We have classified the 10 complaints from 2006 Honda Odyssey about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
Driver side power sliding door fell off. had just parked. no previous issue, just came off the tracks and fell on me as it opened. very alarming as my toddler was sitting in there in her car seat. i've now had to wait in 108 degree heat waiting for a mobile mechanic. this seems to be an ongoing issue with all odyssey's and really needs to be recalled.

The 2 sliding doors open while the vehicle is in motion. this should not happen. the door closes and latches but becomes unlatched when driving at any speed. this is a safety issue. i have read about many other owners who have the same issue online. when we contact honda they say it is not their problem and they won't fix it without me paying for it because my van is out of warranty. please look into this because it is a safety issue.
The back doors in the car do not latch properly. one door opens while driving and the other only latches on one side.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. while the contact was loading the trunk, the hatch slammed down without warning. the contact stated that the rear struts that held the door suddenly failed and had to be manually opened or closed. the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 135,000.
This van has been a frustrating nightmare. besides the pax system tire issues, we have had to fix both sliding doors because they fell off. last summer the door wouldn't close, then it fell off the track while i was out shopping with my kids. my husband came with some tools and helped to get it closed so we could take it to the auto shop. it was an expensive fix not to mention the damage to the exterior. yesterday while i was at the library with four of my children ( 8,6,3, and a baby) the other door came off the track. this time, my husband was not around to come help us ( he is deployed serving in afghanistan). we had to get the van towed, and the door stayed open all night because the shop was closed. while there, one of the men working said he is having the same problem with his odyssey. looking online i see this is a common issue because a piece was made with nylon ( to reduce noise) when it should have been made with steel. there is obviously something wrong with the hardware on this. honda needs to fix these, instead of leaving the burden to rest on the consumers who purchased these pieces of junk. what a frustrating situation!
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. while the vehicle was parked, the sliding door cable fractured and the door detached from the vehicle. the contact called an unknown dealer, but no assistance was provided. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but did not assist. the failure mileage was approximately 162,000. the vin was not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the third row seat was rusted and the frame was bent. the vehicle was taken to southeastern honda (located at 3125 dixie highway ne palm bay, fl 32905) where it was diagnosed that the seat needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 171,000.
Passenger side sliding door does not open. if opened does not close at the first attempt, it takes atleast 3-4 attempt to close or open. sliding door light is on.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the passenger side sliding door suddenly detached from the rails and separated from the vehicle. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 160,000.
The sub-frame, rr assembly got so severely corroded that it has cracks and fractures and now there is a small hole in it which is deemed as a safety issue that we can't even drive the vehicle. the cost to repair it is more than half my vehicle value at this point. what is pretty interesting is that the honda dealers don't stock the part (50300-shj-a01) and can't really say if or when they can get the part. more than a couple of them have told me that they've never ordered this part before, which leads me to assume that this could not be a normal wear and tear failure. i called honda and they will not rely on a 3rd party (my trusted & reputed local mechanic) opinion and would like me to take the vehicle, most likely tow it, to the dealer at my expense and get it diagnosed at my expense, which my mechanic has already done. that seems unreasonable to me. can someone help me resolve this matter? this happened when my car was in for an oil service and the technician happened to notice the crack in the part. the reference number of my conversation with honda is: 05223162
Interior water leak from roof panel side curtain airbag. this is not an accident. i bought this vehicle on june 28,2016 from a dealer. it is a used car that is not warranty from the dealer. but when it is raining, water leak from roof panel side curtain airbag.
The paint is peeling off from the hood, side and the roop. specially, last sunday, we had a heavy rain and the snow. after that day. the peeling part totally peeled off. it looks bad(gross).
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 10 mph, the rear passenger door slid open independently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not provided. the approximate failure mileage was 132,000.
For starters i had transmission rebuit and its needs replaced again this is at 120000 miles then at 135000 miles. i havent got it replaced yet, but my mechanic gave me the warning. also said all odysseys transmissions fail.like its a ongoing problem. number 2. my passengerfront door gets stuck and you cant open ot even though its unlocked. 3..the middle seat second row the small seat that unlatches, unlatches while driving.
There is rust over the rear wheels on both sides. i have seen this on almost every single similar honda odyssey, same model as the 2006 model i own. the rust is on the body panels immediately over the rear wheels, on both the driver's and passenger sides. this has happened gradually, and occurs on no other part of the vehicle, so it is a quality control issue.
