Problems with 2015 Jeep Cherokee STEERING

On average, the 2015 Jeep Cherokee starts to “feel” problems with the STEERING and its various aspects after 24 973 miles.

Recently reported STEERING problems on 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Since 2015 when the jeep was purchased i have had several times when the rpms would go up to 3 or 4 and i was not accelerating the gas when it happened. it acted like transmission problems . the jeep dealer could not fine anything wrong and would update the computer, it would last for several months and then the same thing would happen. on saturday february 8th 2020 i parked the car in a parking lot and returned 3 hours later to a car that would not start , lights would work and the battery appeared dead. i got a hotshot to try to start the car. it did start but there was no power steering , no power brakes, the engine was running rough and the lights were clicking off and on. the code stated service transmission restart in park with vehicle at zero speed. and would change to service park brake. when i turned off the car it would turn on again and it was towed to the jeep dealer and they will look at it on monday feb, 10th. i will know more at that time.

While driving the car will shut off completely, locking the steering wheel and rendering the brakes and the gas ineffective... the first time i was driving 65mph on the freeway and it shut off. luckily there was no one on the road, i was able to coast to a stop, shift to park, and restart the engine... it proceeded to happen multiple times, no matter how fast i was driving.

I have had my car in the shop twice for gear shift issue as well as a blower motor 3 times. if i replace this blower motor it will be the 3rd in 2 years. the gear shifting issue was supposedly just an electrical issue according to the dealership and the upon returning with the same issue i was told an entire gear shift replacement was necessary on my 2015 jeep cherokee. a supposed recall existed but per jeep customer service is was only for cars build in 2014 in the month of october. however in a follow up call today 12/13/2019 jeep was unable to find any recall related to the gear shift or any electrical components that would affect the gear shift or transmission. i would like to request a tracking of calls, emails, reporting of all related issues to jeeps built in 2014 labeled as 2015 that potentially have these issues and a response to how many vehicles need to be included to warrant a recall. the vehicle issues happen both in park, drive, neutral and in reverse.

I was parked and tried to start my car, it would not crank up. turned it off and it hesitated to start again. then i tried to shift it into reverse, it was blinking and it jerked like when someone hits you from behind really hard. as i tried to reverse the steering locked and it hardly wanted to brake. the service brake light and engine light came on. it has happened twice now and each time it gets worse. it's not a safe vehicle to drive.

In the last 2 weeks, whenever i try to turn the wheels right or left it makes a loud creaking noise. i had it looked at and had the top top strut bushing lubricated thinking that was the issue only to have it continue making the same noise.

While flat towing our jeep latitude behind our motor home at 45mph the jeep began to wobble violently. we bought the jeep brand new in 2015. we were never notified we needed to install a special wire harness. the jeep dealer installed our towing package so they new it was going to be towed. we have an appointment this tuesday to try and remedy this death wobble at our own expense. we are lucky no one was hurt. from doing research on social media i was directed to bulletin kl-08-022-16. we never received any notification on this bulletin. now our warranty has run out.

The car started shaking when towing. we had to stop immediately. it shook so bad it shook the motor home. we were on a highway and turning to the right.

While towing my jeep cherokee behind my rv, i have encountered something known as the 'death wobble'. this can be very serious danger as the steering wheel of my rv was shaking so violently, it was uncontrollable. thinking it was my rv, i spent $1200 to have my rv examined only to find out later that it was my towed vehicle, a 2015 jeep cherokee causing the massive vibration. this can be a very serious danger. thinking it was my rv, i spent $1200 to have my rv examined only to find out later that it was my 2015 jeep cherokee causing the severe vibration. do i have any recourse? what has been done to require jeep to mitigate this known problem? what kind of requirement did jeep have to notify me of this issue? my second problem as to do with the transmission. again, this problem affects all jeep cherokees with the 9-speed transmission and is known to jeep but they have failed to do anything about it. i have taken my vehicle in three different occasions and each time they have claimed it required a computer update. these updates never clear the problem. when slowing down to almost a stop, and pressing the accelerator, the vehicle has difficulty finding a gear then lurches forward. as you could imagine, this can lead to fatal accidents. what recourse do i have against jeep?

