When i stop curbside for school carpooling (i have 5 children at 3 different schools) to allow passengers to exit the passenger side sliding door, i then cannot get it to close. the door will slide all the way to within 1 inch of closing and pop back open. repeatedly. driving with the sliding door ajar is not safe. i have been able to use the driver's side buttons to stop the door, and start it closing again. if i do this stop/start action repeatedly (not allowing the door to slide all the way back open) i can almost always get the timing right to get it to close...but often it takes 3-5 minutes to get the stop/start combination to close the door entirely. i am usually unable to remain in the carpool pull throughs that long so i seat my baby on the drivers side so when we pull away with the door ajar, there is less of a safety concern until i am able to pull to another spot and deal with the door. it is very frustrating and even more so, unsafe!
When we start the engine all the errors come up saying that the vhs failed, the electronics stability failed, brake system failed and all the other components. we have purchased 2 odyssey and they both have that problems. when we called honda they told us to repair it as it was our fault. after few starts it goes away. we went to our mechanic and they reset the codes and it has gone away for now but there is an on going issue with the odyssey. so honda has recalled the pilot but not the mini van. same problems.
When i slowed to a stop, the car suddenly died in the middle of the street and went into park. the air conditioner continued to run, we could not get it out of park. my concern is that the dealer says this has never happened before. i'm hearing from many sources that this has happened to them - even while moving. they can't seem to find out what's wrong, but i'm concerned that it's something major. it may also be dangerous if this happens while i'm driving, and i guess i don't trust the dealer. i'm just notifying you to make a record of this in case this turns out to be something more than just a quick fix..
On august 28,2019 my van had been parked in the garage all morning until i decided to go pick up lunch. i drove about 10 mins to the restaurant, parked for around five mins, then got back in car to drive home. about five mins into the drive home i heard what sounded like a bomb going off and then a scattering sound. i was shocked bc there was no cars behind me on the road and only one small sedan traveling about two car lengths in front of me. i had been watching closely to the back of the sedan bc it happened to be a friends and we were talking on the phone together. and no point did anything fling up from the road and there were no trees, bridges, or anything above the road. she could here the noise from her car as well and we both were like omg what was that sound, and then a second time the bomb like sound happened. about two mins later i pulled back into my garage and began inspecting my car and that when i realized it was my sun roof. my sun roof exploded out of no where. i live in southeast louisiana and on this day we were under yet another heat advisory. at the time of the incident around 12:53pm it was clear sunny skies and 95 degrees outside with a heat index of 115. the aching a/c was set to 71 inside of my vehicle. the interior cover to sunroof was closed thankfully because otherwise things could have been worse with glass flying and falling everywhere.
The vehicle completely shuts down and off intermittently when the auto idle stop function is engaged. this happens when we are in traffic on a highway and streets or at stop signs and stopping briefly and and the vehicle goes into park and must be re-started by pressing the "on/off" button. it is very scary and dangerous. also i get an error message saying the vehicle's "heated seat system problem". secondly the vehicles collision warning comes on when there is nothing around and says the passenger side sliding door is open when it is not.
There has already been a recall issued for the latches on both sliding doors. i was notified at the end of 2018 about this recall however my dealership (hubler honda) did not have the parts at that time. they encouraged me to bring my van to back to hubler honda at the beginning of 2019 as the parts would be more readily available. it is now july 25. i have an appointment tomorrow and that dealership notified me, today, that the parts are backordered and will not be able to fix the latches. this is absolutely not safe with three children and unacceptable. can someone help? i know i can't be the only one this is happening to. towards the end of the school year, there were multiple episodes in the car pick up line. my children would climb into my stopped van, push the button to close the door, it would close almost completely, and then open back up.
