We have classified the 679 complaints from 2015 Jeep Cherokee about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Our jeep feels as though it is bucking/transmission will slip. we have taken it to the dealership only to be told that they can't duplicate the issue or they have did a software upgrade that should fix the problem. it is only a bandaid and decreases the amount it does the bucking but will go back to normal after a few hundred miles. recenlty our screen as well will not turn on for up to 5th minutes of driving and occasionally get a message that says the phone is out of service and to contact dealer. again we contact the dealer only to be told they can not duplicate the issue and nothing can be done. the shifting happens generally when going in between the speeds of 5-35 mph. it's becoming scary to drive as we jerk while in motion.
The vehicle lags on takeoff, shifts roughly between gears, lags between gears, and lurches. the automatic transmission does not function smoothly and, at times, has caused safety concerns related to inadequate acceleration and lurching forward unexpectedly. these problems occur in motion on city streets and on the highway. the vehicle has been in and out of the dealership for service related to the transmission control module (tcm). we have been told that it is not covered under the power train warranty, even though it is part of the transmission system. the date provided below is the latest service. however, the vehicle has been serviced two other times for the same problem.
Transmission jerks and hesitates also popping sound when putting into gear and shifts very hard.
Service shifter error comes up at least 3 times a week while driving in town. i have had 3 transmission fixes and the shifter worked on and now this keeps happening!
After the transmission is totally warmed up, taking off from a stop may cause the transmission to slip and then jump into gear with a jerk. this is more prevalent when starting uphill or downhill. dealer says everything is fine but my wife almost ran into the back of a car because of it.
Transmission jerks
Transmission lags upon acceleration, hesitating for up to several seconds and then lurching forward as it engages into gear. this occurs most times and when moving ahead after a brief stop at a stop sign or light.
The transmission shifts hard and sometimes skips gears. it will shift very late and do a jolt and it feels likes i was hit by another car, gives a slight whiplash feeling to the passengers. sometimes when i go from reverse to drive the back wheels lock up and the back half of the car lowers to the ground while the front of the vehicle rises. the vehicle also sometimes accelerates on its' own when i don't have my foot on the gas. i can be driving at any point around 20-30mph and my rpms will jump to 3000+ and the engine makes loud noises like it is being overworked to go 20 mph and it will stay like that for a good 4-8 seconds. all of these problems have drastically decreased the mpg my car gets. all of these problems are when the car is in motion. the "start/stop" feature also has many problems. if i forget to turn it off i can be at a red light and once it turns green i let go of the brake and go to hit the gas and the car is still in the process of starting back up, takes anywhere between 1-3 seconds to startup. this has almost caused me to get into several accidents. i don't feel safe in this car anymore. it was fine up until about 30,000 miles, but it has gone down hill since then. i am at about 45,000 miles right now.
With or with the "auto-start" feature turned on, when turning from a stop or yield (such as turning across traffic), pressing on the throttle pedal causes a pause like the transmission is not engaging then takes off like you slammed on the gas. this has happened multiple times over the last year or so and taking it in to the service department brings nothing but more frustration. this is done on hot or cold engines, no matter the ambient temperature. serious safety issue.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. while driving between 18 and 40 mph, the contact heard a chiming sound and the battery warning indicator illuminated. within three seconds, the "shift to park designated gear" warning indicator also illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was towed to the dealer (chrysler, dodge, and ford fiat of bay ridge, 8635 18th avenue, brooklyn, ny 11209). the dealer stated that they would perform diagnostic testing and notify the contact of the results. the manufacturer instructed the contact to notify them after the dealer completed the diagnostic test. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 20,005.
Service shifter error message appears and all shifter lights turn red. this happens when the vehicle is in motion. this is the third time it has happened. the second time, the vehicle went into limp mode and a "service transmission" message appeared. a valve that was stuck was replaced 3 months ago, now the "service shifter" message is back.
'service shifter' occurred repeatedly while driving all lights on shifter light up and the instrument cluster lights come on check engine blinks then stays on. has had shifter replaced once, now in 4 months time it did the same thing. begins to shift hard and jerks some while driving making steering wheel move rapidly for a split second all while going down road doing 25-30 mph
Thermostat needed replaced at 55,000 miles. thermostat problem has been continually reported but yet no recall. some dealerships have a 2 month wait to replace because of such a high demand. transmission warning came on while driving on the interstate. pulled over and turned car off and back on. car seemed fine until i took it over 55mph and it did the same thing. had to pull over again and turn it off and on. car almost stalls in the middle of the interstate. took it the dealership who updated the software. car already not shifting correctly on the ride home.
