I purchased a 2016 honda civic for my son in 2016. i received a notice about ac problems this year. i contacted my son and asked him if he had problems with the a/c. he reported that it doesn't blow very much air and the air never gets cold. so i had him take to dealership. he was told that the recall for a/c affected only one part of the unit which they could fix under no cost...but they said that there was a huge hole in the air compressor and this was not covered. they quoted over $2,000 to replace air compressor. i found this hard to believe and researched to find out what causes a hole in the compressor that makes it beyond repair and the only information i could find were others having the same problem with 2016 honda civic faulty air compressors. again when i tested it myself, it was not blowing cold air and sometimes not blowing air at all. since i purchased vehicle, it seems like system was not fully capable of defrosting windows in front and back and figured the design was bad.
Engine oil level continuously creeping above max fill line after every oil change. note: oil measured at same location in garage and at same temperature, and oil allowed sufficient time to drain back into oil pan.
On 10-31-19, driving my 2016 honda civic 1.5 turbo engine taking my kids to school. car was driving well, until a reach about 1 mile, while making a left turn the car loss power and can only drive up to 15 mph. i have to drive my car back home and get my other car. the honda never regains normal power. the same date in the evening, i drove the honda for about 3 miles around my neighborhood and never loss power. the following date, i drove the car and suddenly again loss power while making a right turn a block away from my house. drove back my honda back to my house with the car never regaining normal power. the honda civic only drives well for less than a quarter mile and then suddenly loss power, especially when making a turn. this is a safety hazard. when the car loss power it only drives up to 15 mph (which takes several seconds to reach 15 mph) and never regain normal power. this loss of power started on 10-31-19, which was a very cool day about 24-degree fahrenheit. my car is not driver able any longer. now that this happen, i research problems with 2016 civic and found out that honda had an issue with 1.5 turbo engine since 2017. one month and half prior to this happen, i took my car to the honda dealer services twice and only want to charge me with things that the warranty did not cover and could not tell me what was wrong with my car. honda dealer should had known the problems my car has are relate to oil dilution in the engine, but decided not to address it. now, i have a car that is not driver able and not safe to drive. honda place my family life in danger, such that the street around our city, cars drives between 55 to 70 mph. this easily could cause a car to re-end or t-bone the car while making a turn on a busy traffic street.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 honda civic. when the vehicle was started, the contact heard an abnormal tapping noise coming from the passenger side of the engine compartment. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who confirmed the noise was coming from the engine. the independent mechanic informed the contact that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed by honda. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the dealer was not contacted. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 16v074000 (engine and engine cooling). the failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
I have issues that have been reported previously and while the vehicle was under warranty. now that the warranty is out the problem has been more severe. the 1st problem is the display for the radio, heating and cooling and the speed display has been effected some but not like the radio and cooling/heating display. it has gone blank, it has froze up. it has lost all functioning. the 2nd is the air compressor. it has a leak and apparently this is an issue with a lot of the tourings. people have replaced them and had the same issues. the displays have had problems both in drive modes and parked. i have googled on how to fix those issues and we have disconnected the battery to do the same. the cooling/heating system cools some times but not all the time.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 honda civic. upon taking the vehicle to an independent mechanic, the contact was informed that the engine was leaking freon. the contact informed atlantic honda (1375 sunrise hwy, bay shore, ny 11706, (631) 665-0005) of the defect and was informed that he would have to pay for diagnostic testing. the contact also notified the manufacturer and was informed that the vehicle was not under warranty; therefore, the contact would be responsible for the repair costs. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 25,000.
My 2016 honda civic ex-t was purchased brand new on 2016. in less than 40,000 miles, my air conditioning unit blows hot air. it is currently in the shop replacing the ac unit. they said there was a leak and i am sure refrigerant is not a safe chemical to be leaking out in the environment.