I bought the vehicle new on 07/10/2017. it has been towed into the dealership 3 times because it won't start. the first time it was towed in, the dealership replaced the battery. the second time it sat in my garage for two days. we were unable to start the van. the van has a keyless entry system. the van would not unlock, the lights on the dash wouldn't light up and it would not start. i called honda and they sent a tow truck for the car. the tow truck driver tried to start the van by jumping the battery and he could not start it. it was completely dead. it was towed to the dealership on that sunday. the dealership called me on monday morning and told me that couldn't find a problem with the van. they said it started right up. they said they tried to replicate the problem but could not. i picked the van up the following day. then on 07/19/2019 my wife drove the van to a local venue with the grandchildren. after about an hour, she came out to the van and it was completely dead again. i called honda and they sent another tow truck to pick it up. once again the tow truck driver attempted to jump start the van, and once again it was completely dead. the van was towed over to honda where once again they said they could not find a problem with the van. it started fine. they kept it two days checking it out and once again told me that they could not replicated the problem. this is the third time in 2 years that the van has to be towed in and they can't find the problem. i cannot believe that i have the only honda odyssey in the entire world with this problem and honda does not know what it is and find the problem.
Unusual super loud noise come from ac fan under the hood when ac is on.
Entertainment system malfunctions constantly. center console displays message: 'camera system problem. image cannot be displayed.' this will happen randomly while the car is on whether i'm driving or not. i have noticed it happening more often when the ac is used. it almost always happens whenever remote start feature is used.
When i was driving in highway at 70 mile/h, the sunroof glass broken. i did not see anything hit my car, no truck and bridge near by.
***2018 honda odyssey caught fire while operational**** on 24th april 2019, on her way to drop our kid to school, my wife was driving our 2018 honda odyssey. all of a sudden, this vehicle got smoke at first and then caught fire while it was operational. my wife pulled over and took the kid out immediately. the passing by garbage truck driver started to control fire till cops and firemen team arrived. the fire was controlled by excellent efforts of that cop/truck driver. the fire appeared to have started near 3rd row driver side seat...my 3 year old was on the driver side 2nd row seat---just 1.5ft away from it. luckily, my wife and child were not hurt. i've been following up with geico insurance, us honda (case# 09517538) rigorously. i am really inclined to know what went wrong with the vehicle that virtually threatened the lives of my wife and child. i am still awaiting response from them. one of my friends suggested me to report this incident to ntsb and they redirected me to nhtsa. my intent is to ensure that the root cause of this mishap can be identified and rectified asap by us honda as these honda odysseys are driven mostly by families with kids. i was under an impression from these followups that this incident has been reported to appropriate federal/state authorities. i just want to make sure that nhtsa help me in my quest to understand what really went wrong.
Both rear doors become stuck and completely inoperable. the power door mechanism has failed and now the door is completely stuck in the closed position. there is no way to manually open the door from the inside or the outside.
The van brakes have squealed since brand new 2018 purchased, returned van and they installed new brake pads and possible other parts however the brakes still squeal, ive called and the dealership says they don't know whats wrong and don't know how to fix. the 2nd issue is the cds when played get very hot like on fire hot, took van in to get looked at. the dealership replace cd player . the fix did not work the new cd player still makes the cds very hot like its going to start a fire. the cds are so hot that i cant even hold them. i believe a fire will start
While driving on a 50 mph, two lane road, the vehicle abruptly shifted into neutral autonomously after experiencing a transmission failure and prohibited the driver from retaking control of the vehicle. with no power available, the driver was ultimately forced to coast to a stop on the shoulder of the road. warning messages indicated a transmission failure, emission control failure, and blind spot monitoring failure. the car was towed to the nearest honda dealer.
I should have never gone back to honda! my 2018 honda odyssey has been another lemon! bought the car as a cpo on december 21, 2018 with just over 3,000 miles. since then the car has been in the shop 4 times to fix this infotainment system. i had the entire dashboard black out on me and couldn't see my speed, yet the honda dealership near me told me 'just drive it to work, it'll be okay.' then the infotainment went out and nothing worked for weeks until another dealership was nice enough to replace it. just yesterday my infotainment system makes a very loud 'beep' and shuts down while i'm driving on a busy highway! then the dashboard blacks out and the car 'safety features ' cause it to break! when i spoke to the dealership i am told 'we will have to recreate that problem before anything it done' are you serious?! i take my kids around in this mini van. i pushed to go back to honda because 'they have gotten so much better', but it turns out they haven't.