My car has exactly 50,000 miles and has been maintained impeccably to start. on march 30th after it had rained the previous day, while driving on the bonnet carre spillway going approximately 60mph my lift gate seemed to unlatch and end result my backpack containing my laptop hundreds of dollars worth of textbooks and my apple ipad flew out. when i pulled over the lift gate refused to hatch as well as the button in the car and on the fob to close the trunk would not work. not only have i lost at least $850 worth of my electronics and textbooks i am left with the risk that anyone can get in my car via the lift gate that will not close and potentially steal my car. on april 2nd 2018 after leaving work from the hospital i was driving on regular traffic roads between 35-55 miles per hour and my jeep was shifting into neautral slowing down and the rpm gauge was accelerating to 4-5 for only 35 miles per hour. i then called the dealership to find out there is a recall in which i was never notified by anyone and my vin was ineligible but if it was i would have to leave my car and pay for the expense of a rental car. i am a widowed mother and a loyal customer to jeep as this is my third jeep and i am stuck with this vehicle that is riddled with constant recalls that is unsafe for my 4 year old and 15 month child and i am on a single income and unable to pay for repair expenses or a rental car and i do not have the option to miss work or school. can you inform me why my vin is not associated with the recall and i am having all the issues that are currently recalled and why would i not be reimbursed or provided with the necessary funds to cover the repair and or a rental vehicle?
The shifting is delayed. i will be stopped and when i go to start it delays and has almost caused many accidents when pulling into oncoming traffic because of the delay. it is very scary and dangerous.
2015 jeep cherokee latitude. consumer writes in regards to problems with the transmission. *ld the consumer stated the vehicle shakes and the transmission causes the vehicle to thrust forward while driving. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised it was operating as designed. *js
The vehicles transmission skips gears and jerks when driving in city streets and the freeway. when this occurs the vehicle will either accelerate when it is supposed to be slowing down or slow down when trying to accelerate. on a few occasions in city streets it has increased in speed while close to stopping at about 2 to 3 miles per hour and i almost hit another vehicle in front of me. i am glad i was quick enough and had more than the required safe distance from the vehicle in front of me. i also had other instances when i am accelerating from a stop, at a slow speed and it has slipped gears and accelerated very quickly. i can't feel the jerk and then the quick jump in speed. i am afraid that i will get in an accident if it keeps jumping gears when it is not supposed to.
I have been having issues with what i assume is the transmission. when stopped on an incline, when i go to accelerate the whole front of the vehicle bucks and makes lots of noise. it sounds like gears are grinding and it is fighting to get traction. also, when back up my driveway it feels like the rear wheels are slipping and fight to get traction as well. it started to happen when driving down the highway on a flat surface at like 30 mph as well. i have already taken it to a dealership where they performed a software update on the transmission. it has not fixed the problem, but has made it less frequent. i have already taken it back to the dealership again. the vehicle is still under the powertrain warranty. i have taken videos of the problem occuring.
When i drive my car cluster showed me "service shifter" and all lights are turn on in transmition prnd. i went service center they didn't know why that signal comes on. i'm very concern abiut that because that cause sudden unintended acceleration or stop engine during driving. it happened few more times before.
When stopped at a red light and i move my foot from the break to gas the car completely shuts off - the screens go black and the engine stalls. 2 weeks later the same thing happened when pulling in to a parking garage moving my foot from the break to the gas. the lights flashed and then the a message comes on the dash saying to shift the car in to park. i have to shift it in to park and turn the car off completely and then back turn it back on.
While parked, the lights on the shifter all turn red and a message appears on the dash screen saying, "service shifter". also, this happens while driving at normal speeds. at times, the transmission may slip while shifting gears. another issue is when coming to a stop or accelerating from a complete stop, the vehicle may jerk as if the transmission is slipping a gear or improperly timed.
