Problems with 2013 Infiniti JX35 POWER TRAIN

On average, the 2013 Infiniti JX35 starts to “feel” problems with the POWER TRAIN and its various aspects after 65 355 miles.

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2013 Infiniti JX35

The transmission started slipping when driving forward and then the car would stall and not move. when putting back in parking and then to drive, the car would move but later back to slipping. took the car to infiniti dealer the same day, they ran the diagnosis and reported that the transmission would have to be replaced completely at the cost of $7000 total. the car has 66000 miles on it and has been maintained for all services regularly. no warning light or alert messages showed on dashboard. opened the case with "nissan/infiniti consumer affairs" and waiting for their response.

It's not changing gears on time. almost caused an accident at an intersection.

Vehicle will be running and suddenly and with no warning, the transmission will not provide power to the wheels. engine will not rev unless in neutral. this will happen while the car is in motion. i was driving in the fast lane of a 3 lane highway over a bridge when the car suddenly lost power. engine was running but no power was being transmitted to the wheels. engine would rev in neutral but once put into drive, the transmission would not engage and the engine would not rev. the second time, i was driving up a slight incline on a street and the car lost power to the wheels again. engine would rev in neutral, but when put into drive, no power to the wheels and the engine would not rev. both time it was very dangerous to have the car quit right in the middle of traffic. when stuck on the bridge blocking the fast lane, a chp eventually showed up to push me off the bridge. when stuck on the street, i was able to coast backwards into an open parking space on the side of the road. *tr

I've owned the jx35 since buying it new in 2013. at 92k+ was told by the dealer's service department that the transmission has failed, however my vin isn't part of the select vehicles recalled for repair. so very disappointing, as i love this car and it will cost more to repair it than it is worth.

Car shuddering, no power after pressing accelerator, no gears engaging

I'm experiencing transmission issues that cause the vehicle to shudder and hesitate without moving. i had it inspected by the infinity of portland dealer on 8/17/19 and they confirmed the transmission needs to be replaced. i spoke with infinity on 8/20/19 and they stated my specific car wasn't covered under the past transmission recall / service bulletins. my vehicle is unsafe and should be covered as this year and model of car has had numerous transmission issues.

Experiencing extreme shuddering, and acceleration issues. apparently is a very common problem. can't accelerate when merging into traffic, safety issue. the warranty was extended for 2013 jx35, but apparently not mine. why aren't all vehicles from this model year covered?!? afraid to replace and have the same thing happen again.

When turning the rubber, strange sound is heard in the front.

Many cars with cvt transmissions have experienced failures much more so than geared transmissions. mine is a jx35. infiniti has extended the warranty on some of them but not mine. why? i am 81 old, out of warranty and scared. what is the problem with cvt transmissions and why isn't mine considered a problem? the dealer and infiniti consumer affairs claim they don't know. who can i contact to find whether i should keep the car or dump it? nothing has happened to my car yet but if something will probably happen, i need to know.

Infiniti jx35 2013 had transmission issues and a recall at 45000 miles. dealership claims to have fixed the problem and extended warranty. immediately after warranty runs out the transmission begins to have a problem again. this is a significant safety issue as it most often occurs when trying to accelerate and the risk is high of being hit by a vehicle behind me as i can not accelerate or hit head on as i try and turn at an intersection. it happens during city driving as well as on the highway.

I have complete transmission failure on my jx35 infinity, and the vin number is not listed. nissan and infinity are aware of this issue, but in my opinion, is not covering additional vehicles to save money. i had the vehicle in the shop more than 3 times after purchasing it used from infinity in 2015 within 3 months time. apparently, this was just the beginning of the issue which i am now left with. the recall needs to be extended to cover additional vin numbers that are not listed.

Without warning or any alerts my jx35 went into catestrophic transmission failure. with less than 90,000 miles and frequent maintenance this failure is completely negligent on the part of infiniti. there is a recall on the 2013 jx35 regarding the transmission, which matches the failure in my vehicle but the vin number does not match. in my opinion, infiniti/nissan has had recurring negligence by utilizing cvt technology without protecting consumers. infiniti is a luxury brand that consumers are willing to spend more in order to gain a reliable vehicle. infiniti is letting down their consumers, i will never buy a nissan/infiniti again.

Car shudders and stalls when is coming to a stop or slowing down and trying to accelerate will stall and skip rpms i've seen many complaints about the same thing

Car will shudder and not shift in or out of gear. this happens on numerous occasions and has been a safety issue. especially with my children in the car. infiniti has refused to acknowledge the problem and will not fix it.