I've had my 2018 honda odyssey touring for 2 months; it has 2600 miles. my vehicle shifted into park while driving 70mph on the interstate! the car made a popcorn/gravel slamming against the car sound while felt as though the bottom half of the van was trying to separate from the top!! talk about frightening! it briefly flashed ""collision mitigation"-something,, but it was just on the screen for a half-second. i pulied over to the side of the highway, put my foot on the brake and pressed the drive button. it happened again maybe 10 minutes later on a busy road traveling at 45mph. i arrived at my first destination, researched how to turn off the collision mitigation system, and continued to my second destination. it happened twice on the highway on the way to that destination, flashing the same warning so quickly that i couldn't read it, same noise, vibration. i called the dealership from which i bought it. they towed the vehicle to the dealership. they could not reproduce the problem. "best educated guessed" that the battery was the problem, though i never received a low battery warning from my vehicle, and they performed a battery reset procedure. the dealership expects me to drive my family home in this vehicle without changing or even inspecting the transmission or parking pawl, which was the cause of the load popcorn/gravel noise. i have contacted honda and a case has been opened.
Just purchased this van, brand new, less than 2 months ago. when driving my car, and in the midst of a turn into oncoming traffic, my car shut down. the engine shut down, the lights went off, i couldn't move the wheel. it just went dead. i took it to the dealer for this issue and the series of issues i had experienced in the days leading up to this event, which included not being able to open the trunk, a message flashing that the battery was dead and to turn off all the lights in the vehicle (no lights were on), anti-theft message came up twice, on several occasions the front safety sensors said they were not operable (which are controlled by a box by front rear view mirror, and sensor was not blocked), calls have been dropped randomly, side doors stick, etc. the dealer told me that the vehicle needed an ota system update, and that the car shut down as a result. when i questioned why the car would shut down while in motion due to a need for a system update, i was told that is what the car is designed to do. i again repeated, the car is designed to shut down while in motion just because of a system update? i was told yes, all computer assisted cars are designed that way. they told me nothing else is wrong with the vehicle. this is a huge safety issue, and i have seen online, that many others have experienced the same issue. peoples lives are at perilous danger and risk when these cars are shutting down while in motion. something must be done now before serious accidents occur and someone dies. i do not feel comfortable putting my family back in this vehicle, especially with no satisfactory answer from the dealer on what caused this issue.
Power sliding door closure
Panel behind the gas pedal and brake pedal is missing. this exposes a large area of electrical wires. a driver will easily be able to get his feet there while stretching his legs and intentionally mess up the wiring. i contacted the dealer and they said it is normal for 2018 models of odyssey.
Honda navigation system displayed a message that a map update is available. followed the honda instructions to process the map update using a usb device. while updating at 78% complete, the system displayed a message that the update failed. the navigation system, now, will not even boot up. took the car to the dealer and after attempts to correct the issue, honda technical team stated that a new navientertainment program needs to be installed. the september map update somehow corrupted the navi program.
Sliding doors will not close. sometimes the door will close almost to the end and then recoil or the door will not close at all (it just beeps). a large number of people appear to be having this issue with all sorts of fixes that are not solving the problem (https://www.odyclub.com/forums/81-2018-odyssey/309801-driver-s-side-sliding-door-stopped-closing.html#/topics/309801?page=6) and appears related to nhsta complaint number 10136418. dealer inspected and replaced motors on both doors per honda's recommendation. problem immediately reappeared making it so the door cannot be closed unless disengaging the power to the doors, exiting the vehicle, and manually closing the doors. it happens every day and is getting worse.
2018 honda odyssey was purchased 3/16/2018 at west honda dealership located in las vegas. not long after purchase, strong fuel, and similar chemical odor appeared, odor came out of the air vents directly. the odor is so strong that the vehicle would smell chemical and smoky for days. odor always appeared during driving, the level of strongness caused nausea, cough, and headache. addressed the issue to 2 different dealerships, with the mention of health concern and fire risk during driving. both dealerships' service advisors verified the issue verbally, did diagnosis in 3 out of 4 total visits. could not find the issue while odor presenting in the car; thus, no repair was done to fix the issue. reports are collected, filed a complaint to the headquarter. case manager admitted there is something wrong with the vehicle as similar cases with the same type of vehicle are heard from the same area. being told that no inspection can be done without odor appears again and ignored the previous visits' results.