Transmission shifts hard and often violently. will shift hard enough to cause a 2/3 empty bottle of drink to have liquid fly out of the bottle in the cupholders to hold the bottle stationary. shifting can occur at variable speeds between 20-50 possibly higher sometimes. we have took it back to the dealer twice where they say a 2015 trailhawk vehicle has the need of an "update" to control shifting, but refuse to listen to the vehicle is just shifting to hard. it has shifted so hard that it has thrown us for while driving, and it sounds like something is hitting under the car. this is not the need of an update, even if the dealer and "jeep" say this is a thing, and that we are not the first to have this issue, but they don't know when they will release this update to "fix" the transmission issues. the transmission shifts hard at variable temperatures too, but somehow the dealer can never feel the hard shift when they take it out. the hard shifts happen on both highways and neighborhood roads, multiple people have felt this shift not just one person.
Service shifter lights keep coming on
Service shifter prompt, all lights on gear shifter light up at the same time, sometimes will not let me shift, sometimes does not effect driving but will not go away until car is parked and turned off for a period of time
When accelerating in lower gears (1-3) it shifts hard and delayed. it can sometimes take 30 seconds after pushing on the accelerator to start moving and jolt forward.
Constant transmission issues that apparently are a known problem. car will not accelerate for several seconds. this has even happened in the middle of intersections.it has happened when the car is stopped entirely and when the car is at a low speed.
I bought this vehicle in 12/31/2017 as used from wally armour in salem ohio, it only had 11000 miles on it and smelled brand new still. the first incident i had noticed when i was driving the rpms/engine would rev really high and loud but the car was only going 55 and it seemed to be in the wrong gear but i was in the automatic drive position which should not cause this, i could understand if i was in standard stick shift and if i would down shift it would cause it to do that. then i started noticing a hesitation in the take off of the vehicle so when i was at a stop light and turning left it waiting for oncoming traffic it will hesitate and god for bid there is a car coming and it is hesitating and then all of a sudden it will lurch forward and i get thrown forward then backward in my seat as if i was hit from behind by another vehicle but there was no one behind my vehicle and it will jar my neck causing pain, i had neck surgery in 2016 with a cage put in and a fusion of 2 cadaver bones, i am in no condition for my vehicle to be lurching forward as if it is getting hit from behind. this is not a one time incident either it is on going daily. i am hoping for a resolution to this problem i have taken it in once and plan on taking it in again to have them look at possibly doing something to it to fix it.
I was on the freeway traveling at about 70 mph when the service transmission light came on. a few minutes after that i lost power to the transmission. i tried shifting it into neutral and than shifting back into drive with no change. i was stuck in the emergency lane on the #3 side of the freeway. a state trooper was dispatched. as i was in park (can't remember if i shut the engine off or not) he had me put it into drive to see if the transmission would engage long enough to get me off the freeway. it did engage. i immediately exited the freeway and called the dealership. they had me call jeep roadside assistance who dispatched a tow truck to deliver the vehicle to the dealership. in addition to the transmission not working the dash lights came on and will not turn back off.
Bought car new from an authorized jeep dealer. within a couple of months started getting recall notices. the first time, it took a week to re-program the transmission software because the dealer's service department was overwhelmed. no loaner car provided. was told by dealer that "this is how they work the "bugs" out. "abrupt" gear shifting and "sluggish" performance not resolved. at six (6) months transmission was completely replaced with new unit by a different dealer. took another week to complete, and as a "warranty claim" no loaner car provided. was told by dealer that most owners were getting only two (2) more months use out of this model. and, that "chrysler/jeep will be happy to get this one back for research and development". "abrupt" gear shifting and "sluggish" performance continued. at 2.9 years, just before warranty expiration, "check transmission" sensor replaced and reprogrammed. "abrupt" gear shifting and "sluggish" performance not resolved. "growling" and "sighing"noises began just after warranty expiration (9/17) and have become more pronounced. latest issue is that the transmission seems to "fall out of gear" causing sudden and unexpected stopping of the vehicle when slowing at red light or "stop" sign.
First the rearend went out at 75000 miles then the transmission went out 79000 miles on the hwy and i almost got rearended. this vehicle has been one issue after the other. there is also a wobble in the front end.
Shifting and jerking problems since we bought it new, dealer always said software upgrade and has done several. finally the jeep made loud bang going across intersection of road and car almost hitting us. jeep is back in garage and dealership says power take off unit needs to be replace. never own or buy jeep product.
Entire drive terrain locked up and had to have it towed. service transmission, service park brake, service shifter came on. exactly same problem happened again locking up with same exact problem.... service brake, service transmission, service shifter!
