Problems with 2015 Honda CR-V ENGINE

On average, the 2015 Honda CR-V starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 9 686 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2015 Honda CR-V

Serpentine belt broke at just over 38,000 miles. i had just gotten off i95, no lights on the dash , nothing unusual happening. upon breaking to slow down, there was a bad smell and then smoke. this was in less than 1 block from the exit.

I was driving car on city street about 40 miles hours, tried to accelerate twice , car started slowing down . the third time i tried to accelerate. the car finally begin to accelerate. the second time was driving on city street and went to yield right of was before making a right turn . i slowed to yield then accelerated the car stalled as it was stopped. i tried to accelerate again and then the care accelerated slowly. another car came through red light and was right on my bumper when my car stalled. this is very dangerous.

My problem with my honda crv happens first thing in the morning but intermittent. so when backing the car out of garage it will feel like it's gonna to stall or shake sometimes stalls car or almost stalls. i have taken the car to dealer but unable to duplicate problem. my first time to dealer and told them of problem was told honda was aware of problem and i would be contacted once they had a fix. i'm still waiting. i also bought to other dealerships and no luck. i still have vehicle warranty and hoping to get problem fixed. thanks for your time, corey

The motor stalls when making pulling away from a dead stop. i have noticed this in particular when making a turn from a dead stop. it has almost got me hit a few times and this has happened numerous times. i contacted my dealer when this first happened and they said it needed a software update which they did, it didn't fix the problem. it doesn't do it all the time as it is sporadic but when it does do it it makes it very dangerous when making a turn and oncoming traffic is coming towards me. honda will not address this issue with this vehicle for me.

When i slow down and stop the car, engine shuts off.the rpm drops and engine shuts off.

The car stalls while moving slowly in reverse. this is dangerous in two ways. way one, while moving in reverse the car stalls, and thus i stop moving when i and the people around me thought i would continue. the second way is i often end up reversing more quickly when i feel the car beginning to stall, this keeps the car from stalling but causes me to move in reverse faster than i would like to. this usually happens when the car is started from a cold start (after sitting overnight). . this issue has been happening to me for at least half a year. not every time i start the car, but at least once a week. i bought the car new in june 2015. also in general the car shudders significantly while idling in drive. i fear that soon the car may start stalling in drive as well while it is idling. many people report these same issues online, and a recall should be done before the problem gets worse as the cars age.

Takata recall 2.4l vtc actuator replacement i have had a few hondas with this engine it is very common in this engine the vtc system relies on proper oil pressure and allows the vtc actuator to make continuous intake valve timing changes based on operating conditions. intake valve timing is optimized to allow the engine to produce maximum power. if an error occurs, the vtc system control is disabled and the valve timing is no longer variable. this should be repaired sooner rather than later to avoid a potential check engine light possibly accompanied with rough idle and/or lack of power or stalling

The problem i am facing with my vehicle is when it is motion, sometimes it loses strength in the engine. this also happens when i try to climb high elevation roads. looking on the web i found my issue in the following recall "17v305000" and the description is the following: "the reduced performance may result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash." i have taken my vehicle to the dealer, triangle honda, and i have followed all its recommendations of arrangement which have been the following: replacement of the starter, replacement of spark plugs, replacement of injectors, change of engine oil, etc ... none of the following nothing they have recommended and repaired has solved the problem. i ask you with favor and with great respect that due to the seriousness of the situation, which can lead me to an accident, consider adding my vehicle to the recall "17v305000" because according to the summary of it needs a replacement of the engine. thanks for your attention [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Gas improperly leaking into the oil. my original engine failed with no root cause analysis confirming the problem. the dealership installed a different used engine and after 2,500 miles on oil installed in december 2018, sent the oil to a blackstone labs for testing on feb 1, 2019. they confirmed high levels of gas in the oil. my original engine had a catastrophic failure and it will be repeated again if we cant get honda to own this problem.their response so far is there is no problem. this problem seems to happen during the winter months in the midwest. the first sign is the oil dipstick showing oil levels rising over weeks. the final result from the lowered combustion temperature of the oil is an event which converts the remaining oil to sludge which causes engine failure within a short time frame after the car cools down. it's not clear how the high levels of gas in the oil causes the engine failure or how the oil converts to sludge within weeks.