An alert message reads "service shifter" across dash message center while driving. . the gear shift will light up every gear and neither clear off unless i pull over and kill the engine. the message does not store in the "error message" reporting system and i have been told from the dealership i purchased from as well as another that there is no recall and nothing can be done since the message isn't stored. i'm reading reports of these make/models locking up the steering and causing crashes.

Per tsb 08-029-16 flat towing this vehicle jeep installed a wiring kit to stop a severe wobble while towing. kit was installed july 25 2016. while towing the jeep during a trip on april 28, 2018 on i255 e bypass around saint louis at approx. 4:40 pm at approx. 60 mph i had the severe death wobble occur. heavy traffic and while decelerating and trying to stop (which is the only way to stop the wobble) i was nearly rear ended by a semi truck. on april 29, 2018 at approximately 2:30 pm while exiting i39 onto i39/90 in wisconsin the wobble occurred again at approx. 50 mph. again, the wiring fix was installed and i had it correctly turned on. this a dangerous vehicle and i refuse to tow it 1 foot until jeep steps up to the place and does the right thing. in both instances, traffic was heavy and braking quickly to stop the wobble could have caused serious injury.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. while the vehicle was being towed at 50 mph by an rv, the vehicle started to shake violently and made the rv difficult to control. the vehicle fractured the tow hitch and struck the rear of the rv. the vehicle was taken to fedderly chrysler dodge jeep, inc (2500 e main st, reedsburg, wi 53959), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified and case number: 33489958 was provided. the failure mileage was 34,500.

This 2015 jeep cherokee has the 2-speed transfer unit, and was sold as flat towable, and manual so states that fact. the manufacturer made the power steering system electric rather than mechanical. in 2017 after many complaints about the cherokee not tracking while being towed behind the motorhome and causing a severe left to right wobble behind the motorhome, jeep issued a revision to the owner's manual (s-13). it states that a flat-tow wiring kit should be installed, but jeep wants the part and labor to install this kit to be paid by the jeep owner, not by the manufacturer. this is a safety issue and should be addressed under a recall. on a straight road this wobble happened twice to me and almost caused me to loose control of my motorhome, not to mention damage to my jeep.

While flat-towing our jeep cherokee behind our motorhome down a highway at 60mph, we went over a minor bump in the road, and the jeep started to violently wobble/shake (visible in rear camera of the rv) which was shaking/torquing the entire rv back and forth uncontrollably. we had to slow & come to a complete stop in the middle of the highway in order for the wobbling to stop. we immediately pulled over to shoulder of highway, to find the corner of the bumper ripped off, and the tow anchor bent sideways (from the whipping action of the jeep). we unhooked the jeep (no longer towable) and drove off the highway and directly to a jeep dealer. the jeep dealer assessed the damage from the wobble (torn front bumper, bent tow connector, and cracked front sub frame). we researched online and found this wobble to be a known issue to jeep; certain model years (2014-2015 jeep cherokees) have this issue when being flat-towed; apparently sometimes when going over a bump, the the flat-towed vehicle doesn't consistently track in line with the motorhome, due to lack of power to the jeep's electronic power steering system. fca released a statement saying they will 'provide a complimentary jumper wire harness and switch to ensure the vehicle's eps system has power to function while it is being flat-towed. these components have been engineered and validated by fca us llc and will be made available to all customers through mopar, as early as january 29. in addition, all cherokee owners will be contacted directly by fca us and provided with updated instructions for flat-towing. these instructions supersede all previous instructions. also, the vehicle's online owners manual will be updated.' we never received that notification & therefore didn't have this proper part to prevent this wobble. now jeep is refusing to help pay for the damage incurred to our vehicle because of this issue.