Takata recall. i have had my car for less than a year and within the first couple of months i noticed that it just randomly switched to neutral but i just thought maybe i bumped it into neutral until i started reading about it then learned it was a reoccurring issue. also when i'm decelerating it shifts gear rough and jerks, but that is the same with accelerating, its slow to shift gear and when it finally does it is rough. it had made me panic thinking i wasn't going to make it across traffic before the cars came then it kicked into gear. 2015 jeep cherokee
Transmission slamming hard in rd3 and 4th gear in motion, engine stalling at stop, refusing to start. all trim falling off inside and out. took to dealer they said nothing wrong. took back again 2 months later they said software update would fix it. fixed for about a week then all started again. they didn't even address the trim and liner issue. gps also completely off and it wont update either. i purchased this in 2016 dec. the entire thing is just falling apart plastic pieces are falling out from under the dash! cant get help and paid 2500 extra for warranty they wont fix a non fixable issue.
Vehicle loses power while driving. appears to be shifting to neutral and requires drifting to breakdown lane and restarting. when power is lost instrument panel reads service transmission, service abs, and service parking brake. not enough data for a pattern; error has occured during moments of aggressive gear changing (mountains) and using cruise control on the highway.
When i am stopped and i press the gas to accelerate, it takes a few seconds for my jeep to go. this does not happen all the time, but does happen often. it is frustrating!!
Service transmission came on after i purchased this car 3 days ago with 47k miles. as i slowed to a stop coming off the highway the car vibrated violently repeatedly and then cut off. it took 3 tries to finally turn the vehicle on and it continued to have the same issue. at one point i was having to throw the car in neutral to get it to stop jerking as i decelerated. that created a whole other problem because i then when i shifted back into drive i had no acceleration control. i had to roll off the road, throw it into park, kill the engine, and restart the car to get back control of the accelerator. very scary and unsafe!
Beginning immediately after a software update, the vehicle began to lurch forward at times while changing gears. this occurred most frequently in the lower gears. in november 2017, the vehicle began displaying service transmission, service parking brake, and 4wd temporarily unavailable messages when started. when shifting the car out of park into reverse or drive the car lurched, made a loud clunk, and would not accelerate. the vehicle can not be driven and must be turned off. sometimes upon starting the vehicle again the whole process would repeat. other times upon restart the vehicle is normal but the check engine light remains on for a day or so. when taken to the dealership they stated nothing was wrong with the car and that they can not check historical check engine light logs, as they are not retained. the issues have become more and more frequent as time passes. the vehicle has not yet failed completely while in motion.
Vehicle rpms rev up to 4000-5000 when going down hills on city streets going 15-20mph. vehicle randomly accelerates when not hitting gas and vehicle not on cruise control. vehicle jerks when changing gears. vehicle also studders when pulling out on city streets. purchased the vehicle on october 21, 2017 with 34,000 miles. took vehicle to certified jeep mechanic on november 6, 2017 with my complaint. they stated the transmission needed to be 'flashed'. i picked the vehicle back up at 4:30pm. after leaving it immediately started doing the same thing. when approaching a stop light on a city street as i began to slow down the vehicle shut completely off in the middle of the road. i took the vehicle straight back to the mechanic and told them what happened. they gave me a rental vehicle as they were closing and didn't have time to investigate the problem. i picked the vehicle back up on november 7, 2017. they stated there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. this vehicle is very unsafe as it randomly accelerates and cuts off randomly while driving. jeep needs to recall this model before someone gets killed. every time i drive this vehicle i am worried it's going to cause an accident. i've owned the vehicle for only three short weeks and i've already had it in the shop twice. i haven't even made my first payment.
While driving in a 50 mph zone on a major roadway in the town i reside in my vehicle decided it no longer want to go. even with my foot on the gas pedal i could see the needle for revs moving when i pushed the pedal, but the car wouldn't move. i took my foot off the gas and tried the pedal again. same result the car would rev but not go aside from a stuttering /light jerking, almost as if it didn't want to change gears. i have had rough shifts from the day we drove this off the lot. i was told time and time again that it was part of the break in period and there were no codes spitting out until this past summer where i got the service shifter problem a second time that was accompanied with service 4 wheel drive. i never have used this vehicle off road and maybe twice for virginia snow. i took it to the dealership and there was a recall, which they have fixed. but now we are back to the same symptoms only now the vehicle wants to stop forward motion while driving. it is at the dealership and they are saying it was a wiring issue. this vehicle is not safe. how many people need to be in this vehicle before an accident happens. luckily for me i was the only car on that section of the road but if i wasn't i would have been rear ended especially during rush hour.
