We have classified the 109 complaints from 2008 Honda Civic about VISIBILITY into the following categories.
I've noticed several complaints about broken sun visors. my 08 civic hybrid got a crack in the driver side visor. prior to that, it was always very hard to swing the visor to the side or to clip it back in. maybe something was too tight, and that's why it eventually cracked. my dealership replaced it because the car was still under warranty. however, if it had happened a couple months later they wouldn't have. sounds like there's a defect in the visors and honda needs to replace them even if the car is out of warranty. *tr
Over time, the plastic portion of my driver's side sun visor rotted and broke so that the visor is constantly down. because of this, my field of vision is always restricted. if i tape the visor up, frequently i'm blinded by the sun or other bright lights. i have contacted honda regarding this defect, but as yet, they won't fix the problem. *tr
The sun visor on the driver's side of my 2008 honda civic ex-l broke while under warranty and the dealer replaced it. now, out of warranty, the visor on the passenger side has broken. i have not pursued any action from honda, yet. i have been reading on-linethat this is a frequent complaint and i wanted file my own complaint to add to the others. *tr
2008 honda civic. consumer states problem with the engine and brakes *tgw the consumer stated the air conditioner was not working properly for 20 -30 minutes at a time while driving. the ac knob was turned on, but the blower was not working. when the consumer returned to the dealer, she was informed dye had been placed in the ac system and to return in 3 weeks to see if there were any leaks. the consumer returned 3 weeks later and no leaks were found. the dealer advised the consumer that nothing could be done unless ac/heater blower was not working at the time. in december 2009, while it was raining, the windshield became fogged, because the blower was not working. the consumer was able to get to the dealer in time for them to witness, that the ac/ heater blower was not working, but as the technician went to drive the vehicle into the service bay, it began working again. on one occasion when the consumer arrived at the dealer, the blower was not working, but when the door was closed, it began working again. the consumer believed there is a wiring problem. the consumer also stated the engine would surge when the brake was applied. *jb
I've had my civic 2008 sun visor replaced three times. it appears that the sun visor plastic parts fail with heat (hot days). the passenger side just failed again; this is the fourth time. *tr
My 2008 honda civic drivers side sun visor has split and won't stay up so when night comes my field of vision is significantly reduced and hampered. i have read that this is a known defect with honda but nothing is being done about it. *tr
The sun visor on my 2008 honda civic lx just broke; i am the original owner and have about 33k miles. i read that this is a common problem with the civic. it is a hazard as it blocks vision at night time. the cheap plastic material and poor design is shameful for honda. *tr
Driver's side visor popped apart at a seam and now will not stay up. when stuck in the "down" position, it interferes with visibility. *tr
I have a 2008 honda civic. 1 year into owning it, the driver's side visor split on the seam so that it wouldn't go up or down, it hangs down in one position. i got it fixed still under warranty but now just 2 years later, it has split again. i barely use it. it is up while i'm driving (when' it's down, i'm so tall it's in my line of vision) and when i park, i put it down so that i can put my sun visor up. that's it. i called honda and even though this would be the 2nd visor in 3 years, they will still charge $75 for another one. *tr
The driver's side sun visor broke, and now it hangs down. it is interfering with my visibility because it is difficult to move out of the way. moving it to the side helps, but then it reduces my side visibility. *tr
I have a 2008 honda civic. after about 30k miles, the driver side sun visor is damaged. the visor is cracked and the metal stick is exposed. the visor doesn't stay up and has to remain down or else it will hit my head when i drive. i am the only driver and the visor doesn't get man handled. i read on several sites that this is a problem with year make and model. honda will not fix the problem because the warranty expired. this is a safety issue and usually visors don't get damaged that easy. i am hoping that honda will fix it without charging $56 for the part and $200 for the labor. help. *tr
Sunvisor of 2008 honda civic broke and will no longer stay in upright position now - impedes the view of driver. *tr
My 2008 honda civic lx sunvisor split at the "seam." this makes it so that it will not flip back up in the upright position so it just hangs down in my view. i almost ran a red light today because of it! this is a huge safety issue not only for myself but for the other innocent drivers i might harm!!! honda said that it was not a recall issue because there was no safety issue here. they wont replace it because i am past my 36k warranty. i looked online and many other people have had the same problem...multiple times! make honda fix this before anyone loses their life over it! shame on honda for not acknowledging this as a safety issue! *tr
Driver side sun visor split and would not stay up, has now completely fallen off. very unsafe-does not provide blocking of bring sun and impaired vision prior to falling off! *tr
Sunvisor splits due to hot weather. sunvisor will no longer stay up or down properly and causes improper visibility. visibility is a **safety hazard**. problem is common and has been documented for the last few model years. honda will not replace. *tr
Driver and passenger sun visors split open. the driver's side visor broke first while the car was under warranty, dealer replaced it for free. the passenger side visor is starting to split. car is no longer under warranty. dealer will not replace visor then after acknowledging the defect. problem seems to occur in hot weather. *tr