Vehicle (with 89,000 miles) experienced misfiring and major loss of acceleration while traveling uphill at highway speeds. upon removing the cylinder head, the dealer noticed significant carbon buildup on intake valves and bent valves. owner had followed all required manufacturer maintenance and used top tier gasoline, but kept rpms low while driving. manufacturer's extended warranty initially would not cover despite known carbon buildup issues with gdi engines and lack of scheduled maintenance covering intake cleaning. ultimately, cylinder head and fuel injectors were replaced under warranty.

My car began shaking while i was driving on the highway and shut down as i was driving. was towed to honda, they couldn't find anything wrong, fixed a recall and sent me back out on the road. it then happened a second time, car started shaking while driving and shut down as i was driving on a main highway almost killing myself and others. towed to honda again and they said a gasket should have been replaced and wasn't viewable to the eye, engine now needs replaced. i see other engine recalls on this car and wonder if this is a part of what happened with my vehicle. it only has 65,000 miles on the vehicle and its such a shame that i now have to either purchase a new engine or sell my vehicle. i've been battling that honda shop for months now

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 honda cr-v. when the vehicle was started, a loud sound was heard. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (zimbrick honda, 1601 w beltline hwy, madison, wi 53713) where it was diagnosed that the timing chain tensioner failed. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified and informed the contact to wait for parts. the failure mileage was 31,000.

I had just returned from the grocery store with one of my daughters. we pulled into my driveway and my 2015 honda cr-v ex-l was stopped and my foot on the brake. my car was at a complete stop with the engine running. before i could put the car in park, the engine suddenly revved up to a very high rpm and lunged forward. even though my foot was on the break, i was unable to stop the vehicle and the car ran of two different sets of bushes before running into the southeast corner of my house! the driver's side air bag deployed. my daughter was in the front passenger seat and (maybe luckily) her air bag did not deploy. the airbag may be a tanaka airbag. i hit my airbag with such force that the air began to smoke. my daughter's was injured and she suffered a very bloody nose when her head hit the dashboard. i suffered bruises to my abdomen. the force of the crash knocked the plaster off the inside of my kitchen and threw it 10 feet. the studs were knocked off the moorings. because my house was built in 1929 studs did not brake and the damage was only cosmetic. it is likely that the car is totaled and there will be significant costs in repairing the house.

Car has a ridiculous shake on idle, literally feels as if there is an earthquake going on outside, i found supporting evidence that honda is aware of the issue but somehow honda is getting away with it and everyone in most blogs i've found who own this vehicle are still waiting for help / possible recall announcement from honda. i really hope someone can help us all out as it's a horrible feeling to buy a car then have it do this to you... i feel stuck. i feel sad & bad & depressed. i am keeping myself busy by ranting all over the internet but i would strongly appreciate some help for this unjust issue that honda is apparently ignoring and getting away with it.

My car stalled, it had stalled before. i meant to go in and have the dealer look at it but i did not do that. on april 10 2018 i went to pull out on hwy 78, from my road weekend villa, my car stalled, and i was hit head-on and put in the hospital. i did not realize how dangerous the stalling would be. my son-in-law found this notice on the internet, https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.edmunds.com/car-news/2015-honda-cr-v-2014-15-accord-recalled-to-replace-engine-short-block.html&ved=0ahukewjeqctjtopaahwmtd8khcv5dfgqfghdmai&usg=aovvaw1uchdcc3fcdt0tg60svr0l,2015 honda cr-v, 2014-'15 accord recalled to replace engine short block published: 03/10/2015 - by [xxx], correspondent. washington ? american honda motor co. is recalling 137 2014-'15 honda accord cars with a four-cylinder engine and 2015 honda cr-v suvs to replace the engine short block, according to the national highway traffic safety administration. "the affected vehicles may have been assembled with improperly torqued connecting rod bolts, which can cause the engine to lose power or leak oil," said nhtsa in its recall summary. "loss of engine power may result in a vehicle stall, increasing the risk of a crash. the problem was discovered through a "warranty claim review process," honda said. the affected 2014 accords were built from july 29, 2014 to july 31, 2014, while the 2015 accords were built from august 14, 2014 to january 30, 2015. the affected cr-vs were built from september 9, 2014 to february 6, 2015. the recall is expected to begin on march 27. owners can contact honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. so i checked here and found no recall. will you please advise me? sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Vehicle shakes while idle. dealer is aware of this, but when i took to them for a check-up, they stated "found no issues at this time". i would like this problem fixed as soon as possible!

