Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2007 Honda Civic

On january 2nd, 2018 , was driving on a city street to a local aaa approved auto repair care center when the engine of my honda civic became overheated causing fumes/smoke. this could have caused a fire and would thus be a safety hazard. the purpose of taking it to the repair shop was initially just to get a vehicle inspection test/report done for vehicle registration. due to the engine overheating, further tests were done, and replacing the water pump and performing vps coolant system flush was recommended. i had my vehicle towed to my regular mechanic who inspected it thoroughly and discovered a crack in the engine block. online i stumbled across several web sites indicating problems associated with engine blocks with some honda civics. i called america honda who said i needed to take my vehicle to a honda garage to confirm the crack in the engine block. this i did and it was reinspected and confirmed by the honda mechanics that there was indeed a crack in the engine block. my vehicle has been sitting at the honda garage for over three months now while america honda decided how much they can help with replacing the engine. they will replace my engine after my deductible of $2500. i have reluctantly accepted this as it's been a long wait and i need my car back on the road. i understand from american honda that their extended warranty for cracked engine block was 10 years from first purchase and only the first owner would have received information on this warranty. however, i believe that a crack in the engine block that leads to an overheated engine potentially causing a fire hazard should be covered under a recall. american honda needs to be held accountable for this defective engine. they gave me a faulty engine that could cause a fire due to overheating and should replace it entirely at their cost. i am thus making a complaint against american honda.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. while driving at unknown speeds, the contact heard an abnormal clicking sound when the brake pedal was depressed. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that transmission fluid was leaking and the engine block was cracked. the local dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified of the issue and stated that the warranty had been extended; however, the contact missed the deadline. the contact was advised to replace the engine or purchase a new vehicle. the failure mileage was 163,000.

Cracked engine block, just shy of extended warranty. car only has 113k miles. driving home and smelled coolant, popped hood and saw that the front of the block was seeping coolant, no hoses are nearby to cause leak.

Takata recall. the dashboard warning light has been on consistently since 2017 indicating that the passenger airbag is not functioning. the automatic transmission is not functioning properly. when going downhill, the rpm will increase significantly without using the acceleration pedal. both sun visors are broken...each side came apart from the opposite side. the cd player quit working in 2016. the air conditioner quit working in 2016.

I have a rear wheel bearing failing. i have learned of a honda service bulletin (07-055). the honda dealership states that the work has been accomplished. the last step in the inspection/repair procedure (step 13) instructs to: center-punch a completion mark below the seventh character of the engine compartment vin: *slide open the frame number door on the center cowl cover. *use a long punch to reach the vin. (see service bulletin for example) there is no punch mark on my vehicle. if this portion of the process was not completed, how am i to be ensured that the procedure was performed completely?

I was driving my car on highway at 60 mph and suddenly i felt jerk and car was shaking. it was very dangerous to drive. suddenly engine light was on. next day i took my car to my mechanic he told me it is problem with transmission. soi took my car to transmission repair shop. the guy told me that transmission is failed, you can not drive the car. he told me honda has problem regarding transmission, so i called to honda and filed a complain, but they said we can not do anything. you have repair yourself.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. while attempting to shift gears, the shift lever would not shift out of the park position due to a faulty brake light switch. in addition, the rear brake lights failed to illuminate. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 07v402000 (exterior lighting). the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Manual transmission making grinding noise . its hard to shift in to 2nd and 3rd gear . its really dangerous when your in traffic and unable to shift gear . big chances of crash. transmission making grinding noise and it could get stuck if you google these year civics there are lot of people complaining about this issue

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. the contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the vehicle jerked and lost power. in addition, the contact stated that coolant had to continuously be added to the vehicle and the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to multiple dealers, who were unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 78,000. updated 09/03/15*lj updated 09/10/15.*jb

When i am driving my car and it goes into a shift gear it tugs back and forth than it kicks in, in only does it at certain speed than it stops. i want to know if there any recalls on the transmission and if any repairs are being done or have been done. i am afraid that it will just break apart in the middle of the expressway and cause some pileup and my life or others may be in danger. *tr