Takata recall. i've had this car for 3 yrs. the problem with it is that, when i come to a stop while driving it doesn't wanna take off. it hesitates for about 30 sec. the problem is that its dangerous when i turn left it stays in the middle of the st and i can get hit. at one point i had to put it in emergency lights and turn it off and on. then it worked. its been doing it for about 4 months at least twice a day. it started in about april. at first it wasn't that often then it started everyday. it happens anywhere, st highway, fwy, city even when i wanna reverse. im not sure why its doing it i've taken it to the mechanic about 4 times. i do all oil changes everything , tire changes, rotations, the mechanic can't find anything. he even changed a sensor and it still does it.
Ac compressor leaking
Strong fuel smell in the engine along with the oil above the fill line after checking it
When the warmer weather started, i noticed my air conditioning was only giving out cold air on the passenger side. when brought to the local mechanic, they said they could not assess what was wrong with the air conditioner due to the design of the car for that year. i brought it to the honda dealer for repairs on may 20, 2019 where they said i needed a new condenser due to a leak. they could not say what caused the leak, but the honda service representative stayed that due to the design of the engine that year, something as simple as a rock could have easily punctured the condenser. the total amount in repairs was $907 on a three year old vehicle. it was also stated that since this is such a well-known issue, i could not file a claim through my comprehensive insurance.
My air condition compressor is defective and leaking the new very flammable refrigerant r1234yf gas out from the compressor itself. the shaft seal seems to be where it is leaking. this is a known problem and honda should issue a recall to replace all of the defective compressors they installed in their cars.
While driving my 2016 honda ex-t dashboard lights started lighting up -emmision, eps, brake hold, etc the car immediately went into" limp mode" while traveling at 70 on the highway. i am told this caused a turbo problem and the turbo will have to be replaced. while researching on the internet this seems to be a common and reoccurring problem that is not being addressed. since it is a common problem it seems with out honda addressing the problem this will occur again with a new turbo. i am unsure if the multiple warning lights for problems that did not exist caused the turbo problems but it seems likely. since when these lights come on the car is designed to go into limp mode. this needs to be addressed. luckily i am an experienced driver and was able to handle the automatic drastic decline with out breaking while driving and coming to an almost complete stop. had the highway been busy this certainly would of resulted in an accident.
Vehicle was parked on driveway, when turned on it had battery and electric issues (battery just replaced by professional) ac blows out hot air (ac fluid just refilled as well by professional) and back door won't open from inside. car was purchased less than two years ago and already malfunctioning.
Engine stalled at highway speeds was told by the mechanic that scanned the vehicle that the computer needed to be reflashed honda stated no recall but multiple complaints online also on honda mechanic website states computer issue
Motor oil in the engine is being diluted by gasoline. a strong gasoline smell is present when examining the dip stick.
I have a honda civic 2016 and my ac was not working since last year 2018. i took my car to the dealer ship and being told that i need to pay $295 for the diagnosis which i refused to do it. i did some research to see if anyone has the same problem and yess they do and a lot. i took my car to the dealer ship today after i got recalled letter for the condenser. after 6 hrs, they called me and told me that my condenser is good, but my compressor is not and the repair fee will be up to $1200. if i refuse to fix it, i still need to pay $395 for the diagnosis fee which is stupid. i looked it up again and had read a lot of complaint about the compressor. i am paying off my car which i own for almost 4 years and now everything is already broken. this is my first honda car and i regret that i chose honda. i hope honda do some research and read about people complaint and do something about it. never buy honda again.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 honda civic. while driving highway speeds, the vehicle jerked and hesitated. occasionally, while operating the vehicle, multiple warning indicators illuminated, indicating failures with the braking system, steering, and stability control. when the vehicle was turned off and restarted, it operated normally. the failures were not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer and local dealer (apple honda 1, 801 whiteford rd, york, pa) were notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 45,000.
