We have classified the 679 complaints from 2015 Jeep Cherokee about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
The vehicle lunges forward when coming to a stop on a downhill situation. it becomes difficult not to hit stopped vehicles at the bottom of a hill at red lights. the cruise control does not always disengage when i hit the brakes, i have had to take evasive action several times. contacted dealer, mad appointment for a scan.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. while driving 45 mph, the vehicle lost power, decelerated, and the contact lost control of the vehicle. the vehicle decelerated and accelerated multiple times. after a while, the transmission remained stuck in drive and the check engine and traction control warning indicators illuminated. also, "service transmission", "service abs", and "service shifter" were displayed. the contact drove the vehicle to gulf coast chrysler jeep (3781 s mckenzie st, foley, al 36535, (251) 943-5075) where a diagnostic appointment was scheduled. the vehicle was in the process of being diagnosed and repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 24,000. the vin was unknown.
My car has been "jumpy". as i am idling at a stoplight or street sign, the car will lunge forward to where it almost feels like i am being hit from behind. the check engine light has not been on so i did not think much of it. i was driving yesterday, all of a sudden 'service transmission' flashed on my screen as i was merging onto a highway. i was going about 50 mph and it would not accelerate as i was pressing the gas pedal. i immediately exited. as i was exiting, i was slowing down and there was a car in front of me but my car still lunged forward. i pulled over. i put the car in park and turned the car off. waited a few minutes and turned the car on, as i shifted into drive, the car jumped forward as i was still holding the breaks.seriously lucky to not have hit the car in front of me.. i knew something was wrong, i drove home and parked it and immediately took it to be serviced this morning at a dealership. they called and said that their diagnostic computer was unable to communicate with the transmission to detect the problem but the tech asserted that it is a transmission issue and that they will be having to run more diagnostic and likely replace the transmission.
Today while driving on the highway "service transmission" showed up on screen. we stopped, turned vehicle off. it cleared when we restarted but reappeared again. then it would hardly accelerate. only 37,000 miles.
Car went into ' limp' mode. traction control went off, message, 4-wheel drive is not available. my car lost power and i haft to use manual mode to shift. dealer stated , that even though i gave them the trouble codes, they could not duplicate problem. service shifter, light came on but when i restart it goes away
On 7/19/19 - once car placed into gear, it barely moved 5 mph. loud noise during shift of gear. service transmission light came on. placed car in park and had towed to dealer. dealer said.. the batter was low. however, the battery was last replaced 7/13/18 (1 year ago). i haven't picked the car up yet as i'm concerned this isn't the real issue.
While driving at any speed a 'service shifter' message appears in the message center and all the indicator lights for drive park reverse neutral light up. i have taken this problem to the dealer for repair and it was covered under my warranty but shortly after the repair the problem resurfaced again, you can turn off the car and when you re-started the error message goes away. but then it reappears at random with no rhyme or reason.
I was just driving on the freeway when all of the sudden, my check engine light turns on, and a message pops up on my dash that says, "service transmition." then i couldn't accelerate at all, even if i pushed down all the way on the gas. my car is literally at 60,600 miles right now, so of course that jeeps warranty for power train would stop right at the 60,000 mile mark. this is also the 4th issue i have had with this jeep in 2 years. mostly been electrical problems. also noticed that the person that reported an issue right before me is having the same problems, and we are both located in colorado. something seems really sketchy on jeeps end and i shouldn't keep having to pay for jeeps issues. jeep needs to be accountable for this issue as it will lead to a lawsuit.
While driving the vehicle, the engine will default to limp mode due to the transmission. this usually happens when the transmission temperature reaches 181 degrees. while driving, i observed the transmission temperature each time the check engine light illuminated with the words "service transmission", the engine reduces speed and will not accelerate. this forces me to pull over and let the transmission cool down. once cooled down, the jeep will operate normally until the transmission temperature reaches 181 degrees again. the cycle repeats when the vehicle is driven for longer periods of time. (1 to 2 hours) it happens when driving on the highway more often than in town.