My son was driving and in the middle of a 5 way intersection car would not shift into gear. my car is a manual transmission car made loud rubbing noise. car was towed to honda dealer. i was told in was a complete transmission failure and need a new transmission and clutch. i contacted honda warranties i bought the car as a certified used honda. it had 100000 mi warranty which i was past. honda advise it was 3900.00 if fix and agreed to pay 1300. in reading all the complaints about the 2007 year i feel they should have paid more. since owning the car i have received notices from honda about engine leakage problem and that engine is covered for 10years, also rear control arms, and i just received in mail a class action law suite about premature break ware. at around 70000 i had to replace motor mounts that was covered by my extended warranty. i also had to replace the rear drum brakes at 90000. i have always driven a manual transmission car i have never had to replace a clutch every and keep most cars for over 150000 mi. and drum brakes should never have gone at 90000. i have to say very disappointed with honda and from reading other complaints on your site there is problem with transmissions on this year. *tr

I live in arizona and my car is immaculate. i took my car in to have two service bulletins fixed: 3rd gear pops out/ grinds and knocking noise from front when turning. i thought honda dealer or american honda corp. would come thru and fix what was inadequately designed/built. the dealer treated me like i was an idiot, and honda corp. said i should have known and reported the problem under warranty. $1700 for 3rd gear, and they denied there was a knocking noise from front end. i didn't even complain about my rear tires wearing badly because they wont wreck my car, like the transmission and engine mount problems. do they think i'll trade the car into honda, so i wont have to deal with the problems, and buy a new car from them? i like my sporty civic, but no, i wont give them my money. very disappointed in what use to be a good car company. *tr

I have honda civic si 2007. i have been experiencing a problem with 3rd gear. it pops out and sometimes it's hard to get it in the 3dr gear. the problem happened more frequently when the weather is cool and it's intermediate. it could happen 2 times a day or 2 times a week depending on the weather/driving time and conditions. i took my car to the honda dealership in mahwah, nj (as i been told car has been taking for the test drive 7 times and total 22 miles on it)and nanuet, ny(2 times total 10 miles) and i also called honda of america to file a complaint about it 3 times(case # [xxx]). as a result dealerships couldn't replicate the problem and honda of america only can advise me to go to the different dealership. i have extended warranty on this car it will expire in august 2013 and as i was told at honda of america it becomes my problem after warranty will expire. this is the worst costumer care service owning a car i have ever experienced, and it's honda. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

The car goes out of third gear out of nowhere. i have had three close calls on the freeway due to the fact that as your accelerating the gear stops working and leaves the car in neutral when you should be going forward. this causes the car behind you to brake suddenly or you to loose focus of what's in front of you since you tend to look down to see what the problem is and do not expect you car to be out of gear. *tr

3rd gear failure in transmission. gear blew out the bottom and top casing of the transmission and destroyed the entire thing. had to have it completely rebuilt (almost $3000). this was determined to be a mechanical failure. prior to this, i noticed the 3rd gear was sticking/failing to shift properly and had the transmission checked and flushed. this only appeared to have masked the issue. after driving for about 30 minutes, there was a loud noise and the speedometer jumped to 0. the car wouldn't move, had to be towed (additional $100) and the repair had to be made. for anyone with 3rd gear issues - please have this checked asap and prevent yourself the extreme expense i had! it appears as if, after searching online, several people are having this issue... *tr

I have a question about the 2007 honda civic, i purchased the car on october 31st, 2011 and i noticed that the front end was making a noise and a vibration when i decelerate. took the car to the dealership and they put new tires onto the vehicle and the problem still existed. over a little time until today, the noise and vibration is still there and wont go away. i dont know if its coming from the engine or the drivetrain. i think its something serious but i cant really tell not being a certified mechanic. is there a recall on something related to the drivetrain/front end or engine problem? *tr

Engine over heated and froze up due to losing coolant through engine block crack. crack caused from defective engine blocks as admitted by honda corp. total loss of power on highway in heavy traffic created a safety hazard to the young teenaged driver. car was bought used on a salvage title and driven a year without incident until this failure occurred. honda will not replace engine still on warranty due to salvage title.