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 honda cr-v. while driving less than 50 mph, the vehicle vibrated without warning. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 8,000.

2015 honda cr-v has a sporadic problem in gear only at an idle. engine rpm drops by 100 to 200 rpm and excessive vibration is felt. having the vehicle in neutral when this occurs does not produce the drop in rpm. when the vehicle is placed in drive again, the rpm drop continues to be observed. releasing the brake momentarily or moving the steering wheel restores the engine rpm for a period of time. a hesitation off idle where the vehicle almost dies in traffic has happened twice now. dealership has no authorized corrective repairs to perform. tech manager at dealership says that the problem is known and deemed acceptable. have scheduled two meetings with the honda district service manager and she has been a "no show" both times. today i waited for 70 minutes after our appointment time and then left the dealership extremely friutrated. this seems like an engine management issue. why isn't honda taking this seriously? does someone have to be injured before corrective action is taken?

In early 2018, around the 80k mileage mark the oil light came on. the car was due for it's oil to be changed, checked the oil level and it appeared dry. purchased a 5 qt bottle and emptied almost all 5 quarts into the oil tank. the car had been sounding funny for a couple of weeks, but never considered the oil level an issue or the cause of the funny sounds. once i filled the tank the sound disappeared. had the oil changed by the dealership 2 days later and commented on the issue. an oil consumption test was recommended. went back at 1000 miles after the oil change and was told all was fine. skipped further oil consumption testing at this point. at the next oil change (5k miles later) was told my tank was down nearly 4 quarts. decided to go through the oil consumption test again. 1st test, down 1 quart 2nd test down 3/4 quart 3rd test down 3/4 quart. was told by service manager that 1 quart/1000 miles, is considered acceptable my honda standards/policy. a search of the internet revealed that there are many other 2015 honda crv owners with the same complaint with no resolution/satisfaction by honda. this issue with excessive oil consumption may lead to premature wear on engine parts and possible engine fire since dealership can't explain why there is excessive oil being consumed or possibly leaking when on the highway.

Excessive vibration throughout the vehicle while stopped with vehicle in gear. engine/transmission issue

This car is severely vibrating including car back seat, toys/things on car back seat are vibrating and making noise. when i full stop somewhere, transmission is on drive mode. car begins to vibrate too much.

When vehicle is stationary in "drive" gear harsh engine vibration "rough idle" occurs

While in motion on both city streets and highways there is a lack of acceleration when attempting to merge into traffic; at traffic stops there is a lack of acceleration to begin a turn. there is documentation online for some 2015 crvs experiencing this problem. my vehicle has experienced the same. (honda dealer unable to replicate the problem.) it is an intermittent problem, having occurred 5 times in the past year, thus far without incident, but i have been nearly hit twice.

Vehicle vibrates when idle or under 2200 rpm's while driving. this seems extremely unsafe....i recently purchased this vehicle as a cpo vehicle from gwinnett place honda and they never told me about this defect. i am now stuck with a vehicle that is very unsafe for myself and my children.

Recently took my 2015 honda cr-v for another attempt to fix the issue. basically, the vehicle will vibrate harshly and shudder as if it will stall with the rpm's dropping to 300-500. it happens in multiple instances- when coming to a stop/stopped in gear, while on the highway going about 60-70 mph. it feels like the vehicle loses power/is about to stall off. i've been told by honda this is "characteristic" of the vehicle. if that's the case, why didn't they inform me this when purchasing the vehicle? bad move, honda.