Was driving car and came to a stop light. auto on/off activated at stop light. when i released brake car tried to turn on, but stalled. put car in park and started car. drove to dealership. they performed updates on car. got car back cruise control would not activate. took car back cruise control started working they said no problem found. was driving car and applied brakes with cruise control on. when i released brakes car accelerated forward towards car in front of me. had to slam on brakes. took car back to dealer, they replaced brake switch.got car back and had problems with transmission shifting. dealership says nothing wrong with car. got car back drove car for a month and a half or so then power steering went out while driving in parking lot. took to dealer, they said it had a bad steering rack. national back-order for 5 months. they were able to get the part within a month and a half. car seems to have many electrical issues that affect safety operations.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the front end shook violently, the steering wheel went back and forth without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer straub chrysler dodge jeep ram located at 1502 wheeling ave, glen dale, wv 26038; (888) 449-5231 where the dealer stated that the contact would be responsible for the repairs. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted at 877-426-5337 and was made aware of the failure. the manufacturer stated that there was no recall under the vin and that the contact would have to pay for the charges and a case number was not provided. the failure mileage was 21,000.

We were sold this vehicle to flat tow behind a motor coach. on the highway the car starts to shake dangerously out of control. a death wobble. we had to come to a complete stop to get the vehicle under control. we thought we had a tire blow out. it is unsafe to tow as was dictated in my manual. this vehicle was sold under false pretense and needs to be recalled. i should not have to pay another $600 to tow this vehicle safely when it was sold to me as a safe vehicle to tow

Takata recall - bad wheel bearing , loss of power, engine light. in motion!!!

The vehicle shut off when driving. after calling a jeep dealer and asking if they where having any trouble like this. i also informed the dealer that the cherokee had 36500 miles 500 over covered warranty. i was informed the work would not be covered so i took it to a local garage. was told it needs a thermostat. had to call a dealer after several attempts to locate the part. all the dealer said the part is on national back order. if the part is that popular to replace that you cant keep it in stock than there most be an issue. this vehicle is not safe if this part is causing the motor to shut off when driving down the road at highway speed. their seems to be a lot of trouble with this vehicle. i hope chrysler will not just let the issue go hoping that people just deal with it there self. been to the garage 3 times and still have 5 years to pay for it. it is enough of a problem that i thought i would take this step.called chrysler customer service first time was disconnected before i could type my massage. second time was told they could put a rush on my part gee thanks.how about just make a vehicle that will not get someone killed by shutting of on the highway. thank you [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Vehicle develops what is know as the death wobble when being tow 4 wheels down. this death wobble develops at 55 to 65 mph and shakes the motorhome and the car until you come to a complete stop. see youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwguajaeeci&sns=em

2015 jeep trail hawk approximately 1st 10,000 miles electronics multiple alarms no 4 wheel drive, parking brake error, check transmission light on while driving. loss of some steering, heavy... car is shifting chaotically. check engine no visible issues. took to dealer ship the next day they re-flashed software kept it for the night no other issues until 12/11/2016 when a duplicate of the first event occurred. took to dealership same thing as reported before, plus oil leak (no oil in my garage upper oil leak) and the dealership completed a transmission re-call repair to fix transmission errors on the 9 speed. all repairs under warranty to date only cost to me is rental cars and lost time at work. 12/19 duplicate again of two events only difference is the car was having a hard time starting on two occasions today but drove fine. on one occasion the motor starter would not stop engaging the engine and it would not start. my foot was not on the brake, and i was not pressing the start button, it was just stuck in start. i pumped the breaks and hit the engine button and it stopped maybe 20 seconds later. the car always returns to normal after it sits for a few hours all the alarms go away and the check engine light is on but it tests drives fine. last recall noted the same issue and my recall repair on 12/12 was to fix the issue, at this point feel i am pretty lucky to be on side street a few miles from home when errors occur not sure what would happen on the highway. just checked the engine and fluids all ok will take to dealership tomorrow. took pictures of the top of the engine and below the car no leaks no fluid issues seems to be a software or programming issue. the dealership has been great don't think they have much control over the problem. *tr