2007 honda civic si transmission repeated failure. third gear malfunction diagnosed and repaired. shortly thereafter second gear malfunctioned ,fixed, happened again exactly as first malfunction with second gear. car at dealer twenty-eight days and counting (may 24-june 22,2011). *tr

I have a 2007 honda civic si, since day one i had problems going into 2nd and 3rd gear's. i went to the honda dealer more then once and they told me there is no problem.... now at almost 48k miles, somethin broke in my transmission while i was driving in the middle of the road and i almost got hit by around 10 cars.... i read post all over the internet but still honda will do nothin about the problem. i even went to the dealer before my warranty was up and still the same thing nothing is wrong.... now i have to look tog et ym transmission rebuilt or look for a new transmission depends if it can be rebuilt... *tr

I had car crash two weeks ago with honda civic exi 2007, during driving past three years i complained in service center few times last year about car stability in turns and after drive test they came up with nothing, it happened with me few times that after taking sharp turn the care swing and the car go out of control. this time i was taking exit from the bridge and turning down to the main road ,i realize that the turn is sharp and i tried to slow down but the care doesn't response instead the crazy movement happened again and this time i was holding the wheel and make strong brake surprisingly the car accelerate and turn back to hit the side steel rail , i couldn't explain to police and all the people passes by the accident shocked about what happened that it seem up normal car response , i was in conversation with friend has the same car and i shocked after i know he has made accident the same way , not only him but in visiting the show room the dealer had the same accident but with jazz car , i realize that honda has serious problem in stability and i urge all honda drivers to take care and drive safe and try to get rid of this car and i urge all concerned person to act or conduct the complain in order to find solution before we honda kill more life's.*tr

2007 honda hybrid ima problems honda update now car really unsafe. never know when hybrid will go gas mileage went from 45 to 32 mpg cant get up to speed at lights tired of people blowing there horns at me. please help us hybrid owners very unsafe car with ima update honda want put it back to org spec. *tr

On my 2007 honda civic hybrid the ima battery will suddenly drop from a charge to no charge. when this happens the car loses almost all acceleration power because the gasoline engine is forced to charge the battery up. this has happened to me during acceleration onto major highways during rush hour which is extremely dangerous without acceleration power. i would like honda motor to address this issue instead of issuing software recalls that do nothing to the car. *tr

Third gear notchy and sometimes hard to engage and/or grinds, this is a safety hazard and should be addressed. honda has issued a tsb, but i have taken the car to two different dealers neither could replicate the problem. *tr

Honda civic hybrid ima no assist or lack of assist and mileage reduction after ima software recall update. i had no issues prior to the ima recall software update performed at the dealer. the car seems to now use less electric motor power to accelerate or to go up hills. this can become dangerous in certain situations. also the car has seen a decrease in fuel economy of 16% city and 24% highway. contacted 2 different honda dealerships and they both said some people have the same issues but honda does not have a solution for them. called honda motor corp. directly to try to get warranty fix or at least for them to uninstall the ima sw update and they said they cannot do that. they will not replace my battery which is still under the 8 year warranty or resolve my sw update issues. it seems with so many people having an issue someone like the government should step in and force honda to rectify the issues for free rather than having people waste their time going to small claims court or filing a class action suit. *tr

My clutch went out on a 2007 honda civic si sedan. there was a tsb on the vehicle and i had called my local service department about it previously with them telling me not to worry about the problem. i live in a cold climate and was in traffic when the clutch went out so it was dangerous in numerous ways. the clutch is defective per the tsb and is a hazard to people when they drive and the clutch might go out. the clutch issue has been on the news and in the paper but no dealership is telling people and no letters have been sent to people to let them know! *tr

