Recently reported STRUCTURE problems on 2006 Honda Odyssey

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the rear hatch strut that held the liftgate failed and as a result, would not remain in an upright position. the contact stated that the liftgate struck and injured a passenger in their back. the dealer was notified who informed the contact that there were no recalls and offered no further assistance. the contact did not inform the manufacturer of the failure nor was the vehicle repaired. the current mileage was 60,000 and the failure mileage was 59,500.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the hydraulic liftgate hinges failed. the lift gate came down unexpectantly while it was open. no one was injured. the dealer was called and advised the contact that there were no recalls for the failure and any repairs would be at the contacts expense. the manufacturer confirmed the dealer's statement and provided no further assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 77,000.

2006 honda odyssey excessive vibration from engine when at idle and especially when eco mode engaged or during slow acceleration. honda dealer states the cause to be a broken motor mount which is a special design and costs over $500 - $600. the van has only 80000 miles but that puts it past warranty. see honda service bulletin tsb 06-083 for a more detailed report from honda. the reason i bring this to you is the many web sight blogs with similar issues and honda's unwillingness to help with costs and or replacements. this could become a serious safety issue if someone can't afford to replace them and if the mounts design is at fault, simple replacement will only result in future failures. if this issue is allowed to persist for too long the other mounts begin to fail and the motor dropping out becomes a real possibility. this should be a recall by honda and a redesign of the mount should be investigated. *ln

Failure of the lift gate gas struts on a 2006 honda odyssey touring that causes the gate to close unexpectedly. consequences were an adult male being hit in the back by the lift gate. in this instance no serious injury had occurred, but if the person in the path of the lift gate were smaller the weight and momentum of the gate could easily cause head and neck injuries. i would assume most owners of this minivan have children and there is no doubt that a child in the path of a failing lift gate would sustain serious injury. the lift gate gas struts need to be replaced. honda is aware of the issue and has offered a recall for this on similar vehicles, but has not yet offered any correction for the vehicle we own. *tr

The power lift gate on 2006 odyssey failed hitting my husband on the shoulder. we had no prior warning of this happening and it could have easily resulted in a more serious injury had the gate closed on one of my children. honda currently has a recall on 2005 vehicle for this issue but when i called them they said they would make a note but at this time did not have any information as to a recall of the 2006. my local dealerships acknowledged a problem with the deterioration of the gas struts in the odyssey. this clearly a dangerous defect and needs to be rectified before someone gets seriously injured. *tr

2006 honda odyssey: automatic door on driver side slide open while accelerating on an on ramp to a highway with automatic locks locked. the on ramp was curved as well. the door was not shutting completely unless i manually closed it. the door stayed closed. there were no lights indicating an open door. i had the automatic door function off. i turned it on to close the door and turned the power off again until i could get to a safe spot to manually close. i brought it in to the dealer and the automatic door motor was replaced as well as the roller. *tr

2006 honda odyssey touring--with no warning, the rear liftgate came slamming down--rear liftgate strut failure--no one under, but could cause serious injury. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey touring. the contact stated the tail gate was open when the tailgate began beeping and slammed shut without warrant. the contact was under the tail gate at the time of the failure but was able to avoid it from falling on top of his head. the contact found that the tailgate strut had failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted who advised there were no recalls and would not provide any assistance. the failure and current mileage was 81,300.

My car is a honda odyssey touring 2006. i remotely opened the tailgate and stepped under it to put up the third row seat. the tailgate unexpectedly began to lower and hit me in the head pretty hard. i then tried again thinking it was an error and was almost hit again. the third time i tried to stop the door from going down but could not. now the tailgate will not remain open and i can no longer safely get access to my children's things in the back of the van. it was scary and unnerving to me when this happened because i could not stop the tailgate from going down. there was no safety for me to stop it. *tr

2006 honda odyssey. sliding door has been stiff intermittently (which we lubricated) and on a few occasions door would not close until warmed up in garage. on june 5th, 2010 husband opened door and door fell completely off track and would have landed on ground if he had not caught it. contacted honda canada told hadn't heard of problem. 15 minute internet search reveals 10 others with same year and model who have suffered same incident. took it to dealer will replace the roller/hinge which broke- approx $230.00 to fix (not covered under extended warranty). huge safety concern that this part can break and let car door fall down-imagine it had been on one of my kids aged 5 and 6. *tr

My 2006 honda odyssey. the passenger side electric sliding door fell off of the hinge. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who stated that the door was not covered under the warranty and told me that i was responsible for the repair cost. the honda manufacturer has not been contacted. the failure mileage was 48,000. the drive side squeaks, creaks, rattles, and clunks it sounds like it is also get ready to fall off. *tr