In drive, when i stop as it is stopped with brake depressed as it idles it shifts (i'm assuming down shifting) very hard. when it does that the message "service transmission" is shown on the control display and then turns the service engine light on. it stays on for an undetermined amount of time even when i shut the jeep off and turn it back on. but randomly then after i turn the jeep off, when i turn it back on the service engine light is off. that then since the service engine light does go off, can not get a diagnostic down. it has happened several times in the near past and then it did again today, july 12, 2019.
When i start the vehicle it revs high and when i take off it jumps/hesitates. as i am driving, the warning bell will "ding" a warning and the engine just cuts off. message on dash tells me i am unable to shift and must put car in park to shift. i am unable to accelerate or turn my steering wheel and at a complete stop. also as i make a turn at a stop light, the warning "ding" will happen and no message is displayed on dash. these problems have occurred while the car is "in motion"! not stopped!
When slowing to almost a stop but not fully stopping, vehicle does not select a gear immediately when the accelerator is pressed. the vehicle will not engage a gear for several seconds whic results in being unable to accelerate all. when the vehicle does engage a gear, there is a sudden jolt if the accelerator is still pressed. it is a safety concern because when the gear is not engaged you cannot accelerate the car at all until it finally engages.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle overheated and stalled in heavy traffic. bettenhausen chrysler dodge jeep ram (8355 w 159th st, tinley park, il 60477, (708) 532-2665) stated that a loaner vehicle was not an option. south oak jeep dodge chrysler ram (4550 lincoln hwy, matteson, il 60443, (708) 747-7950) indicated that the repair was covered by a power train warranty to service the engine. the manufacturer later stated that the failure was due to user error. the dealer indicated that the engine assembly needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified and did not state if the power train warranty would cover the repair. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 94,000.
My 2015 jeep cherokee trailhawk when starting the vehicle or driving the red lights on the shifter will all turn on and the instrument cluster with display a service shifter screen. sometimes when the vehicle is parked i can shut off the car and turn the car back on and reset other times will it reset.
Service shifter light continues to come on for the transmission. can only be reset by turning the vehicle off and then back on. when this happens, four wheel drive does not work, the vehicle shifts improperly and lunges at lower speeds and the gauge cluster on the dash will only show 'service shifter' tendering it useless. the light comes on while driving or stopped and at various driving conditions. this has been a problem for months and is not covered under the extended power train warranty.
When temperatures reach below freezing or above 80 degrees, my car will send an error message when i place the car in reverse. the error message reads, 'service shifter'. when the car is then placed in park and turned off and back on, the error message will leave the screen. also, three months ago, my car would stall while driving. after looking into the issue i found that the oil had been completely drained after an oil change was issued in the previous month. there were no signs of leaks. after filling the car back up with oil the issue did not occur again. this may be related to the first issue.
Once the vehicle is on the road, when calling for additional power, the transmission does not respond. transmission stays in current gear and will not allow vehicle to accelerate. service transmission light and engine light both come on each time this happens. it seems every time this condition occurs, it's approximately 20 minutes into the drive whether it be on the highway or city driving.
Service shifter service shifter keeps popping up as i'm driving. streets and highway.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. while the vehicle was at a stop sign with the brake pedal depressed, it accelerated without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to austin chrysler jeep dodge ram (2905 w oakland ave, austin, mn 55912, (507) 433-8877) for a second diagnosis, but no failure was found. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided case number: 58760311. the failure mileage was 62,457.
Transmission
My jeep shifter service light has come on at approx 46650 miles. i took it to my local mechanic (active military overseas) and he said i'm one of several jeeps he has seen this week who have come in with the same concern. right now my car still operates normal with the exception. of the service shifter message not going away but it's odd that so many vehicles in this area would have a similar problem at the same time.
Was parked at the store got in and started it. it hiccuped on starting. shifted to reverse and a huge clunk happened. i revered and shifted to drive again a huge clunk. once driving it had no power and service transmission and parking brake came on.