I received a letter from american honda corp. stating that i needed to get a software update on my 2007 honda civic hybrid ima battery. i took the car to my local dealer and since the update has been installed the car is dangerous to drive when entering the freeway. the failure to accelerate happens everytime i enter the freeway. the consequences of this failure is that cars behind come up on me very fast and i have no power to get in the flow of traffic. it has little acceleration to match traffic flow. it seems the car is mostly operating on the small engine and has little assist from the battery, since the update has been installed.i called american honda they said there was no problem with the update on the performance of the car and they would not do anything regarding my concerns. i feel this car is an accident waiting to happen. as well ,honda said they will not change the warranty on the battery even though they have changed how the battery operates since they have installed the update. i ask you to consider telling honda to recall this car and make it safe to drive. i want my car to run the way it did before the software was installed. a side complaint is that the good gas mileage i got on a tank of gas as dropped considerably since the update.. thank you for your consideration on taking on this complaint.. p.s. there has been no accident. i filed this complaint so that there is none in the future. the incident date of august 11,2010 is the date the new software was installed in my car. *tr

2007 honda civic hybrid lost electric motor assist power in may 2010 when i was driving up a hill in downtown seattle traffic. took it to honda dealer, who confirmed low power assist and (without conferring with me) reprogrammed the power assist software and pronounced it fixed. one or two days after this service call, i again noticed weak electric motor assist on another hill in downtown traffic. took the car to honda again, and they confirmed that they could replicate the anemic power condition, but said that honda usa says the vehicle is operating as intended with the computer software update, and that there is no more to be done. i said that i had lost confidence in the automobile, since i consider it a driving hazard not to be able to accelerate adequately in some driving conditions. i said that i wanted honda to buy back the car, but the dealer service manager said that honda wouldn't do that. i have purchased another car, but still own the honda civic hybrid; i don't know what to do with it, since i don't feel good offering it to anyone other than honda for sale. *tr

When i am traveling at speeds above 65mph my entire car vibrates/shutters/shimmy/shakes. it is felt in the steering wheel, and shifter, and the overall ride of the vehicle. it only occurs when i press the gas to accelerate. if i am traveling at 72mph and i release my foot from the gas the vibration does not go away 100%, but it's greatly reduced. at 32,000 my tires were completely bald and worn. i brought my car to honda who would not honor the warranty which expired at 30,000. i then took my car to a repair mechanic who told me the he could not fix the camber which was out of alignment. it was the cause of the excessive tire wear and so i bought new tires and had them mounted, aligned and balanced. recently after having a 50,000 major service performed on my car by honda the problem came back. had the right and left inner cv joints replaced and the vibration still persists. *tr

Purchased vehicle in april 2010 (approximately). i noticed car was shuttering/jerking when accelerating, most notably between 1500 and 1800 rpm from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd gears. i brought to the dealer and complained of issue. honda dealer stated that because there was no engine light on and when checked the cars computer did not register any codes there was nothing they could do. they did not test drive the vehicle either. i returned multiple times following this and documented it each time. the vehicle is still running with 80,000 miles on it. i brought it to another dealer recently in md for brake service and told them about the issue and they test drove the car and the technician diagnosed it as a torque converter issue. i am going to take it back to the first dealer i have been complaining to and demand they drive the vehicle. *tr

Ignition key may be removed when vehicle is not shifted into "park." unless the parking brake is engaged, this can cause the vehicle to roll from an apparently parked position, creating a risk of damage to property and personal injury. *tr