On december 17, 2018 the car was very slow to get into gear when turning left. after picking up my son from school, we headed home and as we were driving up the hill the car would no longer go into gear to go up the hill and i put the brake on. the car would start to go backwards in drive. at that time, i turned the engine back on and off in an attempt to drive the car up and the car continued to go backwards. i then put the car into rear drive and backed the car back down into a safe parking spot. i called the tow truck and had the car towed to autonation infiniti in tustin. i was told by the service manager francisco gutierrez that my transmission needed to be replaced and that the transmission fluid was low and burned and no longer had any transmission fluid. i did not see any oil leaks in my drive way to indicate a leak and i took my car into infiniti autonation five time this year where a multipoint inspection was performed and i was not given any indication that the transmission fluid was low. i believe this is the same jx 35 transmission issue that has already been reported to nhsta and is also currently under a class action lawsuit: batista, et al. v. nissan north america, inc., cause no. 14-cv-24728 district court southern district court of florida per nhsta - communication number: itb15-010c, date: 2017-04-24 category: 100000 power train summary: infiniti; procedure to clean cvt transmission fluid coolers this bulletin has been amended. the applied vehicles section has been revised. please discard previous versions of this bulletin. my transmission is dead and needs a full replacement per infiniti and i had no indicators that were identified and i was not notified by the dealer in order to repair the issue before my transmission was damaged and not repairable.

At 106,000 miles, our 2013 jx 35 was diagnosed with transmission failure by the dealer and a private car repair shop. found that there is a service campaign dated 4/18 addressing this issue for 2013 jx35 vehicles. ours meets all requirements except for vin. we believe our vin is one of the affected vehicles.

While driving my vehicle on city street i notice that my car seemed powerless when i pressed on the gas pedel also started to shudder an vibrate. also notice that my headlight was starting to obtain moisture in them.

Driving down the road and car started shaking really bad and then stopped accelerating. it still ran just wouldnt' go forward or reverse. dealer said probably valves on transmission need to be replaced which would cost $5960 as my car is beyond the warranty at 110,000 miles. i was also told that that may not fix the problem ,but that was needed to be done to start the diagnosis.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 infiniti jx35. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle shuddered and lost power while shifting. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to gregory infiniti (1121 s milwaukee ave, libertyville, il 60048, (847) 362-9200), but they were unable to duplicate the failure. additionally, the vehicle was taken to fields infinti glencoe (2100 w frontage rd, glencoe, il 60022, (847) 998-5200) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 33280115. the failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

Our 2013 jx35 has a cvt transmission malfunction which is causing a hesitation when shifting gears from park into reverse. when first placed in service the dealership stated they were not able to duplicate the issue. now 1 yr later the dealership is able to duplicate this issue, but was informed by the dealership that this issue cannot be covered by our warranty at this time, due to having no error codes. however, from online reports this is a classic warning sign in issues with cvt transmissions malfunctioning. this should be covered as other cvt transmissions already covered by nissan and infiniti.

Pc501 voluntary service campaign on the 2013 jx 35 does not show my vin but i am having the same complaints that are found to have start this on the cvt. i now have to spend 3500 on a new transmission because infiniti doesn't feel that my 2013 was not in the date range. nissian cvt transmissions are worthless last one i ever own .

In september of 2016, my car exhibited a shuddering motion when driving. it was found to be a faulty transmission and was replaced at ~ 85,000 miles. it was passed the warranty period and was paid out of pocket. approximately, one month ago my wife experienced the same problem and was towed to a local nissan dealership. i explained the transmission history to the nissan service tech and that it felt the same as when the transmission failed before.they were unable to duplicate the problem. i took the car home. on 12/2, the problem again happened. i brought it back to the nissan dealer who diagnosed a transmission problem. they advised i should return to the infiniti dealership as they replaced the transmission. it is a year old with ~15,000 miles on it. the infinity service department was unable to detect the transmission code but said it was due to an engine cylinder misfire. the proceeded to change the plugs, the drive belt and clean the fuel injection system. upon picking up the vehicle, i started the car and it immediately began bucking/ misfiring. the engine light came on. i went back inside the service department. they dove with me around the lot and witnessed the misfiring. the car is still in the shop. infinity said there wasn't a transmission problem although the nissan serviceman stated the code should still be in the cars system. i found several complaints online concerning faulty transmissions and was wondering what others have experienced.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 infiniti jx35. while accelerating from a stop, the vehicle jerked violently and failed to accelerate. also, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to infiniti of coral gables (2701 s le jeune rd, coral gables, fl 33134, phone number: (786) 619-3009) where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 77,700.

When my jx35 in second and third gear, i felt some delay and stutter. i have about 48,000 miles and it's been taken care by infinitii dealer where i bought my vehicle from.