The 9-speed automatic transmission has been experiencing problems for almost a year. the transmission lurches, hesitates on acceleration, shifts into neutral, and makes clucking sounds when shifted into drive. my dealer (sheridan motors) tried to repair the problem with a software update in january, 2019 (see attached invoice), but the problem persists. recently, while driving on i-25 north of denver, co, the transmission hesitated for several seconds on acceleration and dropped speed from 75 mph to 61 mph. this almost caused us to be rear-ended by following traffic. i no longer consider it safe to drive my 2015 jeep cherokee. i have read many stories of jeep owners having the same continuous issues with these 9-speed automatic transmissions, and i think all vehicles with these transmissions need to be immediately recalled.
I was making a right hand turn off of clove rd. all of a sudden there was a thunk and i couldn't accelerate beyond 2mph, check transmission and check engine light came on. put it in park and it kept rolling. a helper had the computer and it read power control module.
The 2015 jeep cherokee latitude 44..shut down in moving traffic .dash stated to put car in park to shift gear.vehicle was already in gear.vehicle started back up and i made it to a gas station where it shut down at the pump.vehicle had to be towed to the dealer. this is the third time since i purchased the vehicle it had to be towed for shutting down in motion. i bought the car brand new in may of 2015. has 51k miles on it now. also it shifts iraticly. the cruise control accelerates on it's own. something must be did one or people will get hurt .
The transmission in the vehicle has been an issue since i bought the vehicle new. it hesitates and eventually jerks forward when attempting to climb a hill, and the transmission doesn't gear down properly when going downhill. i've returned it to the dealer for software updates in the past but haven't seen a difference. now i have an alert for "service shifter" appearing, with the shifter lights all illuminated. i've called the dealer multiple times, and finally was able to get a service appointment, but the appointment is a month away because they're so backed up. i asked the service rep whether this could be a hazard and was told the vehicle may not go into gear so the vehicle could leave me stranded. a month for a service appointment, really?? this is a serious hazard and now i'm trying to figure out what do to about an upcoming vacation planned, which happens before the service appointment. i'm also worried about the appointment itself, and what will happen to the car afterwards, since i've read online comments about worsening conditions after cars have been serviced. the "service shifter" message had been appearing periodically but now (starting 5/12/19) it's coming on during almost every drive.
When i am driving on the street i always feel a jerking when i accelerate after braking. while driving on the highway or expressway when i accelerate i notice a jerk and when i decelerate my car shakes and vibrates.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. while driving approximately 17 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. also, "service transmission" populated on the message center. the vehicle was pushed onto the side of the road. the contact stated that the failure occurred at least eight times and worsened over time. the vehicle was taken to fullerton chrysler/jeep (1050 us-22, somerville, nj 08876) at least eight times, but they were not able to determine the cause of the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired, but the vehicle was scheduled for diagnostic testing on may 4, 2019. the approximate failure mileage was 65,000. the vin was unavailable.
Vehicle has had hard shifting and lurching going downhill since it was new. transmission harness replaced under recall-no fix. transmission replaced under warranty and software updates installed-better. 1-2 years later transmission slams into next gear (4-5) upon acceleration so hard you nearly get whiplash. at dealership again as i write this. this is a safety concern that needs to be resolved.
I get a " service shifter" pop upon the dash and the gear changers turns red. contacted two dealerships and both stated that they did not know what that means. the service shifter does not pop up all the times. it is not consistent sometimes it pops up but not all the time.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. when the contact parked the vehicle, it failed to restart. when the contact made another attempt, the vehicle restarted. the failure occurred several times. the contact also stated that when the vehicle was in any gear, it jerked and made a loud noise. also, the transmission indicator blinked on and off. on another occasion, when the vehicle was started, the rpms increased very high without the accelerator pedal being pressed. jim browne chrysler jeep dodge ram of dade city (12020 us-301, dade city, fl 33525, (352) 353-0704) advised that the vehicle be brought in for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer agreed with the dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 50,000.
It says service shifter. driving. all shifter lights illuminate red.
Vehicle shifts jerky. usually occurs around 30 mph sometimes on an incline, sometimes on flat ground. no warning lights have ever lit up and the trans temp is normal. it has been happening for about a month off and on. no consistency to the issue.