I got a new honda civic ex 2007 sedan and performing all the regular needed maintenance and wheel rotation. after driving 20,000 miles, i felt shaking and vibration of the car with lots of noise coming out of the car. i brought my car to honda dealer; the technician checked and informed me that, the wheel cups are unevenly worn due to the defective wheel control arm and improper wheel alignment. dealer said he fixed the wheel alignment and replaced the defective wheel control but mentioned that the noise will continue till the wheels wear evenly (approximately 2months). i drove again for four months with that noise and vibrations, i didn't see any change and in fact the noise has been increased. i brought the car again to dealer and technician verified and said, i need to replace all 4 tires in order to get ride of that issue. i filed a compliant to honda customer service claiming that, the wheels has been premature wear of tires due to the defective wheel control arm from the manufacture. they took week time and informed me that, the tires were not covered my honda warranty and they could not help on this. i argued with the manager who handled the case, the life of the tires was reduced to half because of the defective part from the car,..no use.. *tr

2007 civic si is difficult to shift into 3rd gear and grinds. two attempts have been made to repair the problem by dealer, but the problem came back about 6 months after each repair. problem started at around 8k miles, was repaired then it recurred at around 15k miles. the odometer is now at 23k miles and the problem has resurfaced. the first repair attempt replaced the 3rd gear syncro. the 2nd repair replace the 3rd & 4th gear syncro and shift fork. i recommend honda issue a recall for the 6sp manual transmission on the civic si due to numerous consumer complaints. *tr

I own a 2007 honda civic hybrid. the hybrid batteries discharge in warm weather leaving the car dangerously under-powered. this occurs several times per day and when it does the car does not accelerate fast enough to safely merge onto the highway, change lanes or turn before oncoming traffic. it can be very scary at times. initially the problem only occurred in very hot weather but is worsening and now occurs routinely in regular warm air ' most any time the a/c is used. the honda dealership said they acknowledge the problem but can only say that honda corporate is aware and investigating. safety dictates that this investigation move faster. *tr

Popping noise while turning at 5,268 miles. replaced two tires at 19,785 miles. need a front end axle replacement at 31,839. diagnosed and adjusted torqued rear suspension noise at 60,136. replaced rear upper control arms 61,275. replaced shocks, and cv boots at 61,275. struts were making noise due to cupping. struts were replaced at 61,275. two new tires that were recently replaced were replaced again. both tires were feathered and making noise. vehicle is maintained in good condition and is following the manufacturer's maintenance recommendation. car was aligned as required by manufacturer. however, cupping or feathering of the tires still happened. when the rear control arm was not replaced yet, the rear noise was so loud and driving was bad. the tires felt flat and the shock absorber did not seem to be working. it is very hard to deal with both honda america and kolbe dealer. both companies tried to play ignorant of the issues although they knew it all along. i spent $1,419.11 for premature expenses. american honda blamed the premature damages to me. american honda nor kolbe honda did not notify me of the technical bulletins that were issued. also, just because there is a technical bulletin or corrective action does not mean that the problem will go away. design of the rear upper control arm must be reviewed again and tested for geometry with other parts of the vehicle. honda america should tightened its quality control and quality assurance so that its manufacturing facility will not release cars that have defective parts. honda knew very well that the rear upper control arms have design flawed starting with 2002 honda civic. why are they still using this design? is it because they manufactured so much of the wrong parts? the battery, and water pump pulley were replaced, updated 07/16/12

Honda civic si 2007, problem with the manual transmission, in differential gear and other part in the internal transmission. *tr

Both of my rear wheel bearings failed on my 2007 honda civic. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda civic hybrid. while driving approximately 5 mph uphill, the vehicle became resistant to acceleration attempts with no illumination of the battery warning symbol. the failure usually occurred when driving uphill and had been experienced at least ten times intermittently. the contact stated she received a software update notification letter from the manufacturer but did not have the updates performed. the dealer was contacted and the service manager informed the contact that the update could hurt the fuel mileage significantly. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 20,000. updated 05/04/11

Difficulty shifting to 3rd gear on my 07 civic si. some grinding occurs when shifting at times, other times it pops out of gear. i took the vehicle to honda dealership but nothing was done since they could not replicate what i described the car was doing. whether honda dealership can replicate it or not, this is a safety issue particularly while driving in the city were the traffic is heavy most of the time. *tr