When driving and changing lanes, car decelerates and loses speed. almost was rearended on highway due to loss of power. the consumer stated the acclerator pedal does not register for about 4-5 secs, during which time the vehicle decelerates. *js

I have experienced several issues with my 2015 honda cr-v: 1. lug nut corrosion: i have had several lug nuts replaced due to visual corrosion around the welded top to side area of the nut. replaced under warranty @ 36,000 miles. 2. engine / transmission vibration: low speed vibration, i can visibly see the passenger seat vibrate. high speed vibration ~ 70mph, this is felt through the seat and steering wheel. rear hatch vibration (booming) ~ 55 - 60 mph. the dealer has installed countermeasure parts @ 36,000 miles, but the vibration has gotten worse.

Car stalls after shifting into reverse on initial start

07jul2017: sudden, massive acceleration when braking to park' out-of-control slide/skid forward until slammed into park.

Terrible vibration while idling in gear, honda did not inform me of a current bulletin that has been issued for quite some time 15-046 for vibration issues with engine and transmission when i purchase vehicle. i informed them of vibration, they told me new engine style is causing vibration, nothing wrong with car

Excessive vibration throughout cabin. honda service recommended and applied the mod 1 repair. this has only moved the vibration around in the vehicle. now the vibration is much more felt in the steering wheel, the passenger seat and the rear seat. a much more aggressive vibration has now shown up at speeds around 70 mph - though this vibration is much more intermittent. the vibration has been an issue since i purchased the vehicle with 4 miles on it in july of 2015. i went back to the dealer initially and they suggested running the air conditioning or an accessory to minimize the problem. honda was working on a fix. still waiting for the fix and also wondering what serious problems this is going to cause down the road.

I have brought car back 4 times for the vibration problem. last visit the shop finally acknowledged a problem bulletin 15-046. car still shakes when idling

Steering wheel vibrating and turning while in motion, both when accelerating and coasting on any street or speed. odometer 14,000. don't feel i have control of car. whole car vibrating since purchase. airbag recall was fixed.

At an idle position, vehicle starts to vibrate, make a loud noise and starts revving excessively (went from 800 to 2,000 rpms) all the time with my foot firmly on the brake pedal. this has occurred now on three different occasions, 3 times on 2/10/2017.

I was driving down a steep hill about a block from my homewhen all of the "trouble" lights came on. i immediately tuned around and the engine power was so low that i barely made it the block home. i parked and called honda service. whe i found out that since my car had 47,000 miles on it and honda towing would cost $160, i had the car towed by a local service for $100 to the dealer. when i called the dealer on the following monday (it happened on a friday or saturday), they informed me that the mechanics could not reproduce the problem by starting the car. no attempt was made to drive it. the company informed me that there was corrosion between the engine wire harness and the sensor connector. the parts to replace were the crank sensor connector, the o ring, and intake manifold gasket. this cost $1002.

Car has been stalling in motion (especially in areas of higher speed) and the car has been not starting up. we have been on the interstates when the car has gone from 60 mph to stop all at once...almost killing us. in regards to the start up issue, the lights come on but the engine does not. the battery was just replaced and the dealership will not fix these safety issues. in fact, the managing partner tells his staff to ignore our communication attempts and will not return our calls himself. the service manager refused to fix anything because he says there is nothing wrong with the car after driving it around the dealership parking lot once. honda corporate will not fix any issues either. this car is a lemon and has been since we bought it in january 2015. these stalling and startup issues have specifically been going on since january 5, 2017. *tr

At a stop or red light car vibrates crazy. as soon as i accelerate from 0-40 the transmission vibrates sounding like ur going over a metal bridge. i let go off the gas petal the vibration stop i accelerate happens again.

Engine accelerates automatically while leg on brake, which happened at stop light and then at home while parking.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 honda cr-v. everytime the vehicle was started, the contact smelled an odor of burning rubber inside the vehicle. the contact stated that the odor made her ill, which required medical attention. the vehicle was taken to showcase honda located in phoenix, az, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000. updated 10/31/17*lj the consumer stated upon having a recall repair completed the dealer applied a "dressing on interior of car". the consumer requested only for the engine and exterior recall to be completed. due to the odor the consumer went into anaphylactic shock. *js

Honda cr-v vibrates on acceleration from stop to turning right on city street causing driver to rattle/panic and cause the accident.needs help to complain to honda, any legal advice?