Both sun visors split open. the drivers' side visor broke first when car was under warranty. the passenger side visor broke recently while the car just went off warranty. the visor broke from just normal use. *tr
I owned a 2006 honda civic coupe lx. the sun visor on the driver's side split at approximately 48,000 miles. the dealership reluctantly fixed the visor. i sold the vehicle in 2008. i purchased a 2008 honda civic sedan. at 44,000 miles the sun visor on the driver's side split. this is obviously a design flaw. you would think honda would have corrected this problem between 2006 and 2008! this is a safety problem. the sun visor will not stay up and it continually drops down in my line of view. i am not able to replace because it is out of warranty, and i cannot afford to replace at this time. this issue should be corrected by honda. if i had two honda civics (2006 and 2008), and this problem occurred on both, it is obvious honda has a design flaw. *tr
Both visors in my 2008 honda civic ex model melted or broke and now cannot close away posing as visual impediment. i called a honda dealership to see if they'd fix it because i learned from family members and friends with the same problem with their 2008 honda civics that dealerships in their town fixed it for free. my dealership said they hadn't heard of the problem and refused to repair. *tr
I haven't had a crash or incident (yet) but my 2008 honda civic sun visor just came apart and now it hangs down in my field of view. it won't stay retracted because it is too thick (since the seam popped). this is definitely a safety issue. *tr
I purchased my 2008 honda civic lx coupe on november 25th, 2009. when i purchased it, it had approximately 12k miles. in the summer of 2010, both of my sun visors broke. it appears that the swivel part of the visor wasn't lubed good enough and so it snapped the visors open. it broke the plastic part that help it all together. it has not been replaced. it costs about $50 each visor. dealer refused to replace it because it is not covered under their warranty. *tr
Passenger side visor did not stay up almost causing an accident due to blocking my view. without an attentive driver in the other car, i would have hit them going freeway speed. upon checking on the itnernet, this is a common problem with homda civics. *tr
I purchased a new honda civic sedan in 2008. at around 40,000 miles, the driver's side visor has split apart and will not stay up. it flops down making it difficult for me to see the roads. i have not taken the visor to get repaired, but my research shows that this has happened to several other owners of the same type of vehicle. *tr
The driver side sun visor is damaged. it doesn't stay up. *tr
Driver's side visor hinge broke. *tr
Driver's sun visor will no longer stay up and out of the line of sight. *tt
I own a 2008 honda civic. at around 42,000 miles, my drivers side visor cracked on the top and dropped down into my line of vision. the visor could not be placed back up out of my line of sight. i took my car to the dealer, who replaced the visor at a cost to me (about $100.) because this is an obvious safety issue (obstructing line of sight for drivers), i believe that this problem should be an automotive recall, and that honda should replace visors that fail free of charge. this problem is widespread as there are many complaints about this on the internet. frankly, i was quite surprised that this safety issue was not fixed at no cost to the consumer, regardless of warranty. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda civic. the contact stated that the spring mechanism on the driver side visor was broken. the vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was approximately 30,000 and the current mileage was approximately 44,000.
The visors on my 2008 honda civic lx have split along the top seam which results in both the driver and passenger visors unable to be put all the way up or all the way back. they just hang straight down. this is inconvenient and possibly hazardous since the only way the visors can be put up requires both hands. a coworker with a 2006 civic lx says her visors do the same thing. *tr
The sunvisors bind and split in warm weather, resulting in the visors swinging freely directly in the driver's line of sight. this failure occurs approximately once per year. while under warranty, the dealership acknowledges this is a common issue and replaces the visors. i've had three driver's side visors replaced in under 36k miles. several other people i know with similar model honda civics (2006-2009, lx, ex, si) experience the same issue at the same frequency. *tr
The sun visor has split apart in a 08 honda civic, and it flops down and stays down, in front of my vision out the windshield. it won't stay up, or even pushed toward the windshield; stays down at its lowest point. split apart where the rod goes in the visor. i have seen this complaint in many civic forums. it is a safety problem as it interferes with seeing out the windshield. *tr
Sunvisor defect which causes the sunvisor to obstruct the drivers view. *tr
2008 driver visor broke. this is the second broken driver side visor, i consider this a driving hazard since it impaired vision. the visors should be recalled by honda. i have research online and appears this problem has been going on since 2006. *tr
2008 honda civic - sun visor fails to fold up - hangs down in front of driver creating safety issue. dealer says warranty does not cover visors. second visor fails several months later. visor blocking view could cause serious accidents with injuries. *tr
2008 honda civic ex - both driver side and passenger side sun visors have split and will no longer stay up but flop down. this is a safety hazard causing extreme reduced visibility. the driver side failed at 20000 miles and dealer replaced under warranty. passenger side failed at 40000 miles and vehicle is out of warranty. there are 40 such complaints of this defect on this website. *tr
The sun visor on both sides is cracked and fails to stay up. it makes it difficult to see traffic signals or block the sun from your eyes. it is a driving hazard. apparently, this has been a problem for about four years. they have not changed the design.