I have owned my 2007 honda civic hybrid for about 21months. i started to have issues with the ima (integrated motor assist, hybrid batteries) last summer (2008) and continue to have issues to date (may 2009). the ima battery that powers the assist motor has been unpredictable and has had degraded performance for the past year causing the car to be underpowered and unsafe to drive on the highway. the ima system routinely fully discharges (especially during the hot summer months in arizona) and leaves the car only to run on the underpowered 1.3 l gas engine. the car is very sluggish, causing safety issues when acceleration is needed in city or interstate driving. my wife drives 3 kids to school (35 miles on way) on a daily basis and is concerned for the kids and her safety on the highway. the batteries also are located under the rear passenger seat. due to the excessive heat the rear passengers (my kids) are always complaining that the seat is warm and that is excessively hot in the back seat since the problem first was observed in last summer 2008, i have taken it to several different honda dealerships. they all state that this is 'normal' operation and unless the service light comes on that nothing is wrong. the service light they are referring to is the p1433 battery degraded code that states to replace the batteries. it seems odd that they wait until the batteries are totally failed and depleted before they will change them. i noticed that honda does have a tsb out covering excessive heat and that it can severely damage the ima batteries. this states that if the temperature is above 150 degrees f that the batteries can be damaged or fail. i know that heat soaking the car for 8-10 hours in the full sun at 110+ degrees (shade temp) can easily heat the ima batteries to very close to 150 degrees. i am highly concerned for the safety of my wife and kids that she drives and others that may be effected. *tr

All 2006-2008 honda civic si (coupe & sedan) models that have experienced any issues related to the 6mt, including, but not limited to, (a) notchy shifting (b) resistance going into any gear (particularly 2nd & 3rd) (c) grinding of any type, in any gear not caused by operator error (d) transmission not engaging into any gear (particularly 2nd & 3rd) (e) transmission kicking out/popping out into neutral from 3rd gear (f) a third gear with an imprecise gate that sometimes allows for the shifter to be unsure whether to engage in 3rd or return to neutral. (g) had your transmission/syncros replaced and are experiencing transmission woes again with the same (or other) gears. *tr

2007 honda civic hybrid very unstable on icy road conditions especially at low speeds when cycling between electric motor, gas engine and completely shutting off. in stop and go traffic if i did not put the vehicle into neutral the car would lurch and lose traction when cycling through drive systems. as a side bar i had 4 new tires installed on the vehicle on january 14, 2009. 12 day prior to the icy road conditions. honda needs to address this issue. *tr

3rd gear pops out during normal driving operations. the gear pops out regardless of rpm, speed of travel, or if the gear is actually pushed in all the way. *tr

I have a 2007 honda civic si. i have approximately 36600 miles on it and i have been having the 3rd gear syncro issue since summer 2008 (i bought the car 2/2/08. when i took my car in the other day to have them address the 3rd gear syncro issue after they took the car apart they told me my clutch plate was severely warn down and needed to be replaced and that it was not covered under my extended warranty. i asked them if this was caused from the 3rd synchro and i was told "no" but i have been reading that it is a direct result. i am not happy with honda and they need to include all the gears synchros and the clutch in the tsb. also the tires wear on inside and i was informed that the si was not included in the tsb because it has a different suspension. *tr

I was shifting easily from 1st to 2nd gear at 15-18mph and approximately 3k rpm. my manual transmission failed at that time, and i lost power-- nearly creating an accident. the failure involved broken teeth of the countershaft and final (ring) gear. this type of failure has been documented previously in many internet forums, but perhaps not formally. honda should have information about models experiencing such failure, represented by the number of transmissions / countershaft / final drive gears sold by their parts distributor. as a physician, i feel that honda should recall these vehicles immediately to prevent serious injury & road hazards from this transmission failure-- raymond bernal, m.d. *tr