Issue with the 1.5 turbo called oil dilution. china had a recall on the turbo due to the fuel dilution problem (fuel getting into oil). back in september on the way to ohio from indiana civic broke down and stalled while driving down interstate 70, during a rain storm. not a safe situation at all. civic was towed to a honda dealer in dayton. was told oil was overfull and their solution was to drain and fill with proper amount. was told by the dealer they had seen that before. it is coming together for me now when i saw a consumer report youtube discussing this engine issue and this youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j80bfjs-16u. 1.5 turbo is building up fluid in the crankcase like on the 1.5 turbos in the civic. had the oil changed again right at two months later, here in indiana, with likely less than 2000 more miles and there is again buildup of fluid in the crankcase. the oil was overfull as confirmed by the techs at the local indiana honda dealer. this is a safety issue .
Stationary car completely shut down, would not start, battery check ok, could not take out of park, had to have it towed to shop and have tcm replaced and software updated- in motion -steering wheel slips and shakes as well - very disappointed in honda.
I got into the trunk of my civic (keyless) and when i tried to open the car, everything had shut down and it is locked and won't respond to the emergency key or the fob. this began 2 days ago and i see several other complaints o the internet of the same problem. it was parked in my driveway. not being able to get into my car here in the arizona desert could be a serioue problem.
May 2016, i purchased the re-designed 2016 honda civic coupe lx. on july 13, 2018, my ac was no longer blowing cold air. it was luke warm if that. the dealer put dye in my ac to determine any leaks. they assured me that there were no leaks but rather - my 2 year old civic - had a low charge in the system and i was charged $312 for them to recharge my ac. they told me that it was not covered under warranty. i paid the $312. they checked my car again on july 27, 2018 and assured me that there were no leaks in my ac. well, 1 year later my car is back at the dealer for the exact same issue - ac is not blowing cold. i took my car in on june 14, 2019. on june 18 2019 i received a call saying that my ac was leaking in 2 parts - the evaporator (which they told me was a defective part and would be replaced under my warranty) and the condenser had a hole in in. the condenser is not covered under my warranty because of outside influence. so now a $700 bill i must pay. as i have come to find online - there are hundreds of 2016 civic owners experiencing the exact same issue with their ac. the location of the condenser appears to be a design flaw and i now the run the risk of encountering this problem every year because something can hit the condenser as i drive. i don't feel safe driving this car because i don't know if something will kick up and hit the condenser. on june 26, 2019 as they were performing the repair, i was told my entire ac unit is contaminated??? how is that possible with a closed system that i have not touched. last year there were no issues/no leaks - per the dealer. and, now, i need a whole new ac and my condenser and evaporator are leaking!! obviously, there is an issue here. i'm currently waiting to hear from the dealer to make sure this new unit is covered under my extended warranty. all of this on a 3 year old new car!
Engine oil level above maximum level, and the engine oil smells like gasoline.
A rodent crawled up into the engine compartment and chewed up the wires to coil connector. it made all of the dashboard warning lights to come on and the engine was shaking due to the mis-firing coil. it is honda fault because they covered/made the wires with soy, which attracts rodents. my 2016 civic is less than 2 years old with 9,500 miles, honda claims it is not covered under the warranty. honda then, wanted to sell me a $500 engine wiring harness, this is ridicules, because it doesn't resolve the problem, the rodents will be attracted to the new wire harness too. they also wanted to sell me spicy rodent tape for $48, this is a scam, honda needs to fix this problem, they will be losing loyal customers. if this happened on the freeway, it could have resulted in a fatal accident.