On highway at about 70mph, car started de-accelerating, pressing on accelerator only increased engine rpm. eventually got to a side and turned off the car. on powering back on, there was no forward or reverse motion in d or r. had car towed to dealership. diagnosis is needs new transmission, car is still under warranty. this willl be the 2nd transmission in 4 years. there have been multiple episodes of car loosing ability to accelerate from stationary, going up a short incline or driving at city speeds. car is proving very unreliable and unsafe. what is nissan/infiniti doing about this? i see other similar complaints.

1. car at about 30 mph; on city streets, attempting to accelerate caused engine revs to go up with no change in speed. after a few minutes came to stop at a stop sign. there was a short incline after the stop sign. the car would not move forward on drive. turned off car, waited a few minutes, turned back on and were able to move forward normally with some intermittent hiccups. car has had transmission rebuilt.

This is the 2nd time that my transmission has needed to be replaced. the first time was in 2015 and now the computer is suggesting that my vehicle needs the transmission replaced again. the first time my car would not transition when it was placed into gear. this time my cars rpm's go all the way up even if i barely place my foot on the accelarator and it feels as if it stalls. there is a safety recall but i feel that this vehicle is defective and it should be replaced. my coworker has the same year make and model and his transmission went out too on the highway. this is very dangerous and it seems that fixing it does not resolve the matter.

At 36,000 miles, my jx35's transfer case cracked and it was repaired by infiniti under warrantee. the indication of the problem was a rubbing in the wheels, i heard a snap and the car basically died. luckily i was on the street on which we live. at 80,750 miles, the transfer case cracked again. the signal this time was a whirring of the transmission with leaking of differential fluid. with the car out of warrantee, we took it to a transmission specialist (bonded transmission, framingham, ma) to ensure it would be repaired adequately. they basically needed to rebuild the vehicles transmission. we just picked it up today and fingers are crossed that the problem doesn't happen again. the cost to repair was $2999.83. documentation of both repairs is attached. this was a major repair on each occasion. fortunately, the first time, i was alone in the car, on a residential street and there was not incident. the second time, we noticed the leak in the driveway. i'm concerned that if this happens again, we won't be so lucky. infiniti should be ashamed at producing such an inferior product.

Was accelerating after making a turn, car refused to accelerate. actual speed of car ~15mph odometer reported 40mph, 5 seconds later odometer jumped from 40mph - 60mph car is going about ~30mph. the car is making extremely loud transmission noises but not accelerating the gas pedal is to the floor. this is an ongoing issue with the car refusing to accelerate intermittently.

My jx35 has intermittent stalling. like a stutter where the gears have trouble engaging. especially when accelerating from a stop or going up hill. it has done this for at least 5 years with no codes ever being thrown from dealership checkups until now. dealership says it's a cvt error. my daughter has a 2015 nissan altima which is having a similar issue and it is being investigated and fully covered by nissan. i believe this should be covered as well.

The vehicle began making a repetitive thumping sounds that was more frequent as speed increased and less frequent when speed decreased. all tires were checked for debris or defects and none was found. took to dealership and was advised the front differential failed. the vehicle is not drivable, we are awaiting repair. we are now afraid to get the vehicle back. this is the 5th or 6th time that we had to bring the vehicle back for some repair or recall. unacceptable for a $50,000 with a 18 months of driving. *tr

Car wouldn't move from p (parking) gear at first. when it eventually started moving, it wouldn't accelerate to more than 20 mile per hour even though it's at 5-6000 rpm and eventually the car stop moving completely even though the engine was on. was told by the dealer that it was due to a defective transmission so brand new transmission was installed. 1500 miles(3 months) later the car stopped moving while driving on 2/11/14. car started slipping backward in the hilly road. leaky transmission fluid was at the site. dealer is installing another "new" transmission while there are less 6500 miles in the car. the car has been with the dealer for more than a week now. *tr

No forward or reverse in gear, rpm won't go over 2500 rpm in gear; neutral ok. car towed in to dealership. multiple dtc found; replaced cvt transmission assembly. *tr

After about 3000 miles, i began to experience a "bucking" of the car at very low speed in traffic (~10-15mph). experienced a loss of power and would have to stomp on the accelerator to get the vehicle to accelerate. this began to occur regularly until i decided to take the vehicle in as part of the first service. i was informed that the transmission would have to be replaced and that i would have to wait for the part to arrive and that this was a known service bulletin. my dealer has been very accommodating however it is very unnerving to have to replace a transmission just 5000 miles into the life of a vehicle. i am actively exploring options to address the financial liability that i now have as part of the purchase of this vehicle. *tr