Takata recall. my honda van has been losing paint for about 2 years now and its getting worse. i have big spots on my roof, hood and sliding doors. i would like this issue fixed asap.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the passenger sliding door seized, preventing it from opening or closing. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 151,000.
My 2006 odyssey was hit on the passenger 2nd row by a vehicle that ran a stop sign and sustained significant damage to the 2nd row passenger side. the impact caused the odyssey to spin and was pushed at least 20 feet before being stopped by the curb. my wife was driving and she sustained minor injuries- no one was in the 2nd row thankfully. when i viewed the condition of the vehicle, there was no question in my mind that the side curtain airbag should have deployed. however, after inquiring further to verify this assumption, i discovered that no airbag was deployed. i was shocked to learn this. the side curtain airbag should have deployed and did not. i consider this to be a malfunction, and i am informing you of it as such. in my opinion this is a matter of public safety because a side curtain air bag should deploy when vehicle is hit hard and directly on its side. i was left with the thought of why do they even install these if it does not deploy in this type of accident. i can provide pictures which substantiate the force of the impact and damage sustained. thank you. *tr
My 2006 honda odyssey went up in flame, while i was driving the vehicle, on 10/11/14. insurance had me tow it to the honda dealer. after honda having the car for 31 days the insurance paid the repairs & i paid my $500.00 deductible. i'm ready to drive my honda odyssey away on 11/13/14, and i notice the van began to shake violently and the rpm's dropped to almost 0. no report was given to me about what was wrong with van & what future repairs had to be done. all i got was the present repairs due to the fire, even after we had asked them to do a full inspection of the vehicle. prior to the fire the van never shook, it never had this problem before. while there, they performed the changing of the fuel pump which had been recalled by honda, but now we can not be sure that it was done nor can we be sure that it didn't affect the cars status now. honda still has the van in their lot & insurance adjuster went to see the car and now honda is saying that the shaking of the car has nothing to do with the fire. according to honda's final report the "probable" cause of fire was in the alternator area -sub-cord alternator to fuse box. honda said the shake is caused by the rubber motor mounts. i tried to tell honda they are rubber pieces and when rubber comes in contact with heat it melts. honda will not fix without me paying out of pocket. if the problem really is the motor mounts, i have researched that many people are awaiting a recall from honda on the motor mounts for the fact that theirs prematurely fails. honda has us on a back and fourth. if they can't be sure what caused the fire and are disregarding the motor mounts going bad due to the fire or the fuel pump recall, then how can they be sure that none of the above is not causing the violent shake on the van. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. while driving at 15 mph, the rear driver side door automatically opened. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 77,000.
Motor mounts got broken and are bad designs from honda. the cost to repair is very expensive. and it is a safety hazard. poor quality from honda. *tr
When i was on vacation with my family, the driver side passenger door would not close. it would close partly, begin beeping and reopen. we had to keep pressing the control to close the door until it finally closed. two days before that, the liftgate struts failed. that is disturbing when i think about how my daughter was helping me get items out of the back. we could have been seriously injured. thirdly, the paint is stripping off on parts of the body. considering the reputation that honda is supposed to have, it is upsetting to have this many problems with an 8 year old vehicle! now we must decide if it's worth fixing and keeping or trade it in for a toyota. in looking at the other complaints, it is obvious that there are problems with the vehicle that needs to be addressed but are not being addressed. how seriously does someone have to be hurt before someone pays attention? *tr
Hood paint is pealing off in sheets. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. the contact stated that while traveling 55 mph, the rear passenger door opened. the vehicle was not repaired or diagnosed. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was unknown. the vin was unavailable.
My 2006 honda odyssey has 4 broken motor mounts! extremely expensive to repair. this will be the second time this vehicle gets 4 new motor mounts. *tr
After opening the rear hatch the strut(s) failed and the hatch slammed shut. fortunately, no one was in the way of the hatch when it slammed down. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the driver and passenger side automatic sliding door would close but would not engage or lock. the contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 99,000.