While driving less than 10 mph, emergency brake came on thus making the car unable to steer or move.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. the vehicle was being towed by a 2000 holiday rambler endeavor recreational vehicle. while the rv was driving 55-60 mph, the jeep shimmied violently without warning. the jeep was taken to folsom lake chrysler dodge jeep ram (12545 folsom blvd, folsom, ca 95630 (888) 480-1238) where the diagnosis was unknown. while the cherokee was at the dealer, the contact notified the manufacturer. the manufacturer sent a new wiring harness to the dealer and the jeep was repaired. a year later, while the jeep was being towed by the holiday rambler, the failure recurred. the manufacturer had the cherokee towed to autoworld dodge chrysler jeep ram (1370 auto center dr, petaluma, ca 94952 (707) 762-2712), but the dealer refused to diagnose or repair the vehicle without knowing the repair history. the vehicle was taken back to folsom lake chrysler dodge jeep ram, but the failure could not be duplicated. the contact stated that the jeep cherokee only violently shimmied while being towed. the failure mileage was approximately 14,000. updated 10/17/17*lj the consumer stated the failure occurred after having the harness was replaced. *js

Jeep cherokee recall s13 see letter attached. vehicle was represented to be capable for flat tow at purchase. recall a year+ later required modifications in order safely to do so. fca is requiring owners to pay for modifications.

While jeep is being flat towed behind motorhome on down slope & curve of interstate front wheels start severe wobble forcing rig to be stopped before any forward motion can be resumed. dangerous safety issue as other vehicles behind or beside my approximately 60ft long combo have to brake suddenly to avoid contact. similar instances reported nhtsa #10881635, 10872379, 10760794. would molar flat towing wiring kit correct this problem? what is the part # for the wiring kit?

Cpsc: chrysler: consumer stated jeep cherokees based on years 2014-2016 can develop a wobble in the front end when being towed behind a motor home. the wobble is severe enough to cause the consumer to loose control. *ss the consumer stated the steering, was poorly designed. *jb

Fca issued customer satisfaction notification s13 - flat tow addendum card in april 2016. this addendum card does not resolve the problem of flat towing. i purchased the 2015 jeep cherokee specifically because fca indicated the vehicle is towable 4-wheels down. the addendum refers to a "mopar flat tow wiring kit" which was not installed as part of this notification. as a result, when the car is towed (thus, in-motion behind the towing vehicle) 4-wheels down the front of the car steering "wobbles" (sometimes severely) because the wiring kit is required now. it was not part of the car that i purchased and i believe fca should install the wiring kit at no cost to the consumer as this is a hazard to both the owner and any other person or vehicle that may be in the vicinity when said vehicle is being towed. note: website says multiple files are uploadable. website does not work correctly and only allows 1 file to be uploaded! i have additional files!

The stitching on the leather wrapped steering wheel is very abrasive and is raised just enough to feel sharp and annoying. when turning the wheel inside using the spokes, the stitching is very abrasive and has chafed skin off my thumb. in other areas of the steering wheel, it's just not totally comfortable to grip because of the sharp feeling of the stitching. this condition obviously exists all the time, but is most noticeable and annoying when turning the wheel in wide arcs as in parallel parking.

When i purchased my 2015 jeep cherokee one of the main reason was for its ability to be flat towed behind a motor home with ease. after having it for a number of months i noticed it sometimes vibrated while towing. after reading some forums and checking with dealers chrysler realized that was due to these new models having electronic steering versus the old hydraulic systems and it now requires power to be constant to the steering during towing. now realize when i purchased it the manual clearly stated the procedures which i followed. now i receive a notice that says in order to flat tow i need a special harness installed with a cost of parts and labor of over $400. they have now provided an addendum to their owners manual stating all this. my issue is they want the owner to pay to make their vehicle safe when the owner was not the issue here. the owner should not be forced to pay when they purchased a vehicle that was advertised with certain features like safe flat towing when in fact that was not the case. so unless i want to pay $400 i have to tow a car that could vibrate severely under certain road conditions which could cause an accident.