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda civic. while driving 25 mph the contact noticed that the sun visor suddenly fell into her view without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer three times where the driver side sun visor was replaced each time; however, the contact continued to experience the failure. there were no prior warnings. the current and failure mileages were 25000.
2008 honda civic broken sunvisor all most cause an accedent. *tr
This is the second time in the last several months that i have needed to replace my sun visors. the first time in june of 2009, my driver side sun visor was melted by the heat, cracked open and would no longer remain in the "up closed position," instead, it would hang in my face, impeding my vision. suffice to say i was not pleased. just yesterday, (9/06/09) the same thing happened but to my passenger side. i have not folded down my driver side for fear of it melting and hanging in my face but yesterday a passenger used the passenger visor and left it in the down position, and the next day it was melted. i am afraid that it will happen again on the driver side so i do not use my sun visor at all for fear of having to spend time taking it to the dealer to have it repeatedly replaced. *tr
2008 honda civic and have had 3 sun visors replaced. they crack and then flop down into the drivers field of view. this hasn't caused and accident but certainly has the potential to do so. dealer claims honda isn't interested in fixing this problem; they will only replace them as they break. last visor lasted 2 months. *tr
2008 honda civic sunvisor split, causing visibility problems. *tr
1.)both sunvisors on my 2008 honda civic si have had to be replaced twice in under one year. the clips break and cause the sunvisors to drop down and not be able to placed back in the up position. 2.) the failure has occurred 2x in one year. once broken the visors have to be taken off in order to see to drive. 3.) both sunvisors replaced twice in under one year and covered under warranty. *tr
Both the sun visors have split open and now just hang down. they will not stay up and are always in the drivers line of sight!! also the road noise in this car is almost unbearable!! *tr
2008 sun visor on driver side failed summer 2009. i have been driving with this issue since then although it is very hard to drive into the sun due to glare and i have desperately needed it. today, 06-29-2011 the passenger sun visor has now failed. so i went online to see if there is a recall and there is none. this is very common with the honda civic apparently and this needs to be corrected as the sun is awful down here along with any road glare due to precipitation. even the warranty replacements are breaking after they heat up. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda civic. while entering the vehicle the contact noticed that the driver side sun visor was damaged. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the drivers side sun visor was replaced on jun 5, 2009; however, within a year the sun visor was damaged again. the failure mileage was 10000. the current mileage is 29000. updated 11/05/10. *lj the consumer stated the passenger side sun visor was replaced on july 29, 2009 and the drivers side was replaced again on october 26,2010. updated 11/08/10
Visor on driver side split open and now just hands. its hard to see out with it just hanging honda civic ex 08. *tr
I have had 3 previous sun visors replaced, when they brake they split and then fall and hang in your viewing area. this time (#4) it was the drivers side. when it split (broke) this time it fell and hit me in the head while i was on the free way, causing me to swerve slightly into the next lane. *tr
My 2008 honda civic, i have to change the visors(both driver side and passenger side) for the third time in less than 3 years. i had to change the visor every year and i had enough of this none sense. i have to drive 20 miles to fix the problem and i just don't like it. *tr
The failure occurs when the car is parked outside and the temperature will rise inside the car causing the sun visor to split apart. when this happens the sun visor will not stay up anymore causing the driver to be distracted with the sun visor moving around. it has happened to my driver side first then 500 miles later the passenger side broke from the same hot weather conditions. luckily my car was still under warranty and it was fixed but other civic owners not in warranty have not been so lucky. *tr
Both sun visors have cracked at hinges. i have to hold visor in place to see traffic light. should visor be placed to the left of me (driver), it has upon rare occasion swung & hit me in the head. this is dangerous & i hope honda doesn't charge me to replace them as by several other testimonies via the internet, others have had the same issue. i believe these visors to be defective & may cause an accident. i recently found out there was a class action lawsuit regarding said visors & honda should do the right thing & replace my visors free, as i have under 10k miles on the car & take good care of it. also, the engine block problem should be made into a recall as again, i've seen several complaints online with this issue. honda gave an extended warranty which will last for 3 yrs after my car is paid off. while this may seem trivial to a huge corporation, it means a lot to those of us on a fixed income. i cannot give you an exact incident date but my car was approximately 1.5 yrs old when the visors cracked (only a month apart). i trusted honda but apparently they didn't wish to share the visor issues with buyers to rectify the situation. *tr