Received vehicle on 8/15, below is the problem which have it around 1 week on 8/24 with the mileage of 300 1. when driving on the garden state plaza in a busy traffic, at the speed between 10-15 mph, follow with the distance 2 vehicles, vehicle was shudder for 2-3 sec. feeling is that when vehicle changing gear rum rum sound from the engine. 2. steering wheel vibration when driving above 60 mph 3. vibration in the gas pedal when acceleration more than 45mph 4. computer gas meter is inaccurate report to dealer on 9/2, and advise the torque converter need to replace, and need take 1 week to repair. vehicle was pick up on 9/10/13, and advise all works is complete. on 10/1/13. at the mileage 1000. the following happen again 1. steering vibration/shudder again at the speed 60 mph again, 2. gas meter is not inaccurate, and cannot refill gas for full tank. 3. gas pedal feel vibration dealer tech test drive the vehicle and stated that the vibration is normal. those vibration is come from the reaction of the front wheel. and gas meter is just the estimate mileage show, user cannot use as accurate measure for refill the gas. 1 week later, on 10/8/13. dealer call for pick up vehicle, and replace the 'instrument comb" and calibrate odometer. as of today 10/18/13. vehicle still have shudder when in the speed of between 10-15mph, especially going uphill. per dealer advise the jx35 engine is cvt, no changing gear. but i can feel that the shudder is come from when engine change gear from fist to 2nd. no further solution dealer can be provide. *tr

I had only owned this vehicle (infiniti jx35) for a few weeks when i noticed that in stop and go traffic and/or slow speeds (15-30 mph) the front end would shake and shudder uncontrollably as if the car was going to stall. the only remedy was to bump on the accelerator to get it going faster. this made for very dangerous driving conditions as you were constantly surging forward to keep the car from sputtering. apparently infiniti was aware of this problem prior to selling me this car as a technical service bulletin had been issued 7/13/2013. the bulletin describes the problem as a torque converter issue and recommends replacing the converter, which requires tearing apart the transmission, however after 3 days in the shop replacing the torque converter, the dealership (infiniti of norwood, norwood, ma) called me to tell me that this did not solve the problem and that they would now have to replace the transmission. in a brand new car...ridiculous! now i am being told that the transmissions are back ordered for 3-4 weeks and oh, by the way, there are 2 or 3 cars ahead of you waiting with the same issue. this is a very serious issue and in my opinion represents a breach of good faith by dealers selling these vehicles. my calls to the sales rep and the gm have gone unanswered for 5 and 3 days respectively. buyer beware on these vehicles. *js

To whom it may concern, we only had this brand new vehicle about 3-4 weeks when it started to exhibit major front end shaking/steering issues when operating/accelerating the vehicle between 15-25 mph. this is a highly unsafe situation that could cause the operator to lose control of the vehicle. there was a technical service bulletin (itb13-020) issued by nissan/infiniti on june 12th identifying this as a manufacturing defect and impacting jx35 vehicles manufactured on or before march 26, 2013. unfortunately, the repairs required on this brand new luxury vehicle are extensive and involved major work to the power train (see detailed report below). nissan/infiniti had to know about this issue on or before march 26th since that is when they officially changed out the part(s) on the assembly line which is well before they sold me this vehicle with (known) major defects causing it to be highly unsafe to operate. vehicle details vin #:[xxx] purchase date: june 9th 2013 purchase location: infinity of north scottsdale 2013 infiniti jx35 power train issues description: 03700 power train:automatic transmission:torque converter technical service bulletin no: itb-13-020 date of bulletin: 07/12/2013 impacts: jx35 manufactured on or before march 26, 2013 summary description: infiniti: may be shudder from the torque converter at 18-35 mph . *kb ypdated 7/22/13. *pe vehicle repair location coulter infinity 6225 east test drive mesa, az 85206 vehicle drop off date: 7/22/2013 pickup date: vehicle repaired and picked up as of 8/7/2013 major work completed: - replaced torque converter assembly unit (requires separating transmission from engine) - replaced electric power steering unit - replaced other parts including: ns-3 cvt transmission, nissan long live, gauge oil level. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

We bought a 2013 infiniti jx35 on 4/25/2013.vin# [xxx]. we have14,000 miles on it to date.this car has an intermittent transmission problem since we pick it up.. the dealer is aware of the problem. we have taken the car in 4 times now but the dealer has not been able to replicated & record. this problem can be found on most every infiniti forum. nissan is aware of the problem.the other day i was crossing an intersection when it decided to act up. this caused a near miss. now i see this problem as a real safety issue.the dealer coast infinit suggested i reach out to consumer affairs for assistance in resolving. i'm open to suggestions as i'm not interested in driving this vehicle as it is stands today.