While going to my drs. home in tildon park, in berkeley, to get to tildon park, there is a series of 3 hills with stop signs at the top of each. after stopping at the second stop sign, when i pressed on the accelerator, the car would not move, after i let the car roll back and i parked on the curb for 5 minutes with the car idling, finally the car finished going up the third hill and i made it to the drs. house, from the drs house i called the honda dealership and informed them of this problem, plus, when i got to the drs house, there was a smell, like a slipping clutch or hot brakes, i also told honda of this, they made me a appointment for the next day. when i arrived at the dealership, i was approached by a serviceman and he asked me,,what was i bringing the car in for?...i told him about the trans not working correctly, i was told..take the car home, we don't know how to fix that yet. when i got home, i called american honda and i was told..take the car back to the dealership, so a hour later the car was back at the dealership. i told the serviceman exactly where i was when this problem happened, he said he was going to have a driver go up those hills and see if the car will duplicate the problem. i left the car at the dealership for two days. finally i called and was told..they couldn't get the problem to duplicate itself. when to the dealership, i asked..did you go up to tildon park?..i was told yes. two days later i had to go up those same hills again..and again>.the car wouldn't move at the second hill., so the dealership lied to me and again i called the dealership and again i was told..they don't know how to fix it. they think...that at low rpm the battery which runs the tranny does not charge. i've received one phone call from someone at american honda asking me for a opinion, and..he got a earful. but to this day, i have not been contacted about this problem, i don't drive it very much anymore..,. i drive my other honda which is 100% dependable. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. while backing out of a parking space, the gear shifter moved from park into neutral. this failure occurred automatically and without assistance. the rpm's raced to an excessively high rate. there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the failure occurred on three separate occasions and the vehicle was taken to the dealer each time. the failure still persists and the vehicle has not been successfully repaired. the contact was concerned of the safety risk involved. the failure mileage was 10,900 and current mileage was 12,000.

I have a 2007 honda civic si coupe. this is not my first manual vehicle. i have had trouble shifting into 3rd but did not think anything of it. just four days ago my car would not shift at all. i had it towed to the honda dealership and was told that my clutch in a year old car was burned out. they claim that it was not a manufacturers defect so in other words, it is my fault. upon doing research i see that many others are or have experienced the same problem. i have also learned that this past april honda issued a recall on vehicles having 3rd gear problems but have not notified all owners of the makes and models covered in the recall. the 3rd gear problem is directly related to the clutch burning out. i am receiving no satisfaction from the dealership and honda is not owning up to admit that indeed there is a defect. *tr

Problem: unable to shift from park into drive - civic hybrid 2007 research shows problem was known and posted in september 2007 purchased car new in january 2008 w defect and was not informed. this defect was modified and posted again as a known issue on 3/18/08 brought car in for service (oil change) in april 2007. no mention of recall and since car was purchased after known problem, it did not occur that the car would be sold w/o issue being fixed. june 8, 2008 - car locks in park several times. break light comes on. i check manual that says to not drive/have car towed. i drive directly to the safest location to park and call for a tow truck. i have missed a scheduled seminar/day of work. i should have been informed of this recall during purchase and service. since this was a known issue, why was this not fixed prior to sale? why was i not notified? why was this not caught at my service? the car was towed to the dealership on 6/8/08 - was called on 6/9/08 and told about the recall and that the car was fixed. i asked them to check the brakes again as they seem to have air and make noise. i was told this was not part of the recall. i said i was not even informed of a recall and that i have issues w the brakes and i want them checked even though they fixed the recall problem. it was a lot of back and forth and the car is currently with the dealer and i have spoken to the manager who acknowledged that the issue should of been fixed at the very least, during the maintenance check. he is having the maintenance department check the brakes a second time. *tr

3rd gear pops out for no reason. honda will not fix my problem as it is no longer under warranty. i reported the problem when was still under warranty but they could not replictae the problem. now they claim is too late for them to fix it. i did not find out about the service bulleting until recently. after being a loyal customer with more than 2 honda vehicles i will never buy a honda again especially when the us manufacturers are now making reliable and gas efficient cars. *tr