The van vibrates horribly due to a faulty rear motor mount. it is clearly a default in manufacturing. i was also referred to mention complaint# 10425453. *tr
When we took delivery of our 2006 honda odyssey on january 21, 2014 the right hand door was not opening/closing properly. the sales personnel said that it could possibly be weather related and to give it some time and that if it continued to not work properly then to bring the van back and they would fix it. we had just undergone an ice storm here in michigan, in december 2013, and had unusually cold temperatures which stayed until early march. i contacted the dealer after the weather had warmed a bit and told them about the door and they said that the van was out of warranty but that they would work on it as a good faith gesture. the van was taken in and the center roller assembly of the right side sliding door was replaced. the door worked properly for a couple of weeks and then started to not work properly. the symptoms the door was exhibiting were that of a failed release actuator. i have found through research that this is one of the most common problems with the 3rd generation honda odyssey vans and when i contacted the dealer regarding this issue they said there was nothing they could do unless i was willing to pay for it. they had even noted it in the van's service record that the release actuator might have to be replaced but elected not to do it at the time they replaced the center roller because the van's door tested ok. *js
Van has manual sliding doors. upon shutting passenger side door normally the door would not open from either the interior or exterior. child safety lock was off. lock mechanism works normally but door latch will not disengage. six months later at 172000 miles the driver side sliding door experienced the same failure resulting in a seven passenger vehicle with no egress for passengers in case of emergency. upon removal of interior door panels it is clear there is an internal failure of the latch mechanism. all cables and controls work normally but the latches have failed. *tr
The trunk does not stay open. it almost caught my arm and hand. *tr
Rear door liftgate failed, rear door would not stay open and slammed down on my head/torso while trying to remove items from the back. *tr
Power tailgate opened and came right down hitting my wife. she was not hurt. when we purchased the honda we were told this would not happen that there was a safety system that would make the tailgate go back up if it came down on a person or object. which is what it has done in the past. we have an appointment to take the car into the dealer honda of sumner at 7:30 am on 8/12/2013 to have them look at it. we took it into today and a guy ( not a service guy looked at it and said he didn't know what was causing the problem.) i did some research and it appears to be a tailgate strut problem which i understand is a recall on 2008-2009 models. action number ea08-015. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. the contact stated that was attempting to close the rear passenger sliding door, the door failed to close. the failure recurred twice. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed the door needed to be repaired. the vehicle was repaired however, three years later the door failed to function. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 250,000.
I parked my van and opened the manual rear passenger door. the rear door latch would not operate when we tried to close the door. this is a significant safety issue since i have a 9 year old son who rides in the seat adjacent to the defective door. i took it to the honda dealer and was told that replacing the latch and also the defective roller arm would cost $296. *tr
Honda has a known issue with the paint on at least a dozen different models and years...except mine. the paint on my hood and roof started chipping and peeling away a couple of years ago, and now it's spread to many of the fender seams, as well as seams and joints on the roof. while it's "only paint"...we all know that rust leads to structural integrity issues, holes and can allow water and elements in to damage the engine. so, this is a safety issue as well as a "visual" issue. i'd like honda to address this for our car.
The problem is whit the paint. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the rear sliding doors failed to close. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the sliding doors were repaired, but the failure recurred. the specifics of the parts replaced were unknown. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 126,000.