Engine shuts down stalls out while driving no warning on roadways freeways no power steering or brakes serious injury or death could be a result.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. the contact stated while driving approximately 15 mph, the tie rods fractured without warning. the vehicle was taken the dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 14,000. the vin was not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. while driving 45 mph, the transmission began to shift improperly and hard shifted intermittently. also, the steering wheel vibrated without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission and the steering column needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 1,200.

2015 jeep cherokee with active drive ii. wobbles when flat towing under certain conditions. apparently there is a fix for this that was supposed to be complimentry as it is a safety problem. fac has not informed their dealers of this. they want cost of part and 4 hrs labor to repair. the vehicle i bought says place transfer case in nuetral and tramsmission in park and tow.the vehicle i got requires an accessoree kit to fix the problem. fca should be paying for this

I was driving to work on a thursday morning, the same route i always take, i am very fimilair with the raod and traffic in this area because i have been driving it for the last seven years straight. well on my way, i got into a accident, my new jeep has been into the shop a few times for a recall, i have only had the jeep for 7 months and have had to bring it in 2 times and now a 3rd for an airbag deployment issue. anyway, i was driving to work and my jeep does this thing where it feels like it shuts off when i am stopped and turns back on when i begin to move, i noticed it when i first purchased the jeep when i brought it in to the dealer, they told me it is suppose to do that because of the four wheel drive, i said ok fine i just wanted to make sure i was safe because that is one of the reasons i purchased this car. well on the way to work, my jeep did just that but lately it is doing a jerking move when it starts to accelarte now, making it feel like my car is jerking and accerating on its own which resulted in my hitting the car in front of me. now the jeep was not going at a fast speed at all, i am very familair with the location so i pay attention to detail here. i felt my jeep do the jerk movement and with my acceration i am certain this is what caused me to hit the car in front of me, i think there is something seriously wrong here and this needs to be addressed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that while the vehicle was being towed by a motor home, the front end of the vehicle wobbled to the left and right. the failure recurred on two other occasions. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 3,500.....updated 10-13-15 *bf the consumer stated the dealer was unable to make the alignment change that may have corrected the failure. updated 12/15/2015 *js

As i was driving the car notified me that my 4wd was temporary suspended and after sometime it showed service transmission and the service light came on and my steering was stuck, it was difficult to control the car but i managed to stop the car in a remote place. after i tried to restart the jeep i could not restart it and there was not cranking noise and i got 3 messages on my dash. "service transmission" "service park brake" and svc 4wd. i have had the jeep for less than a month. it just had 939 miles on it.

Vehicle surges forward after a stop at numerous & unpredictable times since purchase. this is very dangerous! transmission has been replaced & continues to do this. there is not any predictability as to when this will occur. have had vehicle in for service 6 times & they were 'unable to duplicate concern'. i would not be bringing my vehicle in if i didn't have a concern! i have never had as many issues with a new vehicle as i have had with this one! vehicle lurches/jerks/rocks when shifting from forward to reverse & reverse to forward--doesn't always engage immediately. vehicle has revved with acceleration, would not go forward & then suddenly surged forward several times. pulls to the right on level surface. vehicle rolls forward after braking as brakes don't always grab. after a stop, car rolls forward. many issues with radio jumping around on own & skipping preset stations, volume control, & speakers have gone in & out at random. hands free cell phone doesn't always work. navigation screen has gone blank/black while car still running. i have had a very loud alarm go on from navigation screen for unknown reason. i received an assembly 'ignition on' warning after i turned car off. car wouldn't start after 3 tries, then started. as you can see, the one consistent thing is the surging forward, but always something new & different, also.