I recently purchased a used 2015 jeep cherokee latitude. when i am at a complete stop and try to take off it stalls to shift into second gear and then it jerks. this is very dangerous when entering into an intersection.
The dealership attempted two software updates and told me they couldn't fix it when i went back the third time for the transmission not shifting properly. i also had a clunking noise in the front end that was fixed with the noise returning shortly after the warranty expiring. the vehicle continues to miss downshifts and does not shift properly when trying to accelerate.
Was driving car and came to a stop light. auto on/off activated at stop light. when i released brake car tried to turn on, but stalled. put car in park and started car. drove to dealership. they performed updates on car. got car back cruise control would not activate. took car back cruise control started working they said no problem found. was driving car and applied brakes with cruise control on. when i released brakes car accelerated forward towards car in front of me. had to slam on brakes. took car back to dealer, they replaced brake switch.got car back and had problems with transmission shifting. dealership says nothing wrong with car. got car back drove car for a month and a half or so then power steering went out while driving in parking lot. took to dealer, they said it had a bad steering rack. national back-order for 5 months. they were able to get the part within a month and a half. car seems to have many electrical issues that affect safety operations.
Transmission has failed 3 times in the last 2 months. once it finally enabled me to put it in drive it would not shift gears right. the highest it would go is 3rd out of 9. it jerks forward on all gear changes. the service transmission warning keeps flashing. prior to this the auto start /stop feature failed to function. the local jeep dealer has tried to repair this 3 times for us. we are the 2nd owner. the first owner had the same issues. the original owner had the transmission replaced. we were never told of the lemon "buy back" when we bought the car.
Transmission skips and lurches forward differently than expected. shifts very hard at times with a audible cluck under the car.
During normal operation the vehicle will shift very hard at initial engagement of the power train and sometimes after reaching 4th or 5th gear. the vehicle lunges forward very hard. the some times cause a major whiplash action on the passenger. sitting at a light the power train will nock hard when engaging the gears, also after reaching about 10mph it seems to miss a gear.
My jeep cherokee has the 9 speed transmission. i went to start the car it took several times to start when it did the car dropped hard into gear and all of the service trans lights came on and it was very difficult to get home as the car was having a very hard time getting into gear and stayed in 2 wheel drive mode. i had the car towed to the dealership and they told me my drive tran warranty covered the cost and i just needed a software update. four days later i was driving with my husband and 8 month old baby and while stopped at a stop sign the car died and again took several times to restart, all trans lights came on and could not get into gear, we had to drive slowly home with our hazards on and nearly got into an accident when trying to merge into traffic when it kept slipping out of gear.
Driving down the freeway and i suddenly have no power. i could push the throttle pedal to the floor with no response. i had to make it across multiple lanes of traffic going 75mph and pull to the shoulder. i tried restarting and it shuttered and died, twice. let it sit for a min and then it restarted. it happened 2 days later. this time i was pulling away from a stop sign and i had no throttle response. i slammed the gas pedal to the floor and it shuttered and got power again.
My jeep's transmission in gears 1 and 2 will sporadically have issues with hesitations, stalling, jerking the car forward, and loud clunk sounds during shifting. i will be at a stop sign stopped, push the gas to go and it will hesitate for 1 second, then jolt forward when it decides to move. one instance i was driving on a city street and wanted to go faster, i pressed on the gas and it all of sudden seemed to have stalled out. gas was not doing anything for a good 5 seconds. i was in the process of trying to get out of traffic as my speed was declining and then it kicked in and went. as of recent, it has started to make a loud clunk sound and slight jerk when moving from low gears while in motion. again this is all sporadic. it does not happen all the time. i brought it into two different dealerships about the issue. they flashed the electronic component both times. flashing seemed to help for a few weeks, then it slowly went back to the sporadic behavior. note: this has been over 3 years, not once specific instance.
Randomly the vehicle feels as if someone is hitting the car from the front end when put into reverse due to a very hard shift into reverse. randomly the electrical system will shut off when parked and turning the car on. the auto on/off will randomly shut off while driving and sometimes the vehicle will not start for some unknown reason. i hesitated reporting this thinking that it was probably just bad luck but because of a conversation with a co-worker who is having the exact same problems i thought that it may be a symptom of a larger problem and something i should report. if this were to happen when driving at higher speeds it could be a disaster.