I have a jeep cherokee sport 2015, 14k miles; on 3 different occasions the transmission has disengage while driving on highway losing all acceleration and response. check engine light 'on' and "service transmission" alert displayed. after turning the car off and restarting, check engine light stayed on but no "service transmission" alert. i was able to drive the car for 10 minutes before the same events happened again. all events occurred while highway driving and after a oil change (second). i had driven (under 40 mph) the car in town for 2 weeks after oil change with no issues. no previous issues before oil change. this is very dangerous issue; many complaints can be found on line of this very issue, suggesting a software or sensor issue. will someone have to pay the ultimate price with their life before a total recall is issued? complaint filed with washington state ag office and us congressional representatives
Tranmission lurches shifts abnormal stops engine and check engine light comes on. this happens in the middle of a busy intersection very unsafe.
Jeep cherokee 2015 39k miles. trouble starting. sometimes it turns on, other times it doesn't. also have a light on 'svc 4wd'
The jeep turned off while my wife was driving multiple times. the engine would shut off, she would have to turn the jeep off and shift to park. she would then have to start the jeep and put it into gear to drive. all these steps had to be done while in traffic. one time she was turning left at a busy intersection. we took it to the dealer to fix, the mechanic was able to replicate the issue. the said the oil needed to be changed (charged us over $100). they changed the oil and gave us the jeep back. two months later the jeep did the same thing. this time in our driveway (not as scary). i took it back to the dealer the next day. they had the jeep 1 week and could not replicate the issue again. they told me to come get the jeep. i was not happy with this answer (my wife and two boys drive this jeep). i emailed the ceo of chrysler fca us llc my concerns. i was called back by regina knox. she had the dealer keep the auto for another week. they still did not find any issues. i was told to get the car and that they would not do anything for me. i told her i felt the jeep was unsafe. i told her i didn't want to drive it. she said "i cannot buy it from you", she did offer me employee pricing if i wanted another new auto from chrysler. the error message reads "shift to p then desired gear"
When slowing down between 25-35mph, the transmission 'clunks' violently and the entire car shakes and it is very loud. i have had it to the dealer twice; first time they said it needed a software update which they supposedly did, but nothing changed. i had it in again and they said there was nothing wrong with the transmission, that it is 'normal', and to just drive it so the computer can 'learn my driving habits'. what??? this is my fourth jeep and i've never had problems like this. i bought it used and have only had it a month and feel i'm stuck with a lemon.
While driving on back roads and highway i would notice that around 30-40 mph the car would shift extremely rough and while trying to slow down the car would suddenly jerk forward and seem like it was trying to keep going forward making me hit the breaks harder. will be contacting dealership.
While driving city streets around 30-40mph the car shifts extremely rough causing a jerking motion. while trying to accelerate from stopped position the car has trouble accelerating and will jerk forward once it seems to shift gears. i don't have any lights showing on dash or error codes so i cannot take to a dealership.
Vehicle cuts off in the middle of driving on city streets and highway, flashes multiple indicators on dashboard. truck has cut off while waiting to turn while in middle of a four-lane highway. check engine light goes off and on. hesitation and acceleration issues. when pressing on accelerator truck doesn't go as if stuck in gear then finally lurches forward unexpectedly. very jerky during gear changes similar to driving a stick shift. taken to dealership where purchased and was told to buy new battery but the same problems continue to happen. diagnostics at dealership gave no indication as to how these safety issues can be resolved.
Driving along with vehicle in motion, the engine stalls out and continues to roll, but does not operate. car must come to a complete stop, rest and then try to restart - very dangerous on the highway. a message comes on stating "vehicle must be in gear to shift" or something close to that - but there has been no shifting on my part at all. this stalling has put me in very dangerous conditions because cars coming from behind and around me have no warning of the stalled out engine either. it takes about 3 or 4 minutes to restart the engine. dealership says this is an oil consumption issue and its something to do with the pistons. another jeep service manager said the engine needs to be replaced. its still under warranty. i fear that we're going to get hit (my daughter and i) and meanwhile, we do not have other transportation and i'm going to be paying on this for 4 more years. there is a lot of information on other people having the same complaints on the internet. for now, the dealership is doing an oil consumption test which is related to the engine problems known on other vehicles. with this many people having the same problem, this should be a recalled engine.