I would like to report a safety issue with the honda odyssey minivan. the metal hinges on the driver and passenger door do a terrible job at keeping the doors open. i make sure that the door is in the detente position. it doesn't matter. a slight gust of wind or if the car is on an incline, the doors will slam shut on their own. itt smashed & broke a bone in my left hand. it slammed close on my shins before that many times. i am frightened for fear of severe injury to some body part being slammed into the door of guests and being sued. i make a point to have my whole body leaning on the door if it needs to stay open for some purpose now. this is really a safety issue for the whole family. i know other owners have the same experience. i have never driven another car that i was afraid the front door would slam shut on me - without warning - before this. 2006 honda odyssey ex-l liftgate struts not working. i had the hatch door open & it suddenly shut hard on it's own. my daughter and i were getting groceries from the van at the time. until this time, there was no indication that the parts were wearing. i just had the van in a honda dealership on 4/21 for repairs that included having them check out why the cargo area was filled with water. i will order replacement parts & install. *tr

Driver was switching lane on a freeway. the signal did not work. on the same day, the power door lock and power sliding door and keyless entry did not work too. after taking it to honda, according to their service bulletin on 11/12/08, they claimed it is a electrical problem and b-can dtc after exposure to the water leaks. the service bulletin claimed water enter where the connector c701 behind the left rear side trim panel. the correction action is seal the pwr sliding door pulley mount, reposition the foam block, dry connector c701, and apply dielectric grease to the connector. if the issue occurs outside of the warranty, a goodwill consideration would be offer but needs to be requested. i end up paying half which i don't think it is fair because: 1) i park my van in my garage 2) my van is 4 yrs old and is only 37k young, 3) i live is a relatively dry climate, in ca for these reasons, my car is indoor 95% and spends 98% of its time in dry climate. i believe this issue is a defect and does cause a serious safety issue because it impacts turning signals. another reason why i think it is unfair is the day i got my car back after it was in the shop for 5 days, it was working when i picked it up and then by the time i got home, it wasn't working. i think there is something else wrong and i don't think they have identify a root cause. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. the contact stated while attempting to close the passengers side automatic sliding door, there was an unusually loud rumble and the entire door fractured from the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for repairs. the failure and current mileage were 50,000.

Based on a report today that honda is recalling 2003/2004 honda odyssey where the issue involves the ignition interlock, a device intended to ensure that the key can only be removed when a vehicle is firmly shifted into park. i have a 2006 honda odyssey and had a similar issue in 2010 where after parking and removing my keys and i got down, the van moved backwards and the my front door hit another car in the parking lot damaging both cars, and i had to file a claim with unitrin direct. the result being i have a fault accident record on my license and my insurance went up for no fault of mine. i think honda should recall even the 2006 model and pay me back from my repairs and extra insurance payments that i have paid and work with dmv/unitrin to remove the fault accident record that i have on my license. *tr

Power liftgate closes unexpectedly every time it is opened on model year 2006 odyssey touring vehicles equipped with power operated rear liftgate. vehicle owner hit in head by closing liftgate. right power liftgate gas strut has worn out prematurely and fails to hold the power liftgate in the fully open position. parts replaced by dealer to correct the failure. *tr

Please review your 10v-055000 concerning 2005 honda odyssey touring's rear lift gate support cylinders. my vehicle is a 2006 with the same problem. the problem occurred before the expiration of the 36 month/36000 mile warranty. unfortunately, my wife did not tell me of the problem until a week after the 36 month warranty expired. honda shows the part number for this lift cylinder as 74820-shj-a61. this part number was used on 2005-2008 vehicles. the local honda dealer at first was unwilling to do anything. after i insisted he call honda, he informed me that there was a recall in progress. however, since my vehicle was not currently a part of the affected vehicles, the best honda would do was pay for the replacement parts if i paid the dealership for the labor. sounds to me like honda knows they have a bigger problem, but are unwilling to expand the recall. instead, they are trying to fix the larger problem on the cheap. and then, only if they are called to task about it. it is clear to me, that as time goes on, the 2006, 2007, and 2008 vehicles will experience the same problems. please get this recall expanded to include the 2006-2008 vehicles, as well as the 2005 vehicles. it is the same part number for all vehicles, 2005-2008. *tr

