Purchased 2020 honda pilot 12/29/2019 off the dealer display floor. pilot has less than 1000 miles. while in motion on the city streets and highway, a cracking sound will occur from the dash board and the speedometer and the audio information screen will black out unable to gage anything. still in motion the screens will upload, but the screens will blackout again. this will happen for several minutes at a time. this was reported to the dealer and wife is hesitant to drive the brand new pilot. the question below is requesting a date of occurrence, but this is happening daily when we drive the pilot. never been in an accident.
While driving 65 mph on the highway, the panel and the entertainment system (gps) crashed. the screen restarted and then turned on in an unusable state (none of the buttons worked). to say the least, this experience was very distracting while driving on the highway. the malfunction of the panel could easily cause a loss of focus on the road and lead to a crash. the culprit is honda integration with apple's carplay. see thread link below which indicates that it is a widespread problem. the fix to the issue i had to do a hard reset the system by removing and reinserting the panel's fuse. thread: https://www.piloteers.org/threads/display-audio-constantly-on-in-2019-pilot.159521/
While stopped at a freeway off ramp. the car automatically shut off the engine per the start/stop feature. when the light turned green the car did not restart and instead completely shut off and put itself into park. i had trouble restarting while traffic built up behind me. this is not the first time this has happened. it is a very dangerous and disconcerting problem.
While driving my speakers began to crack : you can't listen to the radio . after a few momments the screen turns black ' network connection lost ' goes blank or audio turned off . them goes completely blank . them the speedometer will also go blank. this happen while using apple car play , gps. as well as xmradio . i was on city roads the first time it happened then highway were it happened frequently.
While driving, i received an alert that "some driver assist systems cannot operate." lights indicated that the collision mitigation, and lane departure, and lights were affected. i do not want the collision mitigation system to randomly disable (or any system for that matter). the dealer performed a hard reset on my system and we'll see if it's fixed. still, it posed a hazard to me at the time.
The vehicle has frequently had an issue with the infotainment system glitching which leads to the lkas (lane keep assist), aac (adaptive cruise control), and lane departure system to fail while the vehicle is in motion. when turning the car off after these issues occur, the infotainment system will stay on, draining the battery. the vehicle has been taken to a honda dealership. the dealership stated that an update would fix this issue. once we informed them and they confirmed that the system was already updated, they told is there was nothing we could do. the only way we can stop the infotainment system from staying on is by removing the fuse for the infotainment system. we have contacted honda and they have refused to do anything about this.
Digital instrument panel that contains all gauges (speedometer, tachometer, gas gauge, etc.) intermittently turns off while the car is in operation. the screen goes entirely black as if the car is not on, meaning we do not have a functioning speedometer while the car is in operation when this occurs. we've had the car at the dealership twice for this issue and it still isn't resolved.
With just under 5000 miles on my 2020 pilot, the infotainment system froze and would not shut off when the car was turned off. i lost access to the rear camera, gps, cross traffic alert, radio, hands-free phone and other features. i was also afraid that the screen staying on all night would drain my battery. i took it to the dealership the next day and they fixed the problem. however, i don't think that a car this new should be having these types of problems. it seems to be a common occurrence in late-model hondas. it will remain to be seen how long the fix works. i use this car for road trips with my family and i am concerned that this will happen again while we are traveling. the only way to fix the problem seems to be taking the car into the dealership, and leaving it there all day. this poses both safety concerns and is also extremely inconvenient. a brand new car shouldn't have these problems. honda needs to fix these issues by issuing a recall. i have been a loyal honda ...
Keyless start system problem being displayed. still able to start vehicle, unknown how much longer or what if any features can and will be disabled. several other owners are complaining about the same exact issue. seems to be related to defective start/stop switch.
We we're driving down the interstate and the instrument panel as well as the infotainment center went black/completely out. we could not tell our speed nor any other vehicle data as the instrument pane was dead. while the infotainment center going out is bad, having no instrument panel is very dangerous and a major safety concern.