The engine shut down while i was driving. i had just went around a corner and was heading up a small hill when i heard a beep and looked at the message which said "to shift ... must be in park". i had no warning prior to this and was not able to pull to the side of the road. i was stalled in the road and was not able to restart the vehicle. i tried to restart my vehicle several times after ensuring it was in park, with no luck. i called for a tow, and while waiting, i tried to start the vehicle again and it finally started, so i cancelled the tow. when the engine shut down, i still had lights and radio and when trying to restart the vehicle the electronic portion worked (normal dash lights when starting), but the engine did not turn over. i was fortunate i was on a country road with not much traffic when this happened. i would hate to think what could have happened if i was on the highway or interstate. i have been a previous jeep owner and have never experienced this with any other jeep i owned. i will be taking my jeep in to see if the dealership can find an issue. i currently have 80,500 miles on it. i have a long commute to work and i have now lost confidence in this vehicle.
We purchased this vehicle used in 2017. within a few months we noticed that when taking off, the car often stalled or lurched forward. this often seemed to happen in the morning or after sitting overnight, so we assumed it might just be that the engine needed to 'warm up'. now we are having an issue with the service shifter error message coming on with all of the lights on the shifter lighting up. the first time this happened, we turned the car off and restarted. this week when this happened, we turned the car off and it would not restart. it was completely dead. we could not even turn on our hazard lights. we had the car towed to our mechanic. after extensive testing, he replaced the battery, which he said had completely died and as not able to communicate with the car in any way. he said the way in which it happened was very unusual and to watch to see if any other error messages occurred. two days after picking up our car, the same service shifter message has come up while we were driving with all lights lighting up on the shifter. we did not stop this time and were able to drive home, and we will call our mechanic on monday. while researching what this light could mean, i have come across countless other complaints about the same issue. this seems to be a major flaw in this vehicle, so i want to add our voice in asking for a recall that would allow this to be corrected so that we can drive our jeep with confidence rather than fear. *dt
Service shifter
Transmission slow take off, jerks at random, and reverse takes a few seconds to move when i press the gas pedal which almost caused an accident. happens all the time! dealer said there's nothing wrong with the car. what the heck...sounds more like a cover up.
After driving a very short distance, i stopped at a stop sign and the engine seemed to turn off while the car was in drive. the display indicated to shift the car into park, and then engage a gear. i shifted into park, and then into drive but the card did not start or move. i tried that sequence several times after turning on the hazard flashers to no avail. finally i turned off and removed the key, waited a minuted, then inserted the key and restarted the engine. i shifted into drive and the car moved. very scary. the exact same thing happened to my wife a day later, at exactly the same location, a stop sign 1/4 mile from our home. she freaked out, and then called me. i gave her the procedure i used and she was able to return home. in both cases this occurred on a 4 lane divided roadway. this is an extremely dangerous situation with the power train which the dealer/manufacturer must address before someone is killed. *dt*jb
Numerous transmission issues ranging from shifting errors to rough shifting, and recently, automatic engine shutoff no longer works. despite chrysler's transmission recalls, the issues continue. the latest issue, on/off switch, has no solution according to the dealer. and they have submitted a star report for assistance. that was after 5 days of holding on to the car.
My 2015 jeep cherokee latitude has stalled while accelaterating at least 8 or 9 times now, and i've only had the vehicle for 7 months. it started when i first purchased the vehicle and the rpms would drop down sunddenly when i first started the vehicle. i took it back to the dealership and they said nothing was wrong with it. now, when i am stopped at a stoplight, or am attempting to get onto the freeway, my vehicle will stall, the engine turns off, the battery light indicator comes on and i am instructed to put the vehicle back into park and restart the car. it takes a couple of tries for the vehicle to start again. i feel very unsagfe driving this vehicle as i am afraid it will turn off again and i won't be able to avoid traffic.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. while driving approximately 60 mph, the service shifter indicator and all the indicators on the shifter illuminated and remained lit. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to gateway chrysler jeep (409-233-7839, 4103 interstate 10 e orange, tx 77630) where it was diagnosed that the shifter and the wiring harness needed to be replaced. the technician stated that the shifter was on backorder. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 21,000.