The sliding door of my odyssey (touring) model will not close all the way. similar to another complaint, the door gets close to being closed, but will not close either electronically or manually. the van is able to be driven with the sliding door open. this first happen at only 29k miles and continued to happen periodically until i took it to a honda dealership who could fix the problem. the service person at the dealership (that was able to fix it) showed me that it was a design flaw of the "center roller" for the sliding door. this is a part located at the rear of the door attaching it to the van's body. there are two plastic round parts that act like ball bearing rollers, and they become out of place causing the door's alignment to be off. when this happens the door not to close all the way. the dealership service person said if honda spent $8 more on making these round parts metal instead of plastic, the problem would not have occurred. the rest of the center roller part is made of metal. he said that one odyssey a week comes to the dealership with this problem of the door not being able to close due to the center roller. *tr

Manual sliding doors broke. both manual sliding doors broke within one month of each other. cables apparently snapped which prevented the doors from being opened from the inside or outside. had to have cables on both doors replaced. an expensive safety defect. *tr

The passenger's sliding door does not always open using the remote control. this is a hazard to release the door so the rear occupants can exit the vehicle. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. the driver side electric sliding door fell off of the hinge. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who stated that the door was not covered under the warranty and that the contact is responsible for the repair cost. the honda manufacturer has not been contacted. the failure mileage was 91,000.

The supports for the rear liftgate/hatchback on my honda odyssey minivan failed causing the full weight of the rear gate to strike the head of our 11-year old child. the failure of the rear-gate occurred occasionally at first causing head injuries to happen more frequently to others unexpectant of the sudden failures. now, it fails everytime the gate or rear hatch back is used. *tr

Passenger door slider jams and sticks when using keyless entry. first repair 2009 @ 39000 miles. rollers replaced. this caused problem to worsen. modesto mistlin honda has not been helpful with the issue. *tr took it in again dec.21, 2009 and so on... being this is only vehicle i had to put up with issue. repairs have been made repeatedly which has caused problem to become worse. 2013 door will not open. this is a major safety hazard! have it in shop now in fremont honda.

In the summer of 2009, my 2006 honda odyssey developed a strong, foul odor for which no source could be found. i vacuumed the carpet, left containers of baking soda inside, and even threw away the rubber floor mats, thinking they had deteriorated in the summer heat. the odor did not go away. (the car had been garage-kept until around that time.) in 2010, when taking the car for a routine service appointment, i asked the service manager to check for the problem. he wanted to replace the cabin air filter, which i had already done myself. in september, 2011, after hurricane irene, the tailgate hatch would slosh and spill water when opened. this past week, i went to drive the car on an extended trip. when i went to lift the rear seats, which had been folded into the cargo area, to the upright position, i discovered that the seats were covered in mold and rust and were dripping with water. the cargo area carpeting was saturated. upon researching this problem on the internet, i learned that this has been a problem since at least november, 2010. besides the heath risks associated with exposure to inhaling mold, the rust may have compromised the integrity of the hardware securing the seats to the floor, to say nothing of the cosmetic damage to the leather of the seats. *tr

I have a 2006 honda odyssey ex-l van. i now have 101,000 miles on it but ever since 48,000 miles, i have had difficulty with the driver side sliding door. it started with the buzzer going off as though we had not shut the door. the interior light was blinking on and off and it showed the door was open on the dash. we tried shutting it manually and with the automatic switch to no avail. we followed a protocol off the internet that involved several steps that got it to stop but at random times it would happen again. i had a friend who is a mechanic look at it and he suggested replacing the electrical components involved at great cost. the dealer finally told me there is a switch on the dash to turn off the buzzer but the door does not shut all the way. the back of the door sticks out a bit and makes it so it won't lock. two other people i know have the same problem with their van and had it fixed at great cost. given that the door is not all the way closed, it concerns me to no end when i have passengers on that side. the indoor light continues to come on as well. i have seen several complaints about this on several blogs. it seems to me this should be a huge safety concern to honda but they have been aloof about fixing it and don't believe they are responsible. *tr

2006 honda odyssey, electric side door remains ajar will not close therefore driving with a door that will not close properly, after speeds above 100km and i open front windows in front it seems the side door closes, don't know if this is caused by vacuum suction? however this past week door opened by itself while on the road? thank god no one was in back while driving.. *tr

My 2006 honda odyssey door had been malfunctioning for a few months when i took it in yesterday to have it looked at the honda dealership. when the automatic reversing mechanism kicked in the previous night, a roller bearing snapped off. i showed the broken bearing to the service manager, but he said he couldn't fix it. the service manager told me to use the manual override. when i got back home, i put my daughter into the middle car seat and could only open the sliding door half way manually. i closed it manually and reopened it and the door fell off smashing into my knees pinning me against the adjacent car, and i required assistance to remove the door from my body. the door had to be secured with ratchet straps and towed to the dealership. this is the second time i've been injured by the door. *tr