Brought 2016 honda civic to dealership with a/c not properly working (blowing warm air), was told prior to drop off that it was likely a stone that hit the condenser causing a leak. diagnostic test cost $135 + tax, was told that it was a stone that punctured the condenser, was assimilated to "just as if a stone had hit the windshield and cracked it, it would not be covered." windshields are designed to deflect debris. this is not covered under warranty, and appears to be a common (previous class action lawsuit was settled on earlier honda vehicles with this exact problem: "a rock puncturing the condenser" due to design flaw). this is absurd to not take care of the issue and charge consumers $900+ for a problem that could easily happen again if a "small rock or pebble" is able to puncture a part. 17,800 miles on the vehicle, 18 months old. if a small pebble can ruin a customer's air conditioning system on a brand new vehicle, which per warranty guidelines is neither an "accident" or "abuse" to the vehicle, is this vehicle even suited to be on the road? very disappointing as i was a life long honda owner.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 honda civic. upon inspecting the vehicle, the contact discovered oil leaking from the engine. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine was faulty. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 27.
Honda use soy on wires because is cheaper than plastic ,but it attract rats and rodents that love to chew on it .witch result in car crash and expensive repairs .i have a new 2016 honda car 6 months old witch i had to pay 1481 $ even though i have a 5 years engine warranty. honda makes money out of those repair an average of 100 cars come to every dealership every year : http://ctwatchdog.com/finance/rodents-damage-cars-by-chewing-electrical-connections-tips-on-how-to-avoid-costly-repairs
Just bought 11months, found engine and exhaust pipe oil leaking, there is a risk fire, honda service person said it is not a issue, only need to change the engine cap. this car only 20000 - mph, and i just bought a new car. i lost $9000. is there any way the government can help me. thank you! ...updated 04/27/17 *bf *as
I pressed my automatic start key from the window of the building , while i was getting ready ,(washing my face, brushing teeth) after a couple seconds later i heard the sound of the alarm , which would usually turn on if there is a hit or impact or loud sound . when i came downstairs, about 5-10 minutes later . i noticed the front window was shattered , i figured maybe one the neighbors was playing ball and hit my window, when i opened my door i realized there was a fire inside coming directly from the dashboard, everything was melted and my dashboard was also sunk in. i checked if there was an outlet connected or usb ports and did not find an answer. i contacted the dealership and they said they were unable to help and only advice that was given was to contact my insurance , they also added they would not be taking care of any damages in the vehicle and that they were not responsible for this and also did not know why, nor were even interested in investigating. the car was in complete park mode, and off overnight. no one deserves to take their siblings to school and instead be welcomed by a malfunctioning defective 2016 year vehicle.
Engine eaten by rats 2 times; engine harness destroyed first time; car hasn't been the same since this; found more rat droppings in the engine; car shakes so bad the rear view mirror is hard to see out of car is not stable on any road; alignment has been done 4 times on vehicle still not aligned; have taken to dealer multiple times they tell me its the road; car does not shift properly; when turn on car it shakes for about 5 minutes until warmed up. i don't feel safe in this vehicle.
My vehicle break some time docent work....lighting is not proper and engine does nice even i do servicing and mention them but it got ignored by service center
Me an my boyfriend almost got into an accident when the engine of our vehicle stopped working in the middle of the highway. luckily we were able to pull over at the last second when the engine actually stopped. we were still in a dangerous area and i couldn't even describe to aaa where were. fortunately a tow truck driver was passing by and saw us on the side of the road and stopped to help us. just to give some back story my boyfriend was reading an article about a recall for the piston ring/clip affecting the engine on the 2016 honda civics and we immediately went to our dealership and had the car inspected. we were told that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle and that there was not a recall on the vehicle. later on warning lights in the car started to turn on included the brake and engine light. we had a worker at autozone check the lights with one of their tools and were told the lights may have been turned off in the initial inspection of the vehicle prior to our purchase. we went back twice speaking to the manager and service team and were turned away with a list of all of the lights on in the vehicle with no remedy to fix any of the issues. when we brought up the recall again we were told our car did not fall under it. because of their negligence i and my boyfriend could ave lost our lives in an accident on the highway. we bought the car may 2016 and the recall was issued february 2016 and was still open at the time of purchase considering the parts to fix the piston problem would not be available until summer. so we were sold a car with an open recall and the issue was not fixed prior to purchase. now i am stranded without a car because the engine has sustained damage due to this issue. i want my money back and i no longer want this faulty and unsafe vehicle, and i do not trust honda to fix the issue. we need your help nhtsa!