Have had two honda odysseys (one new 2008 and one used 2006). both had issues with the right and left rear automated sliding doors. the new van had this problem much less than the older one, but both have had multiple occurrences of this problem. the problem sometimes come and go sporadically and sometimes needs to be taken to the shop to be fixed. the door usually shuts, but then pops open just enough that it is not fully closed. sometimes they will not latch at all. i thought that this was just "our luck" but after looking online i realized that this is obviously an ongoing major safety issue that is well known on the web. in our families case, i can say that the incidences were not related to anything that could have been done to "break" the door. i feel that if indeed this could be labeled as a wear and tear issue that this is an unacceptable safety issue that needs a widespread permanent "fix" from honda. *js
The driver side passenger sliding door would not latch. we were told by the dealership to turn it on manual so we could drive it with out hearing the door alarm. we were told that it would be safe to drive while one manual. while driving you could hear the door trying to latch auto even when it was set to manual. when i was turning a corner the driverside passenger door popped open and slid all the way open. we had an issue with the other sliding door last year and the dealership ended up replacing the latch on that door but the door never opened all the way. i would have though there would be a safety mechanism in place on those doors to prevent it from opening while driving but i was wrong. *tr
The power lift gate fell down on me; luckily no one was directly under it when it fell. it happened instantly; when i opened it up, it crashed down the first time. upon further attempts to open it, it would slowly open and then jerk and then go back down. it will not stay open by itself. the local honda service center inspected it and said the struts had gone out on it and replaced them both. according to news feb 21, 2012, honda odysseys are being recalled for the same issue in march 2012; my 2006 model has done the same thing the news articles report. *tr
The struts on the liftgate of my 2006 honda odyssey lx completely failed in november 2011 at around 40,000 miles. thankfully, this happened as i was opening it, so no one was underneath it yet. the liftgate is extremely heavy and could have caused serious injury, especially to a small person. we replaced the struts with new honda parts purchased from the same honda dealership where we purchased the vehicle. it is now april 2013, not even a year and half later, and the replacement struts have also failed. i called the dealership, and they have no advice on what to do from here other than replace the struts with the same part that has failed twice now. i've seen numerous reports online about the same issue with the same vehicle. given the track record of the liftgate struts for this model, i think it's pretty likely this will happen again, and i fear that i or someone in my family may suffer serious injury or worse. other model years have been recalled because apparently the pressurized gas leaks from the struts. i think the 2006 has the same problem, and a recall is in order. these struts need to be replaced with ones that don't leak. this is a serious safety issue. *tr
Passenger side sliding door failed to disengage the lock. had to take to the dealer where they removed the door panel and replaced the latch. since the door would not open they had to do this from the inside of the vehicle. on 9/1/2012 the driver side sliding door also failed to disengage the lock. i have not had this repaired yet. i believe this is a safety defect. luckily both times we were parked, but if it had been an emergency valuable time would have been wasted in trying to get a non-functioning door to open. *tr
I have 2006 honda odyssey exl, but its liftgate struts failed. i almost got injured because of this. *tr
I have replaced the both the right and left liftgate struts on our 2006 honda odyssey. now the right replacement strut has failed. that's three failures in under two years. surely there is a problem here judging from all of the similar complaints. this problem needs to be addressed before someone or someone's child gets seriously injured! *tr
Trying to close the rear passenger-side automatic sliding door, it would close half-way, start beeping and open up again. it would do this over and over again, until it finally closed several tries later. turning the automatic function off would not help. when putting it on manual function, the door would jam and literally not budge. this happened several times before it just stopped working altogether. the last time we attempted to open the door, it ended up remaining open for the entire day because it was literally jammed in the open position. thankfully it was in our driveway! we haven't opened it since. moving forward to last month, november 2012. the driver's side automatic door started squeaking upon opening and closing. a week later, it too was refusing to shut. this time i was at a grocery store and ended up stranded in the parking lot with my 6 year old for over an hour before i could finally get the door to shut. it is winter and thus, very cold these days. i am now having to load my kids in the van from the front passenger side door or through the trunk. i don't dare open either automatic door. unfortunately, i have seen this exact scenario with too many other honda odyssey owners. this has the potential of being a major safety issue, depending on where people are when the doors refuse to close. not to mention the potential insurance liability if the doors refuse to close and one is left with no choice but to leave their vehicle wide open for any length of time. *tr
I brought my 2006 honda odyssey into the dealer for a brake master cylinder recall. unbeknownst to me i was informed that 2 motor mounts also needed to be replaced at the cost of $1350. the service manager explained to me that this is a common issue with the odyssey and not part of regular maintenance. an online search reveals that many other owners of this van are experiencing the same situation. i thought honda was known for safety but it appears it has also earned the reputation for defective motor mounts. at what point will honda be held accountable for an obvious design flaw that jeopardizes the safety of its riders? my van has less than 60,000 miles and is just over the 5 year mark, so it is not covered under the warranty. as long as honda is allowed to defer the cost of this repair to its owners it will. hopefully it won't take someone to be seriously injured or killed before the appropriate action is taken. its pretty obvious a recall is long overdue. *tr
My 2006 honda odyssey (with 45000 miles) rear lift gate supporting strut(s) failed and the the gate became so heavy. luckily the failure happened when the gate was closed. if the failure occurs when the gate is open, someone may be injured. however, i did bump my head when i put a post to hold the gate while removing items from the vehicle. i accidentally hit the post and the gate fell and hit my head. the key point is that honda should replace the struts with a heavier duty parts so no one will get hurt. *ln