Well, i'm owner of a vehicle that i recently bought. i noticed that the car has to different shades of color, and i think that this car has been damaged. i would like to find information about it. *tr

On separate occasions my son and daughter have had there hand caught in the electric sliding door on our 2006 honda odyssey minivan. the electric door boasts of a auto reverse feature when it encounters resistance. this only applies to the latching front side of the sliding door. there is no such sensor on the rear side of the door. in addition, the rear side of the door is right next to the middle and rear seats. (very easy for the child to reach even when properly seat belted in). in the latest incident, my son's hand was bruised. if a larger bone or even a neck were caught, it would be broken or worse. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the heater was not working and she took the vehicle to the dealer. the dealer discovered that the heater pipes contained mice droppings. the dealer cleaned the heater pipes and air way four times, but they could not correct the defect. she found that the pipes were made with a chemical that attracts mice, which contracted an airborne bacteria. her two children were treated for the bacteria. a report was filed with the manufacturer and they stated that it was due to an environmental issue. they further stated that nothing could be done to remedy the issue. the failure and current mileages were 54,000.

My 2006 honda odyssey's rear spoiler flew off the back of the vehicle while driving along an interstate narrowly missing the vehicle behind me. the spoiler apparently broke due to normal use while the vehicle had some ice on the roof. the extended warranty coverage i purchased denied coverage. i paid to replace the spoiler. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. while driving 75 mph on a windy day, the contact heard a rattling noise. the noise intensified to a thumping sound and the contact pulled off the road. he discovered that the rear spoiler was hanging from the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the hooks failed and the spoiler could not be defective. the current mileage is 12,780 and failure mileage was 12,400.

Internal door handles on the sliding doors on the 2006 honda odyssey frequently stick. consequently the automatic side sliding doors don't fully latch or securely lock. this still is a persistent problem on a vehicle that was purchased brand new. the issues were brought to honda's attention during the warranty period. they attempted to solve the problem with additional lubrication, but the problems still persisted. now once the vehicle is out of warranty they have informed us that they are not going to do anything further to investigate the cause, or to eradicate the problem (as of about 12-10-09), and thus we now bear full financial responsibility for any and all repairs. *tr

Front door detents to hold door open the slightest breeze or angle closes the door on your leg or hand

1. interior vehicle lights seem to indicate exterior lights are on when they are not. exterior lights are off at night time. the inability to detect exterior lights are on at night. 2. exterior imitation chrome peels off cheap plastic. 3. poor steering quality for a new vehicle. *tr

2006 honda odyssey. air conditioning condenser damaged by road debris and required replacing the condenser. dealer stated damage was caused by road hazard/debris and so was not covered by warranty. the condenser is very exposed on front bottom of vehicle with no protection from flying debris. similar event has occurred to many owners of 2006 odysseys. honda should be held liable/responsible to provide a product to protect the condenser on this model. the 2008 odyssey comes with a grill covering the condenser. so it is obvious they are aware of the old bad design. *tr

The paint on the front and rear bumber is of poor quaility on my silver 2006 odyssey. the slightest touch by another car and the paint comes right off. i don't see the same problem on other makes of mini vans. my car is one year old but the bumpers look like a 5 year old.

My family owns a 2006 honda odyssey. since 8,000 miles on the vehicle we have been asking for warranty work on the sliding doors. the rear passenger electric sliding door does not close on an incline due to mechanical failure. we have to drive to a flat area with the door open and the kids in the car to get the door to close. honda has attempted to fix it 6 times unsuccessfully. it hasn't worked since the car had 8,000 miles and now they don't want to cover it under warranty even though its a safety issue. *tr

I recently purchased a 2006 honda odyssey van. while exiting a parking lot, i drove down an obstructed angled driveway to exit to the road surface and heard a scrape and crack underneath the front end of the vehicle. after looking under the vehicle i discovered a plastic shroud covering the bottom of the engine compartment was ripped loose. furthermore, it is continuous with the front bumper assembly which was cracked. surprised at how easily the damage occurred, i measured the distance between the pavement and the under surface of the plastic shroud to be just 5 1/2 inches. i feel the ground clearance of this vehicle is a safety hazard as any minor road debris or uneven road surfaces could cause significant damage to the drive train and front end assembly. *jb

Passenger side rear power sliding door does not lock in place and has opened while driving ! scaring my family while riding in it. it is presently in the dealership for the first time. we purchased this van one week ago. an internet search shows the many owners affected by this same problem. *jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. the contact stated the driver and passenger's side sliding doors would open independently while driving at various speeds. the sliding doors also would not close when the contact attempted to close them. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis numerous times. the contact was unaware of the repairs performed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 3,000. *tr