Car stalls; with no warning just turns off this happens with no rhyme or reason and has happened multiple times many of which is not documented because it was not taken into a dealer; i could not afford a tow. i have now signed up for aaa and had it towed into a dealer this last occurrence. documented with dealerships on 5/12/16 car had 396 miles on it; 6/3/16 car had 2722 miles on it; 10/13/16 car had 10745 miles on it and this is the time the service department had it happen to them nine times before it suddenly stopped happening. happened going 75 mph going down the interstate. happens when pulling out of a parking lot. happens driving down a city street. have contacted honda corp (case#05150093) and asked for help but have not had a resolution. the honda service department has recreated the issue (copy of service ticket attached) then all of a sudden they could not get it to happen again so they told my son to come get it and drive it until it happens again then call them to tow it back in. this car is unsafe and he could lose his life and potentially many others. please help. i don't want to lose my son or any other life be taken because honda will not stand behind their product. *tr
During cold start up or warm start up, there is mechanical grinding noise. the grinding noise does not happen constantly but at random, indicating there may be a mechanical malfunction on engine component.
We bought this care brand new for my daughter from a honda dealer. two weeks later while my daughter was driving back home from school at an intersection in our neighborhood , engine went from 15mph to 6mph to zero. engine completely failed. later i found out that this model has been recalled for a problem with a piston ring . honda service is telling us the a new engine will be installed on the car, dont know what to do , none of us in our family feels safe about driving this car , because if she was on the highway going 55mph and this happened, it would be a disastrous situation and we are so thankful that this did not happen. honda roadside assistant came an towed the car to service department . this car has 320 miles on it.
I have a brand new 2016 civic 1.5t ex-l with 1,000 miles and a cracked engine block. we noticed the engine oil all over our garage. it's been leaking for a while, probably since we got it, but we didn't realize until today that the oil was coming from our brand new car. after our own investigation, we ruled out all of our other cars and took it into dealership today.
Bought this car brand new off the lot. when car is started, it randomly makes a mechanical grinding noise. it is getting worse with time and beginning to happen more often. i've taken it to honda multiple times and they have even replaced the starter with no solution. they tell me they have no idea how to fix it and to wait for a recall. car is beginning to idle high and jerk back and forth while accelerating in traffic.
Every since the repair of the recall the engine pulls not even an hour after the pick up the car had to go back in the shop for belt repair. it makes noises as if something is loose . i've called several times to speak with patrick never to get a call back. the care is in motion. the smart connection doesn't work it stop recognizing any device
I leased a brand new 2016 honda civic on friday, february 26, 2016 and drove off the lot with 5 miles on the odometer. on monday, february 29, 2016, my car started to shake, the engine light came on as well as other indicators on the car, i was not able to accelerate or properly operate the vehicle. fortunately, i was able to pull over and called the dealer who towed the car to the service department. i am being told that it is a low compression problem in the cylinders and that it had to do with the rocker arm not that it is part of this piston problem. however, i do not know what to think at this point. they are keeping my car until wednesday. i have notified the manufacturer to see if my car was part of the stop sale order. i am concerned because this is a safety issue because i drive my grandchild on a daily basis and do not want to lose engine power and i will have this car for 3 more years.
Today i found out that honda issued a recall of approximately 45,000 model year 2016 civics in the u.s. and canada because the engine can stall while the car is in motion. this is due to a piston clip that was not installed or may have been improperly installed into the piston during assembly. i also found out that honda sent a stop sale notice to all dealers on february 2nd however; my 2016 civic car was sold to me on february 13th from a honda dealer located in phoenix, az. i did contact the dealer and am taking my car in tomorrow but i read that the part or inspecting instruments won't even be available until the end of march. not sure if the dealer will even be able to inspect my car tomorrow but i feel very unsafe driving a car that could potentially have a very serious issue. can't believe honda is putting lives at risk until the new part and inspecting instrument are available.