While driving at 80 mph on a highway, the check engine light appeared and the vehicle decreased in speed to 50 mph on its own, although i never removed pressure from the accelerator pedal. the vehicle began to stall and pull back as if it were going to die. the vehicle did not respond when i depressed the accelerator pedal and did not increase speed. i exited the highway, applied the brakes, and came to a complete stop, but when i depressed the accelerator pedal once the traffic light turned green, the vehicle would not accelerate more than 20 mph. the check engine light remained on the entire time. i drove the vehicle to the nearest honda dealership. the dealership advised that the vehicle was giving misfire codes and they want to keep it overnight to run tests on it. the service advisor said that the vehicle may have gone into "limp" mode, what that is. this happened while the vehicle was in motion on a highway at 80 mph. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 honda cr-v. while driving various speeds, the engine failed to warm up without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure recurred several other times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer again the second time where it was diagnosed that the thermostat needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. after the repair, the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to the dealer the third time where it was kept for two days. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 6,900.

My honda cr-v 2015 power suddenly turns off, car stalls, red oil light comes, car is still in reverse gear as i was backing out of garage. it had moved about 8 feet. after a moment or two engine light comes on. there is absolutely no power. to restart car i shift to park and proceed. all systems restart and no problem lights turn on. after three occurrences over about two months. i took car to honda service 08/22/2016. they noted they checked "car stops when going in reverse" and could nor get it to fail. they stated they made a system update "16-053 per bulletin pgm-fi software." they did not acknowledge any other safety recalls matching my problem. on 09/18/2016 i experienced the same problem. it was sunday and ray laks, honda was closed. i spent time looking up recalls and found your letter nvs-215sm to honda dealers dated 03/9/2015 which denotes the same problem i had - "loss of engine power while in motion." it would appear to be similar problem. perhaps ray laks, honda dealer, 3590 southwestern blvd., orchard park, ny 14127, 716-824-6300 did not double check my car for that update.

My car vibrates horribly at rest while in gear at a stop light, shakes so bad i have to put it in neutral. something rattles under my tail gate, i had it looked at, they said its a partial recall that hasn't been fixed yet. when i back up and put it in drive, my transmission gargles and my car shakes before it goes. it constantly shakes on the highway, ive had it realigned and tires balanced twice in 3 months. this car is awful.

When backing up out of the garage engine stalls. have to restart vehicle to keep backing up. vehicle has 25,000 miles. no check engine light, honda dealer thinks it's normal because it can't recreated.

Engine stalls occasionally during the period of first ten minutes after it is turned on.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 honda cr-v. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled and all the warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was towed to the dealer, but the technician was unable to duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 12,000.

This car vibrates at low idle. the vibration begins to get worse as the car warms up. stopping at lights while driving through town is embarrassing, especially when i have other people in the car with me. i usually switch the gear into neutral to avoid the shaking but i'm afraid i'll get rear-ended one day if i fail to start driving fast enough

The car vibrates while sitting a a stop sign. it is very obvious and annoying.

I purchased this 2015 honda cr-v brand new. i have taken it to the dealer who stated they have heard of this problem but no bulletin has been formally issued yet. the problem consists of two things but both are engine related. when at a stop after about 5-10 seconds the engine gets a rough idle almost like you think at first it's going to die, but it doesn't it's just annoying. however, here is a real problem. when driving down the road, or after pulling out, changing lanes (really no set pattern) the engine (and acceleration) are gone. it's like you just are without go power. finally it catches up but if you have this happen at the wrong time it could be bad. i have changed lanes and had plenty of space but if your cr-v happens to do this in the process the closing rate is major. the car behind you is on your bumper and fast because it's like you just stop accelerating. this has happened on normal streets, pulling away from stop sign and going down the interstate. needless to say it's really bad if it happens at the wrong place and at the wrong time. i have contacted the dealer again. and, again i am told we do not show anything (bulletin/recall) on it to have a fix/repair in place. i believe honda needs to recognize the issue and find a fix. being the dealer has heard this complaint before at least i know i'm not alone. this is not a problem to be dismissed because a major wreck could be the outcome if it continues. as for when it's happened?? it's happened many times but so far i've been fortunate to not to get hit when my car just decides to go into this serious "sleep" mode. note below i have checked the last date of the occurrence but not to be confused or taken as it's the only time it's occurred.