On monday, june 18, 2018 at about 8:00 am my wife was sitting stationary at a stoplight and the window in the rear hatch exploded. there were no other cars/vehicles around her and the weather was clear. the window exploded for no visible reason. the glass shattered everywhere into the rear part of the van and rear seat area. we brought the van to inver grove honda in inver grove heights, mn (where we purchased the van new in december, 2017) and they refused to classify this as a defect and directed us to file a claim with our insurance company (which we did). they did provide us with a loaner car for free and helped us work with a glass replacement shop. however, i feel this is a manufacture defect, the glass hatch window should not have exploded for no reason.
Customer states intermittently right side sliding door does not close properly, sliding door ajar light comes on while driving, right side sliding door will not close using automatically, having to manually/forcefully push door close, has happened twice dealer ship did not do anything as they are not able to duplicate the issue. this is safety concern as it is happening while car is in motion and the door is opening. with kids on board it is always risky. i stopped letting them sit on that side.
Push button shifting from reverse to drive is problematic. if the drive button is not pressed firmly enough the vehicle remains in reverse, but the driver thinks that the vehicle is in drive. if there is a person behind the vehicle and the operator presses the throttle then a possibly deadly accident can occur. when shifting from drive to reverse there is an audio notification (a chime sound) that the vehicle is in reverse. the is no similar notification when shifting from reverse to drive. this is a potentially life threatening flaw.
The passengers side sliding door would not open automatically. the open/close button on the dash would not open the door either. the key fob wouldn't open it. we shut off the automatic door feature and the door still would not open manually. this is a huge safety issue. after driving the car home, the door opened without issue.
Brand new vehicle. approximately 700 miles on odometer. passenger side sliding door would not close completely; either via the push-button operation or manually. made a grinding sound when closing and then beeped 3 times. drove the vehicle to dealership with door ajar (beeping alarms the entire way)
2018 honda odyssey elite, 4 months old and 650 miles. while driving on the interstate the moon roof exploded. sounded like a gun going off. remanants of the moon roof are shaped upwards showing the explosion came from the inside and not being hit by a rock, etc. no traffic was in front of my vehicle and i wasn't driving under a underpass.
A humming or bass sound at different speeds in motion, bbmmmmm bbmmmm noise also a humming and static from the radio when vehicle is off and sitting still off and on at different intervals, some days you have it and others you don't.
I was driving the car on city streets and started to smell smoke. while i was driving the dash board started to flash engine problem and car was shutting down. i pulled the car over and stopped it. when then i saw smoke was coming from under the hood. within approximately 5min the car started to go up in flames. davie fire dept run # 3285 davie police kept #18-017945 honda case claim made state farm claim made
On march 24, my 2018 honda odyssey shifted into park at 65 mph on i-95 in philadelphia. the honda rep, oliver (a honda employee), explained to my husband that when the computer in the car connected to the collusion avoidance sensor disconnects, a computer assumes the car is off and that forces the car into park regardless of the speed it is going. this is what happened when i was driving, the entertainment panel screen went blank and while it was rebooting, i lost all control of the car, no gas, no brake, steering was difficult. when it reboot, it was in park and the engine made a terrible noise like metal hitting metal. i was barely able to steer the car to the side of the highly with my three children ages 8 months, 2 years and 4 years old in the car. the honda rep believes the problem has to do with the way the power cable is connected to the battery. he explain that this caused the sensors to disconnect intermittently. the rep, oliver, blamed the problem on the dealership during their repair of the car for an unrelated issue. however, this is incorrect. the car front sensor have been losing connection to the computer since we took it home before the dealership touched the battery. there are other issues with this car's electrical and computer system that i would not bring up, but oliver's description of the car computer system makes it relevant. he explained that the car has 6 computer connected with ethernet cables. much of the work for the basic function of the car and transmission is done by the computer that also runs the entertainment system, the big screen common in the front panel of cars. oliver explained when one computer gets bogged down, it takes the entire system down. our car and a lot of other 2018 honda odyssey have a known flaw that honda has not fixed in well over a year. the bug, take the camera and retainment system down
If i buy a new 2018 honda odyssey at around 4000 miles start having transmission problems at around five to six thousand miles i start getting a horrible toxic burning chemical smell coming from inside the car somewhere do you take it to the dealership they say nothing's wrong obviously there is something wrong with his doing what it's doing
1. ) fuel efficiency is not as reported; it is several mpgs lower under all conditions (highway/city). 2.) safety sensor to alert for pedestrians on sides/front do not work properly. even service rep at dealership said she has had other reports of it not functioning properly and the sensors/system may need to be 'reset'. it is incredibly dangerous to think these systems can fail without any warning message or notice. car was at a stop and as it started moving forward, a pedestrian came from the right front and was nearly hit. there were no advance warnings, audio/visual to alert the driver. also after checking with a friend, we could not trigger the alert walking from right to left (from side to front) of vehicle. no accident occurred, thankfully, but people need to know these systems fail and need to be checked to notify of oncoming pedestrians/bikers/vehicles. i bought this expensive vehicle because it had 'sensors' and thought it would be far safer according to sales guy. not the case. the public is being misled.