Took delivery of 2016 honda civic 1 1/2 weeks ago. currently 350 miles. contacted american honda today in regards to piston snap ring recall. currently honda has no fix for vehicles affected. would like for honda to provide alternative transportation until engine can be repaired/replaced or buy the vehicle back since dealers have been forced to stop selling 2016 civics. i do not feel safe driving brand new car any longer. every time i start vehicle honda is putting my life and the lives of everyone else around me in jeopardy!
I purchased the new car on 11/30/2015. since then, it has been driven 22 miles. i learned of recall on 2/9/16 on news. i was not contacted by dealer or honda about it. i contacted dealer on 2/11/16 who in turn contacted honda. being a new car with only 22 miles on it (3 trips--the first being the drive home from the dealership), i requested a replacement. i believe this is more than reasonable.. honda refused. i was advised tools to examine for the problem and repair parts were not available. since the car can not be fixed at this time, it is a safety liability, and honda was not willing to do the right thing, i filed a lemon law complaint with the ohio attorney general. they were of no help with honda now refusing to refund my money or replace the car. to date ( 2/25/16), i have received no recall paperwork from honda. they expect to send it out sometime in march. driving this vehicle presents potential dangerous safety- liability issues for me, my family, passengers and others should it stall, cause an accident or catch fire. i did not buy this new vehicle to drive under these conditions. but since honda announced the recall and stop sales order on 1/29/2016 until now, this is what i face and who knows how long it will continue. parts may be available this summer. what are we supposed to do? this is not the new car experience i expected, and i did not buy the car to be injured, to damage the engine, or be held responsible for an accident with my insurance picking up the tab. i am not the only 2016 civic owner in this situation. why so long to notify us of this dangerous recall to the engine no less? i see honda has indemnified itself. what about us and our safety? i want my vehicle replaced or a refund. i did not buy a new vehicle to repair it with only 22 miles on it. this is far from the typical safety recalls we usually see.
The 2016 civics with 2.0 liter motors have and been put on a "stop sale" are going to be recalled due to the possibility of engine failure, damage, and even possibility of engine compartment fires due to possibly having faulty piston snap rings. i bought one a week before this "stop sale" and i am apparently going to be forced to drive a vehicle that may have a potentially life threatening defect until they fix it which will not be until this summer according to honda customer service. i was given a claim number and i have requested a rental from honda so that i can stop driving the vehicle until they make sure it is safe. "engine failure" on any roads much less a busy highway is dangerous and an obvious major problem, and i am more concerned about what could happen to my toddler if my brand new honda civic dies on me or catches fire. will someone rear end me? will i be stuck in traffic? who knows. i just hope honda does something for their loyal customers who have already purchased this vehicle, considering it's serious enough that it can not be currently sold by dealerships until fixed. .
I was sold a honda civic two days after the stop sale was issued by honda. it would seem the dealer is negligent and should be responsible. honda is going to open these new engines? it would seem the whole car should be recalled.
I was sold a brand new 2016 honda civic the day after a recall and stop of sale was issued. now 5 days later i am having issues with the car. i contacted america of honda and they confirmed my car does have a recall and i provided me with a case number. can someone please tell me who indeed to talk about this issue with?
Piston clip ring recall from honda with no fix until mid-march as told by honda customer service. recall not publicly released by honda at this time. the result of this part failure is engine failure, and/or stalling. it is unsafe to drive this vehicle with such looming and unresolved issues.
I was sold a 2016 honda civic on the day (january 29, 2016) that american honda notified nhtsa of a 'stop-sale' and i am forced to drive a vehicle that may have a potentially life threatening defect until they fix it. honda was aware of the problem, and i should not have been sold a vehicle with a safety concern as great as engine failure.
