptoms precede the one written of above that caused the accident. when coming close to stopping, the car would jerk forward. when accelerating from zero, the car would pause and suddenly jerk forward.a
Transmission problems for almost a year now, truck violently jerks forward on acceleration mostly from a dead stop but sometimes in motion and on deceleration has almost caused many front and rear accidents. recently on my way home from new jersey the check engine light came on indicating service transmission the vehicle lost power while i was on the parkway almost caused an accident. i pulled over and turned off the vehicle then restarted the check engine light was still on, but i regained power to drive. that lasted a minute or two then the same thing happened. truck lost power was in a fail safe mode barely drove above 30 or 40mph. what a long, unsafe trip home to say the least. i've had nothing but problems with this truck and have numerous complaints and repairs at the dealership. now it's apart of this recall and no parts are available. the dealership says this problem is the recall, but they can't fix it yet. i've been without my truck for almost 2 weeks this is awful and i'm frustrated and fed-up with this vehicle. i want out of this lease asap. and ps they put me in a dodge dart loaner care are you kidding me i drive a truck for a reason!

Transmission shifts hard. lags at take off, several seconds before it catches a gear, and down shift hard when coming to a stop. vehicle jerks to a stop. when depressing has pedal to take off, it can be 2-4 seconds before gear catches, causing dangerous close calls, from oncoming vehicles. happens daily after recall for a/c hose was fixed. told vehice would relearn our driving style. now it's dangerous.