The van will stall after stopping. while turning right, i stop at a stop sign, waiting and when it's safe, go to start to turn, pushing the accelerator and the van will stall. it will take me releasing the accelerator and pushing it again to get it to move again. this is terrifiying. this has happened upwards of 20 plus times since purchasing the van in august 2017.
I just got delivery of this new 2018 ex-l w nav+res. the horn on this vehicle is too soft and sometimes on busy highways cannot be heard from other cars when the it is pressed in emergency, especially if the other driver is lessening to radio at moderate to high volume. compared to previous years odyssey and other vehicles this model trim has a single horn whereas other had double. the horn volume needs to higher for other to be able to hear
Our new 2018 honda odyssey ex has failed twice to respond to the gas pedal. the first time i was stopped at an intersection. i took my foot off the brake and pressed the gas pedal. the engine continued to idle and pushed me out into oncoming traffic. fortunately after pressing the pedal several times the engine responded. the second time i was on a freeway traveling straight at about 55 miles per hour coasting behind traffic in front of me. again, the engine did not respond the first time i pressed the accelerator. after about the third attempt, the engine responded. i took my car to the honda dealer. they kept overnight to test it when it was cold and ran diagnostics. they found nothing wrong and said that there is nothing they can do. i hope they figure this out before this car kills me.
When driving, my van will switch from drive to park. the van makes a rubbling sound then cuts off. i restart the van the van and it drives. this has happened 4 times in the last month. i'm taking it to the honda dealer next week.
Vehicle randomly displays a warning that anti-theft cannot communicate and instructs driver to press and hold power. after several failed attempts at restarting the vehicle, we discovered that it meant the radio power, not the push start for the car. it is not clear if this means the radio antitheft or the vehicle anti-theft. the car was stationary and in a parking spot. it happened on start up (and remained there during all 4 restarts). it went away after press and holding the radio power button.
The engine stall when trying to enter traffic after stopping at an intersection,it pauses for a while take long time to pick up.this is very unsafe when entering traffic or stop sign.it happened constantly since purchased.also after stop ,i have to push the gas hardly to pick up to normal drive i went dealer two times they check the car and they can't resolve this issues vehicle has also safety recall ,they fixed it i had problems with audio system,no sounds they replace it
Front and rear parking sensor failure. turned care on and alarm sounds and flashes parking sensor error. alarms continuously.
I just bought a brand new honda odyssey 2018 ex-l on october 16, 2017. turned off the engine completely and will hear several loud pop sounds from the back of the van.
1. failure of the rear entertainment system: the rear camera and entertainment system will lost "network connectivity" and stop functioning 2. brake mitigation system: spontaneously turns on 3. failure of the infotainment system: the infotainment system will turn off and go into a series of failures, ultimately turning off completely and not functioning. the infotainment system will also experience power errors resulting in errors with the anti theft system. in addition, the radio/speakers periodically stop working.
Please see the attached letter regarding the power sliding door that fails to shut all the way.
New 2018 honda odyssey elite (10-speed transmission) driving on highway and many error messages appeared about steering system, brake system, lane departure system and other failures. car started having problems downshifting. high rpms for speeds where it should be lower. sent to dealer for 1 week. dealer replaced powertrain command module and o2 sensor. messages disappeared. 1 week after that, transmission started having problems downshifting again while driving on highway. parked van and center console screen went black then had broken lines of pixels in one or two places.