I leased for 39 months a brand new jeep cherokee latitude 2015 at 10/25/2015 on champion chrysler jeep dodge dealer. it will complete 9 months that i have this car. on 3/16/215 there was the 1st recall about an issue on airbags that could open accidentally. on 6/5/2015 there was the 2nd recall (i am not sure what was the issue). on 6/15/2015 i had an issue about transmission system and i couldn't move the car in indy downtown. i couldn't turn the car on. my car was on dealer for service for 5 days. they changed the entire transmission system. on 7/5/2015 i was in ny and i almost had an accident because i heard an alarm and it was popping up an icon on the jeep panel, and then i realized that the steering wheel was really hard when i tried to turn 90 degrees on a crossroad. i almost hit the curb and the car behind me almost hit me. i needed to turn off and turn on the car several times to move the car. i intended to leave ny on sunday to work on monday but i did not feel safe to travel almost 12 hours. i waited until monday to go to a dealer in ny and check what was wrong about the car. on monday i went to a jeep dealer on warwick - ny and they said that they didn't have the spare part to change on my car and that i need to wait at least one more day so they could order and fix. but he also said that i could drive, but the wheel would be hard sometimes. i just need to pay attention on 90 degrees turns and u turns. i came back home listening the alarm all the trip. i left the car on champion dealer at 7/7/2015 and after one day they fixed the issue. at ny dealer they said that need to change some part and on champion they just fixed and didn't change nothing. my car is just 9 months old and i had several and important issues. i bought a new car. i just want to put gas and drive. i already lost several hours of work and i do not feel safe about this car.

1 day after purchasing the vehicle (jeep cherokee trailhawk) while turning into traffic, the vehicle shut down and lost all engine and steering and was completely disabled in oncoming traffic. the transmission check engine light, parking brake warning, and loss of 4-wheel drive warnings all came on. the vehicle was completely immobile and highly unsafe to drive. chrysler/jeep has advised they don't know exactly what is causing the problem and have offered several fixes, but they can not guarantee any of them will fix the safety issue. *tr

My car has a wobble between the 2nd and 3rd gear after a stop. it started shortly after delivery and it went away at exactly 1200 miles and is back since i hit 1800 miles. i can replicate it after every stop .. if you drive slowly after a stop. if you hit the gas paddle it goes too quick thru the gears and you won't notice it but i can't do a race after every stop and waste gas. if you normal start driving after a stop you feel the wobble from left to the right.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. while driving various speeds, the vehicle jerked forward while shifting gears. the contact stated that the rpms increased rapidly while attempting to switch gears. jim burke dodge chrysler jeep ram of burmingham, alabama was made aware of the failure and could not duplicate the failure. the dealer performed a software update. the manufacturer was not made aware of the transmission failure. on another occasion, while driving approximately 65 mph, the "power steering off" warning indicator illuminated without warning. on another occasion, while driving 45 mph, the power steering failed and the steering wheel became very difficult to steer. the contact pulled over to the left side of the road and restarted the vehicle to correct the failure. the vehicle was taken to the same dealer where the source of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer was made aware of the power steering issue and stated that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. the failure mileage was approximately 5,000.

My vehicle instantaneously picked up speed while i was coming to a stop; my foot was not on the gas pedal. a quick jerking motion of the steering wheel happened quickly with the acceleration. this caused me to press much harder on my brakes to stop my vehicle from hitting a car in front of me. this is a dangerous and very scary problem and i am grateful to not have caused harm to anyone. my gas consumption varies because of the required pedal pressure sometimes needed to accelerate since the gears seem not to switch over as they should. also, my radio has been blacking out, turning off and on, and failing to work at all. have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow for what was explained to me as a needed "software update." this is a new truck. my jeep has not yet made it to the required miles for its first oil change. (sigh). *tr

Power steering went out during a turn and i almost lost control. vehicle had to be towed to dealership. rack and pinion needs to be replaced is what i'm being told from my service department. i'm waiting for vehicle to be fixed but am afraid to drive it now. i only had it for 10 days before the incident. i don't know what to do. i fear i may have a crash and it may happen again. i have no trust in driving this unsafe vehicle. i don't understand how this could happen to a vehicle with only 175 miles on it. *tr
